The vibe is definitely different... more intimate and you find yourself more easily able to leave the world behind and maintain your focus without the craziness of Ocean behind you and the beach in front of you like at the Bluff. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Well-maintained donation-based studio with friendly staff. I recently started coming here to take my friend Erin Grissom's Ground & Restore yoga classes (Tuesdays 4:30). I hadn't taken a yoga class in years but with age taking its toll, a gentle sustained stretch and relaxation class like the Ground & Restore seemed just the ticket. They have a wide variety of classes, though, for every level and interest--check out their website for details. You sign in at the front desk and pay your instructor directly (Venmo or cash). They are a donation-based studio, which makes their classes very affordable. The facility has been around for a while--maybe since the 1970s?--but is clean and well-maintained. You put your shoes in a cubby by the main studio before entering. The main studio is roomy and serene, with a large window on one side, which looks out on to the courtyard. There are cupboards in the back with blocks, blankets, and straps, and a small room off to the side with more cubbies for your other stuff, like bags, jackets, etc. I've been really enjoying my classes at this studio, and go every chance I get. BTW, this is the studio behind the famous yoga on the bluffs in Bluff Park overlooking the beach, if outdoor yoga is more your thing. read more

The new Yogalution studio opened on redondo between broadway and vista. There's a private lot for parking (see right side for designated spaces). Dharma is the one who started yoga on the bluff. There is a wellness center here with massage therapists, alternate healings and wellness. There's Kirtan every last Friday of the month and lots of yoga events such as sound baths, yoga dance, studies of yoga scriptures, all night gong events, ecstatic dance. Dharma also hosts retreats in Hawaii and will go to India in January 2023. I've only checked out a few instructors so far as I'm a mama of 3 but can't wait to check out more. This is donation based yoga (pretty cool concept); a minimum of $7 (suggested donation is $15-20 per class). I posted the current schedule there's 42+ classes a week. Most days there are classes from 7am to 745pm at night (7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 4:30pm, 6pm, 7:45pm). The weekends have less to have time for workshops and teacher trainings. I started going to yoga on the bluff a couple years ago. It is such a beautiful community, and not having done yoga before, it felt very low pressure. You are outside on a beautiful bluff, being taught by wonderful teachers, and it is donation based... truly accessible for everyone. After going for a couple years, I signed up for the yoga teacher training. It was such a transformative experience. Not only did I learn how to teach yoga, but I learned so much about myself in the process. Not to mention the amazing people I connected with along the way. 100% worth the investment of time and money. I'm here for 7:30 for 15-20 guided meditation and this will be my 3rd time attending with the Phoenix org. I like to the point I come back. I really love the environment! It's nice high ceilings and it's open! Free mats to lay on. After meditation, we chat for a bit and express our feelings or thoughts about anything we want. Parking is on the st. Bathroom is clean. Always a diff staff or volunteer guiding the mini class. Sometimes it's just 2-3 ppl, sometimes it's a full packed room. read more

I came across yogalution after researching a sum of teacher training courses. I decided after awhile that i'd join yogalution 200hr YTT and I cant be pleased more with the outcome. Not only have I acquired knowledge to become a yoga practitioner but I've joined a community of beautiful people. Ive met so many new individuals and experienced plenty of precious moments while in this course. The course itself is planned out neatly and clearly explained several times throughout the 3 months. It was hard work but created to give you stress free learning. They were also very understanding about payments or any outside world problems. Dharma and Marlene are outstanding teachers and any foul or disrespectful comments are simply from a cruel place itself. I've been doing yoga with Yogalution movement on the bluff for years. They helped me through the tough times of 2020. This organization holds a safe space for anyone at any age, beginner or non-beginner. Many great hearted and talented practitioners are involved in this community and show up with the sole purpose to help you love yourself and become enlightened. I have now completed the 200 hr program with Yogalution and have learned so much about the importance of Union. The studio is very nicely furnished with provided shelves for your belongings, clean bathrooms, and purified water dispenser. The floors in the practice room are made of a padding that provide some support for people with sensitive knees. ahhh Yogalution- An accessible, affordable, and incredibly safe space yoga studio that builds commUNITY. They've modernized yoga in a way that is identifiable for present day practice all the while honoring its south asian roots. Their free 'yoga on the bluff' classes was the perfect segway for me to explore their yoga teacher training program. I can't say I wasn't hesitant at first but my ego was checked quick. I was thrilled to learn that this was course was indeed lead by women of color and filled with a diverse group of students! More importantly, race aside... the deeper I dove into this course the clearer it became that Dharma and Marlene were simiply BORN to do this. This is their soul's purpose, their life mission, they were put on this earth especially for this! The passion they have to share this knowledge is inspirational and I'm so grateful that I didn't let my personal predjudices get in the way of the opportunity to experience their genuine teachings. For TEN YEARS I held off on pursuing YTT and I'm so glad I waited because this program was truly everything I was looking for. At first I really just wanted someone to tell me if I was doing the poses right, but I also wanted to learn more about yoga's roots and how to honor the culture that it came from. I just want to emphasize what an amazing job they did of that. They weren't preachy, they didn't force any beliefs on anyone, they simply provided the perspective and left it to our personal interpretation. Lovely experience receiving acupuncture and sound bath bealing. Parking, there was none only down side. I had to walk a few blocks in the cold/dark howeber wasnt a big deal. I do recommend you arriving about 20 mins before class to park, check in (make your donation) and get settled in class. The group was friendly and calm . I guess there was 16 to 20 people participating. Its every 4th Friday by donation. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next class. read more

