I was a patient at this office for nearly 10 years because I trusted Dr. Cheng. Unfortunately, after my recent experience, I lost that trust completely. After my root canal, I returned for my crown appointment. The temporary material could not be removed normally. The dentist repeatedly rocked and pulled on my tooth for a long time. I repeatedly said I was in severe pain, but the only response I received was, "It will be over soon." After multiple unsuccessful attempts, the material finally had to be cut out with a dental drill. That night, my tooth began hurting continuously. An X-ray later confirmed inflammation. I was prescribed one week of antibiotics, followed by another week when the pain did not improve. The prolonged antibiotics caused severe stomach pain and digestive problems, yet my tooth continued to hurt. I eventually sought a second opinion and was told there was separation between the tooth and the surrounding gum tissue, persistent inflammation, and that extraction was recommended. When I returned to discuss the situation, I felt that my concerns were dismissed. Rather than acknowledging that something may have gone wrong, the office focused on defending itself. The only solution offered was a refund for the root canal and a discount on future treatment, while I was expected to pay for correcting the damage. The reason I refused any further treatment from this office is because this was not the first time. About two years earlier, I chose to have what I believed was a minor procedure because I wanted to take care of my dental health before it became a bigger problem. Instead, I developed a serious infection afterward, and my face became severely swollen. I returned for additional treatment, but it failed again. I was eventually referred to another specialist, who successfully treated the problem. I was also told that the surgical wound was uneven and had not been completely closed. After experiencing two serious complications at the same office, I no longer had confidence in receiving additional treatment there. I understand that complications can happen in dentistry. What disappointed me most was not only the treatment outcomes, but also the lack of compassion, accountability, and respect when problems occurred. Updated review; last in 2017. This is in regards to new management in this office. Unfortunately, I have left this office mostly because I have moved out of state, and would have gladly come back, but my family has also begun to agree that their billing policies could be revised. The last time I was here, the service was good and the team was professional and knowledgeable but at the very end of a normal routine teeth cleaning (I have no teeth issues), they started tacking on random imaging and other procedures, and when questioned what they were for, they would hastily say it's indicated etc, but when I asked for what it was they were exactly doing, it became a little suspicious that they were just tacking unnecessary procedures. I changed dental offices soon after that, and the procedures were never recommended again. I've also seen my family members receive bills that really don't make much sense for a routine cleaning; it's as if though they tack on random 40-200$ here and there, like a normal oil change in which by the time you're done, you're somehow paying for brakes, wipers, fluids etc that you're not even sure had to be done but because you don't know the field, you trust the professional treating you. I urge that this office be more open with patients about what is being done and have open conversations. This office is in Buford highway and services underserved and a large migrant population. Billing random procedures and charging larger fees does not seem ethical, especially in a low literacy area. And I will say, dentistry for the general public is an elusive and esoteric field, unlike medicine where WebMD can provide most teaching. Overall, the service and work is done well and Dr. Cheng is still a leading specialist, but I question the ethics and billing of this place. I would not go back because I think patient physician relationships should be an open practice, but an open mouth and then open wallet without discussion/education process. read more

They've always treated me and my family with the utmost respect and they always make sure I'm doing okay. On top of that, they have some of the worlds most high tech stuff ever. I've never been to a dentist office that has completely open air rooms with patients. There are no doors here. You are sitting in a chair with your mouth wide open next to another stranger with their mouth wide open. Not only is that a privacy issue, but with covid it is insane. Please put up some doors. I did not go to the dentist in a while. I had a check up with x-rays and the dentist suggested a deep clean (descaling). This is not a fun procedure; but other than putting in the novocaine; this process was painless. My teeth feel great. Each person I encountered was kind, patient and took the time to explain everything. They will check your insurance to figure out what will work within your budget. I received a cleaning at Yi-Tsu Cheng, DDS & Associates the other day, and I am not sure if I'd recommend them. My breakdown: ***** I. BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT: I called and asked if they accepted my insurance provider (Delta Dental) and what time slots they had available for the week. Luckily, I found myself there the next day. II. LOCATION & PARKING: One shouldn't have any