Literally everyone in the club referred me here, and as soon as I stepped in it was obvious why - a wall of plaques and trophies won in a Miata. Ed and Lee have more knowledge about setting up Miatas in their pinkies than I ever will in my entire body. Lee asked me if I had any specs in mind, and when I didn't talked with me about how I drive and how I have the car currently setup and what I was looking for in handling and then discussed the setup. Afterwards discussed what he was able to dial in, and what would have to happen to get more aggressive specs. I mean, he's like your own personal race consultant. I drive 45 minutes out of my way to bring my 1998 BMW M3 to York. Ed and his son Lee have been easy to deal with and their prices have been fair. Called York last week and made an appointment for Friday, where I was able to have my ride height raised slightly, alignment checked [I had just purchased new tires] and adjustable end links installed. Once again the work and advice was spot on. After some driving the past few months and based on our conversation we dialed the alignment back to a slightly more conservative setup. That and the increased ride height and the new end links really got me into the sweet spot. I will say the most impressive thing about service is the knowledge to do it correctly. My husband's been coming here for at least 2-3 years because he was referred to them for their "experience" with turbo charged cars. Come to find out they flat out lied to his face when he confronted them about replacing his spark plugs incorrectly, using some junk grease on the threads. He saw it for himself when we pulled them out and saw the grease AND the gap was way off, causing the car to idle hard and misfire. Never again!!! Take your business somewhere else!!!! read more

I can't believe York Automotive would treat a customer the way they treated me. I brought them a running vehicle to fix an oil leak. Teddy ignored my initial request and tried to sell me an exhaust. When I declined the exhaust and reminded him the first priority was the oil leak, he told me it needed a new motor. When I asked how much it would be for the repair, he said "If you're not going to spend any money for an exhaust, I'm not going to give you an estimate for a rebuild." Shocked, I told him I'd come get it. When I went to pick it up, the truck wouldn't start. I was then told I had to pay to have them look at it. I had it towed out. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE. They are as crooked as they come. It's a shame any business would carry on this way. read more

(that I tried to schedule in the afternoon because I knew I wouldn't make it in the morning) and they like to be rude to people ready to throw money at them. I have been going to York for many years and always recommend them to friends and family. They are very honest about what work is needed or not needed on your vehicle. They also do very good work. Having said that I just had work done and noticed they are starting to drift into the "every other mechanic world" when it comes to their pricing. They are excellent at their work and the $95hr rate I just calculated for my vehicle is fair for the quality I got. They are however starting to become like all other shops and gauging the parts prices. Historically and through any Google search 25-50% price increase for parts is normal. Non-reputable places can go as high as 100%. I had an oil change/filter, ATF fluid replaced, wiper fluid, gunk, and spark plugs. The total parts price was $143.54. I was told they were purchased through Advanced Auto. I priced the parts myself and got a total of $88. Thus a 61% markup. Not horribly over the 50% norm but on the high side considering their hourly rate is slightly above the norm also. This is also without knowing what kind of discount they get for "industry/commercial" buying. I went back and brought this to their attention and was told our prices are what they are. Kind of hurt since I have been a loyal customer for close to 10yrs. My point is if you have no idea how to work on a car then these guys are a great choice. High quality and good service. If you know how to change your own oil/fluids and plugs, they just priced themselves out of me wanting to support a local business. I will do it myself next time and save them for the major work. This would have never been researched or written if I hadn't been charged $17.08 per spark plug that cost $8.99 each. A 90% markup. It simply caught my attention. read more

Highly recommend!!!!! They go above and beyond. They earned my business several years ago when they took time to look over several used cars before I bought one. They never charged me. I thought, "wow!" I started taking all my cars there. Then, they spent hours trying to diagnose a transmission problem that my friend was having caused by Tires Plus. They didn't charge her either when she decided to trade the vehicle instead of replacing the transmission. They replaced a piece of my wheel that Costco broke and then blamed York. Ted said no way they did it because they know what they're doing, but they'd replace it anyway so I didn't have to fight with Costco. When a tow truck driver put my spare on wrong and broke something on my wheel, they fixed it and gave me documentation to forward to AAA to hold tow truck driver responsible and reimburse what it cost me to have it fixed. Most recently, they called me after seeing my Facebook post asking for help because I dropped my credit card down my car window slit. They had me come in the next day and retrieved it for me without charge. It's because of all these customer service / goodwill gestures that I take my cars there for everything they need. I sign the invoice when I pick my car up because I don't care what it costs. I honestly couldn't even tell you what an oil change costs there. I've done the cheap service places before and I always ended up regretting it. I strayed once from York since I started taking my cars there for a "better deal" at Costco on tires. NEVER again. Those tires have since been replaced by York. They are everything you'd expect from a small town business. You won't be disappointed by switching to them! read more

Extremely honest shop. The owner Ed had strongly recommend I not put over $1,000 into a rusted old Ranger. I didn't listen and a year later the rust caused more problems. He could have gone ahead and done the work, a $600 repair bill, but encouraged me to stop giving him money and replace the truck. Not many shops do that. read more
