My yoga practice this morning consisted of....Sun shining on my face, my hair blowing in the wind, palm trees swaying above and the calming sound of the ocean waves beating against the shore....while holding my balance on sand. I loved it! Yoga on the beach is taught at the Southernmost on the Beach Hotel - Thur and Sat 9-10 am (check their website). Yoga mats and blocks are provided. Drop in class was $18 and well worth it. The teacher gears the class towards the average student of all levels. I'm excited to try aqua yoga tomorrow! Went to the fort and stopped by the beach. Very nice views and clear water even with during the seaweed season. There's also a hut, which sells food. Just overall worth a visit. read more

Yoga on the Beach was one of my favorite things that I did while visiting Key West! The class is taught on the beach at a state park. I can't imagine a more serene place for a yoga class; the trees sway gently overhead, the ocean is right in front of you, and the ubiquitous Key West roosters meander around throughout your practice. It is an excellent yoga class, perfect for all different levels.The couple who ran it was wonderful. They even stuck around after class to give us suggestions of things to do in Key West. I also appreciated their flexibility and understanding about our group arriving late to the class. read more

Had an amazing time at Yoga on the Beach! This was my first time to the class and Don was so kind and welcoming! I felt right at home. Everything you need is supplied. All you have to do is enjoy the class and the gorgeous setting! He gives easy to follow instructions and takes the time to help each individual with their practice. Its funny even though I live 10 miles away from beaches that people come from all over the world to visit, I have to say that Yoga on the Beach in Key West was one of those once in a lifetime things. Fort Zachary State Beach is gorgeous, true it's like the only beach in Key West, it is picture perfect Caribbean none the less. The set up with the canvas yoga floor on the sand with sun peaking through the pines above is so relaxing. If a yoga class had a perfect formula this whole set up would be one of the best ones. The class itself is good for all levels, the instructors have great yoga vibes and everyone is so friendly. I am very experienced, but got a great stretch. This experience made my day and my trip for sure. I hope to do it again someday. read more

Now that we are back I have already taken two classes at Ft. Zachary State Park. My friend and I had the pleasure of doing Yoga on The Beach at Ft. Zachary Taylor a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful, peaceful and very inviting setting and they had everything you need there including mats, blocks and blankets. It was a great environment and I can't wait to get back there someday for another class. We did some very energetic yoga with Don and it was really fun. Don is very enthusiastic and it put a smile on our faces the rest of the day. So glad we took the time to have this great experience during our short vacation in Key West. This yoga on the beach session was fantastic - the flow was superb, the view was beautiful, and the instructors were very friendly and accommodating after my friends and I got lost and showed up late. There was a pretty large group - about a dozen not including the people I came with - as well as the resident yogi rooster. I am not a regular yoga practitioner. This class was a great opportunity for me to loosen up and relax without feeling clueless. There were also people there that looked like regulars. Good class for all skill levels. When we GPSed the address listed, it brought us to what looked like a gated community - I believe the entrance said "Fort Taylor Court" - so we turned around and ended up entering from a different direction. We found out on our way out that we would have been able to pass through the neighborhood that appeared to be gated and would have made it to our destination - if you encounter this on your drive, go through the court, follow signs for Fort Taylor if available, continue driving until you come to a park ranger toll booth, and then drive to the very end of the parking lot. At the end of the lot the yoga will be on your left in an exposed grove. The class cost covers towels and mats, which provided a very comfortable platform - no need to bring your own. These yoga classes are exceptional. The teachers are very patient and kind, they walk you through the whole thing! This yoga class is also good for those studying the practices of yoga. I was looking for a spiritual connection more than a workout, and I ended up getting both!! The teachers are phenomenal and their knowledge is immense. And the setting is great! Absolutely the highlight of our trip to Key West. The instructors are top notch and the atmosphere is amazing with the ocean and views of the pines. The instructor on several days did a really good full challenging class with modifications for different abilities. The lavender scented eye relaxation patches were the cherry on the top of a delightful class. read more

I've taken Yoga on the Beach a couple times and after the holidays I plan to return to a consistent schedule. First, Nancy, the Instructor was kind, supportive and informative for my lack of inexperience. I grew more confident as she explained the poses and how to get more out of my body in kind gentle movements. Second, the setting is beautiful to look at but you also get to feel the ocean's breeze, creating a calmness inside you. Lying on blankets and mats with the comfortable sand under you creates a stillness that I hadn't felt in a long time. Third, they provide blankets, yoga mats, blocks, and straps. Absolutely the best yoga! The atmosphere of pines protecting the class from the heat of the sun is a perfect place for yoga. Instructors are top notch. She targets all the issues that bother travelers, sore necks, backs and hips from too much airplane travel, stiff beds etc. It was one of the highlights of my week.
