I've driven past this place a thousand times thinking nothing of it. I definitely judged a book by its cover with location. Recently got some pea puffers and was in need of snails to feed them. I walked in and was immediately taken back by all of the tanks in the store. Tons of really well taken care of BEAUTIFUL bettas. And lots of happy fish. I spoke with the worker asking if he can source a specific fish for me and he gave me some really great info and I'll be reaching back out to them soon about it. Before leaving, he handed me the bag of snails and said he didn't have much left and that I could take the for free. Such a super kind gesture. Have a feeling I'll be a regular here. I've gone to this shop twice and they are so helpful and accommodating! First time I bought a pleco that has grown quite a bit and is really happy. Lol. Definitely a pet parent right? A couple weeks ago I went back to purchase a betta but after learning my aquarium had only been cycling for 4 days he sent me home with goldfish to assist with the needed beneficial bacteria. No charge!!! Wow. Who does that? Well they have a customer for life now...and I plan to pay it forward by returning these fish so someone else can also benefit. Its a small place in a strip mall but they have fresh and saltwater fish. They don't have a large selection of aquarium decor but the fish are healthy and the service is professional and much appreciated. Masks are required. Gotta respect that. read more

This place is the absolute best fish store in the area. The staff/owners are so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Their selection of fish is great (freshwater and saltwater) and they're able to order most any type that you're looking for. Their fish and tanks are healthy and well cared for. They give detailed helpful advice whenever you have a question. They don't have as large of a selection of tank decor, etc. as big box pet stores, but I highly recommend supporting this awesome local business whenever possible. I try hard not to write bad reviews, but for this guy I'm going to have to. This review is NOT about his mask policy, it's about the way he treated me. I recently purchased a fish tank at a yard sale with some parts, but not everything I need. I went into this store to see what other parts I need and to buy, plus some sand, fish, coral, if they have any, salt water, a filter, and any accessories that they would have recommended. About 10 seconds after I entered this guy almost rinse over to me and tells me that I have to wear a mask to shop there, and he was kind of rude about it. The CA mask mandate was lifted about 2 weeks ago and every store that I've been in since has honored that except this guy, and if he wasn't so rude about it I might have just asked him for a mask to wear a while I was shopping because I really did want to get this aquarium up and going. Unfortunately the guy put me off so bad that I had to leave. He wouldn't just let me leave though, on my way out he continued antagonizing me saying "it's written on the door" to which I replied "well I didn't see it," and I didn't say all word. As I was just about to open the door to leave he yelled from across the store "you don't have to whine about it.". Remember, I hadn't said a word other then what I wrote here .. I wanted to turn around and confront him but I didn't because I just didn't want to have a big old fight, I just replied "I'm not whining sir I'm just leaving." This is really too bad because I really wanted to start up a saltwater aquarium with little piece of coral and some fish and all the accessories I would have bought. This guy lost that and the repeat business he would have had for years. I know I'm only one customer but, if he treats me like that he poetically treats other people like that and you should know before you go. I see that he has great reviews online and it might be a great fantastic aquarium store but the way the guy treated me I just can't I can't go back and I will never recommend them to anybody, on the contrary, I will actively discourage people from going. You probably get better service at Petco. Granted, you probably get better fish from this guy but I'm not willing to put up with how rude he was to me. After transferring everything into a drum, I contacted Evan to see if he can get me a Reefer 170...he said we can have it in 5 days...Awsome! 2 days later, i change my mind and wanted to upgrade to a Reefer 250, and Evan was very helpful and understanding on the change. This is hands down my favorite aquarium store in the area. The space is organized and clean, and the tanks are no different. While I've only been coming to this lfs for about 6 months, I have only ever received healthy fish with no sign of parasitic or bacterial diseases. What I love most about this shop is how knowledgeable and kind the staff are. I like to know how long the fish I'm purchasing have been there, and the source from where they got them. Aside from a few computer checks, these gentleman know right off the top of their head. Since diving head first back in to the aquarium hobby, I've made a few mistakes. I went to this shop because I'm new to the area and I was pleasantly surprised by what's inside! If you're a fish geek like me this is the place for you! All the tanks are well maintained and you can tell the workers really care about their customers. I had a