I admit - I was not sure when I arrived here with my peeps. But I was definitely impressed with the food! We ordered two large breads, tabbouleh salad (Chopped parsley, tomatoes, mints, mixed with lemon dressing, ours was supposed to have cracked wheat, but somehow it was missing) and 1 plate of hummus (pureed chickpeas/garbanzo with garlic,lemon and some Tahini aka sesame, topped with olive oil) for starters. Fresh and tasty, it was - giving me an inkling of what was to come next. I had ordered the Chicken Fahsah (Special Yemeni soup mixed with meat & vegetables) which came in a rustic shaped hand carved stone bowl. That was steaming hot and instantly made it qualify for comfort food. Works with rice or the Yemeni bread - which is gigantic and almost the size of the table itself. Of course the food from the region is served in a communal fashion, designed to be shared and larger portions to ensure no one goes hungry! Our next course was Chicken Ghallaba, served on a bed of yellow rice and sauteed vegetables as well. This was itself a complete meal/dish, but with everyone sampling the entrees as they arrived, everything was disappearing quickly and one did not feel too full. We then also tried the lamb Agdah, which did not seem to be on the menu - but was equally delicious and all the meats were well cooked, soft and supple. What a lovely treasure in Hamtramck! This location moved across the street 3 months ago and has a bigger and nicer interior. The service is casual but quick and the staff are very friendly to those who have questions about the cuisine. We ordered the lamb soup, which was slightly disappointing because there was no lamb. It was lemony and not bad for $1.50, though. We then got the fahsah and the agadah. The faradah arrives in a piping hot bowl with egg and optional meat like Lamb or chicken. It says soup but it's more like a casserole consistency. The agadah was by far the best part of the meal. Incredibly flavored vegetables, big pieces of roasted Lamb and a lot for 2 people. Their large bread is huge and crispy. Will definitely return to try more dishes. Don't forget to help yourself to the free and delicious cardamom tea near the cashier! read more

Our first experience with Yemeni food and it has become one of our favorites cuisines!! We enjoyed the authentic experience. A family friendly restaurant that seemed popular for the local residents. Our only issue was that service was a little slow. The Yemeni bread is a must! It's reminded us of a large naan, except lighter and chewier. The chicken Fahsah was fantastic- hearty stew with a zing of peppers. We also got chicken Gallaba with hummus. The chicken was very flavorful and the fresh green onions added bright note. Whoa, some seriously good food in this unassuming spot next to a busy park in Hamtramck. Service was friendly and opinionated - in a good way - determined to steer us to good food choices. We started with a dreamy hummus, served with sides of both rashoosh bread and Yemen bread. We followed with grape leaves that weren't pretty to look at but tasted delicious. Then the half fish (salmon) grilled with spices and served with rice and awesomely tasty Yemeni vegetables. Two thumbs up from across the table. The fish takes 30 minutes to prepare so try the great appetizers and enjoy yourself while waiting. We ate so much and had a full bag of leftovers. I've been to this place a few times. I don't know what authentic Yemeni food is supposed to taste like, but when I bring the food to work, my friends tell me it's the legit things. The menu has traditional Yemeni food and I'm so glad I'm able to taste some of it! You're missing out if you don't try it. Believe me, it's worth the try. Not a looker, but the food is definitely worth it. Haneeth wins my heart everywhere and I think it's one of the stars here. Gallaba is full of warming spicy notes, like a stir fry surprise! The lamb fahsah which is a soup... this is what you come here for with the bread and it's like the heavy meaty gravy juices and goodness from a braised piece of red meat that you devour in the winter. I actually first went was it was in more of a hole-in-the-wall type spot across the street from where the current spot is now, suggested by a good friend of mine who lived just around the corner. The lamb Fahsah is the best thing I have ever eaten. Think the best savory soup you can imagine. It is the heartiest, most satisfying comfort food on the planet. Order a side order of the flat bread to dip in it, and ughhhh just to die for. That is what I would recommend starting with, but no joke everything is SO good. Even the fries. It's a beautiful glorious hole-in-the-wall with excellent service, food that is tear worthy, and hours that mean you can show up late at night when you have had a bad day, or break up, or whatever, and indulge in that comforting goodness. I walked in and expected myself to be greeted by the host. I had to approach to the cashier and tell them that l was dining in. The lamb was REALLY tender and juicy, the meat literally slid off the bone and the fat on the lamb was amazing. The dish came with yellow rice and potatoes. The Yemeni bread is a must for a side, the soft texture made it appealing. After I was done eating, I expected to receive the bill from the waitress. Had the lamb liver and potatoes because I was trying reach a little out of my comfort zone, and I'm glad I did. First it was wonderfully fragrant, spices just coming right for the olfactory sense, second its colorful, almost autumnal with the reds, yellows and oranges of the meal. Lastly , ROBUST flavors, and a lot of them id guess that the total regional palate is represented in this dish. Here's your warning , it's 5 of 10 on my spicy scale, 10 being unbearably hot, which I really enjoyed and did NOT expect. The special tea is not to be missed either, it's impressive I also had a shawarma just in case my foray into the culinary unknown went awry and it was good as well but not nearly as "electric" as my entree. Service was scant, and I felt we should have pulled out, but we stuck it out. There was a Longer wait than anticipated for water delivery and placing our order. We ordered the Yemen sampler for four. Believe this was priced at$69.00 First we were served Hummus, pita, and salad; these were the best tasting items of our visit. Next came a large tray of meats and rice: various kabobs, chicken breasts, and some ground meats that resembled kofta. What sucked here was our table never received the knives I asked for. The meats were tough, so we tried our best to fork-cut everything and maintain some civility. The kofta was both tough and overly salted. We ended up boxing this up 'to -go' and donating to a homeless person near I75 freeway ramp. read more

Lamb Haneeth (roasted lamb served on a bed of yemeni rice) tasted good. Both the lamb fahsah and chicken fahsah tasted good too Its Lamb or chicken in a stew/gravy served in this hot bowl made of stone or something...idk but it made it seem cool and authentic. You eat it with this bread that is kind of like a giant Indian naan. All of the flavors collectively work really well together. The Rotisserie chicken wasnt as good. It lacked flavor and tasted kinda bland. Tasted even more bland when i ate it with the bread. I had to finish it somehow so ate it with the flavored rice or just broke off pieces off the bone and put it in my leftover fahsah gravy. The bill always used to add up pretty quickly until i turned the pages of the menu and discovered the Yemen Cafe platter for 4. This came up clutch as hell. Its all the popular items i usually order but in one combo platter for a lower price. Definitely get the best bang for your buck with this. Service is very fast and very friendly. And every time i come here, the waiters always check up multiple times. These guys def deserve their tips. They also have free tea available. But my go to (which looks like a lot of people's go tos) is the lamb fahsah, which comes straight sizzzzilin in a hot pot with shredded lamb and vegetables. DELICIOUS. Only tried their Fattah with Banana ($6.99). It's a dense bread pudding, similar in nature to french toast but very filling. We had it mixed with banana and the honey and butter was a nice complement. Visually it's not attractive, but the flavors are mild and cohesive. I like the fact that it can be eaten as a breakfast food or for dessert. Traditionally, it's considered a breakfast food. The tea looked wonderful, but I didn't try it personally. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Michigan and in Detroit. I love spices and Yemen food is like the perfect love child of African and Middle Eastern food.
