The nibblings have been coming here since they were tiny. I remember the days of the lobby being filled to the max and having to wait some. Now post extreme covid restrictions I've noticed less patients at checkin. They must have a better system in place for appointments. We've never been turned away or asked to reschedule. The staff is always kind and professional. I love the murals in each room and the sea theme is amazing. I want to see the whole place and snap a pic of each room. They're all different. They have a reward program for the kids but I'm not really sure how it works. I know they do give them coins after visits to get toys out of their bubble gum machines. If I could leave 0 stars that would better align with the customer service a this place. we had an appointment scheduled and no one was there for at least 20 mins after the appointment time and we couldn't get anyone on the phone. I initially rated this facility a 5 from the first visit, however with the experience I've had since then my opinion has changed. The Doctor was fine. The front desk staff was not. They do not answer the phone or return calls. I have been attempting to schedule surgery and can not get it set up. The front desk staff was unable to explain the billing to me and expressed frustration from my questions. I asked to speak to the doctor or to have him call me. The front desk personnel instead put me on hold several times while she communicated back and forth between us. The hospital coordinator was supposed to reach out to me and never did even after several calls. The dental hygienist, Kenalyn, was very kind and sweet with my two year old daughter. I appreciated the way she explained everything at a child's level before she performed any care in my child's mouth. The dentist, Dr. Young, was friendly and thorough too. He provided me with some information to consider and that I wasn't aware of that will help us avoid developing cavities in my daughter's mouth. Waited over an hour for the doctor to come in and give a filling. Constantly telling me " She'll be in just a minute " and that took an hour. Their excuse was " we're shorted staffed " but respectfully I don't think that's my problem. If your short staffed, you should schedule accordingly. The GPS took my husband to the wrong building and he was 15-20 min late. My son have been going to Young & Polite since he was about 4/5 years old. I couldn't remember ever going there without waiting in the lobby for at least 5 to 10 mins, sometimes more. Yes they have movies and IPads to keeping them busy. So I don't mind. However, when I arrived 10mins late and waiting 5 more mins behind a patient so I can check in. I was over the 15 mins grace period and now I have to reschedule. I'm very unhappy about that. I can understand I CAME in more than 15 mins late. But I wasn't. Young & Polite operated in a tight schedule. They packed the kids in and get kids out. I don't know if they have private rooms because I was never back there, it's a big open space with 8/10 operating stations. I never liked this. My son get soo distracted when he hears/sees other kids screaming and at times it get really loud. Since they asked that I reschedule, I decided not too so I will find someplace that's not as busy, less waiting time in the lobby, better check in policy and maybe not that the same open space concept! read more

