The process itself is…read morepainful as they insert 4 electrodes about the size of a pen refill deep in your neck along both sides of your spine. Then he shoots radio waves to kill the nerves. One of the electrodes, during one of the sessions, failed, but he kept shooting electricity to it to try and get it to work. All the while the faulty electrode was causing intense pain. He finally got angry, pulled the electrode out hastily and jammed another one in and completed the therapy (torture). After the "therapy", I was light headed so a nurse helped me to lay down. While I was resting, he walked by and said what's wrong with you? I said I was light headed. To which he replied, "You big baby!" Really professional. This guy is a q and likes to make your legs flinch or twitch like a frog, by flicking the electrodes for the enjoyment of the people in the room. Oh, and to top it off, I have permanent nerve damage. But not where I needed it as the therapy didn't work at all. No pain was ever relieved. I have permanent nerve damage throughout all the skin in my neck and upper back.

Having said that, I have seen and met many doctors over the years, most were just working for the insurance companies, making poor decisions, all for the sole purpose to save money. As a result, I suffered for those poor decisions. Most doctors through my experience are very short tempered, uncaring, and abrasive. Dr. James Barnett is NOT one of those doctors. He is a truly gifted man with a genuine heart. He is a doctor that wants to HELP his patients, and through his expertise and vast knowledge he IS the one doctor I would highly recommend to any patient seeking help/relief from pain. I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Barnett as my specialist since the year 2000. He's helped me tremendously through the 14+ years of my life-long struggle with leg and back pain. As my particular case itself is more complicated than most, he took the challenge and has been by my side since. He's become part of my family, and I'm thankful everyday that I found this awesome man to be my doctor. His passion for life and to truly help others is what separates him from the cookie-cutter pack of doctors out there.

Thoughts... This…read morelocation of the CSSC is the latest and in my humble option; the greatest outpatient office Doctor Navani and her outstanding support team (Rena ^5) has opened. My Story / History... In 2016, I was injured at work. My employer (at the time) contracted with Kaiser for workers compensation (WC) claims so, that's where my initial treatments and programs for recovery began and ultimately ended. After almost four months of ineffective treatment and indecisive decisions with the folks at Kaiser, I hired an attorney who changed my WC provider into the care of Doctor Annu Navani and her Comprehensive Spine & Sports Centers team. Dr. Navani's primary operations (at the time) were conducted in Campbell area of the South Bay. But after almost ten months of driving more than 150 miles round trip for visits and treatment, my prayers were answered when Dr. Navani told me she was opening an office here in the City of Modesto. My first visit in Modesto was on May 31, 2017 and I was impressed. The office is located inside of a business park next to a neighborhood. The area is busy with with lots of traffic and people visiting two hospitals within blocks and an elementary school, a block away. Inside, the office is huge with lots of room and seating for patients awaiting appointments. Treatments that finally WORK! From GO, Dr. Navani worked with me to tackle my pain; to get me some relief and get some of my functions restored. She began by addressing what didn't work while I was in Kaiser's care then, ordered new and innovative ideas like acupuncture and an chiropractor after two epidurals failed to relieve my pain. To her credit, her recommended treatments have worked. Synopsis... Even though I'm not at 100% of where I was in terms of ability and agility before I was injured. With Dr. Navani and her teams help, I'm in a better place of both mind and fitness from whence I came. Dr. Navani has been respectful, kind, professional and patient each time I've talked with her and I'm truly happy with her service and her new location. I'd highly recommend her and her team for injury treatments.

Everyone was kind, informative, patient, and genuinely caring. I had never been to this hospital so I wasn't sure what to expect but they took the time to answer my questions, explained everything clearly, and made me feel very comfortable every step of the way. Having surgery is stressful, but the entire team made the experience as smooth and positive as possible. I am so grateful for the excellent care I received and truly appreciate the compassion and professionalism shown by everyone involved. Wonderful hospital and an outstanding staff. Thank you for taking such great care of me!

Sister was transferred here from Manteca ER to evaluate whether she needed immediate back surgery…read more Her MRI proved she has multiple issues that are pinching nerves to the point of making her pain unbearable while also making part of her legs weak and numb and almost unable to walk. She was admitted and was given a pretty good regimen of pain medications and steroids to help with the pain and inflammation. Social Services came by and said to tell them if she needed anything before she left. Staff and services provided up to this point were good. For the first two days she was there they said she didn't need surgery right away and it was more of pain management at that point. She was told she was going to be discharged on Monday. Here's where my opinion changed of this hospital. Monday comes and my sister calls me in a panic, crying saying that they scheduled her for surgery on Tuesday and that she didn't even get to ask any clarifying questions or even what procedure they were doing since she had separate issues in her back. The doctor dismissed her questions, including the fact that he didn't see something on the MRI that at least 10 other doctors have seen and said needed to be watched, possibly removed. It is a growth on her L1 that has grown by over a centimeter. He claims he didn't see it so shrugged it off. So, when my sister called me she was crying saying she felt bullied into have a surgery now that wasn't even deemed an emergency (and it was out of network for her insurance, which was also of great financial concern). I told her they couldn't bully her and she has a right to choose which doctor performs any surgery. Once they heard she was not getting surgery, the attitudes of the staff and doctors changed. Social services never came back to assist with her needs, the doctors told her they were going to send her home with pain pills yet they didn't send her home with any prescription. not even a taper dose of oral steroids after days of IV steroids. She was considered a fall risk for obvious reasons, yet NO ONE bothered to have anyone get a wheelchair and roll her downstairs to be picked up. She had to walk while still weak and in pain. They discharged her within 20 minutes of her telling them she didn't want surgery there. It takes me 40 minutes to drive there so she was just wandering trying to find somewhere to sit and wait for me. Before we even got home, the doctor sent over a bill online for her services. first of all, very rude, second of all submit it to insurance, dummy. We aren't paying it. Once they realized they weren't going to be making money off of an out of network non emergency surgery, she was treated like trash which I find highly disturbing.

I have been seeing Dr. Heron for almost 6 years for pain management re: Degenerative Spinal Disease…read morewith Progressive Osteoporosis. Having come from a county where the doctors did not follow up on my diagnoses, I was delighted to be taken seriously. Yes, the Wait Time is definitely a nuisance but I have found that the best doctors always have that problem. And Dr. Heron's treatment plans for me have increased my quality of life significantly! I couldn't drive a car prior to seeing Heron. Within a year of seeing him, I was back driving. When I asked for outside information re my conditions, Heron suggested materials to help change my life style. Dr. Heron has listened to me sharing about my unusual responses to treatments and been open to changing the treatment plans accordingly. This is a rare quality in specialists and I am most grateful. In summary, Dr Heron has given me a much improved quality of life and treated me with dignity never indicating disbelief in the level of my pain nor making remarks about "pill-seeking behavior," behaviors that other doctors in pain management felt were a required part of their new patient introductions. I don't mind waiting for Dr. Heron; he listens, follows through and treats me with dignity, kindness and successful treatments! PS In defense of the office staff, and the doctors, the state and federal guidelines concerning Pain Management (especially re the opioid crisis,) are very restrictive. In order to keep their licenses, they must set strict boundaries with their clients. PS Bring your pup with you for an extra relaxed visit lol)
