So THAT needed to go, as well as the remaining 2 ailanthus trees. Then as we looked at the tree with the large limbs, of course then we see it was rotten at the top. So that huge tree also needed to go. Bottom line was we spent way more that we had initially hoped, but once the crew was working it was easy to see why it cost what it did. They had an amazing piece of equipment that fit into the backyard and was able to reach way up to the tree top. The crew did a fantastic job of removing the trees without hitting our roof, the fence, the neighbors house and fence, etc. They also did a wonderful job of cleaning up after the removal, and it at our request left us some oak firewood, nicely stacked. I would not hesitate to hire them again. I had gotten several other quotes before going with Mills. It was hard to compare quotes because we ended up doing more work that initially planned, but we are glad we did the additional work.

The person doing the actual tree cutting was a trooper! It even started to rain and the continues until the tree was cut to the stump. They remove all debris. My only complaint is that due to the use of a backhoe needed to remove cut pieces, my backyard is ruined, no grass. Now I need a land scaper and someone to remove the stump. The trees had become a major problem--overhanging my house and gutters, and one had even grown into the foundation. Landsdown provided a great quote that beat two other tree removal companies. Their crew arrived at sunrise and completed the entire job the same day. One of the trees was extremely close to my house, and removing it without causing any damage was my biggest concern. Their team handled the work with exceptional skill and professionalism, removing the tree safely without touching the house. After removing both stumps, they did a fantastic job cleaning up the property. When they finished, the yard looked great and was ready for a fresh start. I narrowed down to three companies to get quotes from, and I ended up getting a fourth because some random guys who were in my neighborhood dropped by one day. Northern Virginia Tree Experts ended up having the best price BY FAR for tree removal. Check out my review over on their page for information about that, but they did a GREAT job. Four Brothers actually came in second on the tree removal quote, but they were still about 40% higher than NVTE. (And oh by the way, NVTE offers a military discount, which FB does not.) Four Brothers' estimate (which they showed up two hours after they told me they would to do) did come in a little lower for their pruning services though, so I held off on that until after the big trees were gone and then emailed Four Brothers to have them come back out. It took them a while to get back to me, but they finally did. I emailed back and forth with who I presume is one of the owners/four brothers, settling the details, then he said they'd be out. There was a storm that week, so I didn't hear from them and when I followed up it turned out that they had bumped me down the list to address folks with emergency storm damage. Fair enough, just could have been a bit more communicative about it. Even after saying they would come back out, they didn't ever tell me when. As a matter of fact, I just happened to be sitting out on my back porch one day and noticed, hey, there have been some limbs cut off on some of the trees! So I guess they did a good job of removing the debris! However, they still left some ugly stubs on the trees in a few places and left a few low-hanging branches on my neighbor's side. What baffles me is that there are a couple of dead limbs hanging below areas they cut that they easily could have just reached over and pulled out (stuff I can't reach even with a ladder), but they left those hanging there as a hazard to anything underneath. Overall, they took a bit of rigamarole to get out, but they have a decent price for what they did and were nice enough and cleaned up any debris from the ground. But their attention to detail is only so-so, and despite the lower pruning price it's close enough to NVTE's I'd probably just have them do everything next time since the bulk of the cost (actual tree removal) is more expensive with Four Brothers. EDIT: I had to deduct another star because their payment options are so archaic and inconvenient. They don't accept any form of online payment, only cash or check. Which, they didn't tell me what day/time they were coming by so I wasn't here to give them cash. And who keeps checks around these days? I tried even transferring money directly to their account using PopMoney since they don't have a secure credit card option online. They wouldn't accept it. Like all they have to do is click the link and put in their account number. It's so easy these days to just set up e-commerce with Square or any other array of options that this is unacceptable. I ended up getting in some checks and finally mailing them one. Very nice guys, but all around just too inconvenient in comparison to people who also do a good job for a decent (and sometimes better) price. EDIT: 10/17/2016 -- One star. Can't even get them to email or call me back about doing an estimate this year.

I had a very nice lawn and after they this crew left, I was left with huge holes and depressions in my yard from where they dropped and allowed limbs and tree trunks fall into my yard. I watched the crew damage my yard and when I went out to inspect the damage (the crew was still on-site) and point out the damage, the guys just hunched their shoulders and gave me an, "ehhh" as if they did not understand what I was saying and pointing out. I have included pictures of the damage and I would strongly advise against anyone using a company that clearly does not care about others property, professionalism, or accuracy as it relates to their job.

She said that the owner was an "arborist" and would do a good job. I remembered the word "arbol" from high school Spanish...so I gave them a call. The owner, Dan, came out and explained what all of the trees in my backyard are; why some blossom and others do not; which should bear fruits or nuts; and which could use attention. The total cost of RTS cutting down two smaller trees that were dying, all of the branches that were hanging over the roof of our house, removing some poison ivy and other, miscellaneous trimming was less (I can't remember if it was a full 2/3 less, but it was definitely 50% less) than any of the other "tree cutting" companies that I had called. Almost anyone can cut your trees, however...Ross Tree Service can help maintain your property. That being said, the receptionist may be overwhelmed...so call back if necessary and don't take off of work until they are confirmed to be on the way to perform services for you. It's well worth the extra effort and I appreciate that they prioritize fallen trees over basic trimming services.
