I'll start by saying this was one of the best tours we have ever been on, and I do not say that lightly. If I could give our guide, Elena, infinity stars, I would. When you book (and you absolutely must), ask for Elena. She was not only an absolute joy to be around, but she is incredibly knowledgeable. She knew exactly where to go and when based on the weather, and she is a true expert in all things Yellowstone: the wildlife, the thermal features, the geology, the history. I could go on and on. My husband and I were celebrating my 50th birthday the day of our tour, and I could not have asked for a more magical day. We were a little nervous since it was shoulder season, but those worries disappeared the moment we got started. From the first stop to the last, it was nothing short of spectacular. We were fortunate to see an incredible amount of wildlife throughout the day, but two moments stood out above the rest. First, watching a herd of bison, including a precious newborn calf, was breathtaking. Then came the showstopper: a bear emerging from hibernation. Elena spotted what looked like a tiny dot on a distant cliffside, sprinted to her vehicle to grab a telescope, and within minutes we were watching that bear in real time. It was one of those moments you genuinely cannot believe you are witnessing. That brings me to another wonderful perk of this tour. In addition to the binoculars provided to each guest, the guides carry high-powered telescopes they set up quickly and effortlessly, so you can truly see the wildlife up close. It makes a world of difference. This is a tour we will never forget, and we are already planning to come back in the summer with our daughter. You better believe we will be requesting Elena. We booked a safari experience with this company during our annual family ski trip, which included transportation to and from the park. While en route, the driver rear-ended a fully stopped vehicle at highway speed. The impact was significant and airbags deployed. My wife and two children (both under 10) were in the vehicle. EMTs evaluated us on scene and, thankfully, everyone ultimately recovered, though there was bruising and soreness following the collision. What was most disappointing was the lack of follow-up or care from the company. We had to initiate contact ourselves days later and never received any meaningful outreach, apology, or effort to ensure our family was okay or to take ownership of the situation. Accidents can happen, but how a company responds matters. I waited several weeks to post this to give them time to do the right thing. read more

We spent the whole day with Gary Vodenhal, as our tour guide. From 6:30 am to about 3:30 pm. The Cadillac SUV was very comfortable and a pleasure to ride in. Very clean, nice snacks and refreshments. He was such a nice , comfortable guy to be with-quiet, relaxed, and sensitive to our needs. Also very knowledgeable and with a very conversational style. We just got back from our trip to Yellowstone and I cannot say enough great things about our Safari. Kat was amazing from the start, picking us up on time, early in the morning. She knew her stuff and obviously loves her job. Her knowledge, as well as her amazing eyesight and intuition allowed us to see 11 grizzlies. Eleven!! Our very first wildlife sighting was so close that we could not even get out of the van for our own safety. A mother grizzly was standing up on her hind legs looking right at us. We had literal eye contact. She went over to her 3 cubs, moved them farther away from the road but still close enough for us to get great pictures and video of them playing in the snow. We also saw too many bison to count, including some close to the road encounters. We saw mountain goats perched on the edge of a cliff. We saw many, many elk crossing the road, jumping over fences & sometimes stopping to look at us before moving on. We even spotted a moose eating his breakfast. The snacks and lunch were delicious and of course the scenery was ridiculously beautiful. We have driven through the park before, and I think we saw one elk. Our tour guide for both tours was Maia. She was an extremely knowledgeable and skilled guide. She wrote in our maps showing us everywhere we've been and where we seen animals. The vehicles were clean. They had snacks in the car that were delicious. They provide lunch and scopes. We booked a private tour just me and my husband and would not have toured Yellowstone the first time without a tour. We would have never been able to find some of the beautiful spots on our own. My wife and I just went on a 10 hour trip throughout Yellowstone yesterday with this company and it was outstanding! Elizabeth was our guide and she was very knowledgeable, friendly, and truly added to our wonderful experience. She took us to all the sites, but she also took us to some of the places that she felt were interesting, and once we saw those, we totally agreed with her! The snacks that were in our vehicle, it was just