I usually get smogs by work but I have my sister's old car on my driveway and found out that I had forgotten to renew the registration and needed a last minute smog check. Failed my first test because the battery had died and the computer didn't have the necessary data. This cost me around $30 but I was told I could come back for a free reinspection and just pay the $10 or so fee to send the report to the DMV. I also got some directions for the most efficient way to get the data needed. Came back a couple days later and passed the smog check. Both times I was in and out in five/ten minutes. Smog Check usually an easy process. You take your car in, hand over the letter from DMV to the technician, and they run the test and report. And usually smog check experience as easy as that. He kindly greets you, quickly guide you to test area, and explains how much it's going to be and how long it will take. Test was done in about 5 minutes, paid with credit card, and I was already pulling out of the garage. This is probably the best smog test experience anyone can get, even though process is already simple as it can be. Before you head out of the garage, he handed me a cold bottle of water and Korean chocolate pie snack "Choco Pie". Came across this place the other day, looking for a Smog check location near my house. I was surprised at the sheer number of 5-star reviews that this place had received, and figured I should check them out! I drive a German car with a diesel engine, which sadly did not pass the first time I went, due to some of the emissions control sensors not being in a ready state. John, the owner, was exceptionally patient with me. He explained the steps I needed to take in order to complete a drive cycle, which is a rather complex procedure where you need to drive at a certain speed for half an hour or more, along with some other steps.
