Take me back to Caliente Tropics! Spent a lovely 4 days in Palm Springs and stayed here while having a wonderful time roasting in the sun. Arrived here Thursday afternoon, had a smooth check in process, dropped off our bags in the room and headed straight to the bar! As tiki enthusiasts, we definitely chose Caliente Tropics for the tiki aesthetic and the Reef and we were so happy with the choice. They have a huge sparkling pool that somehow stays at the perfect temp and a jacuzzi; perfect for the evenings. All of the staff here were super nice and kind. We loved it so much we even decided to stay an extra night. The room we got was a little dated, but it was clean and comfortable for us. The best part is the gigantic and powerful A/C unit. The room stayed nice and cool for us. Totally great. Oooh can't forget the super deep tub as well. I took a bath every day. Loved my time over at Caliente Tropics! Definitely not the fanciest, but great customer service, GREAT POOL, a surprisingly large property and made for the perfect backdrop of our Palm Springs adventure. read more

We enjoyed a great and relaxing two-night stay at the Caliente Tropics Resort in Palm Springs. We had room 217 a second story Parlor King Suite (that I totally forgot to take pictures of). It was a nice and spacious room. It was like a little one-bedroom apartment. The living room featured a couch and a really comfy chair. End tables were on either side of the couch with a coffee table in front. A 3-drawer dresser and a desk were on the opposite wall with a TV mounted on the wall. A cabinet next to the bathroom held the safe, coffee maker and mini fridge. The bedroom was quite large also. A king bed with night stands on both sides. A good-sized closet with no doors. A small dresser and a TV mounted on the wall. Both rooms had their own A/C units that were ice cold. The bathroom was dated but had been upgraded. The shower was nice with newer tile. We did, however, have to memorize the sweet spot to position the faucet for maximum hot water. The toilet constantly ran. A single sink with a huge countertop was adjacent to the toilet/shower room. The pool area is where it's at when you're staying at Caliente! A huge pool surrounded by plenty of loungers and tables with umbrellas. A good-sized hot tub too. Steps away is the Reef Bar and Grill with an entry from the pool area. We'd absolutely stay at Caliente Tropics again. In fact, I'm almost certain we will next year, if not sooner. read more

2.5 stars, Caliente Tropics is very affordable but a lot of the resort needs be updated. The rooms are spacious but a lot of the structure and furniture seems to be falling apart. I noticed the showers are old, stains on the sheets and parts of the paint are chipped off. They have a small gym with some weights and a treadmill. Overall this place gets the job done for the price. The service was good. I appreciated that parking is free and when I arrived, I was able to get early check-in and late check out. The office is closed from 7-9am and that could be a problem if you need to speak to someone during those hours. read more

This was our second year in a row staying at Caliente Tropics and we would still return despite the following: Pros: Cool tiki themed hotel Large layout for the king parlor suite Reef Tiki bar on property Sancho's Mexican restaurant on property Half mile walk to Elmer's restaurant Quick walk to Mr. Lyons Steakhouse Cons: Office was closed at 8:45am for a proper check out 15 minute wait to get towels in the lobby versus the normal honor system at the pool No bartender for the tiki drinks. Our last visit to Caliente Tropics Resort was on August 24, 2024, after catching Kings of Leon in the area and honestly, it was the perfect way to end the night. Even though we rolled in pretty late, the staff still hooked us up with one last drink each before closing, which we really appreciated. My fiancée and I first discovered this spot back in 2015, and ever since then, we make it a point to stop by whenever we're in Palm Springs. The decor is absolutely dope, the retro tiki atmosphere is unmatched, and the Elvis vibes make the whole place feel like a little time capsule in the best way possible. Palm Springs is full of hidden gems, and this is one of them. This is a throwback to Gilligans Island style Tiki atmosphere from that era, kinda like the love boat. A somewhat less expensive option than staying in walking distance to downtown, and there are some good bars and restaurants that are within walking distance of Caliente Tropics. So, okay location. Friendly staff at front desk upon check-in. The room was clean and with a fresh coat of paint and nice sheets, with a dorm fridge. The hot and cold faucets in the sink were oddly reversed, and the room was uncomfortably musty. The Reef Bar was a dud--bartenders too busy making drinks for the pool, and the place was a bit dark. Like the hotel, it just seemed a bit tired. While other older motels seem to pull off bright new updates, this one just seems to be at most halfway there. read more

