Couldn't/Wouldn't give an estimate over the phone. Doesn't charge an hourly service rate like good professionals do... Instead uses a "Flat Rate." and won't disclose what that rate is or based off of. To me, a Flat Rate would be a flat hourly service rate. Apparently they charge per piece of the job regardless of actual time it takes to do it and call that a "Flat Rate." $545 for less than 1.5 hours of labor using $100 or less (my estimate since they wouldn't break down the pricing for me). I won't call them again since in my opinion the cost should have only been $180 labor, $100 (or less) parts, $40 removal fee (they did tell me how much to remove my old unit which I agreed to, shocker) for a grand total of $320, so I was overcharged $225! read more

Although this company was prompt in sending out a tech their prices were ASTRONOMICAL! I would not recommend them, they weren't able to give you any sort of rough estimate over the phone(even though the city gas company informed us exactly what needed to be replaced) this was clearly price gouging at its finest. Had an appointment set up since last week to do warranty repairs on a hot water heater at my parents home. They did not have hot water for almost a week, and was waiting for parts coming in from the manufacture. The appointment was for today between 11 AM and 1 PM. They called my number numerous times to verify for today's appointment, I found this ad due to the fact that all this was already scheduled since last week. They called my phone six times, and I did not answer because I was working midnights and I was sleeping. Woke up called and they gave the slot away to another customer, I was very upset and very irate at this because I consider this being unprofessional if a client is set up for an appointment that company should honor their clients appointment time and date. This person went on and on saying that I didn't answer my phone I didn't answer my phone, but I told her that I worked midnights, and I was sleeping three times and yet she ignored it, so this is why I'm writing this negative review on Young plumbing. If this is how they conduct business with me, I can just imagine how they deal with other customers. read more

So, I called Young Plumbing to replace a thermostat in my water heater....the fat employee spent all of 5 minutes looking at it, and then told me I needed a new water heater.......$1800......and guess what.. this water heater is only 3 months old......charged me $40...probably so he could stuff his fat face.....never again!!! read more

We have had Young Plumbing out several times and have always had very good service. A couple of times the fixes were really simple and they have always charged a fair price, and we have not felt like we were over charged. If they can, they will save you money. I called Young Plumbing to install my new dishwasher and kitchen faucet. [I had removed the old dishwasher for them]. 2 plumbers arrived and quoted me 2-3 hours for $765. INSANE! I expressed how angry and disappointed I was in this quote. The job took one hour and 10 minutes (I timed it). I also called the main office and they had no interest in my complaint!! I repeatedly asked for a breakdown of the charges but the plumbers did not give me any detailed costs. The price dropped from $760 to $640 to $485 for a job that should have never been more than $250. I have discussed this with many neighbors and friends and all agree this was a total RIP-OFF. If your a senior living on a fixed income DON'T call Young Plumbing!!!. NIPSCO was out fixing a leak outside my home and I asked them to check my basement because my NIPSCO bills recently went up. The man found a couple very small leaks in a 10 foot pipe noting where exactly they were. He shut off my gas until I could get a Plummer out to fix the leaks. I called Young Plumbing in the afternoon on a Thursday they came out heehawed about all the problems my gas pipes held and told me it would cost $1060.00 they wanted another $325.00 to test all my pilots for leaks, I told them I was on a fixed income and that would cost to much and declined the $325. test. It took the men a half hour to replaced a 10 foot black pipe, a coupling and a joiner. Now I know that black pipe is expensive and labor is usually one to two times the cost of material, but $1060!!!!! I would NEVER call this company again. I feel as though they totally took advantage of me. It was not a holiday, not a weekend, nor was it after hours they just knew I needed it fixed to get my gas turned back on and seen a single elderly woman to take advantage of. The man also sat around for around hour complaining about NIPSCO and the way the world is ran. read more

