My sister and I discovered Yoga House a few months ago and now we rarely skip Jeanne's Monday night Level 1-2 class. Every one of her classes is well-crafted with a lot of opportunities to challenge yourself. Jeanne is patient and supportive, and really takes the time to demonstrate proper alignment and focus on small movements that make a huge difference in my practice. I first tried Yoga House with a one-month Groupon deal. It was my first time doing yoga in a studio (as opposed to a gym), and it was way better than I expected. I attended the Gentle and Beginning 1 classes, both of which provide amazing stretch for an office worker. After a couple of classes my posture was noticeably improved, too. I also loved the incorporation of blocks, straps, and blankets. I've since tried other yoga studios, but compared to Yoga House they feel commercial and do not have the same quality of teachers and instruction. The only reason I haven't been back is because it's a little pricey--especially for a young professional--which I get. When I'm able to, though, I'd happily become a member. read more

I give yoga house 2 stars...one for atmosphere, and the other for Jill's class...because she is really a great teacher. She is has great energy. Hannah on the other hand, is reason i will Never go back to yoga house. I had the anti-yoga experience with her, and Feel like my fellow yelpers should be prepared to take her class...especially if you dont care for ego driven, pushy, guilt trip instructors. Let's just say Hannah has an "air" about her. She enters the room pointing out if she doesn't know you, demanding your name, but not warmly welcoming you to her class. Intimidation factor begins right away...so i sigh it out...OM. But before i can lift myself out of downward facing dog, her hands grab my waist, my ribs, and eventually my hips! And this is NOT a gentle tap...i am telling you she dug her fingers to the point it hurt, and not only that but in her loud commanding voice told me i was doing it wrong, and why wasn't i following the rest of the class?! i like to be corrected, but this was ridiculous! After she scolded the class on how to be more RESPECTFUL to the teacher (have no clue what she is talking about) i vowed never to return. This class was a cross between boot camp and high school detention. And hannah was the drill sargeant. One way to know it's not a good class...you leave yoga with MORE anxiety then when you arrive. I really wanted to like this place. I really did, but unfortunately, it just did not jive for me. Here's my experience: I had been looking at their site forever, I mean, no kidding - I was on their site EVERYDAY looking at their schedule and waiting for a time when my work schedule would allow me enough time to get there. So I was finally able to fit it in one night, with a couple girlfriends. (Side note: it was a Thursday at 7 pm, and...a while ago now, so I don't know if the instructor listed on the site is the same.) We got there 10 minutes in advance, signed our little paperwork, provided our IDs to the very nice receptionist and took a seat until class started. It being our first time, our class was free - cool. The receptionist did not direct us to our room, so we sat and chatted, like girlfriends do, and next thing we know the instructor's in front of us with a disconcerted look on her face. "We're about to start class," she says. "Oh!" we say. We walk in, find 3 places next to one another, grab our blocks and start the class. First of all, they need to better describe their classes online, bc the class we went to was WAYYYYY more difficult than we thought it would be. None of us were new to yoga - at all - so we were all shocked at how difficult it was. Secondly, I think that B*TCH instructor purposely made it harder on EVERYONE bc as I looked around the room, I noticed that even those who obviously frequent her class (obvious because the instructor would call them by name) were having a difficult time holding poses and keeping up. Thirdly, I'm always up for a physical challenge, and can handle myself pretty well in those situations, but I am not down for some snooty lanky little flexiwheel rolling her gosh-darn horrid eyes at me and my girls bc we aren't able to keep up with her. Save it for the guy who cut you off on the freeway lady, bc I'm not having it and I'm not about to give my money to a studio - however beautiful, spacious and clean - which employs snots like you. The 1 point is for the studio - which is particularly clean & quite beautiful. I don't care to try another class here, as I was so severely disappointed by the lack of kindly yoga-spirit I experienced. It's too bad but I feel that I can't put much stock in the possibility that there may be other amazing instructors at the studio bc of how she represented them. Way to take 3 away from your team lady. Meanwhile, I've become VERY happy with the Bikram yoga studio in Silverlake. Humph. read more

