Why it's difficult to follow simple instructions is beyond me. Every year when I am forced to drive the 40 minutes from my home so the Dr can approve my refills for another year there's always SOME hassle. Last year they arbitrarily lowered the dose on my migraine medication sending me into a month of back to back days of migraine with no relief until (after being forced to communicate with the Dr via the patient portal even though I'd explained I didn't have a computer or at the time a smart phone) they finally put me back to the normal dose. However first they had to call the prescription in WRONG. Another huge hassle. Long story short Dr Maska herself is kind, patient and seems to genuinely care but the incompetence of her office staff makes this review 2 stars instead of more. Edit: I saw her again yesterday. Office staff still left much to be desired asking super personal questions (such as do I have financial difficulties affording my medication, do I have problems sleeping from stress) that I do not see how they pertain to my neurological health. When asked the girl couldn't answer. SO NO IDEA why they ask these questions but they made ME uncomfortable. Still Dr Maska herself is wonderful. She listens, educates about new medication choices but doesn't force any changes on you if what you've been doing works. She's kind and empathetic. She listens. If this review was for JUST her it would be 5 stars. As is I moved it from 2-3.

RECAP: I have been fighting with this doctor's office for several months because, even tho they are in network with United Healthcare, they billed me & sent me to collections. I have a list of 17 dates & times that I called Collins' office & left a message. No return calls. Collections, United and even Alta Bates got involved trying to get them to send me the insurance form so that I could file it with United. What's new since my last update: In April, I sent a Demand Letter, giving Collins 10 days to send the insurance form so that I could file it with United or I would file in Small Claims. Since Collins himself would have to appear in court, the insurance form magically appeared in my mailbox. I filed it and United paid the claim. The tricky part is that I paid them $350 ($25 co-pay + the $325 they sent to Collections). But, they are in-network for United, so United only paid them the contractual amount, which is $215. Let's be clear here: between what United Healthcare paid them and what was extorted out of me, Associated Neurology has now been paid $565.00. They are contractually allowed $240 ($25 copay plus $215). I sent a letter explaining that they owe me $325 (since United paid them). They sent a nasty letter back telling me that they don't own this account anymore. Get my money back from Collections or United. That's what the words said; the real message was "go eff yourself." I sent proof of insurance payment to Collections. No refund. Associated Neurology (Meagan, to be specific, author of nasty patient correspondence) told Collections that they weren't paid and that they don't owe me any refund. Yes, Meagan, you do. At a minimum, you owe me $110, because you balance-billed me for more than your contracted amount. I called United again, who put me on hold while they called Collins' office. When the rep identified herself and ask for Meagan, they hung up on her. United Healthcare has now escalated the issue to their Contracts department. The Collection agency has a department head talking to Collins/Associated Neurology's office. Dear Meagan, it appears that you have better things to do than your job or the right thing (which should be the same). Has it occurred to you that it would be less work for you to settle this issue? Or that, if you don't feel like doing your job, there are probably hundreds of unemployed medical office workers who would be glad to have the work? Be glad that you don't work for me...

Had a frustrating insurance issue earlier this year. Copay for my MS drug was over $750 and I did…read morenot meet the drug company's criteria for financial assistance. Hated to do it but needed to see my neurologist for financial help, as in, is there a cheaper therapy. Dr Randy Starkey walked me through the decision process for changing meds. He reviewed far more than my neurological history. In one short visit we discussed my allergies, skin reaction to current medication, a pre-existing skin condition, and my chronic mild depression. He told me about the changes in these conditions to watch for as well as some other side effects of the new drug. I'm pleased to have a doctor willing to help me keep my "Health care spend down" by focusing on my health needs. I left the appointment on a new medication, comfortable that I understood the potential downsides of the change. I see a lot of negative comments about the receptionist. It's been the same person for years until recently and I did not find her memorable. The office has good on site parking, even during the hospital construction across the street. I've never had billing issues. The building is clean.

Dr. Bott took the time to understand all the things going on and took his best guess and treating the most severe issue which by the way was missed by several other doctors. Like another reviewer mentioned - what I really liked is how he explained the WHY behind the prescription. To one of the 1 star reviewers - yes this medication also made me feel like I couldn't go on - but this is known about some drugs until they have time to cross the blood brain barrier and take affect - which is 4-6 weeks on average. I stuck it out, been on the medication 3 months now and feel much better. I work in healthcare so it takes a lot for an HCP to impress me. That being said, when this man retires we will lose an extremely knowledgable and caring physician. Highly recommend. Two of the one star reviews on here have absolutely nothing to do with Dr. Bott's knowledge, experience and mannerisms. This is not a yelp site for who takes what insurance or for the front desk staffs' phone skills, it is a review for Dr. Bott's care.