the two of us in a large SUV, we're varied and plentiful. The box lunch that we had sitting on a bench overlooking Yellowstone lake was really nice too. Of course the weather helped out and it was just an absolutely gorgeous day! Took the 'Best of Yellowstone' safari with our guide Gabrielle. Everything was fantastic! On the logistics side, everything went smoothly - Gabrielle picked us up when she said she would, and the van was equipped with a basketful of snacks for each seat, along with binoculars for everyone (which came in really handy!). We were also each given a souvenir metal water bottle, and were provided lunch as well - a nice turkey wrap with some chips, a brownie, and a drink! The tour itself was fantastic as well - we saw a lot of the hot springs, as well as Old Faithful, and we were fortunate enough to see some wildlife - deer and bison mostly. We even saw some bison crossing a river, which Gabrielle said she'd never seen on her tours before! And Gabrielle was terrific - she was very knowledgeable, but more than that, she seemed like she genuinely enjoyed her job and being a tour guide. She's one of those people who gave off such a positive vibe that one would think she might want to do this even if she weren't getting paid! As for the price, it's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely reasonable considering it's an 8-hour tour with everything included (the only thing not included was a $20 park fee when we entered the park). Not sure if I'll ever be back in the Yellowstone area, but if I am, I would definitely look into another tour from this company, and I would also highly recommend them to any friends who are visiting Yellowstone. read more

My wife and I had an excellent experience last week with the Yellowstone Safari Company. First, a note to the wise: if you have any questions, call the office before booking. I signed up for an open-group walking safari, thinking that would be the best bet to see a variety of wildlife. Turns out, I should have signed up for the actual wildlife safari, as you will see more wildlife by covering a lot of ground in the van vs. hiking in a smaller area As to the experience: my wife and I ended up with a private tour led by our guide Will. He asked us what we wanted to achieve (hike? see all the sights? look for bears and wolves?) and after we answered "see as many animals as possible", he adjusted our itinerary on the fly. Will made it a great day. He was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and a great conversationalist. Yellowstone Safari Company provided Will, a van, food, water, binoculars, and spotting scopes. Not only did we have a great guide, we also got lucky on the weather and cooperative wildlife. In one long day in Yellowstone National Park, we saw birds of prey (osprey, bald eagles, golden eagle), predators (wolves, coyote, badgers, black bear, grizzly bears), and large herbivores (mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, bison, prong-horn antelope). To set expectations, some of the herbivores and smaller predators were readily seen from the road. Our wolf, grizzly bear, and mountain goat sightings were all via spotting scope. I would recommend this company without reservation to anyone visiting the park for the first time. We would never have had such a great experience on our own. read more

Exceeded all expectations! My friend and I did a Winter Safari Tour with Grant and it was simply amazing! Grant is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of Yellowstone & Tour Guiding. We learned so much about Yellowstone's geology, biology, and ecology. I was blown away by the beauty of the terrain, mountains, and mammals. We were lucky enough to get to go to Yellowstone National Park but were worried that it would be too overwhelming or that we would miss important features. We were doubly lucky to get a day trip with Yellowstone Safari Company for a Wildlife Safari tour and then our worries disappeared. The day was great and made educational and fun by the knowledge and guidance of Ash Tallmadge. It was as if she had an almost magical ability to spot a wide mix of animals in their natural habitat. Her skills were readily apparent and her love of the Park and animals was infectious. She clearly loved her job and was quite good at it. She packed us a delicious lunchbox and found us the most picturesque secluded spot (but easily reachable for this less than athletic city-boy) at a creek with the mountains facing us. I feel that we had hit the lottery to have gotten her as our guide but it was great to see that other guides seemed similarly liked. While driving, the guides in the company shared information on sightings to maximize the experience for all of their clients and those that we met at the side of the road looking into the spotting scopes supplied were clearly happy with their experience). We cannot sing the praises enough of our experience and highly and unreservedly recommend Yellowstone Safari Company. read more