trouble finding this biz using either Google Maps or Waze. They have a spacious and free parking lot shared with the other businesses in their building. Spots are available in the lot adjacent to Food Terminal and City Farmers Market, too. III. PRE-SERVICE: I arrived 10 minutes early to fill out the paperwork. Upon finishing, I only probably waited five to ten minutes past my appointment time until a technician showed me to my room. *Note: The forms that they ask you to sign state that Yi-Tsu Cheng, DDS & Associates have the right to charge you (past 48 hours), for not arriving at an appointment. They also can refuse to provide services to those who miss three appointments or more. IV. SERVICE: Upon entering the room, a technician asked basic questions about my health, had pictures taken of the inside of it, and then had a radiographic scan taken of it. After 20-30 minutes with the technician, I waited for my hygienist. After waiting for 20 minutes or so, I meandered into the hallway and asked a staff member if anyone planned on coming. I waited a few more minutes until a hygenist rushed into my room to clean my teeth. (I think her name was Thao.) She was very professional and nice, but it felt kind of weird that no one thought to explain or apologize why it took so long for someone to see me. (I honestly think they just forgot.) Following my cleaning, I met the dentist and she noted several areas of my mouth demanded more of my brushing attention. (Tooth #30 and my back left.) The hygienist then spoke with me about where I could go to wrap up my appointment. The technician, who I met at the beginning, came in and provided the same information as the hygienist, so there was some duplication of services there. V. OVERALL: They cleaned my teeth well, but by the time my appointment ended I had been at the office -- excluding the ten minutes I arrived prior to my appointment time -- an hour and twenty minutes. They have some kinks to work out. Would I give them another shot? Sure. Would I recommend them? Hmm, probably not. read more

Been coming here for a few years. Dentists and dental assistances are very nice and addresses all the concerns before and after service. The facility is clean and there is a mini refrigerator with free bottles of water for anyone waiting on their appointment. The reason for not giving a 5 star is the lack of advance notification when there is a change in how the service will be paid. The office had always charged insurance and receive payments. With the recent visit, they did not notify the patient when they no longer accept a particular insurance and ONLy after the service was complete, did they inform the patient. This meant that that patient will be required to pay before checking out. It brings confusion and waste time as it could have been handled before service is provided possibly through email or a short phone call so patients are not caught a surprise invoice (several hundred). It also means that the patient will be on hook for higher fees now the office is out of network. This will have a significant impact depending on what services were performed that day and a major headache for any budget conscious people. There is also a $25 charge for not notifying ahead of time in the event an appointment is missed. Update - Moving back to 5 stars. The office called to apologize and explain the new process. They opt out of the insurance and was considered Out Of Network. They also inform me on how the reimbursement will work and provided the amount and duration for the reimbursement. Additionally, the staff followed up afterward to ensure everything has been taken cared of. read more

Totally incompetent and a nightmare experience. I went in for a filling for a cavity. They cut too far into the nerve, and I was in excruciating pain. Then what was a simple filling for a cavity turned into a root canal. Two years later, the root canal fails, and it gets infected, and I am in excruciating pain again. I had to see an endodonics to get rid of the infection and have the root canal redone because of their negligence. I had to pay a fair amount of money out of pocket as a result of their incompetence and negligence in addition to the pain and suffering that I had to endure. read more

My mom was the patient, so I'm writing part of this review on her behalf since she doesn't have a yelp account. +1 star: Basics - The office has plenty of parking, the staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. The waiting room and exam rooms are clean. +1 star: Bilingual - The staff and dentists speak Chinese and English fluently, which I appreciated because I'm an ABC and my mom speaks mainly Chinese. +1 star: Detailed - The dentist took multiple x-rays, and found issues with my teeth that my previous dentist didn't identify. The dentist took the time to explain the issues, point it out on the x-rays, and her recommended treatment plan. +1 star: Flexibility - The dentist offered to stay past her office hours to work on my teeth. We ended up choosing not to do the procedure that late, but her being willing to work over time for me was amazing. +1 star: Scheduling - Due to the tropical storm warning in Atlanta from Hurricane Irma, we had to reschedule our part 2 appointment for the recommended procedures. The office has been very responsive to our rescheduling needs, and have kept us updated on availability, and waiting lists. I've always been looking for a clinic to go to for my regular dental checkups and I might have just found the right one. The