2nd Tree Removal - follow-up in 2026 All my comments from my review almost 10 years ago, still apply and are relevant. I would encourage that your tree removal needs are reviewed with 3 to 4 competent contractors. Include G&V in that group. We had a very large oak on the side of our home. With fallen branches, the lack of leaves and a hollowed out squirrel home in its trunk it was time to take the tree down or it would come down on its own. I did my due diligence, and spoke with multiple tree contractors. Next, I scheduled an appointment with G&V. Mario came out to my home. He later explained that he personally reviews potential work, determines required equipment and personnel to ensure it's done right and he can stand behind a proposal. Within a few days of accepting the proposal, G&V, was at my home with a caravan of equipment & personnel. They started work on time, Mario was there, and they spent an hour setting up their equipment. Look at the photos. They arrived with a crane, a man-lift, a skid steer with a tree attachment, a heavy duty tree chipper and a truck to receive shredded debris. My neighbors came out of their homes and watched this crew work. Some were saying this was the most exciting thing to happen in our neighborhood for a while. I'll get to the point. G&V showed up on time, spent an hour setting up their equipment and then safely/ methodically took apart a large oak without any damage to my home, my neighbor's property or the bushes at the base of the Oak (I thought they would be destroyed). We were absolutely pleased with the estimator and the crews who cut down our tree and ground the stump. The estimator really cared about trees and was quite sympathetic to the fact our tree - though we loved it - needed to come down for safety reasons. The crews were quick and very thorough - Carefully cleaned up everything once they completed the job. Even picked up a small child's toy and replaced it on our step. We really felt like we received good value for our money. Scheduling was the only hiccup. The cutting crew arrived one hour early which was a small issue as the work required our neighbors to move their cars. Once they completed the job they informed us stump grinding would be later. As it turns out later was a random day the following week. Fortunately the neighbors were away so moving cars wasn't an issue. However, a heads up from the company would have been super helpful. read more

I had the unfortunate issue of setting up an appointment, and no one showed up. I scheduled appointment for someone to come out and give me an estimate for the trimming of a couple trees in my yard. When no one showed up for the appointment I called the office. The office confirmed that they did have an estimate scheduled for me. Instead of them offering to find out about the delay, I had to ask when I should expect someone to come out for the estimate. At that point the representative offered to call the person who was supposed to come out to my house. When the representative got back on the phone with me, he informed me there was an emergency, and the person scheduled to come out was no longer able to come to my house. Instead of offering to reschedule, again, I had to ask if anyone else was available for the appointment. I certainly understand an emergency can occur. I'm disappointed that... 1) No one reached out to inform me that no one was going to show up at the scheduled time. 2) When I called to find out about the "no-show" the person on the phone only confirmed that I had an appointment. They made no effort to do anything about it until I asked them to check. 3) Once he checked, again, he just informed me of an emergency and that the appointment wasn't going to happen. I had to ask if and when something could be rescheduled. Again, I understand an emergency. However, it's disappointing that I was the only person that was proactive at all. read more