I also told him of an on going neck issue. He went right into action. He had me get 2 MRI's. (Oh, X-rays 1st; he reviewed x-rays with me during 1st appointment). The shoulder MRI shows a moderate issue (it really hurts sometimes, but "moderate", ok if you say so). That was addressed by Dr. Pitcher with a cortisone shot. He said try that and let him know, otherwise there's a minor procedure that could be entertained. Well, I'm dealing ok with that. But, more importantly -- the MRI for the neck -- severe stuff going on and he correctly and critically had me see the spine specialist (Dr. Hasan, who has been AWESOME) and a neurologist who performed 2 nerve studies. Dr. Hasan reviewed the MRI on the neck in detail (after Dr. Pitcher brought the issue to my attention). Here's the thing, a neck MRI had been done a year ago and indicated the same thing. I wish that MD had referred me to Dr. Hasan at that time! Thank goodness Dr. Pitcher came into the picture and referred me to Dr. Hasan. Now I am scheduled for a major surgery on the spine to address the issue. Scary, but I know I am in great hands with Dr. Hasan. Oh, ok, this is the last thing I'll say...Dr. Pitcher is a totally nice guy. I mean really, really kind and just a pleasant demeanor! The number 1 thing is that he's good. But, on top of that he's kind while being good at what he does!! Dr. Pitcher strikes out another problem! (sorry) lol

Upon meeting Dr. Grant two years ago for my evaluation from a back injury I had on the job that Worker's Comp. didn't do anything about he was extremely attentive listener and did a exam on me and told me what his professional opinion was of what I had. He said we had to do EMG to confirm and he would order physical therapy. He was so great during the EMG and yes for me it was painful however he was sensitive to my needs during the process. It confirmed his professional opinion of what I had wrong and we continue to treat with steroid injections. They were amazing! Shortly after meeting Dr. Grant my nausea got really bad I started projectile vomiting I started blacking out I couldn't sleep I had to sleep sitting up. I Continue do follow ups to check in with Dr. Grant to treat my back injury he was very aware and I told him I'd be sent home from the ER four times. I was having really bad migraines worst in my life and Dr. Grant referred me to a neurologist but I couldn't get in for two months and I was also referred to another neurologist by my primary care doctor but also couldn't get in for two months. Long story short Dr. Grant said come back in gave me neck injections in office and if that didn't work he would work around the medical insurance red tape to get me a brain MRI. Something more was wrong so Dr. Grant made the MRI possible because still no availability at the neurologist. I had a call 20 minutes after my Brain MRI from Dr. Grant and poor Dr. Grant bless his heart never having to do this before in his life because he specializes in a different medical field had to tell me I had to rush myself to the ER or call 911 because he didn't know if I would live. I had a huge brain tumor. Dr. Grant had called the hospital ahead of time to make sure the best neurosurgeon in the country was on my case. Can you believe Dr. Grant did all this for me? WOW! After having brain surgery Dr. Grant still did not leave me. Dr. Grant still continue to take care of me evaluate the scar on my head and give me Physical Therapy for my vestibular schwannoma even though he didn't have to do any of these things and even though he could've just given up on me and said well I gave you the referral I did my part it's up to you. I would have DIED. It's because of Dr. grants efforts and listening to me that I am alive today I am so very thankful! I can't believe I found a Doctor who I can say is actually in my corner who fights for me. BTW, the office staff is nice here however making appointments in dealing with the processes aren't all that great that doesn't matter when you have the best doctor in the world thank you Dr. Grant.

Had an absolutely terrible experience with Boomerang Oakland. I had an appointment with Dr. Diokson…read morein February. The purpose was for him to prescribe/approve physical therapy. In late March, I'd gotten no referral and my insurance had heard nothing from Boomerang. I followed up and found out Dr. Diokson did not sign the note from my visit. This delayed me starting care for over two months between the time it took for me to figure out the mistake, get it corrected, and then get an initial PT appointment scheduled. Additionally, this process required me to interact with Boomerang's customer service on the phone several times. I found them uniformly rude and unhelpful. Different people told me different and conflicting information, making it difficult to understand what I needed to do to access care. Currently, I am in the waiting room for a follow up appointment that was scheduled for 10:45. It is now 11:08 and I was told the Dr. is with a patient and then there is another patient ahead of me. Clearly Boomerang does not respect their patients' time or care about them accessing care. I would encourage everyone to avoid treatment here at all costs. I am stuck here as I am a workers comp patient, otherwise I would never return.