few questions about some species and when they receive their shipments and all of my questions were answered. I even personally ordered some fish that other local stores don't usually carry (Odessa barbs). I ordered them on a Tuesday and the fish came in Wednesday! This place is great! I went in trying to get the lights in the hood of my tank fixed and the guys were super helpful and friendly. Even though they couldn't repair my hood, they suggested to get a led strip which would work just as well. One of the guys even got rid of all the old broke fixtures and got it ready for me to just zip tie the new strip on!! My tank looks amazing now and I seriously recommend coming to see these guys for anything you need for you aquarium. Even though there was a few cool looking fish I was afraid to buy anything with dead fish floating around and others that were sick. The merchandise in the store was old dusty and a little expensive. This is the only store in town my family buys our fish from. The staff is highly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Last year I bought a manual aquarium vacuum for my tank but had never used one before. The man behind the counter gave me a quick n' easy demonstration of how to use it that was far easier than the method listed on the package. Coming in here is like going to the zoo for my young daughter too. The darkened area with the fish tanks and the glow of the lights has a mesmerizing effect. Maybe that explains why I can't seem to leave without buying something. We've had some tetras from this place that have been around for 7 or 8 years now too! All of the fish we've gotten have been healthy and they always have a good stock of the items we occasionally need for tank maintenance. I bought several 'starter' fish for my first aquarium. Those suckers were so hearty that they survived and have grown to 7" (tinfoil barbs). I also bought several Malawi cichlids from them, which were in excellent condition and so far have lived 2 years. I lost my first fish today. I brought in a water sample and they analyzed it on the spot for me. At the time, the fish was still alive and at home. The gentlemen there were kind enough to tell me how to properly and painlessly end its suffering. They offered me advice on how to treat it and possibly save the fish, but were extremely honest about the grim outlook and did not at all try to upsell me on products. I very much appreciate their gentle manner which they treated me and talked about my fish. Very kind, knowledgeable staff. By the time I made it back home, the fish was hazy eyed and it was time... A great and only (besides chain stores) aquarist store in between the bay area and Sacramento. An amazing selection of all fresh and saltwater fish, plants, coral and inverts. And if the store can't get it they can order it. They moved across the street next to napa and premium auto. Much better than the drug dealer, ghetto location they were in before. As far as the management goes Paula who owns the store is amazing along with her son Chris. They're super knowledgable and friendly. Will go out of their ways to help you with anything possible. Evan on the other hand. Well he just seems snide. Rude in most cases. I would try and avoid him, even though he is the most knowledgable about the saltwater side of the house. The tanks are hit and miss. Some days they're sparkling clean. While others they look pretty gross. Especially on the saltwater side of things. I wish it would be a consistently cleaned look. But I've never seen anyone clean the tanks besides a younger guy who's only in there once every blue moon. Though a bit dirty all the livestock is in good healthy condition. They order their saltwater fish and coral from quality marine and since switching it seems like the quality is much higher. The prices of the fish are between spot on and a tad bit to high. The corals on the other hand are nothing too special. Every few weeks they get something rare in but the price is way too HIGH. Wish there was more selection of corals. And wish the coral tanks were better laid out. Possibly on egg crate thats clearly marked out price wise. That would be an amazing improvement. The current system is terrible. Only Evan knows the prices to the corals. Unless he's working good luck buying any. That's one of the reasons I can't give the store 5 stars. the other would be cleanliness and price. Over all a great store for beginner to advanced aquarist. You can get or order any type of equipment and they offer layaway in case you can't afford it all at once. And can get any type of fresh and saltwater fish,plant, corals and inverts. read more

