we've gotten screwed by locksmiths in the past. the old "bait & switch" price quote - they give you a price over the phone, then charge you a much higher price once they arrive ("oh, the price i quoted you earlier was simply to arrive at your house to assess the job") shady locksmiths who take forever to arrive, probably so that you're desperate to pay whatever they ask, because you don't want to wait for the next locksmith to arrive. so on and so forth. so we expected a similar experience this time around, despite all the positive reviews here on yelp. i had become a total skeptic when it came to locksmiths. this all changed today. i called "yes locksmith" at 10:20pm. ramon quoted me a price over the phone, which i questioned a couple times, but he reassured me was the "all-in" quote. i wanted to be sure, so i sent him a couple pics of the lock i wanted replaced to his mobile phone. he called me right back and said the price he quoted earlier still applied. so i decided to give it a go. dude arrived at my house at 10:30pm. i mean, what? how? ten minutes after my initial call! ramon was done in about 15 minutes. he didn't have to drill the lock / remove anything / do anything extraneous, he simply replaced the inner lock mechanism so we could have a different set of keys open it. just like he said he would, over the phone. then he gave us the bill, which was ... exactly what he quoted us, over the phone. yes, charlie brown, there is such a thing as an honest locksmith. hopefully we won't be changing locks / locking ourselves out of our house too often moving forward, but whenever that inevitably happens, we know whom we'll be calling. props to ramon / yes locksmith. thanks for squashing the skeptic in me. no easy task. read more

Okay, I'm definitely the typical consumer in that I only leave reviews if I'm really angry or if I'm ELATED. Guess which one applies? The latter! My sister and I were in an awkward situation. We had our keys, but one of our two locks to our apartment had been broken for a while. We typically just lock one of them, but after our landlord had come by today to help repair when we weren't home, she had somehow locked BOTH and left us completely locked out. I had a negative experience with a locksmith before, so I was hesitant when logging onto Yelp to look for a different one. I saw YES and the awesome reviews, so I decided to give them a shout. I was in a tough spot coming home late from the airport. My bluetooth electronic lock had malfunctioned and I was unable to get in my apartment at 11PM on a Thursday. I called another locksmith first but received no answer. Next I called YES and they answered right away. I explained my situation to Ramon. He let me know that they were extremely busy and were a man short due to some situation with an elevator (ask Ramon for the story - pretty funny). He could've told me to call another place. Instead he told me if I could hang on a while he'd get to me as soon as possible. So I grabbed a beer from the store and sat on my front steps waiting for help. Ramon arrived and was very friendly, chill, and got to work right away. He was able to drill my crappy electronic lock (stay away from them) and even installed another lock for me. Walter was awesome!! He showed up super early and had to wait for me to arrive home. The plan was for him to open up my lock so I could determine the brand name and then order parts. The lock was so old he had to go to the hardware store to find a tool that would fit the screw. In the end, he was able to show me how to open, change the battery, and how to close.