staff here are really friendly and especially Dr. Cheng, who is very professional in her work. I came here to check out the pain I was having at the back of my mouth and found out that my wisdom tooth had to be extracted. I was surprised how quickly and seamlessly the procedure was done and I highly recommend Dr. Cheng and her team to anyone who needs to go to the Dentist for any reason; from a simple check up, to complicated procedures such as wisdom tooth extractions. I've been a patient of Dr. Cheng for several years and only trust her and her staff's expert hands to handle my teeth. I'm pretty nervous when it comes to dental stuff, but Dr. Cheng always takes time to clearly explain what she's about to do so that I can feel much more relaxed. She's also very kind and sympathetic towards my sensitivity, which I really appreciate. The hygienists who do my teeth cleanings are very thorough and make the procedure comfortable. And lastly, the staff here is not only helpful, but also very upbeat and friendly - they remember me by name and always put me in a good mood! I recently got Invisalign here and it was a quick turnaround from assessment to receiving my first set of aligners. Definitely consider it if you're looking to get straighter teeth without the inconvenience of braces! I recently moved to Atlanta and I needed to find a new dentist. I needed to find an office that would be open on Saturdays due to my work schedule and I didn't get any recommendations from friends so I went to Yelp. This was the first office that I found, so I was like "Why not?". I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the overall experience with my visit. Some of the things that I enjoyed: 1. Wait time - I'm used to the horrible wait time at any doctors' office, but my wait time here was about 5-10 minutes from the time I sat down to the time that my name was called. 2. Full disclosure - The staff went over everything that they were going to do and explained the reasons for doing it. I hate it when I'm going somewhere and people do things without telling me why. 3. Language - I am Vietnamese, but I speak fluent English. I don't know if it was intentional or not but I was paired up with someone who also spoke Vietnamese. Even though I didn't need that option, it was nice to know that other languages are offered there to help anyone who needs it. Again, overall my experience was really good. I was dreading going to the dentist and was avoiding it for various reasons, but I definitely had a great experience at this practice. Everyone from the front desk to the assistants to the doctors were very nice and informative. I liked how I knew a general estimate of what my insurance would or would not cover BEFORE any procedure was done. I went in for a routine clean up, but found out that I had several cavities. They made time for me to get the cavities filled instead of making me make another appointment (time is valuable). They also let me know another price breakdown before proceeding and were willing to work with me payment wise. I also wanted advice for something cosmetic that I have been wanting for years, and they provided me with different approaches and techniques that I could do. Well, I don't want to argue whether it is a miscommunication issue or not here, I will state the truth by updating my review: 1. This is the only dental office I had that asked to pay big extra owns money for a regular dental service. My dental insurance covered 100% for cleaning plus imaging when I had similar service from other dental offices. The charges for my first and second visits from Cheng's dental office is $470 in total, and I paid $260 of them myself. The charged items included: -- Comprehensive Oral Evaluation $85.00 -- Complete Set Radiographic Images $140.00 -- Cleaning - Adult $95.00 -- Periodic Oral Evaluation $55.00 -- Cleaning - Adult $95.00 2. The doctor always asked me to do this or that treatments after a 2 minutes quick evaluation every time when I had teeth cleaning. Felt pushed somehow since I knew my teeth are healthy overall (from my other dentists). Comments: I will not recommend your dental service to any friends of mine, unless they have the best dental insurance or they are willing to pay big money from their pockets. The best doctor/dentists I have in my life! We all know how the normal procedures are when you have a doctor's visit: you go in, pay a copay if applicable, weeks later you receive a bill either you are not expecting or one that is so high that makes your blood pressure goes up. If you ever tried to ask for an estimate during your visit, you'll just been told the clinic can't find out that information because they only use the codes, which translates to different amount for every insurer, blah blah blah useless junk. Never at this clinic though. Jessica always give you an estimate before a procedure, so you can decide if you are at a good place financially to go through with it. They also work with your insurance to make sure that you will pay the least amount out of pocket. For example, i have a couple of cavities that need to be filled. When I had a conversation with Jessica, she suggested since i only have a few hundred left in my insurance, I should get 3 fillings in 2017 with 2017 insurance, and get the rest in 2018, so they all will be partially covered by my insurance. I will be continuing going to this clinic as long as I live in Atlanta. I also recommend this place to all my friends because it is the best clinic I ever visited! read more