After reading all the high reviews I decided to give this place a try since I'm working in Pasadena for a few months. While the teacher seemed ok, I found the energy just lacking and didn't feel good like I normally do after a good yoga workout. I had called ahead to see if there was anything I needed to do and mentioned I was from out of town. The person on the other hand was quite helpful and told me since it's my first time, the class would be free. Which was cool, though I really had no problem with paying so this was just a bonus. They had me fill out some paperwork when I arrived and told me to just go ahead. Well, after the class they pulled me aside and told me that I would need to pay since I was from out-of-town. Now, they had two opportunities to tell me this, first on the phone and second when I filled out the paperwork with my address. I was really put off by this experience as I found it very unprofessional and it ruined any positive aspect of the yoga class itself. read more

Unfortunate I don't go anymore because none of their classes align with my schedule and when I am able to go, it's early morning classes with CRAZY traffic headed West (To Pasadena) for me :( I actually had to cancel a membership I had because I was coming in so angry on the days I had off, so I could take a class, but the traffic would just throw my mood into a whole other dimension... It's a great studio with great teachers! The styles vary greatly so try to find out more about a class before you try it. Personal Recommendations: Bruce, Farzy, Jill, Kelly - Frankly all of them, but here's a quick guide to help you out! If you like holding poses but also want some vinyasa then: Bruce, Farzy, and Rebecca If you like those classes that will make you sweat (and I mean puddles), keep you moving, and are kept pretty warm (but not BIKRAM hot): Tracy ( this class is hardcore but people love it) and Sabina. Best Beginners Classes: Hannah and Kelly ( both also do upper level classes that are great, both are Ashtanga based teachers!) Gentles: Jill (she's the tiniest and the sweetest) & Bruce ( tougher gentle) Overall: Susan Priver's level ones are crazy packed but that's cause people love her - her upper level classes are tough but well liked! Iyengar: Paul is great, and so is Marta! Like I said, talk to the people and the front desk and get some info - it's not just about the studio but the instructor and they all vary in temperament, style, and approach! I have been taking yoga classes at Yoga House on and off for many years now. They always have great instructors and the classes are exactly the level they are suppose to be. The studio's facility is clean and warm. I like their boutique and the hot tea they provide to the students after or before a yoga session. More recently, I have been taking prenatal yoga here. Jill Zepezauer is a great prenatal yoga instructor. She displays a lot of knowledge regarding pregnancy and the ways in which to make us feel comfortable. The modified yoga poses using lots of support are very beneficial to pregnant moms. I always find that I am completely rejuvenated after the practice. Prenatal yoga along with my cardio workouts during the week have become a great regimen for me while I am slightly weaker and more fatigued than my normal self. Note that in my previous experience here with level 1-2 classes, the class can get crowded so arrive early and get a good spot. They have street parking right in front of the studio or you can park in their designated parking lot by printing a free parking pass from their website. I had the worst/strangest experience there today I paid $45.00 for a breath workshop, but due to my car battery dying, I was 15 minutes late for the 2 hour class. However, I was given permission to go in, as they were just getting started. I rented a mat, but saw there was one spot near the back that was already set up. The woman next to me said that she didn't think anyone was there, so I sat down. Some, 20 minutes in to our deep relaxation, the door opens and a lady gruffly says to me - "you have my mat-give me my mat!". she was really brusque and I was a little upset and confused as to why she just didn't get another one and quietly enter the session - turns out, she was the owner! so much for gentle kindness. I really needed that session, as I had just come from a memorial for my dad before my car battery died. I spoke to her afterwards to explain, and she never offered an apology or an ounce of compassion. That being said, the workshops are wonderful and the space open and lovely but DO NOT take the owners mat or you will rue the day read more

Namaste! I didn't have to look very far to find my yoga sanctuary. Yoga House sits on the west side of Fair Oaks. Entrance faces south, parking on front, back, plus many spots further behind the back lot. Hot tea served at reception. The personalities here are always so pleasant and calming. Spiritual sessions literally start at walk-in. Two open, clean, and spacious studios, both equipped with plenty of blocks, pillows, straps, and blankets. There are two wall-size open cubbies to store personal belongings and shoes. I've taken classes with Bruce, Kelley, and Jewel. Every instructor is excellent, nurturing, and down-to-detail about every single pose. There are classes throughout the day, every day of the week. More than twenty types of classes are offered at different levels and needs. Three free classes for first timers. read more