I have been bringing my daughters to Young and Polite for 8 years. The staff is friendly and quickly check you in. They have a movie playing and the walls have great artwork. There are also books in the lobby if your children prefer to read. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes. The hygienists always explain what is going on and I like how they have different flavors of cleaning paste that the kids can choose from. They also have small toys that children can choose once their services are complete. The dentists are also very thorough and have a great bedside manner. My youngest daughter used to have dentist anxiety. She would go into hysterics and sometimes couldn't be seen since she wouldn't calm down. The staff always treated me and my child with respect even during a meltdown and allowed me to reschedule. Now, that child is finally comfortable with the space and no longer has any anxiety. On another note, I think that it is a benefit to have a large open space for the kids to see each other getting their teeth cleaned. This helped my child get over her fear of the dentist once she realized that everyone else was having their teeth cleaned and were okay with it. This is the dentist I went to for the first three times with my son when he was 18 months. The assistant told me that I should have brought him in before he was 1 and shamed me in that. The dentist was then rude to me informing me that he had cavities which were my fault for breast-feeding him at night (this is kind of true but was so pointless because I had stopped breastfeeding at the point) The solution they offered for the cavities was silver fluoride which turns the cavity BLACK but stops it in its tracks. His cavities were on the front of his teeth so I weighed that if he had black front teeth kids wouldn't play with him which would be more detrimental to his development than cavities. I opted out of the silver fluoride. The receptionist had me sign a waiver stating I refused this treatment and then told me "you're making a mistake people will say you're a bad mom for not doing it" which made me so terrified I stopped bringing him to them. It was the only dentist my crappy insurance covered at the time (big sign!!) which brings me to why I'm writing this review TODAY not when it happened. I've just come from a different pediatric dentist who has him all set up for crowns on his front teeth and silver fluoride for his back teeth. Where they told me silver fluoride on front teeth is UNHEARD OF and not something they would do even if asked because it's black on front teeth. They did not shame me only said hey it's okay this is fixable. Another note about Young and Polite is that he was only 18 months old and they put him on the regular dentist table with all the other older kids, which are all crammed together in one big room, he was scared and cried and they snapped at me that he was scaring the other kids and rushed him to a private room (where he should have been in the first place!!) I'd like to note my new dentist distracted him and asked him questions and made him giggle he didn't cry at all and held his mouth open wide because of how he was treated. You also get a coin to get a toy from a machine on the way out and my baby was taking a while (3-4 minutes) to pick which toy and the assistant walking me out said "just pick one already" super exasperated My final observation is of a mom that was in the waiting room on my way out that was basically screaming at the receptionist because she claimed they had lied and told her that her daughter had cavities but she took her to two other dentists who said she had none and that Y&P was trying to extort money by doing unnecessary dental work. This was my toddler's first trip to the dentist. We were called back right at our appointment time (we arrived early to turn in our paperwork). Our dental hygienist, Jessica, was amazing! She gave us a tour and carefully explained everything that would happen during our visit. She let my son feel the dental equipment with his fingers before putting them in his mouth. She also played little games to make him feel comfortable. The Dentist, Dr. Young, was great as well. He was super friendly and did a wonderful job communicating with us. I wish I could give zero stars! Yes, they are good with the kids but that's it...BUYER BEWARE! They'll tell you they checked with insurance and tell you you're covered or tell you they're "looking into".. Or "yes, I'll have someone from our office contact you". No one ever called me back and no one ever told me services weren't covered even after I asked them directly..I called them Sept, Oct, Nov, and no one ever called me. I asked while in their office too but they said the person I need to speak with was unavailable or "out to lunch". They called in January to set an appointment and I said no, I'm not stepping one foot in that place until someone calls me to resolve our account...again no one called! I told them up front at the very first appointment that I didn't think insurance covered that it's only preventative but they assured me it would be covered..now I have a bill for $425!!!! We took our 3 year old to his first dentist visit and it went terrible. He was scared and staff did nothing to help. He refused to lay on the bed so they suggested I sit with him in my lap and force him to half lay down so they can clean his teeth. Of course my son didn't like this position any better so staff told me they will hold him. I reluctantly let them, so two of them pinned him down at which point my son went into full scared screaming. Lady who was supposed to clean his teeth went to clean like nothing is happening and I was told that this is alright, they all cry. I picked my son at this point, really totally shocked and angry at this point. He was gaging at a little cleaning fluid he got left in his mouth because he was still crying, and both ladies at this point were panicking, despite me telling them that he's alright. I took him to restroom because he was telling me he needs to pee, when I came back to get my things I wanted to tell them that this is a terrible way to introduce a child to dentist experience but they pretended I'm not there and literally turned their back to me. I walked out deeply distressed at myself that I brought my child there. They had no toys or any distraction appropriate for his age and staff has zero training on how to work with toddler. We imagined they will make it fun, show him how to clean teeth and talk him through it, the point was to introduce him to dentist experience not to clean his teeth at any price. Absolutely the best care! Everyone from the front desk, the hygienists and doctors are welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and professional. We've been going to the Steele Creek location since their very earliest days and feel even though the practice may be growing, the care we get has also grown. Our kids are remembered by name, the staff asks how they are and actually care about our response. The challenges of scheduling back to back or even overlapping appointments is never an issue. Horrible experience today! Although I understand that COVID measures are in place, I was not comfortable with my 8 year old getting her first cavity filled without me present in the room. It is her first time with numbing shots. My daughter has anxiety due to some other issues and the practice asked us to try without me. I agreed, but was told the patient coordinator would speak with my daughter first to make her more comfortable. Then the patient coordinator and "pediatric dentist" came out to talk to me about the treatment plan, that was not explained well the first time I was given it. We had put the cavity filling off due to the COVID procedures they have in place. So I wanted to have this completed if possible. Five minutes before this the dentist, who has never seen my daughter before or looked in her mouth, said she reviewed records and my daughter needed a crown on that baby tooth. She was not the dentist that developed the original treatment plan and could not tell me who saw my child last time. She just kept saying she was a "pediatric dentist". Aren't they all there? I was thrown back and just asked to not have services completed and that I would find another dentist. That dentist never saw my child, and made assumptions before taking her back to even look. This isn't the first run in with them I've had. Last time it was billing issues. I called 4 other pediatric dentists offices today and none of them, not one has this COVID policy in place! At least one parent is allowed on with a minor If screening is passed formCOVID. I felt like I was being bullied and it was not handled well. It was like the dentist was present only to assert her authority. Whomever owns this place needs to have discussions with your staff. I asked last week to speak to a dentist or someone in charge about my concerns as well as provide a letter from her therapist explaining her anxiety. I was told that didn't need to happen. My daughter had a very bad experience as the dentist left my daughter in pain with a dangling cracked tooth because it was 11:50 am and they close for lunch at noon. They also lied and stated they called to receive payment before pulling the tooth and they did not. It's very upsetting that they did not tell the truth when I called to inquire and lunch was more important than taking care of their patent. I will NOT return! read more

