Overlooking the vineyard with the smell of Redwoods and Oak trees.

A Bordeaux Winery in Mendocino County! Truly extraordinary wine from white to red. We have frequently stopped to get a bottle or two on our way to stay on the Coast and have always been knocked out by every bottle we've chosen. Today we stopped for another and the weather is perfection. Their brand new deck underneath a grand oak tree, with their view, was idyllic! Stop in all you wine lovers! Greg will treat you like family and the wine is worth a trip from any surrounding county!

My husband and I decided to stop at Yorkville Cellars on our way up to Mendocino New Year's Day and we're so glad we did! The tasting room is on a beautiful property in Yorkville. Gary, the gentleman who helped us with our tasting, was very informative and friendly even though we continually pestered him with questions. We ended up taking home a bottle of their Sweet Malbec as well as a bottle of their Sauvignon Blanc. Next time we're in the area we will be sure to make another visit to Yorkville Cellars!

Beautiful sunset & fall color on the property. Always our last stop out of town.

Gary is always a delight to visit at the tasting room and the reason we return. This winery has a great homey vibe, beautiful sunsets when the days are shorter, and uncommon varietals like malbec and cab franc. Highly recommend this place if you want the anti-Napa experience. :) (Their cat Slate is really sweet too!)

Don't pass up Yorkville when traversing Hwy 128. Their delicious (& organic!) Noble Reds set them apart from the Pinot Noir focused wine makers in Anderson Valley. The tasting room staff are warm & knowledgeable...Gary is my favorite wine guy! Stop in to enjoy their sparking Malbec, learn some Boontling & pet the vineyard cat, Slate! Cheers!

Slate, the winery cat-sweet and friendly (and I'm not a cat person).

Delicious wine. Gary is awesome. Great customer service. Definitely worth a visit (and membership). Expect a neighborhood feel and experience, that's what you will get.

Great first stop wine tasting in mendocino county. The staff was super friendly and informative. Highly recommend playing "name that varietal." A creative and challenging twist to wine taste. Most importantly all of the wines were a delight to taste.

Farm-to-table magic on California's North Coast…read more One of our favorite stops and one we still daydream about was Pennyroyal Farm. The cheeses alone are worth the drive, especially their Laychee which happened to be studded with fresh blueberries when we visited. If you try only one thing, make it the seasonal Laychee. It's unforgettable. We also devoured their ultra creamy deviled eggs, sipped wine, and ordered a cheese board because, honestly, cheese was the only thing on our minds. Boonville sits about 115 miles north of San Francisco, tucked among vineyards, redwoods, and small-town farmland. This whole stretch feels like a little slice of heaven. Stepping onto the property, it reminded me of a European farmstead. What makes Pennyroyal so special is that everything you taste comes directly from this land: goats, sheep, gardens, vineyards, cheese, wine - all feeding into each other on the same 66-acre ecosystem. Nothing is outsourced. They're open daily, and you can grab a table overlooking the vineyards or wander over to meet the animals and the people behind your very happy stomach. If you're exploring California's North Coast, this place belongs on your list.

Great for kids, even the younger kids won't complain about the walk and the animals are exciting for them. Following the farm tour was the wine and cheese tasting, which was excellent of course. There are many great wineries in this area and the wine was good, but the specialty is on the cheese. The cheese was amazing! They offer a limited food menu (think heavy snacks or appetizers rather than a full meal) and the food was also excellent. Plenty of space for the kids to run around. At my next visit I'm bringing an ice cooler so that we can take cheese to-go for home enjoyment. Overall this is a delightful and kid-friendly wine and cheese tasting and I look forward to my next visit.

Today we had excellent service from Nicolas who welcomed us into the cheerful holiday ambiance even though we arrived at 4:30pm, not long before the 5pm closing time. Nicolas did not rush us, gave us a bonus pour of sparkling to start off our Red Lovers tasting ($20), and allowed us to sample the chocolate made with cab. Today our favorite was the petit verdot. Thanks for the warm welcome, Nicolas!

The energy was very much "hospitality from a bygone era," and not in the quaint, charming way, more like the dusty, uncomfortable chapter no one should be proud of. While certain customers were treated like visiting dignitaries, I was met with the kind of selective service that made me wonder if I missed a sign on the door explaining what unspoken criteria you have to meet to get acknowledged. It's almost impressive how obviously the staff following the tone set by Tyler and Chris Nelson can divide the room without saying a single word. And the wine? Let's just say if you're going to run your service like it's stuck in a different century, at least make the wine good enough to distract people. Instead, the wines taste as tired as the attitude, flat, uninspired, and definitely not worth the emotional archaeology required to survive the vibe here. Meanwhile, others were getting the deluxe treatment while I stood around wondering if I needed to dust myself off to prove I wasn't part of the furniture. The whole experience felt like an unintentional social experiment in favoritism. Do yourself a favor and skip the time-travel tour. Dancing Crow down the road exists firmly in the present day, friendly staff, actual hospitality, and wine that tastes like it was made in this century, not the last three. Nelson Family Vineyards? If you like outdated attitudes and underwhelming wine, sure. Otherwise, keep driving.