Really loved this place, however have lost respect for them over their groupon policy. Purchased a groupon, after having previously been a client there last year. Nothing on the groupon indicated that I could not buy another groupon to come there, in fact, in the Q&A sections of groupon, it said both new and returning customer could purchase and redeem the groupon. Ok, great. I get there, front desk girl redeems groupon, then tells me I cant use it because it was only for new customers...thats not what its stated on groupon's website. Long story short, I contact management, they repeat the same line. I was super disappointed and frustrated, seems like they need to get their act together and carefully read/ post proper information for groupon's website. read more

I've been an avid yoga devotee for over 10 years and am incredibly loyal and follow my teachers around town as they move around. I have had the benefit of having had wonderful teachers over my yoga career and recently discovered the yoga House and feel like I've found a second home. For me going to studios while I'm traveling or just wanting to try something new hasn't felt just right. The energy, ambience and excellent instruction at the yoga house totally hits the mark. I would take every class that Susan Priver teaches if I didn't actually have to work during the week. Only down side is that i got a parking ticket while parked on state street which flies in the face of the Namaste vibe. Have to figure out where I can park. I'm grateful to have such a beautiful and welcoming community at the yoga house. It makes going anywhere else just not as much fun. read more

This review is predominately referring to the prenatal yoga classes offered here at Yoga House. This has been such a blessing during my pregnancy to be able to continue practice while embracing my changing body with this growing baby. After every class, I feel more open physically, more relaxed, more connected with the pregnancy, and confident in my body's abilities (which I feel will completely help when it comes to birth day). The instructors are all top notch. Every class taken by these instructors have each been fulfilling and exactly what my pregnant body was hoping for. Farzaneh teaches the Monday midday class. Jill teaches the rest of the week's pre-/post-natal classes at the studio, which are Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5:30 (convenient for still-working moms like me!) and Wednesdays and Saturdays midday. I've also had subs for the usual instructors who was excellent as well, Mary Frances and Hannah. I appreciate the individuality of each instructor, and the flavor each brings to the classes. Each is always fantastic! The studio itself is such a comfortable place to practice with bright, open, airy rooms in which to practice, with all the props we appreciate with these growing babies. Parking is particularly nice now with the new set-up. There are a few different places to park, and all you need is a parking pass you can get from the studio or print online. Very convenient! Pricing for yoga itself is always an investment, but especially at this time in my life, I feel like it's definitely a worthy investment. Your first three classes are free, and right now they have a special deal for those taking advantage of those three classes, that once those are complete, you can purchase an unlimited month or 5 classes for $40. Definitely appreciate that! If you're pregnant and focused on being healthy, I'd highly recommend incorporating these classes into your pregnancy. I truly feel more prepared and confident moving along the weeks preparing for the big day. It's also nice to be around women in the same position as you at this stage in life! I purchased a $39 Groupon for one month of unlimited classes. Great deal! So far, I've gone to 5 classes.. and overall I really like it here. Very traditional looking yoga studio with very experienced instructors (Susan is my favorite!). Bonus post-practice tea in the waiting room too! The only problem I had-- which is why I docked off one star-- is that the popular classes get EXTREMELY crowded. I really think they should put a cap on the class after certain number of people or time has passed because: 1) I find it a bit annoying when its overcrowded because certain poses on your back require you to stretch your arms out horizontally so its a little troublesome when you have to alter your poses. 2) People come in a bit late during the beginning meditation and people have to shuffle around so they can fit into the class Another thing I may add (but I won't single out the instructor), is that one class I attended, the instructor decided to change what was a beginning 1 class of mostly vinyasa to restorative. Not only that, the class was cut short from 1hr 30 min, to 1 hr. read more

This is a serious yoga studio for devoted students. Several teachers stand out as among the best yoga instructors I've ever had. The best teachers (Hanna House Gilan, Sabina Weber) have taught yoga for decades and know how to cue the students into the asana precisely. Their classes are, as expected, very crowded and large. The class sizes are generally quite large (more than 25 students) inside the two large yoga studios. The front desk staff, especially the manager Jamie, is helpful, responsive, and friendly. read more

