Yellow cab is terrible! We called for a cab and they stated 5-10 minutes as the wait time. 12 minutes later we call back, they say 5-10 more minutes. 15 minutes later, we get a call saying our driver should be there in 2 minutes. 10 minutes later they still hadn't shown up. We dealt with their customer service line multiple times and it was always the same story. After 40 minutes of waiting, we paid the 2.5x surcharge with FARE and got picked up within 5 minutes. read more

It's to bad that people need them because they are awful and irresponsible! I had a gig I needed to get to by 11pm. I scheduled online at 5pm to pick me at 8:45. When i called them at 8:30pm to confirm, they told me that they have up to an hour to pick me up and that there are no guarantees, and that my neighborhood is busy. I waited till 9:45 and there was no show. I called them and they basically said to me that they are sending my order out right now - I said to them "Are you telling me that no cab took my order and that no cab was coming" and they said "that is right but I am in the top priority" ...I then told them that I am going to have to get another cab so I can get to the gig, then they had the nerve to ask me to call them to cancel if I get another cab! I said "what I am calling to cancel? You haven't even put my order in!" if you can, please dont use them at all. You wont get to where you are going and they dont care. Your best bet is to go out on the street and if you happen to find a cab, great. read more

I'd certainly use them again! I needed a ride to pick up my car from the mechanic. There was no hold time when I called and they literally had the cab in front of my place 3 minutes after I called. That was amazing! The only downside was the cab had a strong smoke smell (which I guess most cabs do.) It's the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5. Oh, and they accepted my credit card without a problem, but I did tell dispatch when I called that this was how I wanted to pay. read more

I never waited longer than 20 minutes for a cab to arrive, and while I didn't call during a lot of peak hours, all but 1 of the 5 drivers I had were friendly and would strike up conversation if I wanted to. read more

Cabs are really expensive in Austin. It was about $25 to get from Riverside & I-35 to the Airport. That being said the driver was a nice guy and used to live in my hometown about 25 years before I was born so he had a good story or two. If you need a ride to an airport you could do worse. read more

While the reliability has improved somewhat, the drivers do not actually read any of the notes so if you live in an apartment complex, they will never try to find you. Austin should have more competition because this company sucks severely. read more

OK experience most of the time we used them, but the there was douche cab driver #359. We split a cab from hotel to conference center and he tried charging each of us a separate fare. We refused to pay more than one fare, he then became threatening and started following one of the chicks in our group trying to get money out of her. Total douche. read more

I use Yellow cab on a regular basis to go downtown. They have become unreliable lately. Last night I ordered a cab 35 minutes in advance of needing it and was told it would be there in 20 minutes. 20 minutes went by and I called back, to which they said "they haven't found one yet". You are in the cab business and I live 2 blocks from South Congress which is flooded with cabs. She said they would find one and it would be another 20 minutes. At this point I waited another 20 minutes, called back 3 times and no cab. I had to drive as I was already late. Upon getting to South Congress at the light there was 3 available cabs (lights on) sitting on the corner. I will not use them again. There service is horrible. read more

Yellow Cab has a new automated system. My husband called 1-18-2019 an hour before his appointment and booked a cab through this system. He is a double amputee and needs a handicapped cab. This was booked through the new automated system. After the appointment time passed and after the third time he spoke to someone at Yellow Cab he was told he needed to speak to someone to book a handicapped cab. Why does the automated system offer the option if it does not work? Appointment was at 11 am and it is now 11:45 am. Terrible customer service for the handicapped. Have to give one star. I called Yellow cab at 5:25 pm to request a pick up at 730 pm. Trying to plan ahead and be on time for my event... They told me they cannot schedule pick ups, for whatever reason, and that I would have to call back at 715 to request a cab. I do not have time to stop what I'm doing and remember to call at 715, that's why I'm calling in early! at 1020 pm 5/19/14 I was at the corner of Chavez and Congress. I flagged a cab, and cab # 117 stopped, but instead of letting me in the cab, he rolled down the window and started playing 20 questions about where i was going, etc. basically (seen this enough times over the years) he was not willing to take a trip unless it was long enough for his liking. read more

