This thrift has gone downhill in the last year or so and I have visited it for many,many years. Many items are so overpriced now. Example would be artwork...so overpriced now it ends up getting dragged in and out of the store each night for weeks on end, breaking the glass, ruining the frames, yet the prices stay high...it's really sad to see donations ruined. The worn-out furniture is overpriced too...I think most goes to the dump in the end. I'm wondering if the rent has gone up a lot - maybe this is the underlying need to overprice stuff. I also wonder if they are getting competition from FB Marketplace and Nextdoor where you can find items at a better price and in excellent condition. You can still find shoe deals, especially when special sales offer them at half price. Staff seems to have high turnover and customers are given a hard time when questioning anything.....at this place it's NEVER the customer is right. In the management's view, the customer is always wrong. Bad vibes....The volunteers are pleasant and work hard. read more

SPCA definitely gains a star -- I recently bought an enormous hardwood desk after becoming enamored of it walking by. I went in with low hopes, asking if they deliver, and THEY DO. Not only that, the delivery fee was basically gas + tip, and the two guys who came were really great about getting this monstrosity into my home. Even better, the desk has two locking drawers, which I just assumed the locks to which had gone missing long ago, but no -- two weeks later, I come home to find an envelope on my door with the prodigal keys, and an apology for forgetting them the first time around. I really appreciate all the Ikea items for half the price. Some slightly used, and some not so slightly used, some kids just don't know how to clean their stuff. Clorox wipes, steel wool, and some elbow grease, and everything looks fantastic. Decent enough to use in the garage. But to be honest, there are some great finds when you are patient enough, or just go everyday like some folks, yeah you know who you guys are. Yolo County SPCA Thrift Store - Thrift Stores Near Me - Davis, California

I drove all the way to this thrift store from Sacramento. This was my first time here and I was NOT disappointed. This is truly a "thrift" store! The deals I found were amazing and honestly, I rarely come across thrift stores such as this one in Sacramento. The prices here could not be beat. I managed to score several healthcare items and pet supplies (potty pads) for under $2 and then I walked next door to the book store and filled several hand carts with books. This thrift store is a little smaller than I'm used to, and to top things off, I came on a "fill a bag" day so there was a lot of maneuvering around people than I'm used to, but it was well worth it. I plan to come back because this is one of the few thrift stores that actually rewards customers for their shopping. I managed to spend just under $90 today ($80+ of that was on books) and I will definitely be back to get more stamps on my card. I also plan to become a member in order to save on sale days. If you can't tell, I'm absolutely blown away by the deals/treasures I found here. Way to go Yolo SPCA....and Goodwill, you should be taking notes if you're reading this review!! read more

'Didn't really shop here but I had a garage sale where all my items didn't sell so I took the unsold items around to the back parking lot and unloaded them. Seven days a week from 10AM to 4PM there is someone there to take your stuff. They don't take sporting goods though. They refused my RollerBlades but I snuck a volleyball past them. C'mon. Who's gonna get hurt from a volleyball? I don't know what the issue is. They also don't take electronics and that includes anything with a plug. Umm, are lamps electronics? Maybe, but they were buried far enough down in the box that they didn't get rejected. It felt good to get rid of a lot of junk... er, treasures that I no longer used and that somehow it would make life better for some dog or cat. I got a receipt for a tax deduction too. read more

I've outfitted my entire kitchen (plates, pans, silverware, cups, etc) and much of the furniture in my apartment from this store, not too mention a good bit of the ole wardrobe. All for very cheap. Friendly customer service, good music usually playing, and all sorts of ever changing, never ending stuff! read more

I'm all about donating to help dogs and cats!! I've donated here a few times and each time I've been greeted with punk rock kids that were passive aggressive. Last time I donated, as I drove away I watched punk kids dig through my bags and high five each other when they found books they seemed to like. This made me 2nd guess donating here as it appears donations get picked through for the staff to keep. And the donated junk is placed for sale. It's heartbreaking because unloved dogs are being exploited for this. Real compassionate "volunteers" should only be allowed to work here. Poor dogs! read more

Stopped by here while exploring Davis. Last time I was in Davis it was closed so I was eager to check it out this time around. They have a lot of stuff in the front yard, very yard sale esque. I saw some good looking furniture there, but also some junk that deserved to be in the dumpster. I didn't take a look at the clothes so they might have some more promising treasures in that end of the store. It was pretty messy and uninteresting in the rest of the store. I know with thrift stores its hit or miss.The place was super crowded so maybe we had missed the good stuff. I loved that they sold shirts there for the SPCA. If I had extra cash laying around I might of picked one up. They had a cute design and came in lots of colors. I will continue to stop by here on my trips into Davis but won't have super high hopes next time. read more

