I did appreciate that they had other machines from my usual gym. I was also a big fan of the layout of treadmills and other cardio equipment upstairs. I like that you can watch TVs without feeling like you are staring at the people lifting weights. I also took note of a lot of the different classes they were launching this year, as my usual gym doesn't offer those. It's not as flashy as some of the other Genesis gyms, but depending on what you need it gets the job done. Most people seem to be stopping by to use the tennis courts anyway.

We had my 35th birthday party at PoleWorx, and it was a great time! We had a few complicating…read morefactors, but the owner helped us navigate everything seamlessly. My birthday is always on Boulevardia weekend, and it gets CRAZY in the West Bottoms. But overall, it was a pretty easy time! We all met for a drink at The Ship, then took a quick Lyft to the drop-off point, where we were able to breeze through the gates and walk right up to the PoleWorx studio. For the class itself: We had 7 girls total, at $20 a piece, and a private instructor. We started with stretching, then some basic pole familiarity, then on to tricks! The last 20 minutes or so was kind of a 'free play' and we got to use the cool spinning pole, and just generally goof around. I learned some cool tricks, and got a way better-than-expected workout. I am SORE today (morning after) in my hamstrings, shoulders, triceps, and hip adductors. Not to mention the bruises I sustained by throwing myself too-enthusiastically at a giant metal pole :P I'm not complaining! IT WAS GREAT! Will definitely be back, and I think I might check out their fitness classes too. They've got a parking lot right by the door, so under normal circumstances, it's super easy access. The instructor was very good, providing clear instructions paced well for beginners. They were periodic breaks for water and stretching. And we finish off where a fun musical experience. I'm sure that if you wanted to do this super intensely, it would be an insane workout. The beginner class, though, is a nice pace that helps you learn the moves and get you a little bit out of breath, but it's not overwhelming. I definitely plan on getting a pass to do this more in the future.

Although his primary focus is to teach kids to defend themselves, he also develops their self esteem and respect for each other. He makes it fun for the kids so they stay focused and interested in what he is teaching them. In the adult program, Sensei was always there to spend time with each of his students to make sure we learned proper technique and movement in safe and sound manner. I got bored at both gyms I was a member in the last 2 years. I wanted to do kick boxing classes,…read morelike in Tae bo or even Les Mills. I got to where I was just using the treadmill/eliptical/ a couple of circuit machines at 24 Hour Fitness. The trainers were less than approachable. I go to Boleros near 9Round for everything but hair, and I've contemplated it since it was in the space it occupies. One day, I decided to take my free class. I woke up the next morning so sore I could hardly move. (So much for P90X)....And a few days later, I joined. 9Round is set up with 9 stations and one trainer. The trainer (most of whom I've met), goes around the room, making sure people are doing the moves right. From upper cuts to front leg kicks to jabs, you do it all. There's several punching bags and medicine balls and weights. You go from station to station and work out for 3 minutes. In no time, you're finished.They teach you to wrap your hands and tell you when to put on your gloves. When you join, you get gloves, straps and a towel and the option of a Myzone heart rate monitor. My Fitbit died the day I decided to join, so the HR monitor was a no brainer. I've gone 4 times and already I can tell a difference in muscles. I love how small it is, how the trainers interact with you. There is a changing room, a bathroom and cubicles for your belongings.I really am sore the next day. It's a total body work out. Online there's an eating plan that makes sense and other information. I'm so glad I joined. Kick boxing is a blast.
