Used to enjoy this restaurant every time we came. Last time was not a good experience. We decided to give them a second chance and was extremely disappointed. We were sat outside and forgotten about. Asked for orange juice and was never told that they were out. Food came spread out over 15 minutes of time. Eggs Benedict was over cooked and slapped on the plate, very sloppy. The 6 year old at our table was the LAST person to receive his food. Never received multiple sides that were ordered, like cheese grits and hash browns. Our waitress was obviously busy, but we have had her in the past and she does her job poorly. No toilet paper in the restroom. Waited for the check for 25 minutes and finally got up to take care of it ourselves. We specifically said two separate checks and was given one at the end. I took care of the bill and realized we were overcharged for the sides and drinks that we did not receive. When I tried to explain this to our server she could not understand me, so we then waited for the manager for another 20 minutes. Needless to say nothing on the bill was fixed and was given no compensation. We sat down at 10:40 and did not leave until 12:30. This is an in and out restaurant and this was ridiculous. Will NOT be returning and do NOT recommend this restaurant. read more

Had a short wait to get seated but once the food was ordered it was quick. Everything was very good. The waffles aren't as thick as other places but it was still very good. The only thing I wouldn't recommend out of what we tried would be the ice tea. Will definitely return in the future when I'm out that way again. read more

Best eggs Benedict and mimosas! Some days are better than others but it's most definitely a step up from IHOP, and I've very rarely gotten something I don't like. My favorite time to go in is for breakfast or lunch, after 12 they tend to run out of ingredients on busy days. I don't understand some of the petty comments, this place is great! Try it. Now. Go. Also dear lovely customers, if your waitress does not notice you... you can try that thing called SPEAKING UP GETTING OFF YOUR BUTT AND TELLING A SERVER WHERE YOURE SEATED, instead of writing some stupid review about "oh my god I'm so entitled and wrote a review instead of just telling my waitress I'm here" which I understand is their job to notice you, but this is a busy breakfast place and mistakes do get made. My friends and I was in Hammond for a week long training and stayed at a nearby motel. We decided to try Yellow Bird Cafe for lunch as the reviews appear to be great. The menu consists of your typical American cafe items such as breakfast, soup, salad, sandwiches, and burgers. I ordered the crawfish Po'boy which came with waffle fries and battered crawfish in the Po'boy sandwich. The waffle fries tasted fishy like it was fried in the same oil. The crawfish was not bad, but somewhat uninspired. I ate a small portion of the Po'boy before lifting the bread to dress it up with hotsauce and was shocked to discover a long hair fused into a chunk of the battered crawfish. This was no accident after the frying process, it poked out of the crawfish like sprouted hair from a pore. I immediately notified the waitress who seemed unconcerned about this and took it back to the kitchen. I told her I had already loss my appetite due to the disgusting discovery and didn't have time for another item as my limited lunch break time would not permit it. When the bill came, they had the nerve to cross out the original price and charge me half price. First of all, I didn't eat half of the meal, so half price is ridiculous. It was 2 bites of the sandwich, and a piece of waffle fries. 2nd, they served me food with hair in it which is disgusting and an FDA food prep violation. Lets not even talk about ruining my lunch break and going hungry. I asked for the manager and the manager initially attempted to justify half price. I explained what I discovered and expressed my disgust which the manager obviously couldn't rebut. I shouldn't even have to dispute the charges in the first place! At the end I didn't pay, but I also didn't get any standard apology. read more

My Bloody Mary was garnished with a pickle... A dill pickle slice from a jar. No spice at all, it actually had a sweet aftertaste and was perhaps the worst Bloody Mary I have ever tasted. My sausage and mushroom omelette was mediocre at best. The sausage was food-service frozen sausage that was warmed up and sliced. The potatoes were bland and did not taste freshly made. The service was only average. I'm guessing that the only reason this place stays open is because there are so few other breakfast options in Hammond. Have eaten here a few times before and although I knew service wasn't that great decided to try them again today since the food was at least good. Walked in and they were busy but no one other than us was waiting for a table. After waiting a few minutes and seeing the usual chaos in the way this business is run, one of the waitresses told us we could be seated. We waited at least 10 minutes without so much as an acknowledgement that someone would be waiting on us. During that time we noticed the owner pointing toward our table and fussing at the waitress who told us to have a seat. After a few more minutes I asked that same waitress if someone would be waiting on us. She pointed to another waitress who was cleaning a table. After a couple more minutes our waitress finally came to the table and asked if we needed menus. We said yes and ordered coffee which was cold when we got it and we had to ask for a refill. We ordered and got our food which wasn't bad. Our waitress didn't come back to our table once after we got our food except to bring the bill. This was by far the worst experience we have had there and we will not be back. It's a shame that a restaurant serves good food, but can't provide even decent service. They received an award for best breakfast. I can only assume those who voted for them only took the food into consideration. read more

Quite possibly the best breakfast in Hammond. The menu tends to lean Mexican, which is a good thing, if you like breakfast burritos, chorizo, salsa, etc. All amazing! The pancakes looked awesome, too. Our server was new, and had a couple hiccups, but I can overlook that as long as I know he's trying. This is one of my favourite places for breakfast. The Benedict Florentine is my go to, the orange juice is magical. The service is always lovely even when it is slow, which I have encountered only infrequently. Additionally, I deeply appreciate that the menu isn't overwhelming. Update!! Update !! Oct. 9, 2017 I have only eaten there for breakfast. So , I'm not sure about lunch. However, The service use to be absolutely Great when the older Lady (owner ? ) was there. Now , The younger waitresses are to busy on their cell phones texting or listening to something with the earplugs on to pay attention to the service or taking your order. And no , there were only 2 other people at a table , not busy At all. What a shame !! It has great breakfast food. We have been there lots of times since the other Lady has gone. As a South Texas girl raised on a combination of family Tex-Mex restaurants and real Mexican food from the neighbors, I generally distrust Mexican food so far from the border. So I ordered the Granola Almond pancakes. The rest of the family didn't know the "no Mexican this far from the border" so they ordered Migas, Mollettas, and Two to Tango. We ate everything; we offered and accepted bites from one another, and we all were very very satisfied. The refried black beans were more Cuban than Mexican, as was the Two to Tango, but everything was amazing! Our waiter kept our drinks full and checked on us without hovering; he was friendly without telling us his life story. We make the Texas to Florida trek every year or so; this place makes our "required stop" list (along with The Best Stop in Scott for boudin.) read more

This must be a local favorite however, the management is missing the mark. The place was very busy with no hostess or cashier. I saw numerous people having to wait to check out and wait to be seated. My food came out and was good. My wife's toast was cold and stale. We had to ask three different servers to replace the toast and by then her breakfast was cold. We also had to wait for refills on our coffee. We enjoy eating breakfast together and I was finished before they finally brought it the toast.