I finally made it in (the studio is open for in class session now) and I am so glad that I did. I went on the website first to see the class schedule. Going to Yoga on the bluffs was one of my first introductions to Yoga as a broke college student. Bluff yoga makes yoga accessible thousands of people in our community that might not otherwise have the chance to experience a yoga class. Yoga on the bluffs is what inspired me to become certified as a Yoga Instructor through Yogalution. If you are thinking about doing the teacher training at this studio... go for it! It was one of the most deeply transformative experiences that has already helped me immensely on my journey. The course honors the lineage and philosophy of yoga it also helps encourage your own healing and personal development. It is so much more than just learning how to teach the poses. The teachers of Dhrama and Marlene experienced, accommodating, and make every class an impactful experience for everyone. If I could give 0 reviews I would ,I was scammed out of paying $3,000 to attend the Yoga Teacher Training , the facility was never cleaned ,me and other classmates were sick from COVID majority of the time nonetheless I made it through the program and on graduation day we did not receive any certificate which you need in order to become official on Yoga Alliance and when I asked for mine she called the police on me and had them surround me , she won't accept any phone calls nor text messages I advice you to pick another school ! read more

On the last day of 2016, I was disappointed with myself for not completing the Yelp 100 Challenge. I didn't get anywhere close to completion. But I wasn't going to let that keep me down. I was determined to make the last day of the year a great one! My soul sister, Mindi, had been telling me of Yogalution for quite a while. I was resistant because I knew (know) nothing about yoga culture, and I figured my roundness would, likely, not be able to contort into the shapes I associated with the practice. But Mindi was able to get child care for the morning, Long Beach is a quick ride over the bridge from home, and I'm all about trying newness. Normally, the following would make me run for the hills: - shared mats that have absorbed other people's body fluids. - people who are extra sweaty in close proximity to me. - people purposely and vigorously exhaling open-mouthed in my space. - someone's very long (at least three inches) armpit hair not terribly far from my face. - chanting in a language I do not know. All of this and more was present BUT the environment, the fact that I saw an employee cleaning in between classes, and Dharma's FABULOUS yoga philosophy that included a message about forgiveness as she continued to remind me to focus on breathing, stay out of my head, and relax made this one of the most enjoyable workouts I've ever experienced. Plus: - Mindi brought one of her mats for me before I ended up ordering my own on Amazon the same day. - I was extra sweaty (no, this is not "hot yoga") in close proximity to others. - open-mouthed exhaling is healing. - I was proud and encouraged the long-haired armpit lady didn't feel the need to hide her naturalness like I would. - when they chanted, I prayed to my Heavenly Father. - AND I was able to do all Dharma asked of me (minus the extra advanced moves)! It's amazing to me that this yoga is donation based. I truly hope those who can give generously do so that those who are unable to are still able to enjoy this service. And as if that's not enough great news, Yogalution offers free Yoga on the Bluff on Ocean and Junipero in Long Beach! After the beautiful and much-needed rain we had a couple of weeks into the new year, I attended a session with Mindi and another friend. It was GORGEOUS and reminded me of how blessed I am to live in Southern California. About ten classes later, I am trying to figure out to work Yogalution into the new routine I am setting up for myself. My mind is just as relaxed as my body is after each session I have attended. And each teacher I have experienced has worked muscles in my body I never knew I had while inserting their own healing style into the practice. A note: there doesn't seem to be a lot of parking on the three streets that border the building - Broadway, Obispo, and Corto - but I've never had any problem finding close parking during any of visits at different times of the day. I was privileged to offer a workshop at Yogalution, and there are not adequate words to express my love for this yoga center. Dharma Shakti and her team have created an oasis in Southern California. The energy is calm and welcoming. Classes are donation-only - a rarity these days. Though I haven't taken class there, I caught the tail end of Dharma's free class on the Bluff, and I was blown away. Best place on Earth! I've been coming to Yogalution Movement since August 2014. There is always something going on, whether it's Yoga, Belly dancing, Yoga Trance Dance, Yoga & Art, or a special Guest Speaker Event. Everyone is down to earth and really care about being of service to one another. If you are truly looking to get connected to yourself on a deeper level then I recommend this studio. Best yoga. Best teachers. Started my yoga with them on the Bluff last year and I love the studio so much. I work an 8-5 and I'm able to still catch great classes afterwards. Dharma's mantra classes are exactly what I need, every time. Marlenes and Sue's classes are amazing. Matthew and Melissa are amazing instructors for the slower and late night classes. Everyone is great! Love that it's donation-based and all of the events the studio offers are an added bonus. I LOVE THIS PLACE. If I had more time in the day... I would go to every class. The studio is so welcoming and laid-back; it feels like a second home. I usually go to Dharma (owner) or Theresa's 6pm class and weekend classes due to my work schedule but you can't go wrong with anyone that teaches here. The teachers will cater to all levels; they genuinely care about you. If you're looking for a "leave your ego at the door" yoga studio... this is the real deal. Only love here. Plus... Veda Spices has the BEST food in the lobby area ($5 for a meal & tea). Sometimes when I'm running late for the 6pm studio class and it's around 6:10... I've attended a couple Tribal Fusion Belly dancing classes with Amber and I really like it! I can bring my soon to be 9 year old daughter to participate too! There's a yoga warm up and cool down with shavasana at the end, but the majority of the class is belly dancing movements that seem simple or easy enough to execute, but they are deceivingly challenging. The class challenges you, yet the energy of the women and Amber really help to just go for it, go with the flow, and really put forth the effort to execute the movements as much as possible.
