Carlos and John, the hosts, are so friendly and helpful. We stayed in the "Pink Room". I wish I could live in it! So roomy and inviting. We spent a lot of time there since it was 122 outside. That and in the amazing pool. They provide a cocktail and appetizer in the evening (Carlos even served to us while we relaxed in the pool) and a tasty breakfast at a time you can choose. I was a little scared when I read that most of the recent reviews were negative. I was thinking "oh no! What did I get us into." This place is a blast from the past. The decor is that of a mid century modern and is a really cozy quadrangle set up. The interior feels homey and the property is set up like an air bnb with shared amenities. They play 1950s music all day on speakers throughout the complex, it creates that vintage feel but can get repetitive after a few days. Lounge with tables, board games, travel brochures, couches, fire place, coffee and tea, and industrial kitchen for use during your stay. (Old reviews mention happy hour, breakfast, snacks, etc. these are no longer offered but why not just bring your own?) Each room has microwave and mini fridge. Outdoor gas fire pit for use. The pool is small but has a deep end 8ft which is nice. There are pool noodles and some tubes to use. The hot tub is spacious and powerful jets. We stayed in the Hawaiian surf room, loved the theme it was so cute and felt like a tropical getaway. The shower is small but functional. Good AC unit with a remote control and ceiling fan. Surfboard coffee table and wicker love seat add to the tropical feel. Overall this was a nice private getaway. You can be left alone to relax! If you need anything you can text the hotel and someone replies super quick in my experience. The hotel feels very secure with codes needed to enter the complex and security cameras at the entrance and surrounding the complex. (Probably for management to check and make sure everything is running smoothly). I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I have stayed at a few different boutique hotels in the area. This would be a top choice! Please realize this is an older complex and it does show some wear and tear but come on the building is probably 100 years old or somewhere close to that. If you are expecting a sterile, high end, resort feel for your stay this is not your place... but otherwise this is a great choice! I couldn't help but feel bad for the owners with all of the really bad reviews on here because that was truly not my experience. I had picked an RV site but it was scratched out and replaced with another site number. it was two sites away so I didn't mention it. My site was next to a permanent resident fifth wheel in horrible condition. Little did I know it was one of the better permanent RVs there. When you see all the "rules" for campers there you assume this is a nice place. I think they even wanted to know the year of our RV, like they have standards. HA! Went on a walk around and there were junky RVs everywhere that are old, broken RVs surrounded by hoards and hanging laundry (NOT allowed! LOL) Seeing all the permanent septic hoses on the ground and with the "p trap" dip showing they are open 24-7 was awful. Speaking of laundry, after a week in Mexico we had two loads to run. Our friends had one. Luckily there were three working - because only about 30% of the washing machines/dryers were actually functioning. They only had coin operated washers and no change machine. The pool area was older but clean and nice. The pool was cold! There is a separate, covered area with four hot pools of various temperatures. These were well used and I should point out there can be children present - just pointing this out as it can be less then relaxing to have a child playing with dolls in the spa with you. Unfortunately the sauna was not working when I was there. It had some very pretty grounds around the pool for games and barbecue. Nice pond with turtles, too. When we went to leave, we tried to hook up to empty the grey and black tanks. Our septic hook up was modified for a smaller hose size and there was no way for us to be able to use it. Very frustrating and we didn't want find an alternate there since it was quite early in the morning. The guy banging on metal and running equipment behind us hadn't even showed up to make noise yet that morning. After we left we reached out to the management via email and it has been over a week with NO response. We had asked for a partial refund due to the issues mentioned. With no reply, I feel compelled to warn others, since you will have no recourse once they get your money apparently. While we enjoyed the pool for a couple hours and felt like I was pretty safe there, the amenities and services were otherwise lacking and not worth, in my opinion, what we paid. It felt very, "bait and switch." The location was ok for decompressing from our Mexico trip, but next time we will go back the way we came (a hidden gem by Salton Sea)

As tiki enthusiasts, we definitely chose Caliente Tropics for the tiki aesthetic and the Reef and we were so happy with the choice. They have a huge sparkling pool that somehow stays at the perfect temp and a jacuzzi; perfect for the evenings. All of the staff here were super nice and kind. We loved it so much we even decided to stay an extra night. The room we got was a little dated, but it was clean and comfortable for us. The best part is the gigantic and powerful A/C unit. The room stayed nice and cool for us. Totally great. Oooh can't forget the super deep tub as well. I took a bath every day. Loved my time over at Caliente Tropics! Definitely not the fanciest, but great customer service, GREAT POOL, a surprisingly large property and made for the perfect backdrop of our Palm Springs adventure.

It was a nice and spacious room. It was like a little one-bedroom apartment. The living room featured a couch and a really comfy chair. End tables were on either side of the couch with a coffee table in front. A 3-drawer dresser and a desk were on the opposite wall with a TV mounted on the wall. A cabinet next to the bathroom held the safe, coffee maker and mini fridge. The bedroom was quite large also. A king bed with night stands on both sides. A good-sized closet with no doors. A small dresser and a TV mounted on the wall. Both rooms had their own A/C units that were ice cold. The bathroom was dated but had been upgraded. The shower was nice with newer tile. We did, however, have to memorize the sweet spot to position the faucet for maximum hot water. The toilet constantly ran. A single sink with a huge countertop was adjacent to the toilet/shower room. The pool area is where it's at when you're staying at Caliente! A huge pool surrounded by plenty of loungers and tables with umbrellas. A good-sized hot tub too. Steps away is the Reef Bar and Grill with an entry from the pool area. We'd absolutely stay at Caliente Tropics again. In fact, I'm almost certain we will next year, if not sooner.