For once....the dispatcher I spoke to was nice. However, I'm at 1.5 hours and waiting for a cab that they promised in 20 minutes or less? This company complains that there are too many cabs in Austin already, yet they can't provide a feasible service? Monopolies are bad for just this reason. If they had legitimate competition, we wouldn't have to deal with such poor levels of service. This is the WORST service I've seen in any major city in the US. In fact, this is the worst cab service I've seen in any city between the US and Europe. I couldn't speak the language in most countries I visited, yet I was able to get a taxi. This company will ride whatever deal it has with the City of Austin to death, and won't provide anything better than the status quo until it's forced to. In summary, this is why RideShare and other services should stay legal here, because then at the very least there's an alternative (you know, one that works) to these guys. read more

I called the night before to schedule a pick up, I scheduled the pick up like an hour and a half before I had to be at work and they STILL were late. This is the 2nd time they've done me like this. They decide to show up the time I have to be at work. Really unexceptable, then the dispatchers are rude, except for maybe a few. They say "wait times are not gaurenteed", but for me to call a WHOLE night before and not receive appropriate service is very unexceptable and represents poor customer service. read more

Horrible service, consistently. Most recently, I tried to use the app at 5am for a ride to the airport - it didn't work. I then called and was on hold for over 15 minutes with no response ever. I finally had a hotel send a lonestar taxi over to my house as I was getting close to missing my flight. I also sent a comment to yellow cab via the website, and did not receive a response in 2 weeks. Not acceptable. 1/2/13 update to address Chris' comment: the date referenced above was Thursday December 20th at 5am, not over the New Years holidays. I had no trouble with lonestar cab, and the W hotel said there was a queue of cabs out front of their hotel - so this was not a lack of cabs but a lack of answering the phone or having a functioning app. Further, as stated, I first sent in the complaint to yellow cab directly, but received no response until posted this yelp review nearly two weeks later. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst cab company in Austin. They have simply "cancelled" my cabs three times in a row. I had dinner reservations downtown on a Sunday night and called for two cabs 5 hours in advance and neither of the cabs came. When I called yellow cab I was confronted with the worst customer service and got hung up on 4 times. I then called Lone Star Cabs and there was a cab at my apartment in 15 minutes. Bottom line, don't rely on this cab company even if you book hours in advance. Also, they push their new HailACab app but that doesn't work either. Booked on their last time in hopes of actually getting a cab, and about 30 minutes after the cab was suppose to show up the app told me that my cab was not coming. read more

Never in my life have I called a cab service and been told that my requested pick up time, in this case to the airport from my house for a 6am flight, could not be guaranteed. The booking agent told me that "called in pickup times cannot be guaranteed and the cab could possibly arrive early or late of the requested pick up time. I asked how late as I needed to catch a flight and that time is of the essence and was told that it was "impossible to tell me how late the cab could be". I explained to her the whole point of booking a cab is to get on time pick up service as that is what cabs do. She told me "that is the company policy". Take it or leave it. So I told her to forget it. I called Austin Cab Company instead and booked through them. They told me 4:30am sharp...no problem. As it should be! read more

Awful!!! I booked a pick up at 4pm and 25 minutes later I called to check on status and they told to wait the car was on its way. Called after another 20 minutes , same answer. Another 30 minutes later told they had no idea how long it would be and they don't have cab available. Finally they never showed up!!!! I made the mistake of getting into the cab without an assortment of small bills (because the driver will always claim to not have change as of course this one did) and made the additional mistake of paying with a credit card. I signed a receipt for the actual price and of course the driver then overcharged my credit card. As most Yellow Cabs are, the car was dirty and I had to give the driver directions to the well known location we were going to. read more

I called Yellow Cab to pick up a client from my office. The driver went to the wrong address first and then swept through our parking lot without stopping and left without the client! I was embarrassed and mortified, and worse yet -- when I called back to complain (and get another cab) they hung up on me! An insanely terrible experience - avoid Yellow Cab at all costs!! read more

I called a cab a 8:08 and while waiting I called 3 times, at the 3rd time (8:40) the woman mentioned it was held up cause I needed a van for a bike. I didn't need a van or request one, how ever it was in the notes from a previous time I called a cab. I like that you keep notes but if you could verify with the customer what your seeing in the notes and what Im asking for currently on the phone that would be great, I never mentioned I needed a van. I had to be some where before 9. Will not be using your service again and strongly suggest others to spell out what your requesting! read more