I last hired G&V in 2019 for a larger job. This time I just needed branches from my neighbor's fig tree that extended over my fence onto my property trimmed back to my property line. Gary arrived on time to give me an estimate. He explained the best way to cut the tree to avoid any potential legal implications was to have the crew work from my property, cutting the limbs back to one foot on the other side of the fence which was as far as my property extended. I very much appreciated the recommendation. The team arrived on time 2 days later, got right to work, did a beautiful job, and cleaned up the area before they left. Great work pruning a large oak tree in my back yard. I wanted the branches from over my townhouse's roof cut back. Also, my deck was blocked from sun causing my veggie container garden not to thrive last year. The squirrels thought my tree was an amusement park. G & V responded to survey my tree in one day, emailed a written estimate that afternoon and scheduled the job the next day. We discovered G & V back in 2016 and have hired them time and time again for multiple projects every year since. We've meant to post a positive review after every excellent experience with G & V so this review is long overdue. Our public praise and appreciation for them is well deserved. Mario, the owner, is truly one of the nicest guys. He's always gone above and beyond, making sure we were completely satisfied with his crew's work. He normally comes by at the beginning of the job to ensure his team lead and crew have their marching orders since he has usually met with clients initially and provided the quotes. He then always comes by after a job is complete to make sure it was done right! Mario has a sincere interest in helping clients and has even donated his time to try and help us resolve issues around our property. Mario's crew are true pros and always show up with top of the line tools and equipment. It is never amateur hour with these guys! We've witnessed neighbors endure days and days of subpar work from fly-by-night crews to which we just shake our heads because we know we've got Mario and his hardworking crew on speed dial to deal with any issue quickly and efficiently. We've entrusted Mario and his crew to many improvements to our property. Everything from clearing out overgrowth, trimming our trees, cutting down old diseased trees, resolving water drainage issues, landscaping design (ask for his talented designer Claire!), putting in new plantings, and of course laying down new sod. Mario can get very busy because G & V is one of the best so expect to work with his niece Lilia to schedule a visit by him and to send you a quote. My wife and I had a large maple tree taken down, but that service did not include grinding the stump to the point where we could plant a new tree in the same spot. G&V came to the rescue after a few estimates said that they could not grind as deep as we wanted, or had astronomical prices. The crew arrived on time and worked diligently on cutting our tree down. They grinded down the stump to make sure the roots were destroyed and they cleaned up perfectly all the wood and debris. I got several quotes for the tree work I needed done, and G&V provided a good "middle option." They were not the cheapest price (which was so low, I was worried about the quality of the work), nor were they the most expensive. Unlike the most expensive option, they actually allow for credit card payment with no additional fee. I do believe that if I'd gone with the most expensive option, more care would have been given to each individual tree, to ensure the cuts made were not just in the best interest of the structures of the property (ie removing low branches over the house and she'd), but also in the best interest of the trees themselves. As the old adage goes... you get what you pay for. As far as I could tell, no arborist was actually on site on the day of the tree removal and pruning...one man who seemed to be a supervisor did show up eventually, but not until late in the job, and he made no changes/additions to the work that was being done. I did also have to modify my initial quote because G&V suggested I could simply prune a tree that *both* of the other companies said would be best off being cut down, and some potential work that other tree companies had agreed to (grinding an existing stump, existing debris removal) was not included in the initial quote. The process of getting everything I wanted onto the quote took more back and forth than I would've liked. The job itself was performed quite quickly, faster than I would've expected, but their speed negatively affected the quality of the work. On the day of the job I had to point out/remind the workers of a sapling that they missed, and ask them to trim more branches of a tree that were too close to a power line and which sounded very dead when the worker cut them down with the clipper on the pole. I don't think I would've had these issues with the company with the more expensive quote, since that company saw *all* of the work that needed to be done included it in their quote from the beginning, and the person from that company who came to do the quote specifically mentioned making sure to make cuts with the overall health of the trees in mind, and keeping the trees balanced as opposed to only cutting the branches that are over the roof. Overall, I'm satisfied with the value of the work, especially since I didn't need to pay by check/debit to avoid a fee. I do know, however, that better is out there (for a price) so I "like" the work G&V did but I don't "love" it. read more