I give them 2 stars for coming to our rescue with short notice. My hot water heater was looked at and was told I needed an replacement costing over $1,000 dollars. The water heater was replaced by them around 13-15 yrs ago. I had another company come out and it was just a wire replacement and a cleaning. This place just want to replace and get paid. Woke up to a hissing sound from my basement and found an old pipe with a leak spraying all over. Turns out I had one of those "saddle valve" thingys that apparently always turn into a problem eventually. Young came out when it was convenient for me, and in no time I was rid of the saddle valve and had a safe, reliable pipe back in its place. The guys were just great and everything was super clean when they left. Young Plumbing replaced a hose bib at the rear of my house for the amazing price of $245 for 15 minutes of actual work. I needed it done so I could use my water hose this summer. It was so easy to replace the broken bib. I wish I was able to do it myself. I am a disabled veteran on a fixed income. They did take $20.00 off the original cost because I am a senior citizen. Tony and Shane responded and discovered the main sewer was blocked. After several attempts and a lot of hard work, Tony was able to break through whatever was blocking the line. Dont waste your time and money. We called out the "professionals" because our rodding attempts only resolved our issue for a week and our sink was clogged again and again after just a few days, I informed them of this and they still charged me 225 for rodding. Said that would fix it and I was adamant that it was not a permanent resolution and needed them to find the issue and fix it. Sure enough 1 week later it was clogged. When I called they stated they wouldn't know if there was a bigger issue unless they rodded first and that was step one for them so they saisI would have to pay for another visit. Very unprofessional please use a company that will look for and resolve the issue not disregard what you are telling them and charge you 225 dollars for you to end up with ZERO resolution. Well every company has good and bad reviews but, I got to tell ya. It's been raining almost everyday for the last three weeks so, every call to a plumber is 911 call. Unfortunately, mine was no different. I must've called 10-15 other plumbing companies and they were at least 2-5 days out. One guy was supposed to come out at 8:15 but, when he didn't call. I decided to call these guys. (The other guy had horrible reviews but, I needed a plumber right away so...) My sump pump had gone out and I had 1-1/2-2 feet of water in my drop down crawl space. I called them and they were out in 45 minutes. Tom was glad to see that it wasn't a bunch of mud and muck. He put his watters on and jumped in down there. He picked up the old pump by the pvc pipe ( he was replacing that pvc anyway) Apparently my brother in law didn't use any pvc cement when he placed the last one because it all came apart. He replaced the pump and put in a check valve ( because my brother in law never put one in either) Not just any check valve either.It's called a magic check valve and has a 1/2 lb spring on it so that it doesn't slam shut and sounds like someone is breaking in your house...... Anyway great job guys! The prompt service said it all to me as I said many companies were far too booked up or didn't respond at all. Thanks for being so responsive in a desperate situation. They are far and few between with plumbers. As again they are all over booked with this rain. Hence, the 5 stars. You guys deserve it. read more

Mike and Tom came to my home to replace my pump reservoir, which had developed a leak after several years. Their work was fine, but my issues began after they finished. My pump/well is under my house, yet at job completion, while Mike and I talked near the well Tom entered my home and spent at least 10 minutes unescorted. When I confronted him, exiting my home, I asked him why it was necessary that he enter my home. His response, "I was looking for you guys". He knew very well where we were but failed to be honest why he was in my home. Bear in mind I am a 69 year old widow, so I am a bit paranoid, but having a workman enter my home, with no just cause, is unacceptable. I called the office to report this intrusion and asked for a Supervisor but was told none was available. I then asked for Tom's name so that I could eventually tell someone at the company that I found his behavior unacceptable. The woman at the office was adamant that "we don't offer the last name of our workers." I eventually called the police to report this intrusion and was assured this type of behavior was not within the norm of regular business practices. Workmen serving the public need to be more sensitive to people's privacy preferences, and companies hiring those workmen need to be proactive. This experience tells me Young Plumbing is used to hearing complaints about Tom, or even Mike, who quite possibly served as a lookout while Tom was in my home. NEVER AGAIN. I called Young Plumbing due to having a backup in my basement. They came within an hour and assessed that it was the sewer injector pump that was the problem. Since my house was fairly new, they told me it should be covered under my warranty and did not want to take my money. I appreciated the advice. I called the plumber in my warranty and also checked my warranty and the injector pump was not even listed as covered. I called Young back and asked if the guys could come back and fix whatever the problem was. They did and it ended up being a blockage in the pipes. They got the blockage cleared, and checked to make sure my pump was working as it should. I would recommend Young to anyone who has a plumbing problem. Thanks. read more

Young's fIxed a leaking toilet about 18 months ago. Job was done ok, but the quote was extremely high for a basic, quick job. When I questioned it, the plumber immediately took off a percentage, which was a big red flag to me and made me feel like they were seeing what they could get away with. They took the old out (which was pretty beat up and leaking) did not get any water on floor. Installer was nice enough to change code to save $50 but replaced a valve and 12" of copper cost $345....parts about $30, took 35 mins. Like the workmanship but way over price. Friendly service, but expensive and not thorough. I had a Tom come out and was very polite and joying. I gave him a list from the NIPSCO technician who had came out to detect where the gas leaks were. Tom read over the list and verbalized that he understood, and quoted me a price of $540 for everything. Tom changed the gas connection behind the stove and a connection leaving the furnace. Time in house, roughly 20 minutes start to finish. Tom left and upon checking what everything looked like, I noticed HALF of the list from the NIPSCO person was not done. I called Young Plumbing, who put me in touch with Tom, and he stated it would be ANOTHER service charge of $40 just to come out, and additional cost for whatever he had to do. Had them come out to check for an intermittent leak. They insisted there was no leak. Had them change the shower head arm to a knew one that I had bought, less than 5 minutes of work, and was charged 150 dollars for That. Seriously overpriced. Then the next day more water leaks. Had another plumber look and found a leak in the kitchen sink pipes. Don't hire young plumbing, check thumbtack for a plumber, you will get better plumbers, better service, and much better prices. read more