When you first walk in, it looks a bit like a yoga store. If it's your first time, it's free and the receptionist will have you fill out a form, so arrive early! In the second room, there's a case for you to put your shoes and belongings. Of course, yoga-goers won't steal your things...even though this case is outside of your class. Once the class starts and the doors are closed, you won't be able to see your belongings anymore as you enter a state of peace and relaxation. If you find that you need your things closer to you to relieve anxiety, then you can bring it in the classroom. Definitely not like a cramped yoga class that comes with your gym membership to a club like LA Fitness, 24, Golds Gym, etc. The instructors pay attention to your pose and the classes are generally smaller. Most of the focus for beginner classes is in the breathing technique. Intermediate classes you are used to at the gym will seem like advanced classes here. You don't have to bring anything, they have blocks, belts, blankets, etc. that you can borrow. Generally a good idea to bring your own mat. I believe they take a security deposit for the mat if you borrow it. After class they have free tea for you of you want to help yourself to it. LOVE Yoga House! They have a variety of classes and at anytime of he day! They also have an app you can where you can easily see the schedule for the day and reserve your spot! I usually like a fast pace class and am trying to advance my practice so I usually take the level 1-2 and Power yoga classes but have taken almost every class! All the instructors have their unique approach to teaching and I love that you can learn something new in every class. You really need to try a few classes to see which would be a good fit for you. They have hot tea available for students the studio and have the prettiest flower arrangement every week. Everyone at the desk is really nice and friendly. Parking can be a challenge but it's easy to find parking on Colombia or Grace and it's a nice easy stroll to the studio. read more

I've only mostly taken Bikram yoga before coming to Yoga House for solely prenatal yoga so my experience is pretty singular. Prenatal yoga is very relaxing and not what I'm used to but I still like it. I'm not sure if its solely due to yoga, but my backaches have been minimal. I used to have slight back pain, still do, but my back has been much happier since I started coming. Hopefully my back will continue to feel good. I can't say it helps with my other symptoms because after my 5th month, my severe morning sickness stopped and I've been having a good pregnancy with almost no symptoms. Okay, I had some heartburn but don't get heartburn anymore. Maybe yoga? I dunno. I mostly park on Fair Oaks on the weekdays. On the weekend, I had to park in the back lot. read more

I love it when yoga studios have specials for newcomers and this place has a great one: three free classes for free (valid for 10 days). My friend and I signed up for that special and I managed to come here three times within 8 days! If you fall in love with them, then you can sign up for 1 month unlimited for $40 (for new students only), which is cool. There are various options for saving money (buying a bigger series of classes, buying unlimited class memberships, etc) and they also offer discounts for students and seniors. There are several parking options available. They have a tiny lot right behind their studio which fits maybe 4 cars, or there is a slightly larger parking lot on the other side of the alley. If those two are full, you can drive down the alley to yet another parking lot, or you can try your luck with street parking. On one of the days I managed to snag a parking spot right in front of the studio! They have open cubbies for everyone to put their stuff in before class (bags, shoes, phones), although I made sure to leave everything in the car and just keep my keys with me after seeing ants crawl all over it after my first class there O.O There is also a tiny bathroom in the back for students to use. I do not have a lot of experience with yoga, so I was a bit taken aback to find out that the classes here use props (is that what they are called?). We had blocks, balls, blankets, and more to use along with our yoga mats. It was interesting and turned out to be quite helpful. The three classes I tried were: Beginning I, Yoga Tune Up, and Level 1-2. For me personally, Level 1-2 was too hard (but it was the only one that I could make in the 10 day time frame). I would recommend this for non-beginner yoga students. Beginning I was just okay; it moved a bit too slowly for me. My favourite of the three was Yoga Tune Up. I liked the instructor for that class (Sarah Court) and it was more my speed/style. There are a variety of classes here offered with a number of different instructors, so I recommend checking them out and taking advantage of their newcomer special. You know this place is good when an uncoordinated klutz like me with difficulty following directions is actually doing the SAME thing the rest of the students are. Sure, there were a few moments when I was facing the entire class instead of facing the wall, or looking like the mirror image of the rest of the students ... but overall - Success! As a complete newbie to yoga in general ( Down dog? Triangle? Huh?) the instructor was great - patient, clear instructions, easy to understand. The space is really cool - it's an old brick building with spacious studios with relaxing, good lighting as well as lots of equipment - mats, bolsters, blankets, straps, bricks. You don't actually need to own any yoga gear. There's complimentary tea and fruit so you can relax afterwards too. I'm coming back - any public workout where they help me avoid looking like an a$$ is the place for me. read more

