EDIT: The sputtering is a "misfire". I saw the completion report. It says "misfire may return". $1900 later and I may have to deal with this again in six days. Do yourself a favor!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY I took my car there for engine "sputtering". In six days, after a $360 repair, and what I thought was a comprehensive deferred work report...the car started "sputtering" again. I take it back for the "sputtering" and for the recommended repairs only to find out that not one but TWO different belts tore completely in half!! That's an additional $200 that wasn't mentioned in the original deferred work report. I'm no mechanic, but I'm also no fool... belts are designed to withstand normal wear and tear. There was no mention of belt damage, meaning it was not worth mentioning or very minimal. In six days TWO belts completely broke. The report clearly was not comprehensive, or the techs are incompetent. Then to top it off, Kevin, the service manager, tells me that it can happen at any time and to be prepared to replace these belts in six days. He also said I could leave there today, and my muffler rust through by morning. This is a muffler that currently has no noticeable rust or corrosion. Or he could walk outside and break his leg. I'm appalled that he would think that's an acceptable or comparable analogy. His demeanor is very sweet but it's a ploy to make the b.s. that he serves go down very smooth!! It doesn't. And I'll make sure Dylan Cottrell, the owner, knows it!! If your car can make it a little further down the road, you'd be better off taking it to another one of the local mechanics. Folks, please avoid York Tire & Auto. Being new to the area, I made the mistake of taking my car here to get inspected since they had the quickest availability. If I had bothered to look at the reviews (Google and Yelp) more carefully I would have kept looking and gone elsewhere. That was my first mistake. $50 to replace one wiper blade (they wouldn't let me do it myself), $90 to replace my license plate bulbs ($7.50 for a pack of two at Autozone, two screws each to get to the bulbs). They wanted $900 to do my rear brakes (they said shoes and drums and wheel cylinders needed to be replaced), but after calling around to other shops in town every other estimate was $400-600 worst case scenario. They also said I needed all new tires since I made the second mistake of telling them the car had just been sitting for an extended period of time. But when I took the car to a tire place last week I was told my tires looked almost new (they were, they were purchased just prior to the last inspection) and didn't need replacing, and that any flat spots in my tires from them sitting had likely worked themselves out after driving on them more. 8 I ended up taking the car to another local shop (with no bad reviews) who changed the brakes and drums for $400 total. They also verified the tires were in good shape and that the rear wheel cylinders were fine. Bottom line, York Tire & Auto wanted over $1700 to pass the safety inspection, even though the car had largely been sitting and was even exempt for the emissions inspection since it had less than 5000 miles since last inspection. They flat out wanted to rob me. An honest shop would have said, "Hey we can't pass your inspection because the tires have flat spots from sitting, but if you drive on them more they will likely even out." With so many auto shops in this area there's no reason to take your car to a place like this where they will look for every opportunity to upsell you on things you likely won't need. Make sure you check your lug nuts before you leave! Besides breaking two of ours they didn't tighten down a whole tire. Almost caused a accident good thing it was caught before we left the parking lot read more

My oil change took 1 hour and 15 minutes after being told it would only take 30 to 45 minutes. The customer service was lacking and respect for the customer when I express my concern for the delay I was told another 10 or 15 minutes that turned into another half hour the inside of my car was dirty with oil smears on the door panel that handle and because of my impatience I feel like I was treated rudely. This place scams customers and replaces parts that don't need replaced. Both times I went there, once just for an oil change and they recommended $1,200 worth of work and second time for inspection, they wouldn't pass without me agreeing to pay for a long expensive list $1,400 of things they said needed replaced. I took their list to another more reputable shop to get a second opinion and none of that stuff needed replaced, nothing wrong with the car. It passed inspection just fine. This place is a total scam. I'll never go there again. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Went here a week ago to have the winter tires swapped on my wife's car. The mechanic was efficient and patient. He caught a problem with one of the studs on front wheel. A lot of other guys would have overcome the problem with brute force and an impact wrench. He correctly diagnosed the problem as damaged threads from a previous installation. Replaced the studs and I was on my way, saving me and my wife from the potential of a really bad day if that tire ever had to be changed at roadside. I am extremely happy that we have such a competent and conscientious mechanic in the area. I will be back. read more

I love this place! Since moving here in 2010, I have yet to find a decent honest shop that I feel that I can trust...until this past summer when I found York County Tire Sales. It seems impossible in this area to get a vehicle in for the smallest of service in a timely manner. York Tire has always worked with my schedule and not theirs. I was floored when they had one of my cars for inspection and the other that I was driving that day had an abrupt issue that made it unfit for the road. When the second car almost left me stranded, I called to check the status of my other car. Not only was it finished at 10:30 am, at the end of the month(PA state inspection crunch time) during the busiest travel season of the year, I was asked if I'd like to come down and swap the cars out so they could look at the one that was broken. That car was not on the schedule that day and I didn't expect them to be able to even look at it. However, it was fixed and out the door the same day. All of this was done at an incredibly fair price. I'm so glad to have found York Tire and Auto. read more

went in with a flat tire to get plugged, after hour of sitting. was told it wasnt repairable and that they recommended replacing both back tires for it being 4wd, gave me the quote of 500$. got the doughnut put back on and went to another shop down the street. said nothing is wrong with the tire. plugged it for 20$ and im on my way. second time coming here and each time they seem to just scamming people. read more

I sent my truck in for an alignment. They insisted there was other issues as well.. I took the bait , they yank the hook. Got charged twice for the alignment and an outrageous amount for more extensive work then what I was lead to believe. read more

Did not answer their phone during business hours then never returned my call even though I left a detailed clear message. UPDATE: After posting this review the owner called me to tell me he thought it was unfair that I did not call them a second time before leaving my honest review! Really? Rather then apologize he suggested maybe I did not leave a message because "he saw I called but got no message". However he also mentioned I'd been there before but that part was only mentioned in my voice message that he claims he never got! Furthermore It is not the job of the customer to follow up after leaving a message! A sincere apology would have resulted in a removal of my review but it's honest and accurate and will now stay. I ended up with new tires 215 55 r16 from Amazon for $45 each including free 2 day shipping and 83 automotive center will install and balance for $15 per tire. read more