I wouldn't put my meth head cousin up in this dump. Even though that's likely who was in this room before us. That or the next Jeffrey Dahmer. Before I even get to the urine stained comforter on the bed...the room was literally attached to the hotel break room. There was no key card lock, just a flimsy little knob lock. Not sketchy at all, you know? The room itself had not been cleaned in any way. View the photos at your own discretion - I've seen less offensive rooms at a brothel. You decide which was the worst offense: the cream colored stains on the couch, large urine stain on the comforter, a dead cockroach on the completely unswept floor, or the solid skid mark in the toilet. Perhaps it was modernist hotel art considering this was modernism week in Palm Springs. When we alerted the staff to the crime scene we walked into, their response was bringing us clean linens and telling us we had to change them ourselves because they were too busy. I can't imagine busy with what because they definitely weren't busy checking anyone into the empty lobby or cleaning the rooms. I wouldn't stay here if I were homeless. Book anywhere else. Even the motel 6 down the street would have been a better option. We ended up crashing at a friend's place because there wasn't a chance I was putting my pretty little head down in this room. At first glance the hotel looked promising for the area and vibe. The rooms were a bit outdated but reasonable for the price. Me and my partner were just here for Memorial Day weekend but the two main issues were that there weren't much staff outside in the pool after a certain hour. There were two people having s*x in the hot tube around 8pm when we were there. My partner also got foot fungus shortly after visiting this hotel from using their facilities/bathroom in the hotel room. Honestly don't think we will be staying here again but the tiki vibe was nice. read more

When I first enter a room, I make sure to check the locks. Of course, the very first thing I noticed was the strike plate on the door frame. It was completely unsecured, hanging on hollow screws, and the wood behind it was damaged. This was a major safety issue. The lock was essentially useless because if you pulled on the door with force while locked, it would break off. I took photos immediately and went straight to the front desk to report it. To their credit, the staff responded right away and offered me another room on the spot. It was technically an upgrade from a king to a two-queen room. However, the new room was absolutely filthy. There was leftover food/snack behind the lamp, excessive hair and dust built up on the bed frame, an old acrylic nail left on the furniture, and the toilet was leaking. It was clear this room had not been cleaned properly. I should have looked at reviews on Yelp first before booking. But again, those Expedia photos wowed me. They made the place look modern and clean. That was not the case at all. I had originally planned to check out on Sunday, June 29. Instead, I left early around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night. I felt so uncomfortable and disgusted that I could not stay another night. I believe the man at the front even asked me if everything was okay. I told him, "I just cannot be in that room. It is just gross." I would have expected follow up questions to see what could have been done, but, no. What I experienced was neglect, both in terms of safety and hygiene. We visit Palm Springs 3 or 4 times a school year and we stayed at this hotel the last few times, We always come with a group of friends from LA. This time there were 10 of us in 5 rooms. The rooms have always been kind of ragged but this time our room bordered on unacceptable. The carpet was filthy, almost no water came out of the sink, and it was impossible to regulate the water temperature in the shower. At the end of our three day stay we decided to stay another day. The young woman at the desk quoted us a higher price despite the fact that it was mid week and the hotel was practically empty but we said ok. We came back at 3 pm and the same very unpleasant woman said that no rooms were ready. I pointed out that the staff had been cleaning since that morning and that there were about 5 cars in the parking lot. She became extremely defensive and told me that if I didn't leave, she would call the police. We went next door to the Motel 6 and got a clean, functional room for less than half. This is my go to hotel to stay in Palm Springs during summer months because of the pool. It is always clean and not too crowded there is also The Reef Tiki bar which I love and they sometimes offer pool service, it depends if they are slow inside then the server will come out. Front desk agents are very friendly, Edna was there last time and she was very helpful a time before she also helped us with some lost and found items, she is great! The rooms are nice, 70s tiki vibe throughout. We usually stay in the parlor suite which has a little yard with bamboo and tiki lights, it super cute and nice to have and relax in the evenings. Keep in mind this is an older hotel the A/C is loud but it works great and bathrooms are outdated but it has everything you need. The location is great, walking distance to Kings Highway for breakfast and the Amigo Bar for drinks as well as Mr. Lyon's for an amazing dinner. On property like I mentioned there's the Reef for food and GREAT drinks (great happy hour menu) and Sanchos Mexican restaurant. If you stay here you don't have to drive anywhere and can have a relaxing weekend. Give it a try if you have never been! read more

