To start with they get a star just for the name. Yo Mamas is just a cool name. So the staff was friendly and got us seated/order taken quickly. My son had the salmon and I had the Yo Mamas burger. This place is in the front of a motel and was a pleasant surprise when you stepped foot inside. Well decorated. There was good space around the tables and everything was very clean. The service was excellent. Our drinks never fell below half full. Great menu. My wife had the "Yo Mama's Chicken." Our son had the teriyaki chicken and I had the steak kabob. The food was delicious. Just stopped into Yo Mama's for lunch - now, I normally wouldn't pick a restaurant called Yo Mama's - however, I read numerous reviews for a handful of restaurants in Socorro (we are on a road trip to Taos today) - there weren't a ton of options and we are planning on having New Mexican food tonight in Taos and didn't want fast food so we chose this place! Y'all- this place is excellent! My husband and I split a club sandwich on croissant bread and a spinach salad with homemade bacon dressing. It was so good and fresh!!!! They have a great kids menu with several options and my son had a burger that looked great! The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. I would definitely stop here again- it was easy on and off the interstate too. read more

Yo Mama's is a fairly new entrant in the Socorro dining market and I'm glad to say that it's a pretty good one. The location is a bit odd, they occupy the restaurant space in a hotel lobby but their general atmosphere is not quite discount motel, they're definitely aiming for a higher class kind of place. The food is good. The main highlights are the burgers, but there's generally everything you'd expect from a grill. The Tech Burger is my particular favorite. The service has been very friendly every time I've been there and things are usually pretty fast. I also feel that the prices are excellent compared to their nearest competition. Overall, a solid choice for a meal and hopefully here to stay. read more

While I scarfed up my very average grilled chicken Caesar, and munched a few bites of someone else's croissantwich with too much mayo, and dipped a few standard french fries in the ranch dressing, I couldn't help but compare the experience to a really bad dinner the night before, where we spent, easily, three times as much on food and drink. At Yo Mama's, two very on-the-ball wait persons ran a lunch rush of about six tables, perfectly. The food was just fine, it was diner food. The Game was on the tube. Locals talked about the university. My kid ate most of her grilled cheese, the homemade chips were a nice addition. See that? Four star experience. Not complicated. Decided to try this place since it moved to the new location. Service was good and attentive. The smoked turkey and avocado sandwich was OK. Turkey smoke was good, ingredients seemed fresh. It looks like a croissant but does not have the real flakiness of the real thing. Still OK. I typically do not like seasoned fries, but these were nicely cooked and had salt, pepper and a hint of paprika and tasted good. Refills on soda came in a timely manner. I have been here twice and each time the service was great and the food was delicious. The burgers are so filling and tasty. The different toppings like avocado, bacon, green chile, grilled onions, and mushrooms really add to the depth of the burger. The blackened chicken sandwich is seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The home chips are the way to go. Plus the mud pie is totally worth the price, serves 3-4 people. Wife order sirloin steak and backed potato. They only had one baked potato so she got mashed potato. Steak was about half grizzly fat and potato was dry. Had to ask for butter. Just got food poisoning at Yo Mama's on Wednesday afternoon. I ordered the Artichoke Dip and the mushrooms. After one bite, I had to send the mushrooms back, as they were extremely salty. The artichoke dip arrived with a pure puddle of mozzarella on top, and I ate maybe a third of it after scraping away the mozzarella. Customer service was not spectacular. After getting lost, because of Yelp, I searched for it on Google and GPSed that address. Took me right there. Server was friendly and fast. They have beers and a lot of NM wines.