I miss this place so much! Unfortunately, I didn't start to frequent this place until my senior year in college and the following summer, but, I tell ya, when I found out that the clothes are really cheap and actually decent, boy DID I frequent the place! The discount days meant I could buy literally bagfuls of clothes with the change in my wallet and not feel guilty. And another reason not to feel guilty: the proceeds benefit causes near and dear to my heart. So there. I want to be selfish and keep this place all to myself, but I'll let the masses know that this is a wonderful thrift store. read more

I'm not gonna lie... I'm really tempted to give this place a 1-star to deter people from coming here so I can find more awesome things. But the truth is I love this place. Like every thrift store, you have to sift through a lot of stuff to find some gems, and I've found quite a few gems here. There are times when I leave with nothing, and other times when I leave with a bunch of stuff. Really depends on luck. I've found some *amazing* shoes here. Highlights: never-worn research shoes, which should have been about 80-90 bucks; rainproof vintage boots that are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and awesome work shoes, which has saved me countless $$$. They have daily specials (like discounts for seniors/students; half off specific items; as much as you can fill in a paper bag for a set price; etc.), which they update regularly on their facebook, so you can check it out before you head over. Parking is not so great, so I'd suggest walking or biking over. [Bike parking is also not so great but better than street parking.] read more

Quite possibly the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. I tried to donate a couch, and after carrying it 3 blocks, they denied it without good reason. They glared at me after I asked for reasons, then walked away. They made MANY rude remarks to my boyfriend. I am a 5'5" woman and when I asked for help, every able-bodied person working there deliberately looked at me and ignored me. Worst experience, I would recommend donating at Goodwill. read more

Ok...everyone who knows me, knows that I'm not a thrift store fan. I like to buy new and not really worry about affordability. The way I've always been, if I don't have the money, I can't afford it. That being said...I like, no love, this thrift store. First and foremost, they support a great cause. And secondly, they have great prices and sales. But mostly, they have the most unique and unusual stuff in their inventory. I've gone through there looking for something specific, and sure enough, I always come out with something totally unexpected. My favorite section is the book area in the back. I had lived in Davis for a few years and during that time period I discovered SPCA late. Boy was I clueless about what I was missing out on. What brought on my first visit was the need to get a coffee table. I came and went out with a decent size coffee table for about $7. And it was in good condition too, just a few minor scratches but the color was nice and even. What a steal. I find that SPCA is great for apartment shopping because they have desk chairs for about $4, desks and tables for about $7, and other affordable furniture pieces for cheap. Inside there's tons of lightly used clothing that ranges from $4 and up and on certain days they have an additional 50% off as well. On my last visit, I bought a really cute black dress for $3 and a picnic basket for $2!!! This place is really great when it comes to getting good deals and I love the occasional treasure hunt through their miscellaneous piles too. Shopping at SPCA is fun and affordable. read more

Since living in Davis, I have always been a fan of the SPCA thrift store. Everything is fairly priced, and more often then not you can find brand names and some decent glassware as well. They also have a pretty good record area, where you can hunt for some good tunes. Out front they always display there furniture (unless raining of course). However like many thrift stores, it really depends on who donates to the store, and take my word for it that there must be a lot of animal lovers donating to this store. So be sure to stop in and see what you can find. XOXO read more

Review is for bookstore only. What a gem! I moved to Davis in 2007 but didn't stumble upon the SPCA bookstore until today and I am thrilled that I did. As an avid reader, the habit can become expensive. They have a decent selection of recent novels and the classics. Some of the sections I didn't have a chance to explore were memoirs, self help, tech, DVDs, and more. The staff was also very helpful and well-read. Dropped $7.53, went home with seven new books. A peek into the classics section: The Odyssey, Great Expectations, Crime and Punishment, Of Mice and Men, Wurthering Heights, The Scarlett Letter. And the novels section: Life of Pi, The Kite Runner, The Help, Memoirs of a Geisha, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, The Time Travelers Wife, The Da Vinci Code. read more

This tiny store is filled with a lot more stuff than it first appears! They have something in every category of household items, furniture, including books and a pretty good selection of clothes. I can easily spend an hour just trying to see everything. The turnover rate is pretty fast, so you can expect to see new things in just a couple of days. Prices: one of the cheapest thrift stores I've been to. - Furniture: They have coffee tables and small furniture for less than 10$! - Dishes/Kitchenware: ~1.50. Silverware is just a few cents. Great stop to stock up your new apartment - Clothes: ~6$; this is how much the clothes I buy average out to be, but the prices do vary a bit depending on the designer. Still they're always incredible deals. I've seen Seven for all Mankind, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, Guess, American Eagle, Levi's. I've definitely found a working CHI straightening iron that looked new except the box had been opened, for 6$ (retails for almost 100$)! They do have discounts on certain days of the week as well. Whenever I need something, the SPCA Thrift Store is the first place I hit up. Note: They take donations around the corner of the store. read more

