    BUILD YOUR OWN PIZZA
    Valarie J.

I'm visiting for work and needed a quick bite. You can build pizza, pasta, or salad. I picked a 10 inch pizza. You pick the bread, sauce, and toppings. I ordered wheat, marinara, fresh & shredded moz, banana peppers, jalapeños, spinach, and pepperoni. They gave me a number to wait. I waited about 5-10 minutes and it was done. Overall it was a good pie and they had plenty of toppings. The seating is fairly limited but definitely a good quick option.

Nothing beats Your Pie when in Blacksburg. Though I absolutely love the Great White pizza, the build your own is always a perfect option. The baked pastas (not pictured) are also super delicious! Always super clean and a great place to grab a bite to eat. Everyone is so friendly and kind!

Southern heat with green peppers, no jalapenos.

I really enjoyed trying the pizza here and think this place will be really successful judging by the crowds present there when I went. I had the southern heat pizza with ranch and substituted in green peppers for the jalapenos. The pizza was tasty and I liked the buffalo sauce they used for the base. My only complaints (which I am sure will get cleared up as they train employees and improve the customer experience) are that the process was slow and not very efficient. I could compare this place to Mod Pizza, and they seem to have the process down better. Additionally, the finished pizzas had lots of extra corn meal on them. I think they could use less so that the final pizzas aren't too dry/messy. Overall, I loved trying this place and enjoyed the diversity in what they offer! They have gelato, paninis, and other options, so definitely give it a try if you're looking for something new in Blacksburg.

Great White Pizza and Caesar Salad

Great little pizza shop! Ate here twice in my 5 night stay so that's saying something! The dough is fresh, stretched by hand when you order. All topping are included in the $8.49 price, so load up on whatever you're craving! Pizzas are roughly 10", again they're stretched by hand, but you get 6 slices per pie. Their chopped salads are massive. Easily could be split by 2 adults for dinner, or feed 4 when served as a side salad. Just like their pies, all topping are included in the price! Dressings are served on the side, not tossed in the salad. All in all, great place, great people, great food!

    BYO pizzas

I absolutely looove this place!! It's the pizza version of Chipotle where you can build your own pizza or select from one of their predesigned options. The service line was super fast and efficient, the ingredients all looked fresh (they flatten out the dough in front of you!), and the pizza came out hot and in good time. Since you can pick whatever ingredients you want (it seems there's no limit?), you can't go wrong! Their crusts are quite thin though (which I love, so no complaints here), so if you prefer thicker crusts, I'm not sure if they have that as an option. One personal pizza was enough for me, but I'm rather small, so you might have to add some sides (cheese sticks?), gelato, or even a whole other pie, so it can get pricey if you have a bigger appetite.

It seems like the crust has changed recently. Pizza is crust heavy with too much bread and not enough sauce/topping.

Skimpy toppings, not enough sauce to even cover the crust. White pizza was okay. Just too expensive for what it is.

Not Your Mama's Pasta started out at the Blacksburg Farmers Market and ended up opening a brick and mortar store due to their popularity. They offer Roman styled pizzas and handmade pastas. The eatery is located in downtown Blacksburg and parking could be tricky. The size of the restaurant is also not super large, so keep that in mind. I do appreciate the ambiance of the interior though. The service is always quick and very friendly as well! Their Roman styled pizzas are decent, but the pasta is definitely the star of the show here! Roman pizza uses fermented dough, making the texture more like a focaccia. However, it isn't the same as a Sicilian styled pizza. The pizza isn't the best Roman pizza I've had, but it ins't bad at all. Now the pasta is the real star of the show here! All of their pasta is handmade with local ingredients and ingredients imported from Italy. The quality of the ingredients really enhances the flavors of their dishes. The pasta is quite rich, the noodles are cooked al dante, and the sauces burst with flavors. I have ordered several pasta dishes including the Cacio e Pepe, Pistachio Cacio e Pepe, and the Carbonara. All three were absolutely amazing! The Cacio e Pepe includes pecorino and black pepper, with a luscious, creamy sauce. The Pistachio Cacio e Pepe includes pecorino, black pepper, and pistachios that are blended into the sauce. This too is a very good dish, full of great flavor. The Carbonara was my favorite with bacon, egg yolk, pecorino, and black pepper. This dish was rich and heavier, but in the best way. There were ample amounts of bacon, balanced out with the egg yolk and tangy cheese. I would recommend any of their pasta dishes any day of the week! Overall, Not Your Mama's Pasta is a wonderful establishment here in Blacksburg. They offer a nice variety of authentic Italian dishes ranging from pastas to Roman pizzas. I have not been disappointed with anything I have ordered from here. Everything is made with high quality ingredients too. I really enjoy ordering from here and look forward to returning!

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

We've been looking forward to trying some local eats since I'll be in town on business for a few days. But after the long day and delays on the road, we were exhausted. The waitress tried to pressure us into feeling back for giving her over 10% tip stating she expected 20%. M'am respectfully, if you don't do anything beyond your job why do you expect 20%?! Last I checked, tips were meant as a bonus for doing an exceptional job. Just dropping off our food with a smile or taking our order with a smile is the bare minimum when you're in a service oriented job. Not sure when people started becoming so entitled, but if you received a tip worthy of the work you did that should be enough. Definition of what a tip should be: A tip (or gratuity) is a voluntary, discretionary sum of money given by a customer to a service worker (e.g., servers, barbers, valets) as a token of appreciation for a service performed, over and above the base price. Overall, food was good. The staff just made a scene and made everyone at the table feel uncomfortable. It was a party of 4 we got a few drinks and appetizers I think in total we spent like $60. So it's not like it was a gigantic group and she was working her arse off.

The person making my food was not wearing gloves, which is not sanitary, and I did not observe him washing his hands before preparing it. So far I have tried the lamb over rice, spicy pasta, calzones and the pizza. The pizza and the calzone are fine, but I've gotten sick from the pasta both of the times that I have tried it, and the small amount of shrimp for the massive portion of pasta made me a little sad. The lamb over rice was alright, but I found the portion of meat was pretty small, which was the best part of the dish, and the lettuce was wilted and some pieces were brown and slimy so I had to pick them out. All their food is ridiculously greasy, which is great if that's what you are looking for, but I personally prefer my food with a little less oil. There is very limited seating and is very cramped, so be prepared to take it home and eat it. The wait times can be a little long, so definitely order online beforehand.