My Boston Celtics lost last night. To the LA Clippers. Needless to say, I was in much distress for most of the day today. I needed to de-stress and find something to really focus on to get my mind off that horrid loss by my green and white men. I decided to try out Yoga House because those free-hour long classes at the gym are a no-no. I needed some intense yoga. Since they offer the first class free (if you reside anywhere in the Los Angeles County), I stopped by Yoga House tonight. Upon entering the "house", you feel immediately at ease. It is quiet and oh-so zen.I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist who gave me clear instructions as he knew it was my first time at the Yoga House. They provide cubbies where you can place your personal items and any and all yoga equipment you may need (mats, blankets, bricks, pillows). The class tonight was for beginners and wasn't all too crowded which allowed the instructor to pay more attention to each person. The yoga gods decided to smile on me tonight and really alleviate much of my stress by sending a hot-to-trot yoga instructor. I had MUCH to focus on than just the different poses and all the stretching and bending I had to do.. You see, in order to be a good yoga student, I really had to pay very close attention and focus hard on all the poses and stretching and bending by the instructor. Helllllloooooooooo nurseeeeeeee! At one point, we had to prop up our feet up against the wall and balance ourselves on our hands. It was much too hard a pose for me and I collapsed, only to glance up RIGHT when the instructor's shirt slid down and revealed his back which displayed a tattoo of his spine.. Down his spine! Boston Celtics who?! Thank you hot-to-trot yoga instructor for allowing me to think about "something" other than the loss to the Clippers. KG, I still heart you. read more

I really like this place! There have been some really great reviews, so I'll just summarize: - Pretty, spacious, and clean studio. - Friendly front desk staff - Small parking lot adjacent to the building or park in the residential area nearby - Soothing and flavorful hot tea offered - Community discounts and student discounts - Website is easy to navigate to find schedule, info, etc. - Students are either friendly or focused and to themselves, but you won't experience competitive or clique-y people Hannah is awesome. She brings a really energetic and playful vibe to her instruction. She would be great for beginners. I came out of her class smiling. Cybelle (Thursday 7:15 only) is like no other instructor I've ever had. She makes you dig deep into your practice. Her instructions are firm, but calming. I was in a few poses, and she came behind me to open me up more. My body surprised me, which is something I don't experience too much with yoga. I really enjoyed her class! I moved to Boston so I'm not close to Yoga House anymore and I am sad. I haven't found a place in beantown that offers as many yoga classes as Yoga House, that would make a monthly membership worth it. I would buy a monthly membership for around $100 (with my student discount) and go up to twice a day. So wonderful. I really like Carolyn's classes in the morning, a great way to wake up! And Jill's classes are gentle and sweet. Because I'm an Iyengar student, I especially appreciate Paul's diligence with form and I really miss Robyn's restorative classes, though she still teaches Iyengar on Sunday mornings. The classes sometime shift, but after five plus years, the classes are generally the same and at the same time. I like dropping by when I'm in town visiting my family. Its also where I first got my yogi on, and brought me to meditation (check out the LA Shambhala Center for more information). Thanks Yoga House! This is my favorite yoga studio in the Pasadena area. After several years of doing yoga in Santa Monica & the Westside then several years of no yoga after moving to the area finding Yoga House was a dream. I love the decor, vibe, tea, cubbies, etc. Since I often go in the morning or during lunch I have not experienced large crowds and generally have liked each instructor. I do wish they had some sort of locker for my keys but I now take them into class. All in all the best yoga I have found in Pasadena and I motivated for this to become my home studio!!! read more

I recently moved to Pasadena and read great reviews about Yoga House on Yelp. My favorite instructors are Jill, Susan and Bruce. This yoga studio deserves 5+stars here is why 1. Yoga House is hands-down the best yoga studio in the area. They offer a variety of classes and teachers, so there is something for everyone. I have been going there for three years and love it. A few highlights: -Bruce Schwartz is an amazing master-level teacher. Each class is more like a mini-workshop and he is comparable to, if not better than, many of the yoga teachers featured on the cover of Yoga Journal, whose classes I have also taken. You will gain as much insight from his Saturday 9 a.m. class as you would at an entire weekend yoga workshop. -Tracy Krosnoff teaches an incredibly challenging level 2-3 class on Sundays. If you are looking for an ultimate strength-building yoga class, this is it. -Wendy Obstler is so inspiring, and takes the time to learn and remember the name of each and every yoga student who enters her class. I have no idea how she does this. -Beautiful lobby always featuring a giant bouquet of fresh flowers and complimentary Yogi tea. -Yoga clothing and props carefully chosen and priced fairly - comparable to ordering online. Whenever I finish a class there, I like to linger in the lobby sipping my tea and chatting with others from the class I just took (if in the mood), browsing the merchandise, or just sitting in peace in this beautiful environment. read more

