There's always a little trepidation with checking out a new studio but really, I had nothing to worry about since everyone at Yogafly was so welcoming even before the class started. I also really liked how reservations are not required for regularly scheduled classes which makes it convenient for people just wanting to check out Yogafly and out-of-towners such as myself. Just show up a little early to pay and sign a waiver. Classes are $15 each but there are various packages available. The studio space is one big rectangle, with props and a desk at the front, and a bathroom and a piano at the back. The ceiling was painted a soothing shade of turquoise. The only slight detraction were sounds from the Mexican restaurant next door. Found the Hatha 1 class with Katharine relaxing and satisfying, felt super stretched out after. I started at Yogafly during my time as an Auburn student but I've moved away and traveled all around since then, but this studio is still hands down my favorite! The space itself is amazing, but the real gift is Peach. Her teaching is excellent, and she has truly created a yoga community in the city of Auburn. She's knowledgable, approachable, and very intelligent in how she can simplify some intimidating things and make them available to students of all levels. On top of that, she leads a wonderful teacher training and knows how to hire responsible and knowledgable teachers. Peach's background and training are impressive and it shows in every class she teaches. Whether you're a long time practitioner or a first timer, this is a teacher you will absolutely learn from. I recently posted a similar review on Google, and am adding one here with the hope that it will provide the reader with some insight about this remarkable yoga studio and the people you will meet there... About a year ago I walked into Yogafly for the first time. I chose to begin my yoga journey with an individual session with the owner, Peach Friedman, and that was one of the best decisions I've ever made! She is a remarkable teacher! I'd attended a few health club yoga classes some years before and had dabbled with a few DVD's, but I told Peach that wanted to start on day one with a beginner's mind and just assume I knew nothing (which turned out to be basically true). I was excited by the idea but also a little anxious that yoga might be a bit much for my 60-something year old body, even though I've tried to stay reasonably fit all my life. Peach's observant eye took in my posture and breathing and we began with my learning to stand and breathe and do a few other basic actions such as properly aligning my arm bones into my shoulders when bearing weight on my hands. Within a short time I was experiencing ordinary activities such as standing in line at a store or bending over to pick up something as opportunites to practice my new skills. An overdoer's shoulder ache I'd had for a while faded away. Within a month I found that I could sit up straight on a cushion without back support for extended intervals. I'd never been able to do that for long without leaning back on something, else my back would begin to ache and I'd start fidgeting. And I learned how to do a comfortable back bend, a movement I'd just assumed might not available to my body. I used to love to look at the stars as a youngster, but had long ago fallen out of the habit of gazing up at the night sky because it soon made my neck feel pinched. Through yoga practice I soon learned I'd never learned how to bend backward safely. The first time I realized I could stand and hold my gaze upward with a smooth curve in my back and no pinched neck or low back was a revelation! I almost teared up with joy! So yoga is for stargazers too. I could go on, but will close this review with a few thoughts. Yoga is about so much more than just learning physical poses and movements! Peach, along with her wonderful group of assistant teachers, including Nicole and Megan and others, have created a community that is welcoming and inclusive. Just as I've learned to check my shoes at the door, so I'm practicing checking my "ego" there too. Inside the studio, we're all there to experience what yoga has to offer. If you choose to practice yoga at Yogafly, you will be welcomed and noticed as an individual, and at the same time you will always be encouraged to trust your own body and mind to guide you as to what you are comfortable trying. The classes range from beginning to advanced, and you will find the options range from a vigorous vinyasa flow to a calming and grounding "yin" yoga experience. You can find a peaceful and quiet space if that's what you need on a given day, though a friendly smile and conversation is always close at hand too. So where has this pathway led? My decision to begin with few 1:1 sessions with Peach or her associate Nicole proved to be a very helpful investment toward building a basic foundation and avoiding "bad habits" before joining in on group classes, although these too are a great place to start. Your choice! Then this year I decided to "take the plunge" into a more intensive learning experience that has taken my practice to a whole new level I would have never guessed possible. Practicing at Yogafly has literally changed my life for the better! All of the teachers are highly trained and offer very clear verbal instruction during classes. The schedule is very inclusive and offers classes for every body type and all ages (even kids)- there is literally something for everyone. Classes start on promptly on time and are scheduled from morning until evening. Peach Friedman, the owner, is passionate about teaching proper alignment to insure an injury free practice. Yogafly is a sweet little studio with a great price. The space was clean, simple, and spacious. I took a Vinyasa class with Laura. The flow was simple enough (an all-levels average class- warriors 1,2,3 and a minute or two for handstand) that I was able to add my own challenge where appropriate. The class was not too crowded, and the vibe was nice and casual. I did encounter a few things that I felt some feedback might be helpful, but that's cuz I'm a real stickler. E.g. We chanted AUM in a higher register so there was no vocal resonance (missing the point of it as the eternal vibration). Savasana was about 50 seconds long (again, it doesn't really fulfill its purpose that way). There was nice music as students entered, but then none during the class (that's a personal preference) Overall, I was surprised to find this little gem. I came to Yogafly wanting to lose weight and get a super sexy yoga bod so I'd be considered more valuable & worth knowing (as I perceived it) in our culture and society. I left as a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher wanting to share the freedom and joy I had found having developed a new relationship with my body & the world. You don't have to do a teacher training to get the life-altering benefits (but it wouldn't hurt!) from Yogafly & Peach Friedman. Peach's deep understanding of anatomy & alignment not only make her classes a very safe and adaptive place, but one that connects you to your specific form in a way that allows you to soak up all that a pose can offer. I was able to do immense healing under the guidance of Peach - both physically and emotionally- and it has absolutely changed my life. The studio itself & the people who teach and attend became a safe haven for me, and a place I could repeatedly turn to whether I was having the worst day, or the best. Sadly I'm unable to roll my mat out there as I'm now living in New York, but I look forward to my returns & would recommend to any and all interested in starting or continuing their practice to check out Yogafly, Peach & the team of incredible teachers she has to offer. read more

Yogafly is a fantastic yoga studio. I have been a yoga practitioner for a long time and practiced at studios in different states, with many different instructors, and I have a home practice. Yogafly is the first studio that I have called my "yoga home," and Peach Friedman is not just any yoga instructor guiding me through a practice, she is my teacher. I have been a student at Yogafly since its grand opening in 2012 and I have worked with Peach since long before that. The Yogafly studios in both Auburn and Opelika are wonderful spaces to practice, but the heart of the studios is the teachers. Yoga means many things to different people which is great, but for me it is much more than just a workout. Don't get me wrong, you get a great workout in a vinyasa or hatha-style class, but Peach's focus (and the focus of the other instructors that she trains and employs in her studios) is making sure that you move through poses using your muscles, joints, bones, and breath in ways that maximize the benefits you get from each pose from the most simple to the most complex. She also teaches in such a way that if you listen to her, even if you cannot achieve a complicated pose, you will get so much out of the steps to that pose that you don't even notice that you aren't in the full version. Maybe eventually you achieve the full version! With Peach's guidance, I have had breakthroughs into poses that were never attainable for me (like any inversion) and I have discovered "bad habits" that I have had for years for what I thought were simple poses (warrior 2 for example!). Classes at Yogafly also incorporate some accessible yogic philosophy and tradition, pranayama, and occasionally even some chanting! There are many great workshops and guest teachers in addition to the already great classes and great teachers. It's a full, and in my definition, "real" yoga experience at Yogafly, which sets it apart from studios or classes that may be more streamed toward getting the workout. read more
