The salmon teriyaki bento box is a bit overpriced. It was about $18. It came with miso soup and salad. The piece of salmon was in teriyaki sauce and nothing else. White rice. Five (5) pieces of shumai. Comparable lunch bento box at other restaurants is about $3-$4. I should have taken a photo. We won't be order that again. read more

My friends and I decided to grab a party platter of sushi from Yimo to share and catch up one day. Service was friendly, but took longer than expected. We ended up taking the platter to go, but on a quick glance the inside of the restaurant was clean and very reminiscent of other sushi restaurants. The food itself was pretty good, but we did feel that it could have looked a little fresher. The variety in the platter was good, and it mostly focused on more "basic" rolls as opposed to special rolls. I wish there was an option to customize the platter a bit, as we would have gladly paid a little extra for more special rolls, but we were told this was not possible on the day we visited. Wow... and when I say "wow" to start off a review, it's usually a great thing. Not tonight. Don't get me wrong... it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't something that would survive in NYC, and since I'm a damned snob from NYC, that's my perspective. I did like the Japanese music playing here. And they don't use MSG (according to management, but we'll know for sure in the morning if my step-mom blows up like a blow fish). I also liked the server, who I felt might be management or ownership. Unfortunately, the place has a small a/C unit for the dining room (it feels like a humid 78F in here), and as you can see from a photo, the seating is pretty cramped. The miso soup tastes like someone added some fake miso and some sugar to some hot water. Shumai was so/so, but my pops says they're out of a bag, not homemade. Shrimp Tempura is supposed to be 3 shrimp and 4 pcs vegetable tempura. I asked for 4 shrimp with no veggies and they did so. But the shrimp is somewhat overcooked and the batter was hard, and even with the tempura sauce, the whole thing was basically tasteless. My daughter's Avocado Salad was served without any sauce, so she was a little freaked out till we discovered that they simply forgot it. Once she got it, she found out that it was pretty lame. Maybe they *should* use MSG. Yikes. My Salmon Avocado roll was a bit firm (the Avocado and rice), and the rice was cool, but it was ok. My wife liked her special sushi roll a lot (yellowtail, salmon, topped with Avocado and spicy mayo). I ordered a yellowtail scallion hand roll and got a completely different kind of hand roll, but it was pretty decent, whatever it was. Step-mom got a California roll with brown rice, found it bad with their soy sauce, asked for eel sauce, they charged $1 for it, and she complained to us for an hour. I love yimo. Every time I'm here which is very often the service is amazing. Yes sometimes I can't u feest and what the waitresses are saying but it's okay. They make up for it w their amazing food. Sushi, delicious and super flavorful. My fave veggi lo mein and rice. Both a bit over oily but very good I get them every time. All the food other than sushi is equally as good. The food was really good the first time I ordered take out. The second time I ordered delivery I got sop and tempura veggies. I love the Udon soup. The soup was cold but could be reheated in the microwave. The tempura veggies were ice cold and turned to mush when reheated. Just your average sushi place located in a strip mall. If you check in with Yelp, you receive a complimentary edamame appetizer. It's quite small inside with a sushi bar in the rear. We were seated right away and received our drinks. We ordered the veggie pad thai, Japanese fried rice, salmon rolls, volcano roll, and fire island roll. The pad thai lacked flavor and was very bland. It was pretty much the same with the Japanese fried rice. Definitely would not recommend either. Both sushi rolls pretty much tasted the same. All in all, nothing special stuck out about this place. Place was clean and by the time we left, the place started filling up. Also, they do have ramen here as well. We were happy with our meal here recently. The prices comparatively on their sushi and bento boxes are better than most Japanese places. The same menu prices are applicable for lunch and dinner. With a Yelp check-in, we also received a free edamame appetizer. We both went with the Bento boxes, because the price could not be beat for about $11-12/person for dinner. Most other establishment charge twice as much for a dinner bento box. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento box. I've certainly had better chicken teriyaki preparations, but for the price I really can't complain. The portion size was albeit a little smaller, but it was sufficient for our needs. I really liked the fried chicken app, but the beef negemaki was not very good. The sushi was mostly ok, spicy tuna was not very spicy. The rolls with mayo had way too much, but at least that was spicy. One roll was a little fishy, but no one got sick. Tuna sashimi had next to no flavor, and wasn't cut all the way through, so sometimes it would pull the top off the next roll. The best thing was the tobiko. Wife and kiddo love it, and I ordered 5 pieces. Turns out each order is 2 to an order, so 10 pieces came. They used each color, black, red, yellow, green and orange, so my daughter was all about it. This is based purely on the lunch specials. What you get is pretty much what you expect for a suburban based Japanese restaurant in the strip mall. The prices are fair and the quality pretty much reflects that. The salmon teriyaki lunch bowl is nothing really special. It comes with the saddest of salads with a slice of tomato and a container of salad dressing. The california roll is a step above super market sushi but not much more. The rice was surprisingly good, but the salmon was thin and not that flavorful. I can't really complain for the price, but i probably would not buy again. The chirashi lunch special is so so. Came here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by their menu. They have donburi bowls, takoyaki and ramen! We ordered a bowl, the takoyaki and a variety of sushi. Remember to check in for free edamame! Takoyaki wasn't as crispy as I would have liked, but still good. The best sushi and sashimi I've had by far. All very fresh and tasty. The prevention is beautiful with a personal touch. The special rolls are delicious and portions are generous. Price are quite reasonable given how much food you get. They don't skimp on anything. The staff is so sweet and service was very attentive and makes you feel at home when eating in. Look elsewhere for good and authentic Japanese food. Yes, I'd agree it's a cheap eat and there isn't much competition around the area, I'd drive somewhere else. The salmon nigiri I got was fine, the real issue was the beef teriyaki/tempura bento box I got. The beef was so stiff that I just couldn't swallow half of them. The tempura was also a disaster, the batter was so thick like never before. Have I mentioned that the miso soup tastes like water because the proportion is messed up? I get that most free miso soup is made by paster and powder, but less watery, please? Anyways I left without finishing them. I can't go on anymore. The food was very good. We started with an edamame and Beef Negimaki. The edamame was first quality. You could tell by the size and firmness they used the best. The Negimaki was very tasty and the beef was tender. The only thing it could have been hotter. My wife had the tempura asst. it came out very hot and perfectly fried. This place has OK sushi but their attitude sucks! They said 45 mins for delivery and after an hour and 20 mins, I call and the lady gets an attitude and said "Ok I cancel your order". Do yourself a favor and pass on this place and order from Suki, Nanami, or Mizu. Also, be mindful of the reviews of people getting sick after eating there and terrible restrooms. A bathroom says a lot about a restaurants cleanliness and this place is not it. BE AWARE!!! SUKI SUSHI in my opinion is SOOOOO much better as far as fresh sushi goes. Stumbled upon this place during my hour lunch break while looking for a new spot to eat. It was about a 10 min drive from my work place. I took a chance and went in hoping it wasnt too busy so that I had enough time to eat. It was in fact a bit busy, HOWEVER, I was seated right away and my food came out within 10/15 mins of being seated. I had ordered something small because i figured anything larger would take up too much time;a small miso soup, shrimp tempura rolls and salmon avocado rolls. The miso soup was delicious! And that came out within the first 5 mins of being seated. The rolls were also very good! I wish they were a bit bigger but considering they werent specialty rolls, i get it. The price definitely matched the quantity. I paid about $12 for everything.