I went to my first class here tonight. The studio itself is gorgeous, and there are so many beautiful things to buy if you feel so inclined. The ladies at the front desk have perfect yoga studio attitudes -- helpful and relaxed. I took the Level 2/3 class. It was completely challenging and wonderful. Ella is an amazing teacher with a great sense of humor -- she definitely pushes you, but I've not felt this zen in quite some time. Five-star rating after wiggling around, attending different classes and creating a perfect weekly schedule composed of the best instructors - in my honest opinion. I started practicing more intently after starting grad school. With all the different tumultuous tasks, classes, commitments, organizations, and work in the office, I find solace by giving myself permission to have an hour and a half to myself (and you should too!). (1) Sabina Weber is amazing. I leave her class every time with my body in a 24-hour state of gratitude, mindfulness, and bliss. She is beautiful, inside and out - she challenges you to find comfort in the discomfort (and it's there). Her insight on life on the mat often translates as just as relevant off the mat. I'm a little nervous raving about her because her class is popular and crowded enough as it is, but when something is great, you just want to share it with everyone. (2) Farzaneh has an amazing and soothing voice that guides you through every transition. Her sessions give you a good, calm sweat - she is incredibly experienced, attentive to detail, kind, and tailors every individual classes to the atmosphere - more beginners v. more level 1-2 yogis. - note, also very crowded. (3) Rheza is calm, patient, challenging (in her Level 1-2, 2-3 classes), and incredibly knowledgeable of your body's natural tendencies and where focus should be centered on to correct postures. I absolutely love Yoga House! They have great teachers who help you get better by correcting your form and giving great tips as you get into poses. I have become a more skilled yogi by coming here! It is a little pricey, but if you are committed to yoga as your form of exercise, it is worth it. Some teachers even put essential oils on you when you are in shavasana which is absolutely divine! And tea in the lobby! Who doesn't love that! read more

I have been coming here for years. It's non-pretentious, the people who come are just regular joes like you and me, and the atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful. John Sovec is my favorite instructor. I ALWAYS learn something new in his class, he makes us laugh and he teaches us how to get to the poses in the simplest and most intuitive way. It's really non-intimidating, the way yoga should be practiced. The other thing I like about Yoga House is that the instructors don't get all kooky and spiritual, even though yoga is a spiritual practice. I have tried many yoga classes elsewhere and this is by far my favorite place. If you are new to yoga practice, I would suggest taking classes in this order: gentle yoga, beginning one, level 1, level 1-2, core power flow. Since I have bought unlimited monthly passes, I have tried almost all of the classes. All the teachers are great and teaching style varies. It has nice space, two big halls at each side of the main entrance. There are quite a few classes, and the instructors are very nice. It is a place I come to when I am in town. Parking is a bit painful since the immediate neighborhood is a permit only place, so you will have to park down Fair Oaks along the bridge. Really good atmosphere, you feel relaxed just even walking into the lobby. Front desk is very nice, very attentive. A great studio for those who are all about the practice of yoga without gimmicky sales pressure. Tracy Krosnoff and John Sovec are my favorite instructors. They are great at teaching classes and helping modify to each person's individual needs/level to make everyone feel comfortable and challenged. They also have a really good spirit about them that makes me leave feeling refreshed and positive each time I practice. read more

I've been coming here on and off for about 5 years. This studio is simply one of the best I've been to throughout California. I think it boils down to 2 facts: 1) all their teachers are incredibly well-trained and inspiring. 'Nuff said. 2) the ambiance/atmosphere is perfect. They have 3 studio rooms of varying sizes, all with hard wood floors, and nice simple kinda traditional/yoga-y decor throughout. They brew tea for when class gets out, a perfect companion to the revitalization of the yoga. Although I don't mind those more fitness-oriented studios, my heart still lies with places like yoga house-- somewhere you go with mindful purpose to seek mind & body expansion and rejuvenation. read more

