You can tell they really work with the patients and seem very involved in helping them get stronger and back on their feet. The facility is on the smaller side, but honestly, I think that's a good thing. It feels more personal and like the patients can get more one-on-one attention instead of feeling like they're just one of many. Looking for a place for family can be stressful, but we left the tour feeling really good about Brentwood and especially the therapy program. Definitely worth checking out if physical therapy and more personal care are important to you.

Please tell that unprofessional B**** when an elderly man is dying and his wife of 38 years is crying on his shoulder, keep her mouth shut. She was patching up his other arm, cancer patients bleed easily. I was not in her way nor did she say I was. However, she said, disgustedly, how insensitive my crying was and she was surprised I hadn't been asked to leave. Yes, seriously. Our first experience when he wasn't as sick, I wrote positive things. We had to return when his illness progressed and were treated completely different. My tip is, if your loved one is recovering from a broken bone, or similar ailment this place is fine. If your loved one is unable to defend themselves against abusive staff, you do not want to come here. And yes, Andrea was only abusive to me. One woman in mind stands out because she is rude and unprofessional and her name is "Sarah". She doesn't wear a badge but I asked one of the aides who she was after she left my room. She barged in one day without knocking, was speaking so loud as if I were deaf. When she left my room she started talking to someone in Spanish in the hallway and they both started laughing, loud. It felt and sounded like she was mocking me. I know when she's around because that's all she does is laugh and the whole building hears it. It's a free country, sure, be happy. But it's over the top and unprofessional when that's all you do especially at the expense of the residents you're supposed to be taking care of. Don't other staff hear or say anything to her? Poor management. If they can't handle something as simple as customer and professionalism, what more other more serious issues? The food is terrible and usually late. Coffee takes forever to be served. My clothes have gone missing. I suppose this is typical for most places like this. But the loud, crazy constant laughing is not. "Sarah" must think this place is a joke, or that her job is. I don't recommend and made a mistake coming here. If you google places like this in the area, you'll be surprised to know there are about 6 within a few blocks of each other that you should probably look into instead.

From the…read moremoment I (nervously) walked in, I could tell that the staff genuinely cared about what I was going thru and wanted me to get well. They made me instantly feel welcomed and comfortable, and throughout my stay I grew even more appreciative for the compassion and skill level of the staff. Their approach is very holistic and expands far beyond just the 12 steps. We learned meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, acupuncture, among many other things. The therapists are the best I've ever spoken with. I had 2 assigned to me including a trauma therapist who helped me work through issues I had never really spoken about with anyone before, helping connect my childhood trauma with my substance abuse issues, and giving me the tools to deal with it. The house is very spacious and comfortable with a giant pool and hot tub, and we had time to relax and match movies and hang out. I laughed a lot with the other clients and had more fun than I ever would have imagined in rehab and made new friends that I've continued to stay friends with after leaving. Beyond just getting clean, the Villa gave me the breakthroughs and tools I needed to stay sober and taught me how to enjoy life, laugh, and have fun without needing alcohol and for that I'm forever grateful. I checked out of the Villa a completely different person, ready to take on the world. Don't think twice about going here if you're in need of help!

Even after your stay is completed. They ACTUALLY CARE. Every other place that I know or have worked with has some sort of monetary incentive, but the Villa is only recovery center in the COUNTY that genuinely wants to help people get sober and have amazing futures. From the moment you pick up the phone, you are part of the family...even when you graduate. I would say 95% of the programs in LA and maybe even the entire state of California are at least somewhat corrupt and only looking to make money. It's shocking what happens in this industry, especially when it's supposed to be saving lives. I'm here due severe weakness from lying down while sick. I receive OT/PT 5 days and they make it fun. I get a true work out, good food according to Dr.'s instructions. Late night healthy snack for those who fall asleep late. This is the most patient and professional staff I've seen that work 24/7 without a drop of laziness while some facilities are known for sleeping. She loves her nurse, the food and she's very happy. When she did research on recovery places this one came the highest rated for her insurance. Having said that I said let's give this a shot as it was very different from the cold concrete walls of even your nicest rehabs. At this point nothing else had worked so what did I have to loose? Through my time at MBRC I learned a lot and that life had so much more to it and maybe it was the what I thought was a crazy diet or the constant yoga which I tended to make excuses about doing or just the fresh ocean air. This was the first time I was in an intimate rehab setting there was maybe 6 or 8 of us which was quite refreshing because you were truly in this together. From Joan, to chef Johnny, heather, Tony and many more who I am forgetting almost 12 years later I was sent out into this new world with a new outlook. This new world though was something different than I had ever done, i agreed to stay in California temporarily and live in MBRC sober living in Brentwood and attend outpatient for as long as I could. I had always been against sober livings because in my experience it was like living in a crackhouse but not here. From the simplest thing of house manager Janine who worked multiple jobs aside from that trust me to take care of her dog Mia. I was able to heal and learn how to live and be a responsible adult, idk but I truly believe that connection me and that little dog made in the next year taught me to be gentle and kind and loving. From the outpatient services provided by stacy and DR i don't remember his name but he was awesome to the lifelong friends I made living in that house for almost a year. I was able to slowly acclimate back into the real world. Here we are in 2026 almost 12 years later to the date and I'm still sober and still in Los Angeles. If anybody told me 12 years ago that would be my life I would tell you that's your NUTS! I was watching an IG story from Chef Johnny today who has become one of the most sought after celebrity chefs in La and it made me think of MBRC. I thought I knew it closed but I started googling and saw this yelp page with limited reviews some good some bad but more importantly it said closed. Since that is the case maybe this review is more for me and to share my gratitude for the day. As the years goes on and life becomes life sometimes I forget to do that so maybe this is the grounding moment I needed today. There's a book I recommend for insight: Alcoholism and Addiction Cure. The book was written by the founders and lays the foundations of the program. You're treated like an adult--free to use your phone, stay in touch, and even order food if the meals don't suit you (though they're surprisingly decent). I left early due to insurance costs, but I regret doing so. This place is worth the investment in yourself.