I'm surprised Caliente Tropics has 3 stars - I've stayed in many hotels over the years and for the standard historic roadside hotel / motel it's retained that wonderful history - and with great helpful staff and service. But beyond experiencing the tikivibe and having two restaurants and tiki bars to choose next to the pool, the staff were very helpful and the housekeeping is the best I have seen in a while. I didn't say anything since this hotel stay was my birthday gift. My recent stay at this historic Palm Springs hotel, a place I've long considered my go-to, was unfortunately a disappointment. While the room was a generous size with a huge closet, it was uncomfortably hot and smelled dusty upon arrival. It took a full 24 hours of running the A/C non-stop to cool the room to a comfortable temperature. ​The shower was another low point. As someone who is 5'3", I had to crouch just to wash my hair. There were also noticeable signs of neglect, including peeling paint and a springy, dirty base for the bed. While I appreciate the history and character of the building, a lack of upkeep is becoming apparent, which is concerning with so many well-maintained boutique hotels emerging in the area. The hotel front desk staff was kind and helpful regarding replacing towels. Another positive was seeing clean grounds, pool and outside trash bins. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde case this 2nd time around I came back to stay. *there were these 4 weird holes right above the mini fridge that just seemed outta place. *interesting odor when I first walked in so I just opened the bathroom window a bit to air it out. *there was a huge crack in the popcorn ceiling above my bed. *hair dryer was halfway ripped off the wall mount. *not even a half of TP on the roller. *the carpet was coming undone near the base boards. *there was loose tile where the carpet and tile meet in the bathroom and it cut me by the toe nail on it. *the wall paper was coming undone in certain areas. *there was no hot water *the turn knob of the shower was pretty much a tetanus shot waiting to happen. *i requested to not be by any stairs as I am a light sleeper & I was put directly in front of the stairs. read more

How could I not love a tiki-themed motel with an actual tiki bar next to the large warm pool with tropical music and moai? It feels like a mini vacation to Hawaii. This is my go-to Palm Springs hotel. Rates are low (relative to other nearby places); the rooms are old but clean and smell good. The "Suite" rooms have a couch and sitting area, which is nice for an extended stay. It's off the PS strip - so you may have to drive to shop or dine. I haven't tried the restaurant - hours have been inconvenient for me - but the bar is great (could use a bit more food variety. Desserts?). There are plenty of other nearby places to eat as well. read more

We stopped by the Caliente Tropics Resort to go the Reef Bar for a Tiki drink. All I can say there was two to three tables in the bar and the service was horrible. It took close to 10 min for a server to come to our table and about 30 min to get two drinks. Unbelievable. When the drinks were done they were made incorrectly (on ice vs blended) but we did not want to wait to have them corrected. Why is it so difficult and not a concern to deliver BASIC customer service. WOULD NOT Recommend. read more

Cozy hotel with tiki ambience. Relaxing vibes by the pool and every room has a pool view. The bar serves up traditional rum drinks. Ordered a piña colada made with tequila and it was out of this world incredible! Plenty of seating around the pool but do come early in case the hotel is sold out. read more

I booked this hotel because they offered a heated pool, I was there 4/3 to 4/5/26, the 2 days I was there the pool was super cold, there were a couple of adults including my self we tried to get in and enjoy the pool, we all got out pretty quickly because it was unbearably COLD!, I was told by the receptionist the mechanic was called to repair it on Saturday 4/4/25, we checked it all day that Saturday, pool never got warm, I also was not happy with the room, the carpet was horrible, as soon as we walked in there was a huge stain like a throw up stain, you can tell it wasn't cleaned very well, all though out the carpet you can see stains everywhere, there were loose tiles in the bathroom, we also had a hard time turning on the shower, this trip was my birthday celebration with my girls, it was very disappointing especially for the price I paid, in that case we should've stayed at the Travelodge hotel down the street for less money and just as horrible!!!! read more

The staff were very friendly and helpful! The hotel is a bit dated regarding the furniture but makes up in accessibility. There is a restaurant next door and some within walking distance which is convenient. We're in town for Indian wells so hotels are expensive in general. For the price in the location I would stay again if going back for an event in Palm Springs. read more