Great place for good quality fish. Petco and that fish place across street from sea splendor are terrible for getting good quality swimmers. Evan is a lil snobbish as far as customer service go, but I speak with woman about anything I need and she helps me plenty. If it wasn't for her, I would have let Evan rot in his little world with his little hairdo, but again I am thankful for the polite woman with a vast knowledge of both saltwater and fresh. I recently got back into he aquarium hobby. I asked some friends and family and they all said to go here. I wasn't disappointed. The staff are very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. They didn't have an answer for all of my questions but that is okay. We cant all know everything. I recently bought some African cichlids from them and one died a few days later. No biggy. SO I go back about a week later. They remembered me. They asked how the fish were. I said that most were doing great and one had died but it was no bigy. They offered to replace the fish AND threw in 2 beautiful little African cichlids to help compensate for my loss. The service and care in this shop is top notch. The dead strip-mall that Sea Splendor Aquarium neighbors does not do justice to the amazing shop that it truly is! Like the old saying goes, "You should never judge a book by it's cover!" The store has an excellent assortment of salt and fresh water fish. With over more than half the store dedicated to various sea life I was amazed at how well kept all of the tanks appeared. Not only did they have the usual tetras and cichlids, they also had TONS of fish that I had never seen before. I wish I had the time to write them down..oh well, just further incentive for me to visit again. I did notice that their prices were a little higher than what I've seen at other pet stores but like a fellow yelper said, you get what you pay for. All of the fish looked happy, healthy and disease free. Their exotic supply on hand had me revisit the tanks at least 3-4 different times. Their stock of tank decor wasn't impressive. Oh well, their assortment of fish on hand makes up for it. The employee on duty was helpful and cheery. My husband and I asked him a few questions about ordering certain fish and he was more than available and honest about prices and availability. He really seemed to know his fish when we asked about Puffers and Eels (Our personal choice of fish!) Hands down.. ive been going to sea splendor for over 12 years and there are plenty of reasons why. their specimens are always healthy, and when they dont have what you are looking for, they will find it for you. ive asked them to find me some pretty obscure fish and they always come through. they once had a possible disease outbreak within their tanks that wasnt not visible to the naked eye, and when i walked in they immediately told me that their fish may have been compromised and they would not sell any fish. they easily could have just kept on selling off these fish that they only suspected of being sick, but they were honest and would only sell supplies and equipment until they resolved the problem. evan, paula and chris are super knowledgeable, and wont steer you wrong when it comes to species compatibility. they will take the time to explain things to you, they are honest in their recommendations and you can trust their expert advice. ive been keeping aquariums fresh and salt for over 20 years since i was a little kid, and most times i walk into an aquarium store, i often feel like i know more than the workers. at sea splendor, i always feel confident that they will have the answers im looking for. the thing i like the most about these guys is that like a good restaurant, they remember their customers, they get on a first name basis with you, they learn what types of specimens you keep, and they make you feel like they care about your setup at home. i stopped keeping aquariums for the last 2 years because of a start up company i was a part of was taking up all of my time. we recently sold and it gave me a lot more time and money so i decided to get back into the hobby. i walked into sea splendor for the first time in over two years and it was like i never stopped going. they remembered me and greeted me as if ive been coming in weekly like i had been years before. a great establishment, and a great place to take kids if you want to get them into the hobby. read more

Been going here for 20+ years it's family owned and operated and the staff is like family to me. Knowledgeable and friendly. Let's be honest we have to support our local LFS stores, as they are a dying breed. They may not be as cheep as online, but you can get personal help and service in this hobby that you can't get online. Being tired of the redundant stock that the big chain stores have, I went into this store with one wish in mind: variety. Sea splendor did not disappoint. While I was mainly looking for freshwater species, they do not lack options for the saltwater enthusiast as well (half of the store is dedicated to corals and saltwater species). SELECTIONS Their freshwater fish selection is a lot more than I expected. As previous reviews suggested, their wide selections offer something for the aspiring and advanced aquarist. I particularly enjoyed their cichlid varieties. And surprisingly, they also have some freshwater plants (albeit it needs a little expansion). FISH QUALITY/HEALTH Also, fish quality and health is optimal. I cannot stress this enough since one of the major pet chains I frequent at continues to sell fish stock with obvious signs of poor health or worse, dead fishES *yes, plural* in their community tanks. This is NOT what I've witnessed in Sea Splendor. On the contrary, their fish quality is top notch that by the time I walked out of their front door, I was carrying 4 cichlids home with me (3 more than initially intended). PRICES surprisingly low / reasonable (especially for a local store). CUSTOMER SERVICE GREAT. All my nagging questions were patiently answered by Randy/Raymond and Chris. Plus, I try to support local business (though I am from VV - close enough) as much as I can.