Our guide Rae was fantastic! We had to pivot due to the park closure, but she pulled a great day out of her safari hat for us. She was very knowledgeable and knew just where to go to see loads of different animals. We all appreciated her knowledge and her deep respect for nature. We learned a lot! She also gave us tons of great tips for our remaining two days at the park and she was spot-on for all of them. Our trip was greatly enhanced by what we learned from her. Staff at the home office were very helpful, especially with communications after the flood and park closure. If you do have medical dietary needs, please be sure to proactively communicate with them and bring your own back up food. I have been mildly obsessed with wolves for quite a few years now and seeing them in the wild has been on the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember. My husband and I chose the 3 Day Winter Wolves and Wildlife Safari and could not have been more pleased with our experience. This was truly one of the best safaris we have ever had, all thanks to our expert Naturalist guide, Grant, and the Yellowstone Safari Co. After working in the safari industry myself for over six years, I have had the privilege of being on safari with some of the best guides in the world, and certainly have high expectations. Grant is one of the best guide we've ever had, hands down. Not only was he able to help us spot, track, photograph and view more species than we thought possible, he also did a great job of ensuring that we were comfortable, enjoying our experience, and had everything we could possibly need. Yes, we were keen to see wolves, but we also really enjoy all different kinds of species, big and small, and get excited by the little things like tracks and scat too. Grant did a great job of ensuring we had a varied experience based on what we enjoyed. My husband and I are generally quite active, and Grant was able to get us out of the vehicle to hike and explore the ecosystem in other ways. Some of our favorite wildlife tracking and sightings happened outside traditional viewing, which we absolutely loved. Grant was flexible and enthusiastic and it was really special to feel like we were a part of the larger conservation efforts in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem by being a part of this tour. The company does a stellar job of providing all the equipment and other accommodations you could ever need. The vehicle was large, comfortable, always clean and we always felt safe (I'm a total backseat driver normally). They had top notch binoculars, spotting scopes, snowshoes, hiking poles, and all the snacks we could ever need. We got great recommendations for dinners while staying in Gardiner and Grant even went above and beyond his required time with us to show us the town and get us a different perspective of the area. You can also tell that this operation is incredibly well respected among the conversation community that spends most of their time wildlife spotting in the park. It feels really great to know that your tourism dollars and efforts are going to such a wonderful organization. We even happened to run into Ash, the company Manager, on our last day, who shared in an exciting wildlife viewing experience with us and even shared some really interesting personal photos from a recent hike she had done in the park. This is the best way to see Yellowstone. We had been to the park before for a week and yet saw more and learned more in these few days than we thought possible. We did a 3 day tour with Grant. In those 3 days we saw a bear in a den with cubs, wolves, moose, so many bison, long horn sheep, prong horns and so much more. We started the day in a beautiful SUV with snacks, warm drinks and a general plan for the day. The guides are in touch with other guides and have built relationships with the many enthusiasts that visit the park everyday. They exchange information and so our guide knew where moose were sleeping in the woods, where the bear and cubs were hiding and where a wolf was spotted. A large bison carcass had emerged from a defrosting pond and the guide planned an early day knowing animals would come to feast and it was incredible. His knowledge of the park, the animals, the seasons and the service was off the charts. We did a hike each afternoon based on his suggestions but at the pace and distance we wanted. We had good dinners at nice restaurants and stayed at a wonderful hotel at night. He helped with bags and picked us up from dinner at night. There is no way we would have seen so much without his help and expertise. Not having to drive and watch for bison in the road made the time more relaxing. The price is reasonable especially when you factor in rental car prices, gas, food, hotel, experience, seeing everything that most people would miss, being relaxed, snacks and hot beverages at anytime. We didn't open our wallet the entire time except to pay for a few beers. Highly recommend!!! read more