Bookstore portion was very fun to dig around in. There were some fantastic books available, and some that were pretty dated. I bought a bunch of books for my 2 year old for a quarter a piece. The woman before me bought a ton board books at 5 for a dollar! Two stars off because I was not impressed by the actual thrift store portion. Think about what college students cast-off. Definitely worth a look for affordably priced used goods. A friend and I stopped in on a Saturday to find jewelry 50% off. The associate was helpful and patient while we searched through all the trays. Walked away with some nice-looking jewelry for just a few dollars. I've stopped here to donate goods as well, and I always receive prompt and courteous service. read more

That's the only place my son and I would donate to just because we had two basset hounds that we were forced to give away do to strict home owner rules in our elcemonte townhouse that they abruptly changed within days so we do that in hopes that animals don't get treated unfairly do to hear wrenching unforceen events like our own. read more

Just left that thrift store right now. I don't what is wrong but I feel like there staff is becoming more unfriendly and more unprofessional. The cashier was very rude and spewing tons of attitude. The prices are also kinda expensive for old used clothes but I found something I was interested in. I bought a halloween costume and there was a huge hole on it. I didn't mind it at first because I can sew it but I asked for a discount. (It was $20 for an old DIRTY Halloween costume). She was very rude and said there were no discounts. I would have been okay if she just said no but the attitude this cashier had! It was insane and I wonder how she has not been fired! They were also offering a student discount so I asked what was the price with that discount and she refused to check at first. She just told me the total. I had to ask her to check only for that item. She was very annoyed. I'm sorry if she was having a bad day but you are at work and you should control your emotions. This isn't the first time I had workers be so.. aggressive. You work at thrift store, stop acting so high and mighty and get over yourself. But overall, the workers either seem confused or bored or distracted. Thankfully, another worker in the area was very nice and she answered my questions I had earlier even and even asked me to excuse the chaotic atmosphere. Also my partner bought a dresser and they even forgot to put that it had been sold on the tag... like I said the workers are clearly distracted and not focused. They also get so much trash they need to sort out and throw out. I don't care for the mess but there is literally things that are broken and not functional at all. Like they had ripped softballs! Why even try selling something like that? And the prices are ridiculous for some items. The mason jars are 2 to 3 dollars each just because they are MASON jars... A new pack is $8... Just be wary of prices and quality... its not always worth it to come here... Sometimes walmart and dollar tree are cheaper options. read more

I normally love shopping here but it seems the management has changed or prices have gone way up. $50 dollars for a nightstand that was covered in cobwebs, wobbly, and scratched up "because of the brand". If they are going to ask steep prices it would be nice if they cleaned up the merchandise. Staff is always friendly, but I am sad to say that this place is becoming too expensive for used furniture. read more

First off I want to say that it was SO hot in this place. That was off putting. I ended up finding something on my way out though! $85 north face running shoes which were in my size and only $5. Other than that there seemed to be kind of a lot of junk in here. Huge selection of purses and shoes though which is worth the look and the best part of this thrift store in my opinion. Completely filthy and not ADA compliant. I have not idea how you'd shop here in a wheelchair or crutches. Everything is falling apart old, stained, balled or broken. They used to be great about 10 years ago. Now I think the junkyard is cleaner. I know it's run by volunteers for a great cause, but that doesn't mean it has to be filthy? Honestly, one of the best thrift stores I've ever been to! In the past, I've purchased absolutely new jeans, a new cat tree, a modern art painting, jackets, brand new shoes and literally dozens of votive holders that were used as wedding decorations. On my last trip, I spent $38 and got 2 Banana Republic dresses (one that still had BR tags!), a top from The Limited (new with tags), 2 beaded necklaces, a large art canvas and two metal screens. Just as I was checking out, I noticed a sweet deal through Yelp... $10 for $20 of merchandise. Perfect! Once I got home, I saw a tag on the back of the screens... they are from a very high end designer and would have retailed for $100+ each! I got them for both for $16! Fantastic!! Not only are they an amazing store, but they have a great policy in which they will come to your home to pickup donations. I hosted a rummage sale several years ago and wanted to donate the leftover items. The Yolo SPCA Thrift Store sent out two gentlemen and a truck and had the truck packed full in about 20 minutes. I was so very happy to be able to give back to the SPCA community and to have had such a positive experience with their employees. OK, if you need some cheap, disposable furniture, this is the place to go get them. But if you need some vintage, thrift shop clothes, I would go somewhere else. The store has ALOT of stuff (which I admit could be a plus) but it's a little disorganized and since space is limited, it's also cramped. I feel like they sell more junk than things you want. Although I do admit, the whole point of thrifting is to find a gem in a mound of sand...this might be the place to do it. read more

I love this place. The items vary, of course and the place has all sorts of random things you can trifle through. A cat statue dresses as a pirate? Hmm, yes yes, very random. The service is ok, mainly friendly young hippies with soft voices. Anyways, there are dogs running around this place which makes the place even more spectacular. And buying my knick knacks here makes me feel good inside knowing the money is going to animals and dogs and pets. BONUS: there is always a coupon or sales out there to use! read more