The intake was handled by a very well meaning information, but despite comments that they could accommodate people with a wide range of concerns, it has become clear with our conversations with them that income and liability are their only concerns. Delay after delay was given to us as a need to "consult with the team" with no details about what might be the concerns or what we could do to assuage those concerns. I would highly recommend talking to a trained therapist or mental health professional before considering this facility as a legitimate way to get help. Based on our experience this feels like a place that will only take on clients that are high net worth and zero risk.

After 23 years of abusing alcohol and not dealing with my depression, I decided to check myself in to Alo. From the initial phone consultation I knew I had made the right decision. They had a driver named Mike who met me at the airport and helped ease my mind and answered my many questions on the drive to Malibu. Once I got to the Alo detox house over looking the Pacific Ocean, I was put at ease by the friendly staff and councillors, ( many of whom had some experience with recovery themselves). This was an extremely emotional time for me as I realized I would be getting to the core of my problems with Alcohol and depression over the following month, but not once did I feel it unsafe to discuss any and all topics with the amazing staff, therapists and psychologists. At the next phase my lodging was in a giant mansion with all the amenities including a pool and 24 hour staff on call to help with any issues. There was an absolute dream team of chefs who made all types of delicious meals to suite any and all dietary restrictions. Can't say enough good things about how well I was fed throughout my stay. The daily programming covered a wide variety of courses and the group discussions were where I found some of the most comfort and solidified some great friendships with other clients. Jared and Evan have created an amazing thing down there in Malibu and I hope they are aware of the impact they've had on many lives, including mine. All I can say is thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all the staff, councillors, and therapists at Alo House. I just received my 3 month chip ( the longest duration of sobriety I've had in 23 years) and Im slowly getting my life back in order. This place is nothing more than a trap house staffed by individuals that look like they're still in their active meth addiction. Either that or they don't offer their staff dental health benefits because half of them are missing teeth, and look like they just arrived from the nearest homeless shelter. It's dingy, the common areas are carpeted, it's dark, and filthy. Their idea of a 'luxury' private room with king size bed was adjoining two queen size beds together. And they couldn't even do that properly as there was nothing keeping them attached. Therefore you can fall right down the middle. Pathetic. One staff member not only used expletives like a pirate but also managed to call me a Masshole (cause I'm from Massachusetts), only to then give me tips on how to tell good meth from bad meth! Having driven 6 hours to this dump I thought it best to spend the night since it was already dark outside. But first thing in the morning bright and early I was out of there. Though they didn't make it easy. They begged me to please stay even offering to walk my dogs (I brought with me) on my behalf and even take them to the dog park multiple times a day. There I was thinking to myself, 'I don't trust you with MY well-being much less my dogs well-being'! And so I left and hightailed it back to my home. I didn't think a place like this could exist in Malibu, but what this taught me is that even in Malibu one has to do their due diligence in researching a facility. I have since then heard from other individuals that this is a 'body broker' type of place. If you don't know what a 'body broker' is, Google it. Essentially it's when they pay (in one form or another) for someone to get high/use so they can bring them in and charge their health insurance. Alternatively it can also manifest as specifically seeking those in active addiction (regardless of their wanting to get sober or not) and paying/convincing them (one way or another) to come in; and as you may have already guessed: charge their health insurance. It is because of places like Oceanside Malibu that the recovery industry needs to be much more stringently regulated. A place like this dump should not be legally allowed to exist.