We enjoyed our stay, but had a very different check-in experience than the young men in front of us who were treated like kings and provided so much information. We were basically given our keys and that was it. Might have been because we reserved through Priceline, but we tried to book directly, but no rooms were available. The website was glitching, so I called to check room availability. I was on hold 10+ minutes at a time, had to call back several times, and cumulatively wasted over 30 minutes just trying to get a simple answer. Each time, the staff abruptly said I'd be placed on a "brief hold" before putting me on hold again. The last time I called, I had to cut her off mid-sentence when she started saying she would put me on hold yet again. When I finally got through, she abruptly said no and hung up. Annoying and frustrating--under promise and over deliver. Don't tell someone they'll be on a brief hold and then leave them waiting 10+ minutes. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I made reservations in August for a visit in October (weekend of the Circa Caliente Tiki event). Reservations were made online, my credit card was charged. TWO days before the event, I called to confirm my reservations and was told that we had none, that for this specific weekend, reservations were to be made thru the event coordinator. I NEVER RECEIVED A CANCELLATION notice. Had I not called and driven there, we would've been denied our visit. I left 2 messages for the hotel manager, there was no response. I called the event coordinator, and LO and BEHOLD, they had ONE room left (which was my canceled room), at 3X the amount I originally paid. Had the hotel page noted on their website the requirements for this specific weekend, there wouldn't have been an issue. But the fact that they posted NO information, accepted my reservation and then canceled it, without any notice...absolutely, terrible coordination & poor customer service! read more

Avoid this place at all costs! The cost absolutely did not justify the experience we had for only one night. While front desk staff was friendly when we checked in that is where the positives ended. Upon entering our room we were greeted with broken pieces of furniture, hair and stains on the bed, stain on the carpet, a broken mini fridge and the shower did not have a fan as evident by what looks like mildew on the ceiling. When we brought up our concerns the following morning at check out staff completely brushed it aside and said you'll get your $50 deposit back and I'll have the maids look at it. The Bartender Adrian was absolutely adorable and attentive. My boyfriend and I walked into the tiki bar later in the evening on a Thursday. We were the only ones in there, and we got to really chat it up with Adrian behind the bar. I am a bartender as well, so we got to talk a little bit and she is so bright, cute and enthusiastic. She loves making specialty cocktails, and thinking outside the box. She plays some old movies in the bar. The bar itself is adorable and has a perfect ambience. I would come back here just to strictly see Adrian, I hope to see more of you behind the bar shining little diamond! read more

Sorry this stay was very unsatisfactory. Our bathtub was over flowing taking a shower. Something that house keeping should have noticed while cleaning. The AC filter was so dusty it wouldn't cool the large room down. The mattress was so old and beaten down you feel the springs in your back. Our room door had crack you could see light through. I dad call me the front desk and tell they sent the handy man on sight to fix the tub. It's very outdated. We came from LA was too late to find a new hotel to stay in. You shouldn't have to feel disgusted in your own room. I called hotels com to ask for a refund and they had to call the hotel and they decided because they said they fixed the problem. This review is for three separate companies within Caliente Tropics Resort. 1. The hotel/resort. Nice grounds. Fun pool area. Good music. Comfortable and safe rooms. Older resort and grounds but it has a nice ambiance and atmosphere. Very tropical. My only complaint is that my brother, sister in law, and I were talking just outside our room and a staff member confronted us about a noise complaint. We weren't even loud. I guess people go to bed super early and don't like others laughing and talking. Oh well. I'm not a complainer so I cannot relate. 2. Reef. Great bar and food. Awesome atmosphere and ambiance. Fun vibes. Drinks are delicious and food is outstanding. Their fish & chips are so good. Their Loco Moco is fabulous. Highly recommended. 3. Sancho's. Good restaurant with a fun vibe. Positives: Low cost. Lots of thoughtful perk-ups to a 1950's building that otherwise look like it's falling apart. Canaries in the lobby, very pleasant. Nice room. Negatives: No USB port in the room for my phone. The exercise room is closed until 8am so I couldn't work out before I had to leave for my conference. The exercise room's freeweights start at 50lbs and go up; I need 5- 8- 10-lb weights, I've never lifted 50. No elevator, so this 78-year-old guy had to haul suitcases etc up a flight of metal stairs. read more