There are two pools at this site. We liked the one by the upper clubhouse - wide open with beautiful views of the mountains. The pool is warm and the hot tub is warmer. Both are spacious and clean. The bathrooms at both clubhouses are updated and clean as well. Considering it is peak season, we found the nightly rate of $60 to be extremely reasonable. Rates are lower for weekly stays. We also took advantage of their pickleball courts. They offered lessons on the first morning, and the instructors were absolutely fabulous - both patient and fun. We had a wonderful time.

There was extra linings , 2 pillows , and one blanket. But I did bring extra blankets. There are family pools / jacuzzis , gym, common area with grills and fire pits, tennis court , and a basket ball court. I did appreciate that it was pet friendly and There was a dog park at the resort as well. So there was plenty do to there.

It also perfectly describes how much they care about the people who stay here!! I'll write more about our overall experience but I want to mention the bomb that cratered our already mediocre (at best) experience... This was a terrible experience! First of all, we spent $180 to stay here and it was very disappointing! There are multiple reasons but the biggest is that at 7:00pm when we turned down the bed we found mascara on the pillow cases and PUBIC HAIR in the sheets and there is basically no human contact here. We called the "emergency" phone number and it was a message saying to state your name and reason for calling and no one picked up or called back (ever) - very frustrating!! We eventually got a text saying that the facility is unstaffed and gave us the code to the laundry room to get clean sheets - and it didn't work. We let them know it didn't work and they said they have multiple properties and gave us another number that didn't work. They eventually said an inn keeper would come and an hour later we got a text that the inn keeper had unlocked the laundry room. (didn't even stop by to offer an apology or bring us our clean sheets but instead made us rummage through the laundry room to find clean sheets & pillowcases) Again, no human contact - we had to find clean sheets AND REPLACE THEM OURSELVES! - WTF!!? We asked if there was another room we could be moved to and were basically told tough luck, they were fully booked. This was such a sh!tshow - to the level that any remotely compassionate & caring hotel would have fully refunded our money and given a very sincere, in-person apology from someone (or at the very least refunded some of it) - BUT NOT THIS PLACE!! Not even so much as an apology or "sorry that happened"...NOTHING!! After that debacle Our Room - It was very minimalistic. Concrete floors, no rugs, no pictures or anything else on the walls and minimal decoration except one plant and 2 chairs that were not the most comfortable. There are no dressers, no drawers and no counter space to put your things on. There's just one small closet. They don't even have cups for water - only coffee cups. The lighting in the room is either on or off - there is no dimmable lighting. It's either hospital bright or pitch dark. (The lamps must have had 100 watt bulbs) There are very limited electrical plugs available. We had to plug in the coffee water kettle in the bathroom because as you can see, the only available plug was on the backside of the extension cord going up to the TV and the kettle cord wouldn't stretch that far. The Bathroom - Our shower had a curtain rod that caused the curtain to keep sliding open and it caused a large puddle of water to accumulate on the floor which came out into the room since the floors are cement (and are very slick when wet) With the toilet, I have had better legroom in the economy section of an airplane than the legroom from this toilet to the wall (about an inch more than 2 iPhones length - NOT KIDDING!) I mean seriously!! Look at the pics. It's ridiculously tight! And the shower head is very short - came to my forehead so I had to squat when washing my hair. Oh, and the ceilings are very thin - we heard every step from the people above (Glad they didn't stay up late!) On the upside: At least the wifi is good enough to stream Netflix. The coffee is actually really good but the only creamer they had was packets of powder coffee mate. They didn't have (or offer) liquid creamer of any kind, not even in the refrigerator in the common area. I felt like I was drinking coffee in a church basement. Pool / Jacuzzi area: The pool / jacuzzi area is pretty small and confined with lackluster furniture. Paint was peeling off the walls and there was green algae growing around the lip of the jacuzzi. There also seems to be a shortage of pool towels. This is very disappointing when the whole reason for coming to Desert Hot Springs is for the hot spring jacuzzis & pools! Overall this was an extremely, not only disappointing but outright infuriating experience! If the whole, pubic hair / mascara in the sheets debacle hadn't happen I would give this place 3 stars, but that situation was just unacceptable!! And those 3 stars are if you don't need anything, but the second you need anything from an actual human, you're on your own! I wouldn't even expect this crap quality of service (or downright mistreatment) from a $40 a night motel in the middle of Timbucktoo, much less in a resort hotspot like Desert Hot Springs. WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK to this hotel!! I'm sorry we stayed here - If you choose to stay here, don't say you haven't been warned!!

We rented the "lakeview manor" (luxury cabin) conveniently located right behind oakside restaurant. Walking distance to the village was only 3-5 minutes! When booking with Lakefront Cabins they offer a 20% discount on boat rentals through pleasure point marina. We took advantage of this great value. Lakeview Manor cabin comes with an AC/DC pin ball machine, when I went to play it, one of the flippers wasn't working so I sent a service request out to Lake front cabins and they immediately sent a technician. Within an hour it was fixed. Very much appreciated! The cabin is equipped with oversized TV's, state of the art fireplaces, and modern style finishes throughout. It's a must stay if you're planning on visiting big bear.
