The customer service was good and we got our food quickly. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and it was a nice size. The garlic sauce, pickles and other vegetables made the sandwich taste really fresh. We also ordered the salad with chicken and almond rice. I have been coming to this location when they were in the mall. Lately the service is good, but the food is awful! The kabab dinner wasn't fresh, over cooked no sides, and rice (dry). The meat was old and over cooked. I paid over 26.00 for a dinner and a sandwich. Called to report the food. Lately people are returning their orders. Check your food before leaving, since the food isn't the same as when the older men were running and cooking the food. I was so upset I didn't eat the dinner. It is not very big inside, and tables are limited, so depending on when you go, there may not be tables available a couple of times. I had to take it back to work this place is right down the street from where I work. My only gripe is that the restaurant is full, with no place to sit and eat. Ordered a hummus and shawarma plate, Greek with grilled chicken, 2 crushed lentil soups, cobra juice as well. Whoever took our order had some difficulty understanding my order, speak slowly and enunciate. Ended up having to correct my order a few times to make sure I got a juice and not something else. Called in the order, it would take about 15 minutes to get our order ready. This is right next to the shoe store I have been going to for a decade or longer to replace heels on my shoes. Food was done after 15 or so. Had to wait a few minutes longer for the cobra. It's hard to socially distance while we waited for our order inside. There were 3 other people waiting for their food order too. The cobra juice is decent. Not sure why it's called the cobra, feels like it should have some bite to it to something. Most prominent is the beet and carrot juice. The crushed lentil cooled on the 15 minute drive home, reheated it a bit and added 1.5 TBS of lemon juice to make the bowl a bit more style. It's nice to find their crushed lentil doesn't have rice as filler in it, it's pretty good. The soup was in a bowl container. I would have ordered only one if I had known an order would be defaulted to a bowl size for each order. The Greek salad is decent. Odd with the pickle slices and pickled turnips in it. The dressing is nice. The tomatoes are not ripe at all. The hummus is silky smooth and tastes good. The shawarma meat is grilled chicken, a bit sparse for this plate portion, if you ask me. I had more grilled chicken on my Greek salad than there was on the hummus and chicken plate dish. The Greek was $1 less than the chicken and hummus plate too. Food overall was average, as was the service. I don't think it was $42 worth of food. read more

I really wanted to love this spot because it's so close to me, but alas...back to Pita Cafe I go. It wasn't terrible, but with so many good Mediterranean options in this area, it just doesn't stack up. The falafel was good, and the hummus was ok, but you can't really mess that up. Overall, everything was a bit...watery, and the rice was super over-cooked. The veggie grape leaves were so mushy and salty, and the tabbouleh didn't seem as fresh as it is other places. I loved this place! They have gyros / Shawarmas with chicken, beef or lamb. I ordered a shawarma that was a huge pita that I broke into four pieces. Lamb over rice with onions, pickle and vegetables plus a tasty sweet sauce. Carrots, tomatoes, both picked and fresh onions. Meat was tender and lightly seasoned and a good sized portion. Faced a number of issues First off ....I ordered some pita bread from their website as the picture of the bread offered looked amazing....I paid for it and everything. He pulls something out of the cooler that was none of those things. It was a pre-made strawberry smoothie or something. Not What I asked for at all. 4. A little while back - maybe a year or so ago - I went in tbere to pick up an order. The girl behind the counter was doing something with the pita breads. She dropped one on the floor. She turned around to see if I saw. I did and she saw that I saw. But instead of tossing it in the garbage - which she should have done regardless If I saw jt happen or not - she just placed it on the counter off to the side. I get lunch from here all the time since it's by my office. The food is always fresh, hot, flavorful, and inexpensive! The chicken shawarma lunch combo is my favorite. The hummus with chicken lunch is really good too! The dressing they use for their house salad is bomb. Everything has a time and place, and that is exactly why Shish Kabob Express is so amazing. There are quite a few small Lebanese restaurants around town with service fast enough to get your lunch in an hour, but from a quicker service restaurant standpoint, this one wins. For the 10 years I've been eating sweet potato fries here, the quality has always been great. The service behind the counter (yes, it's a counter order joint) is hit or miss, but there have been some guys that I liked so much I made it a point to go get my food for carry out just to say hi every few months. My favorites? Chicken Ghallaba (call ahead for carry out, get the dinner and share it with a good friend/coworker - it's just better that way). The Chicken Shawarma Sandwiches are great and so is their house salad. I don't love their hummous. But it's just because I want it to have more lemon. Another favorite of mine is the carrot juice, made fresh just for you. Just try not to spill it all over your brand new car. They have lunch combos so you get your fill of food for a reasonable price and a few tables if you want to eat in, but get ready to wait in a long line. This small place (about 10 tables) serves the straight down the middle Lebanese cuisine featured at many restaurants in the Detroit area. The renditions are generally good. Sandwiches, hommous, tabbouli and baba ghannouj are characteristically flavored and fresh. Salads are nicely green. I would avoid getting the majadra unless you are a partisan of the bland and moist style (which I ritually avoid) that they feature. Shish Kabob Express may not have all the polish of some Middle Eastern restaurants. However, it is good enough to merit more than an occasional trip if you live or work in the area. The grilled vege's - the portion is one my 3 year old can polish off by herself. Bill cames to $60.00. Wow, never again. If you go to Ikes, Sam's Kabob House, any place down Hall Rd., The prices are cheaper and the amount is at least doubled. The fried kibbe alone, when you get 4 pieces at this restaurant, you get 12 pieces for 1 dollar more at all the other restaurants. Very disappointed and will NEVER recommend this place.