**DO NOT USE ANOTHER TREE SERVICE** before talking to G&V. We talked to many different companies prior to having a Poplar significantly trimmed back and all were less professional, sophisticated in their operation, and overall value. You will likely find their prices are higher than others, but there's a reason for that as they have good staff who can properly diagnose what needs to be done and are trained arborists. The crew was quick, safe, friendly, and did a great job removing all of the debris. They were also competitively priced. The stars reduction from 5stars is because I was so happy that I asked for estimates to plan my landscaping, but unfortunately, Mario missed his first appointment to give me an estimate, came out another day, and never sent me an estimate despite me following up and reminding G&V. I was not going to bother writing this review after Mario was not able to fix my erosion/water issues but this afternoons discovery was the straw that broke the camel's back. I have had erosion water issues on my side yard for a while now and after contracting Mario he explained that I needed some piping to route the downspouts to the street. But after the first bad rain it was obvious his solution did nothing. After contacting him to complain about the issue he advised that I spend roughly 2x the original cost and regrade the soil and install sodding. After some thought, I decided to hire another contractor but after a light amount of digging it was discovered that the piping was barely below the surface of the ground. Now I am going to have to have the piping taken out or lowered to accomodate the french drain being put in. read more

These guys got out same-day when I had an emergency tree uprooting problem. They confirmed that the tree would not fall immediately and came back the very next morning to do the removal. Despite it being a large tree, they brought a sizable crew and got it down quickly and also did the full stump grinding. Their project manager, Mario, was very friendly and personable. One star off for price -- pretty expensive compared to some of smaller companies I have used for tree removal, but they were definitely cheaper and more customer-friendly than Davey. One star off for payment methods -- their online invoice doesn't allow credit card payments or PayPal, only bank account linking. They also DO NOT tell you when you sign a contract (which has the VISA logo on it) that they only accept credit card over the phone and with a 3% additional service charge. Pretty ridiculous and outdated way of doing business. I know most people are probably like me and prefer to get those Amazon rewards VISA points!!! read more

This company did a great job cleaning the crowns of three of my trees and clearing the brush from their job. They came back after the weather improved to dig out the roots of a large oak tree. Very happy with them and asked them to come back this week to clear large limbs knocked down by the high winds last week. I know they'll do a good job! read more

Do not request to schedule an estimate over yelp. They give you a day and time and then write you few minutes before your scheduled time saying they don't have enough information to schedule. Apparently, address and phone is not sufficient to get someone out to you who can collect whatever other info they need. My husband took time off work to be there today and they fell short. If you are left with no other choice, then I recommend you call them directly, do not use yelp. Or don't bother with them at all. read more

If you enjoy terrible customer service, this company may be right for you. While a job of pruning back some vines on a wall was ok, they never fully finished the job in our opinion. I've never seen a tree taken down so fast and we've had A LOT of trees taken down! We got 4 quotes for this tall, leaning Virginia Pine. One tree company wouldn't touch it without a crane. G & V had the best price. Marcelo, Mico, and Reynaldo arrived and quickly went to work. Within AN HOUR, the tree was down. I'll post photos. This was a dangerous tree, but they had a system and worked as a well oiled machine. The gentleman pulling the limbs to the chipper didn't just walk to the chipper, he jogged. I don't know how he did it in the oppressive heat. The staff of G & V are top notch from the point of contact with Alex, the estimator to Edwin in the office. We'll never use another tree company. The front of our home was a mess with a ton of weeds and overgrown plants. I found G & V through yelp and was impressed with the great reviews. From the 1st call for the estimate to today every communication was professional and helpful. We ended up getting the front redone. By the time I got home I was amazed with how everything looked. The work they did to trim our trees was great! They kept what they could to keep the tree healthy but within our small yard. They also left us the larger pieces and cut them to a useable fire pit size for us. I really appreciated their work on site. The issue I had was with scheduling. I didn't hear from them after I accepted the proposal, so I waited over a week or so before I called them to get the appointment set up. It would be a few weeks, no big deal as it was the beginning of spring and I assumed they would be busy. But then the headache because we took off the time they were scheduled to arrive, but then no one showed up. I called the office and they said I was second client for the day (so they double booked or something and I got pushed down?) and they wouldn't be able to show up until later in the day. And then something came up at the first client and had to get rescheduled, which that part was understandable. You don't want to delay everyone all day so just reschedule me, that's okay. But it was quite a bit of inconvenience I will contact them again though for future tree trimmings, I'll just have to super confirm the date and time after I set up the appointment. read more