This is the worst cab company in Austin. You may see a lot of yellow cabs around, which is why I called because I figured being that I live in the middle of central downtown I could get a (relatively) quick cab. I take cabs a lot, not just here in Austin but in other cities as well. I called Yellow, and I was quoted thirty minutes or more, reasonable as its a Saturday night. 1 hour later, I give them a call, where is my cab? "Maybe 15 minutes more, I'm not sure." Okay. I wait 15 minutes, and nothing. After a full 2 hours!!! ******* of waiting, I decided to cancel my cab, as my night was pretty much ruined by the stress of waiting on this stupid cab company to show up. DO NOT order yellow cab, unless you're simply hailing them down, and if you DO, DON'T TIP AND BE A JERK!!!!!!!! I've lived in Austin my whole life, use another company. I wish I could give them 0 stars. Their phone reps are complete retards, too... When I called to cancel, after my two hour wait, I was told (in broken english) "Well, I sorry sir, it just is busy night OK?" 2 hours later, even on a busy night, my cab should have been here. My daughter's car battery was dead this morning. At 7 a.m. we started calling all the other highly rated cab companies in Austin. They either wanted us to leave messages, or told us they only went to the airport. In desperation we called Yellow Cab. They were at her door in 15 minutes, a friendly and polite driver got her to work in plenty of time with no fuss. The rate was very reasonable. Don't know what all the low ratings are about, but this was an excellent customer experience. read more

Be very careful when requesting a cab. They will frequently send a 10/10, which is a minimum $10.00 charge. Today I called and requested a regular cab, clearly specifying that I did not want a 10/10, as I was only going a little over a mile. (I had my 5 year old grand daughter with me, or I would have walked). After waiting over 30 min., they sent a 10/10, which I refused. This is the third time this has happened. I encountered an older lady with little English languishing in the heat and offered to call a cab for her. After being on hold for 15 minutes, the operator refused to send a cab to the #7 bus stop at the corner of San Jacinto and Dean Keeton, and couldn't send one to JP's Java either; he insisted he needed an exact street address. I asked him to hold on a second while I ran to JP's to get the address, and he told me they were extremely busy and hung up on me, against my protests. It is unbelievable to me that this company is "too busy" to hold on ten seconds in the interest of getting a cab for an older woman who is clearly suffering in the 5 p.m. heat. hello, intrepid web surfer! did you ever find yourself on a certain austin yellow cab site and thought that you were impressed that they gave you quotes on what the cab fare would be when you put in the addresses? and you thought, "hey someone gets the new webconomy! I'm going to put them down as the only austin cab company in my phone to use in a pinch?" well, this would be certain folly and you should seek alternatives. I called the dispatcher and was impressed that I could additionally tell them the bar I was at, besides the cross streets (this was not downtown). They took down my name and said that someone would call me when the cab was close. Sounds great, right? No one called me. And, some other a$$holes ran out into the street and grabbed the cab when it showed up. I suspected something was up, and called back. They remembered me and I explained that I wasn't sure if someone else also called a cab to the same location. The dispatcher offered to send another cab and basically implicitly admitted that someone else took the cab that I called and didn't actually try to call me or verify that the people entering the cab were not, in fact, me. Eventually, another cab shows up, or rather, I see the cab driving down the road and it passes me by about 100 yards and I figured, by now, that I had to run after them just like every other cab company. I didn't receive a call but(!) the cab driver did ask my name(!!! what happened with the first cab?!?) I saw a $2.76 charge already on the meter and he sort of went down this back road which ran kinda parallel to the mopac. The fare at the end was about $2.76 more than what the estimate on their website was. so what the $h!t is this? Either the dispatcher doesn't have any authority over the cab drivers or the owner threw some money at a website that purports to be something else. Maybe it's time to do some soul-searching about your line of business, pal - you aren't modern at all. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Called at 12:30pm on Wednesday to schedule a van for 2pm to take family to airport. I told the person who answered that it was four adults going to the airport with a lot of luggage and requested a van. I had to go to work by my family called at 2:30 and told me the cab never showed. After numerous calls (including other cab companies who wouldn't come b/c we'd already called Yellow), a cab finally showed up at 3pm for a 4pm flight. Thankfully, I live fairly close to the airport. The cabbie said no drivers want to come to my n'hood bc they get stiffed. It's east Austin with tons of growth and new construction/new ppl. Either revise your views or tell me in advance and ask for a credit card to hold the cab. Fortunately, my family made their flight -- barely -- but I will NEVER use Yellow Cab again. read more
