Had to stop here on my way home to Seattle from South Dakota to get a tick removed and they were…read morestellar. Went out of their way to make us comfortable and were so good with my big dog! Happy I got to come here and experience these people!

So my dog was hit by a truck and we rushed him into Moore Lane Vet Clinic. My step daughter is a…read morevet tech and examined the dog prior to taking him in and said he was very injured and he would not survive the night. I took him in to have him humanely put down but before we could explain they took him into the back and preformed examinations and procedures we did not ask for, only to tell us that the dog would not survive the night. To be clear on this point, anyone could have looked at our poor dog and within a few minuted came to the same conclusion. With tire treads in his fur across his abdomen and chest, he was not long for this world (he went under both tires). Moore lane refused to put down my dog until i paid them 700 dollars. They actually came out after doing ultrasounds and giving him pain meds to announce that yes there was nothing they could do and that they needed to put him down he was in alot of pain. Then they told me i would have to pay before they could put him down. I put it on my credit card because they were the only place answering their phones on memorial weekend and i couldnt stand to see our dog suffer anymore. My son was his favorite and so i left the decision of what to do with his remains up to him. He wasnt sure but decided that his collar was enough. They put our dog down. The next morning (the dog was put down the night before at about 8pm) my son had a change of heart and decided he wanted the ashes. I told him there was a chance they already disposed of his remains, but i would try. I called 4 times over the next two days and a desk clerk answered everytime, but gave me the same answer everytime, they didnt know where the remains were and they would call me back when they located them. The last two times they told me to stop calling they would call me if they had news. Its 4 days later now and no one has bothered to call me to say the obvious thing, they dont know where he is and they dont care. This business milked me for unnecessary testing, refused to put my dog down untill i paid, then didnt evem have the common courtesy to return a phone call. I hope everyone with pets reads this and will avoid this business at all costs. They are greedy hypocrites. Shame on you.

However the guy who adopted her the day before and brought her back because of a "family emergency" is low on my people list. We were given a BIG bag of dog food to feed our dog even though we told them we didn't need it. They even let us know that she had food allergies so we needed to be careful of what type of dog food we fed her.

As someone who has supported Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS) for decades, I've had a…read morefront-row seat to their incredible growth and transformation. While some older reviews reflect a time when the shelter was under different leadership and struggling with management and outdated practices, the YVAS of today is an entirely different organization--one that the Billings community should be proud to have. YVAS has evolved into a professional, compassionate, and highly efficient operation. Their length of stay for animals is impressively short--far below the national average--which speaks volumes about their dedication to finding loving homes quickly and responsibly. This is not a shelter that warehouses animals or euthanizes for space; this is a shelter that works for every single life. What's even more remarkable is that they do all of this with very little funding from city and county contracts, yet they operate a million-dollar-plus organization with integrity, transparency, and heart. Most of the leadership team has been there for nearly a decade (or longer!) and many of them hold nationally recognized certifications in animal care and shelter management. Their experience shows--in the way they care for the animals, train their staff, and educate the public. If you've read negative reviews from the past or from individuals who may not fully understand how shelters operate, I encourage you to take a second look. YVAS is not only one of the best-run shelters in Montana, but I would argue they're one of the best in the region. Their commitment to animal welfare is unmatched, and the lives they've saved over the years tell the real story.