So I'm finally ready to review this place. I've only had experience with three of the instructors Rebecca Miller, Ella Cojocaru, and Sabina Weber. I am not an incredibly well versed yogi, and I am not extremely well practiced, but I do know good teachers. My history from which I am able to understand practice... I began my trek in yoga about 6 months ago with my girlfriend at Santa Monica Power Yoga, meeting a variety of instructors there and recognizing a passion for being in the moment and trying to progress inside and outside of myself. The elevation of this is my feeling bonded to a few teachers there, especially Rudy Mettia. Though I've found this spot, I cannot always get to Santa Monica from home in Pasadena and back again before being completely exhausted. I will not stop going here, but the exhaustion led me to look outside of my box, my comfort zone. And so I found Yoga House(YH). I often take late evening classes, so I continued this in my experimentation period at YH and was quite pleased. I won't spend time giving biased opinions of the friendliness of these instructors at YH. At least the ones I have experienced more (Ella and Sabina) are so fundamentally dedicated to their styles that their followers hate to move away and make their life changes. Ella is a physical genius, but I guess one gets that from Olympic type? training and is incredibly capable of correcting stances, postures, breathing, etc in the most sympathetic but efficient manner. Sabina on the other hand is the nurturing type with a touch of sensitivity which lets you build your practice fantastically. I had never been soothed in yoga as I had been with Sabina (who identified to me she had also been to many of the teachers at SMPY, so I knew I had met the right teacher). Sabina's touch is effortlessly healing and wonderful. The setup is quite nice with two large studio spaces, not as large as SMPY but enough to fit 22 or more people in a room with adequate space. Teachers are reasonable about space, the amenities are great... Fresh tea, purified water, straps, blocks, and rugs are all available to use. Purchasing books seems easy as well as purchasing DVDs and your series. Make sure you let them know you are local for discounts on original packages. The people are very functional at the desk. I will continue to make this a part of my regular schedule. read more

After exploring a number of local yoga studios, I've decided that Yoga House is my second favorite yoga studio. If you want a studio that represents a variety of yoga styles, taught by knowledgeable instructors, this is a great place. I love the fact that they offer plenty of less-strenuous options, such as Gentle, Yin, and Restorative Yoga. Their Iyengar classes are also wonderful. I particularly appreciate the rope wall, which allows students to move into asanas using a different mode of support than traditional props. The studio is spacious, well-lit, and well-appointed. A free cup of hot tea is always available after class, which is a nice touch. They also have a nice selection of yoga-related products for purchase. Street parking is plentiful. read more

I have been coming here for about a month and I love it. I have struggled to stick with yoga - I get bored with meditation/spiritual-type classes, and classes with hip hop music can be fun but don't leave me feeling relaxed/renewed. I think I've finally found the perfect fit at Yoga House. Sabina's class is a great workout, energizing yet calming. I always leave feeling blissful (seriously). She plays a good mix of music and has great energy, encouraging without being cheesy or in-your-face. She seems to be more hands-off, although she has corrected my pose gently a couple times. The Saturday class I attend has a mix of newer and more experienced students, so I felt comfortable immediately, even though my practice is very rusty. Staff and other students have been friendly, without any hint of the pretentiousness I've experienced at other yoga places. Highly recommend. (Bonus: the first class is free.) read more

A beautiful, spacious yoga house located in South Pasadena. I decided to try this place instead of the usual bikram place based on the raving Yelp reviews. The Yelpers didn't disappoint as I was welcomed to a zen like oasis. Since I was a first time visitor, the first class was free (for LA residents only). Well, I'm not technically an LA resident but the friendly staff mentioned that as long as I could provide an LA residence on my sign up sheet then they could honor the same offer to me. (Thanks for my lovely dining companion for having an LA residence for me to use). Otherwise all drop in classes are $16 each. The Level 1 class was 90 minutes long and it felt like an extended stretching class than my usual cardio workout from bikram. The instructor was very knowledgeable and motivational. I think next time I will try a more challenging class but be prepared for a dedicated classroom of yogis. After class, enjoy a complimentary cup of hot yoga tea and grab an organic apple on the way out :) read more
