The scope of my project included climbing two trees to remove deadwood, cut wood to firewood size, trim the canopy of a large holly tree, shape up a couple of mid-size trees and remove debris. Natural Edge was responsive, informative, professional, punctual and had a terrific work crew. The team did not simply prune and remove. We hired Jim and his crew to deal with an area behind our property that was covered in invasive vines that were going to kill our trees if left there. We didn't even know if we'd be able to hire someone to tackle it, because there's no easy access to that part of the property -- it's behind a massive retaining wall and down a slippery, muddy, rocky slope. Jim was undeterred -- before he even had the job, he volunteered to lower himself down there on ropes and a harness to get a better look at the scope of the work and tell us what needed to be done. He and his crew then spent three days out there clearing the vines and cleaning up the property -- lowering themselves up and down on rope harnesses the whole time. They dealt with copperhead snakes, rain, and mud, and they did it cheerfully and professionally, even when the job turned out to be harder than originally thought, and at competitive prices. Jim himself was a pleasure to deal with -- friendly, helpful, and really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the work. He was incredibly responsive -- scheduled us immediately and always replied to messages right away. Highly, highly recommended. read more

After meeting and reviewing over ten tree service companies, we finally settled with Natural Edge. When we met with the owner, Mr. Jim Peters, this relatively young man impressed us with his knowledge and experience. We wanted a 60+ feet silver maple tree taken down and another taller silver maple reduced. We wanted everything taken away and stump grinned. His estimate for the job was not the lowest we had received, but the extra work and care he described was much more detailed. Examples included grinding the veins of the stump, repairing the damaged lawn including seeding, and topsoil to filled the stump hole. Jim and his crew work very efficiently and cleaned up nicely. I contacted Jim and a few other companies to get en estimate on trimming back some branches on a couple trees on our properties. Jim's company came out and was extremely professional. I wasn't sure how to articulate what I wanted, but Jim immediately understood that I just wanted to trim them to make sure big branches don't fall on or around our house and cars. After contacting him the first time, he was vey flexible coming to provide estimate, and gave me one the same day, same visit. Even though I told him that I would get back to him because I wanted to look over everything with the other companies, Jim told me that he could do it the same day for a discount. I still wanted to look over everything, but he called me a couple days later honoring the discount. Of course I had to take it! His crew came out on some of the coldest days of the year (January 2018), even though I told him that it could wait, it didn't seem to bother him. I am SO glad he did the work then because later that week there were high winds and for the first time, I was able to sleep soundly since we moved into our house during high winds. What really prompted me to write this review was this past weekends windstorm, and I felt so at ease knowing that Jim and his crew worked on our trees. Only a few branches fell because Jim got rid of the major ones. He even trimmed back our bushes and hauled away some other branches in the same price. Jim and his crew did an awesome work on trimming trees and shrubs. He responded to my message (via yelp) very quickly and provided a free estimate on the same day. I wasn't home on that day because I didn't expect him to come right away so I requested a follow-up meeting and he scheduled another visit without any complaints. I was really thankful for that. He walked us through his plan for each tree and shrub so that we can fully understand his plan and made sure we are happy with his plan. I'm not sure how Natural Edge got such high reviews (consistently 5 stars) because they were anything but. Jim Peters has consistently over promised and under undelivered on his services. Yes, he was able to cut the big tree from my frontyard. But he showed up late twice. Ground up the stump but didn't do it completely and refuses to come back to finish the job. Worst of all, he damaged the concrete sidewalks with falling barks, promised to fix it, and never returned. Wouldn't even respond to my messages or calls. I filed a claim with his insurance company and the adjuster said he never returned her calls either. A business person who only cares about profit but at the cost of customer service or fixing their damages is not a good business model. They may have competitive prices but Jim Peters and his company does not care about the customer and has terrible service. I would rather pay a little more and go elsewhere. I had such high hopes for a good experience after a terrible experience with another company last year. I asked Jim to come give me a quote to fix a lot of what that other company messed up. Jim came very quickly to give me an estimate, he was friendly and his estimate was fair. Service was booked about a week later, and we were even able to schedule right before the holidays. His staff was quick and efficient. After they cut down a tree and trimmed back several branches, Jim said the person who grinds the stump would be by in a few days and then Jim himself would return to lay sod down. Again, as it was right before the holidays, I said I understood, but I did withhold the payment for those services from the total. It is 5 weeks later and the stump is still there and everytime I follow up with Jim, he says, "be there in a few days" and never comes and never follows up. I understand he has some family health issues he is dealing with, but I would rather he have told me to get someone else to do it rather than this game of I ask, I wait, he doesn't show, I never hear from him.... read more

Jim responded really quickly to my inquiry for tree pruning and removal. Scheduled during the week to come by for an estimate on Saturday. Saturday comes around and shows up on time for the walk around. Estimate drawn up for pruning 2 trees and removing a tall pine. We negotiate final cost and gets his crew out there the same afternoon. Made quick work of the trees and cleanup after. Came back within a couple weeks to take care of the stump. Competitive pricing and the owner rolls up his sleeves and gets up in the tree himself to get the job done. Jim and his team did a great job on my property in Orange Va. I needed some dead trees removed - about 6 of them - and most were very close to my newly built home. The team arrived when they said they would and were done, cleaned up and gone in less time than was estimated and for a reasonable price. I asked for the trees to be cut into 16inch logs so I could use for firewood and they not only cut the logs but stacked them in neat stacks making it easier for me to cut. They chipped all the branches and even offered to chip a few additional piles I already had around the property. Some of these trees were over 100ft tall and more than 24 inches in diameter. They took them all down safely and cleaned up the property completely before they left. I am happy to recommend Natural Edge. read more

We had Natural Edge remove a large tree in 2018. The removed the tree fine but cracked our recently installed walkway during the removal when their technician dropped a large limb on it. Jim, the owner, promised to replace the cracked stone and I mistakenly paid them in full. That was 2 years ago. I have the full list of text messages, Yelp messages, and email since then with one story after another. I would write every few months and get a nice response that he would take of it very soon. Nothing. He would tell me one story after another of hardship and family illness (many I believe were true) but could never find the few hours it would take come out and fulfill his word and fix the damage his company did to our property. Incredible frustrating to be lied to and put off for 2 years and still have a damaged walkway that was never corrected. Buyer beware - do not pay in full until any damage done is corrected. read more

This company is truly everything you want. The young men, Jim and Daniel, and all their helpers are incredibly knowledgeable. I was so pleasantly surprised at the speed of their response to my initial contact. Within an hour Daniel had called to follow up and made an appointment the same afternoon. He walked me through the two landscape projects we had (an ornamental Cherry that needed desperately to be pruned and reshape, and two huge oaks that lean over our house that needed pruning.) We discussed the options and I let him know that we were in no hurry since I realized this is a very busy time of year for them. They estimate the gave us was very competitive and I felt a very fair one for they work that needed to be done. I had contacted two other tree professionals at the same time. One of them -- without even coming to see me or talk with me about the projects emailed me an estimate...?-- The other gave a good price estimate but did not seem to really understand the work that we wanted to be done. After deciding with my husband that Natural Edge was the company we wanted to go with I called Daniel to give him the OK. He immediately got me on the schedule for 2 days later. The work they did was superior. The Cherry tree looks healthier than it has in years, and the Oaks no longer threaten my home. They came in, did the work and were so quick I hardly knew they were here. All they staff who came and worked with them, and Jim and Daniel themselves, were so courteous and polite, always checking to see if I approved the work they were doing as they went and making sure I was pleased.That goes a LONG way in my book!