Unfortunately, after 10 years of going here, I am no longer a customer. With the pandemic going on, I understand that there are many changes to how we now attend appointments. Temperature checks and Mask are not a problem. My biggest problem was their new policy with not allowing at least 1 parent to go back with their child. Parents must stay in the car. My 7 year old daughter and I found that extremely uncomfortable as she needed support for a tooth extraction. Going to the dentist for any reason can be very scary for some kids and the thought of them going back there by themselves is crazy. While on the phone with the receptionist, I could here young kids crying and screaming in the background. After calling around a few other Children Dentistry, they ALL allowed at least one parent to go back with their child for support. read more

The Mint Hill location is fabulous. I would have not gone if I read the reviews first but none of the complaints that happened years ago happened to me. The dentist introduced herself when she first came in. They explained to me the difference in prices with laughing gas. My daughter never complained about pain. I think that the shared space helps the kids be more mature to not act out. Yes, I received a bill afterwards for $20 and yes, they made sure that I knew that I had a balance every time I spoke to them. It's fine. The plans are estimates. I'd rather owe them than them owe me given the reviews. read more

We visited the Waxhaw location. And it was okay for us all the fancy gadgets for the kids which any dentist would have but while we were in the lobby we witness them turn away a family that came in with three kids because they were exactly 14 minutes late. Apparently they have a 10 minute policy or something. And I understand having a policy but the dentists were running behind, they were at least 10 minutes behind themselves so to turn them away what kind of ridiculous. Seems like they would want their business. So that mother, rightfully so, asked for all three sets of dental records for kids. And then they took her in the back I guess to be quiet and give her the records but everybody knew what she was doing. Just seems like a little shady business practices to me I doubt we'll be back. I wish I could give zero stars..they deserve it! I WILL NOT Recommend IT!!!Yesterday August 08, 2017 I took my son to apply dental sealance on his molars (as the doctor recommended in his semi-annual dental appointment two weeks ago) and it was a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I understand that they have to use equipment and machines in order to do their work, but what was unacceptable for me is that they do not have all the materials ready that they need, neither the right people to work with kids. The assistant started to put the oxygen/anesthesia and the device to keep his mouth open, She did not have the material ready on the plate that they use, she had to go grab them, meanwhile my son was uncomfortable with the device in his mouth, once she started she continues grabbing material from the cabinets and during the process, my son got a wound that looks like a burn mark (caused by some acid or chemical they used) on the left side below his lips. With a BURN MARK and when we finally thought it was over, the doctor came and she said that they needed to apply sealance on one more tooth, (that was not on the list, so that means the doctor forgot to put it) and once again they had to put the oxygen/anesthesia and the device to keep his mouth open and apply the sealant again (with a burn mark). When the doctor arrived (she was in a hurry), I let her know my concerns and disappointment and she apologized and rubbed gauze with water (rough) on the wound which just made it worse. read more

