Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - ordered a Young Chow Fried Rice (large) and a Young Chow's Special Chicken (small) with fried rice. We were surprised since the two to-go boxes weren't that different in size but the chicken came with the whole box of rice and a separate container for chicken. When we ordered the fried rice we were thinking it was Youngzhou (Yeung Chow or Yang Chow) fried rice which is a egg fried rice with mixed vegetables, scallions, shrimp, and char siu (roasted pork). While it had some of the components, it was not very well seasoned and the proteins were not seasoned. The chicken was decent and the serving size was great! Service: 5/5 - friendly. We asked about the size for the lunch special and the cashier mentioned it was closer to the small size for the food but that it came with a side and a soup/salad. Ambiance: n/a - ordered food to go so we didn't see much of the restaurant Value for price: 4/5 - depends on the dish you get. We've gotten carry out twice from here so far and while it's definitely different from what we are used to, the food is pretty good. The first time we got the pepper steak and cashew chicken lunch combos. Both had the same dark sauce, which is tasty, and the dishes were not skimpy or overly huge. They came with soup, 3 crab cheese wontons and fried rice. The mains were delicious. The hot and sour soup was overly sweet, but not bad. The fried rice, while a little bland, was still good, as we like to mix it in with our mains, so the flavors balanced out. We also had some fried dumplings which had mixed reviews from us, while my wife loved them, I thought they were tasty but had way too much wrapper compared to the small amount of filling. The crab cheese wontons, while tasty, were the smallest we have ever seen anywhere. The only thing I highly disliked was the price tag for everything. It was $40! $14 for each plate and $10 for the dumplings. To me, this is way overpriced, especially for the dumplings, since you only get 5. Even with that, we still enjoyed the meal. If the plates were bigger and dumplings were stuffed better, I could probably give them a higher rating. For the second visit, it was my wife's birthday, and she wanted their dumplings again(no change from last time) and also wanted to try the Beef with scallions. I got the large dinner, which is $20. The dinner is definitely more significant in size and it was enough for two people. It came with a larger soup than the lunch plate, a large fried rice and a large main but only one egg roll. This time we got the egg drop soup and it was eggs-cellent.. so was the beef with scallions and we were satisfied with the portions. While the interaction with staff was minimal, they were definitely friendly both times and made sure to include utensils and sauce. How it's the superior Asian cuisine restaurant in the Beckley-Southern WV area... after waiting twenty minutes for drinks, over an hour for our food, and being completely confused with the menu selection and wording, we finally got to leave after forking over well above a hundred dollars for subpar food. The salad was great, I'll give them that, and the wonton soup too, but the entrees.... disappointing. Wasabi Fusion is way better, SO MUCH CHEAPER, and you get double the food. Close to the interstate, but a little puzzling if you're unfamiliar with the area. However, once you're there you'll find a large building with ample parking adorned with hints of Asian architecture. The inside is authentic with seating sections accommodating everyone from couples to big groups. It's somehow classy and casual at the same time. The restaurant is well maintained, clean, and even has a Hibachi & Sushi area. The chef is cooking fresh food and can adjust to suit anyone's dietary needs. I really enjoyed the complimentary fried wonton chips! Vegetarian options are not so obvious, some veg dishes still contain fish sauce. Make sure you ask before you order. read more

I have always enjoyed the food from Young Chow's, but this was the first night that we ordered close to closing time. It was Saturday night and we ordered at 8:24, and they closed at 10 PM. The food was not nasty but it was not close to what it normally is it seemed like it was rushed and there was not a lot of flavor. A few weeks before we had ordered the Chinese fried dumplings that looked almost like Bao and tonight we got what look like fried Gyoza. All of the dishes were lacking flavor from the rice to the noodles to the mains. It was all around disappointing and make me regret the $57 we spent. I have never had the quality of the food be like that in the 10 years I've been eating there. Just very disappointed will not go again near closing. read more

This place seems to be out in the middle of nowhere but it is worth the drive put if Beckley and they have a drive through window which allows you to get your egg roll fix without getting out of the car! My wife had their pineapple chicken and while most other Chinese places bread their chicken and then Add sauce and pineapple this place doesn't bread or fry their chicken before adding it which makes it slightly healthier and adds to the taste mixture. My family had been coming to Young Chow's for almost 30 years -- all the way back when they had a place at the Crossroads Mall and for a short time before that at their original location. The ambience and decor inside is beautiful. Their item selection off their menu offers something for everyone... from your typical Special Chicken or Sweet and Sour to Hibachi Grill and Sushi with many choices in between. Their food is always good and fresh and made to order. Their wait staff is extremely efficient- almost to a fault because of how quickly you are served your meal. They have a full bar, but not the ones where you go and get your own food.