I'm sure the pool is great, but I didn't swim on my stay. My only issue with this place was no wi-fi, well, they do have Wi-Fi, but being in Palm Springs it kept going down every time I tried to get online. But that's not their fault. The bad: the hotel is old as shit. The rooms are disgusting, the bathrooms are even worst. The coloring and design will take you back to the 70s. They really need a big renovation. Probably one of the oldest hotels I've ever stayed in. Thin walls. Hardwood floor, good luck staying on the bottom floor. The noise on the top floor was very loud, unless there was a rhino staying there. The good: Dog friendly! I love love love that they have a dog park and dogs are allowed in the pool area (not in the pool of course). It's just so nice to see beautiful dogs everywhere. All smaller dogs and all of them weren't aggressive. The pool was a nice perk. Plenty of chairs. The bar next to the pool was pretty good! The food was good but they don't go around the pool taking orders. You have to go there and order food and drinks and they require mask and sandals every time. We stayed here bc we attended a wedding close by and unfortunately all the other hotels were booked due to pride weekend. We probably would never stay here again. I attended an annual TIKI CALIENTE event here a few years ago. I was a guest artist for one of the room parties and sponsors. I paid my entrance fee to the festival and participated in most of the activities. on one of the last days, my friend and I were robbed / mugged in the property and had her purse, car keys, my lap top and camera stolen out of her car while she waited in the driver seat. The thief opened the passenger door, reached in and grabbed everything he could while she dozed off. We reported this to the police, the hotel management and event staff. The police took the report, but the hotel staff showed no concern or inquired if we were OK. They directed us to the event promoter, even though the incident happened on their premises. The promoter also directed us back to the hotel. I later found out that the cameras in the parking lot were not actively working. Neither party showed any concern for what had happened to us. We were stuck in Palm Springs and had to pay for a lock smith to come out and make an extra key for my friends car. Aside from my elevtronics I also lost several items I had purchased at the festival including the festival mug that came with our high priced event ticket. Why am I posting this now? Most recently a friend of mine stayed at the hotel and shared some unpleasant incidents and the same lack of concern from the night staff. Or the day staff. Their experience was not as harsh as ours, but the overall customer service seamed to suck as much as ours did. As much as I love tiki, the event promoter for TIKI CALIENTE and the CALIENTE TROPICS staff DO NOT CARE about the well being of their guests. Both the promoter and the hotel had inadequate security the night of the event. Specially for an event of that magnitude. read more

We had ( fully Pre Paid )room reservations to stay at Caliente Tropics . Despite the hotel's shabby exterior, the on-site , but separately managed , Reef Bar and Sanchos breakfast restaurant persuaded us to want to stay here . On our scheduled check in day ,I phoned to ask (on a Monday btw ) if there was any availability for an early check-in,&also mentioned the Yelp Check -in Offer that Tiki Caliente Tropics has posted? On their Yelp page ? Offering a free upgrade to a suite ? The rude desk clerk , (after trying to explain , at length , that Yelp was a "third party booking app" ? LoLs ? ) rather snappily gave us a long list of "extra charges " for early check in ($50 extra between this time and that time $30 extra for slightly later times and some other extensively worded jargon about needing a manager to "approve" the "room change ". This could only be done AFTER we were already there in front of them to "prove " the check in offer on your "third party reservation "(Third party booking seemed to be a big personal insult &issue for this desk clerk ?) "We will Need to see your app , your phone , your original reservation on "whatever app it was that you used " etc etc etc ..... to which I responded (and I quote) "just a little feedback .... That long list of "extra charges"& unwelcoming tone certainly is not at all hospitable sounding "... to which the receptionist responded tartly "finE .... The reservation is canceled... go thru your third party booking agent to get a refund" HOW UNBELIEVABLE AND RUDE ! I was Completely sideswiped , and aghast ! I literally begged that I did Not want to cancel. I in calm tones , apologized that I had upset her , and could I please just speak to a manager.... ? Since we two Are clearly misunderstanding each other & apparently need management approval? She REFUSED! "You don't need a manager because you don't have a reservation" was her young -person "flex", disguised as a reasonable resolution? Therefore, all I know for certain is that the receptionist's "final decision" was made by & enforced solely by the female desk clerk ,that was working on the morning of (1/16/23) . . .... I don't know if Alicia theGeneral mgr appoints such power to the desk clerk to "happily refund " on her whim alone ? Was the "full refund" questionable to Jose , the hotel manager? He took over TWO WEEKS TO REFUND US !? Since the desk clerk was , in her own extensive explanation, "non -management" it seemed of concern that she would not be "authorized "to process our refund ? .... ( A legit customer service concern), considering her pronouncements of "not being allowed" to approve any room upgrade ahead of time or without "management" Andrew S ? in customer service ?