Then received a balance bill for remainder. I have called no less than 4 times to get answers and each time get told someone will have to call me back. Billing manager reached out and told me she would speak to insurance and get back with me. Still waiting on the phone to ring three weeks later. Been taking my daughter here since she was three. The staff has always made her feel safe and comfortable during cleanings and procedures, not to mention they have always been very kind and polite. Took my daughter in yesterday for small cavity treatment from the beginning I felt I was discriminated for not having an insurance and paying out of pocket for her treatment since they knew that funds are limited .when doctor entered the room she without examining my daughters cavity was telling me she might have to refer her to someone else.so that was red flag for me right away .my daughter was given nitro and numbing shot which she sat through no problem .so since she didn't give them reason to refuse treatment /which they probably didn't expect/they start shoving huge plastic piece into her mouth which I have never seen before .it was so huge it would not fit into her mouth so when she complained doctor got up left the room for 15-20 min and came back telling me she was terminating treatment and refered me to another doctor /remember I said without examining she warned me upfront/they charged me 60$ for wasting my time .if no insurance they treat u as second hand citizen .I thought all day yesterday something in whole process was not right I will contact corporate and BBB because it's not ok what happened yesterday read more

They are great for normal check-ups. Fun playtime atmosphere for the kids. They are very poor at keeping the parent's educated and informed of the treatment options for their children when further treatment is required. They showed me a statement of charges and hidden in the description was nitrous treatment. I had no clue that actually meant laughing gas for my daughter for a small simple cavity. She has had cavities filled before at their office and never had laughing gas. I am not comfortable with her being given this with out a full explanation and my option of saying no. They only way I found out about it was when I received a past due bill (even though it is the first bill I received) that the gas was not covered by insurance. Even on the bill, it was just listed as D22. When I called the office they were more concerned that I signed the statement of charges and that I needed to pay the bill rather than the fact that I felt mislead, forced and uninformed about this treatment option. read more

I would not recommend using this dentist. They are out to make money and will charge you even for services not performed. I had to fight over a month to receive a refund for services that were not performed but charged at 100%. To make matters worth, I told the receptionist when we were leaving the practice that nothing happen because my daughter got so scared and she promised that nothing would get charged to my card, but 1 day later $289 got posted to my account and only returned partially 40 days later after a lot of fighting and reporting to the BBB. It was our first time visiting the S tryon office and from the start it was a negative experience. I went with my 10 month old and we waited in the waiting area for 45 minutes before I had to go ask for an eta as my little one was getting fussy (it was about his naptime which I conveyed when scheduling the appointment to begin with but it was the earliest appt available). so after asking for an eta I was taken back to the exam room so the hygienist could go ahead and clean his teeth. No one, not a single person at this office introduced themselves nor were they friendly. I would think if you are working with kids you would make an attempt to be friendly. Either way they proceeded to have my little one lay on the table while they "cleaned" his teeth which took all of about 20 seconds then I was left to wait for the doctor. There was a tv on that was just playing the intro to a movie over and over. i finally went out to ask if someone could either play the movie or turn it off because it was driving us crazy. about 15 minutes later the doctor comes in, again NO introduction. She just asks me to lay my son on the table so she can apply flouride. She does so, which takes about 30 seconds and then says ok you're good to go. No explanation of good hygiene for this age or what i should be doing. I had to ask about what I should be doing or anything to be on the lookout for. Then as we were leaving the exam room she finally decides to introduce herself. Really? that would have been nice at the beginning of our interaction. I was then told to go to the "orange" room to schedule his next appointment. So i went to the orange room and waited another 5 minutes because no one was in there (again Ive got a sleepy baby) and no one seemed to be concerned or have someone come in to assist in making the appointment. So I walked out. Will not be coming back. Worst dental appointment ever, and ive spend A LOT of time at the dentist since I was a child. Poor practice and poor people skills. And i've heard horror stories about the billing so I'm looking forward to that. read more
