This is definitely not one of those places where you're going to fall asleep during your massage. Ashley K. is on point when she uses the word "torture" (think slapping your back, high pressure, lots of pounding... and yes all done by a petite somewhat older lady!), but I really did enjoy the massage. I made a same-day appointment on a Friday for 2pm. Scheduling was easy and when I walked in the parlor (is that the right word?) was empty. I walked to the counter and was asked to sit in the big red chairs for a while. I chose the body massage for $30 as I've been experiencing a lot of neck and back pain. I was shortly moved to one of the massage rooms and in the back-- a darker individual room with a massage table. The environment looked clean and I was given the option of having the music on or off. The inside of the room wasn't super fancy (i.e. fountains, various aromas, decor, etc.), but for an Asian place that was expected. I was then informed that my massage therapist would be a female and was given a good 10 minutes or so to get situated. From there, I pretty much every inch of me was badgered (in a good way). The therapist did confirm if the pressure was okay. We didn't converse at all given the language barrier I'm guessing, but I actually prefer my massages that way. All in all, a painful, yet good experience. The next day I must admit I was a bit sore, but the following day I felt pretty much amazing! I loveeee massages!! Yst is a nice clean new foot and body massage place. They offer the $15- 60min. foot massages. I opted for the combo $20, which includes, 30 min. foot massage and 30 min. body massage. Of course it's not your normal relaxing massage, it's pretty rough, but it's the good kind of pain... :) They also offer a loyalty/ stamp card... you get a free foot massage after your 10th visit. Update!! I'm gonna give this place 4 stars. New management/owner. All new staff. It was a lot cleaner and the best part was the talking between the staff was very minimal. Will try again. The post below is my last experience while back. 2 stars at the most. It was better few month ago. Maybe they changed owners, but the staff has totally changed. One lady is very rude and if you get her she'll talk non stop to everyone and leave you every 5 min. We have gone there few times and some of our experiences were ok to good. Our usual massage place was closed on Thanksgiving so we found this new gem. It's a new location of an existing franchise in Rowland Heights. I had Helen and my boyfriend had Jake as our therapists, and they were amazing! They spent a lot of time on our feet and legs, which I love, and massaged us for the full 60 minutes. A family member took me there because I strained my back really bad(lower back), and couldn't find a solution to fix it. So I gave it a try,Tom helped me out and I told him my problem. And he started on my shoulders, and I was like that's not my problem in my head I was thinking. So I just kept quiet, and he eventually got down to my main problem, it hurt to have him massage my lower back, but I just took it. Then he found a spot in my neck that I was having issues with too that I didn't tell him about, I was shocked he found it. That told me how skilled he was. So long story short, my pain was a 9 or a 10, and after I feel 70 % better. I couldn't bend over to pick up anything,and hours after I could bend over to the ground and pick things up. Finally, an affordable massage place close to home! We came here on a Sat afternooon and the place was half empty. The place was clean and it wasn't noisy as many of Yelpers mentioned. Probably because we came here during a low time? They even turned down the volume on the TV once our session started. I had the foot massage and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was our first time here so we didn't expect much. My husband really enjoyed the massage and the lady, Rosa actually listened to his concerns which were pain at the neck and shoulder areas. She unknotted those areas and he really felt relaxed and lighter at the end of the session. As for me, Mr. Wong was also great. I am a huge massage lover. Ive been living in this area over 10 yrs and I must say this YST shop is the best out of all including in rowland hts, and pomona area as well. FYI, Tom is the best! This is my fave place near Diamond Bar. I'm pretty picky with massages, but Tom and Xiao Wang are great! Tip may be mandatory, but their foot massage hourly rate of $20 is such a deal. These two masseuses do a great job, so I usually tip $10 each time. I appreciate their effort in rolling out my knots, especially where my neck meets shoulder (consequences of poor posture and texting all the time); they really take their time to help me get them out! Interesting that NOW I see the minimum tip requirement as noted by some other reviewers. I just came back from this particular location (I usually go to the Rowland Heights one, but decided to give this one a try for a change). I got the $20 foot and back massage, as it is the cheapest and is enough for me. The massage was good, as I came an hour before closing so there were hardly any other customers. Noise was at a minimum except for the one other masseuse who kept chatting with his customer, but it got quiet within 10 minutes or so. When I paid the $20 for the massage, I gave the masseuse my $2 tip as well, and he, along with a Go Jun Hee look-a-like working the counter stared blankly at me in complete silence for about 5 seconds. Awkward. They told me they have a $5 tip minimum requirement. I laughed and told them I have never heard of such a requirement at any establishment ever. The masseuse continued to tell me how giving only 10% is not acceptable and that if I do this at other massage places, I would be blacklisted or unwelcome my next visit around. I retorted that I have frequented $15 and $20 foot massage places for years giving a similar scaled tip with NO ONE ever complaining or imposing a minimum on me. I have been welcomed back by places, too. The Go Jun Hee look-a-like chimed in saying that the massage place provides, and I quote from Mandarin, "a one on one service and is not a restaurant and requires more than a 15% tip." No, sweetie. I even informed them politely that the Rowland Heights YST doesn't impose what they are imposing, yet they kept trying to push for that 25% tip. Ridiculous. BTW I have noticed that some YST masseuses in general (this location and the Rowland Heights one) are starting to use rubber finger massage tools rather than their actual hands on some parts of the foot massage. Again, I am not a cheap person. I tip, but within a reasonable means. There is no such thing as a "tip minimum" at any business establishment. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. 2017 EDIT: Wanted to add that in retrospect, maybe I was a little low on the tipping end (I now give $5 minimum for at least $20 service like this), but I want to reiterate that there is no such thing as a tip minimum. Came here only cause was in need for a last min foot massage and this place was the only place near by that closes at 11pm, came here at 940-ish pm. Also, called ahead and asked if it's ok to come since I live about 20 mins away. Ok, I know it's close to closing time but still customer should still have the same quality. I felt like like everything was rushed. Every touch was not focused it was just like someone just touching you. I was hoping they will use lotion for the upper body-neck, shoulder, arms but they didn't. The foot massage was not comfortable cause of the gloves. The masseur kept on talking towards the end. I have only gotten a professional massage twice in my life but this was amazing. Not painful or too intense as some others but so effective. I was so surprized when the hour was over and I realized that alll of the pain I normally feel was gone. Its called a foot massage but they massage your head,neck legs shoulders back and your legs. They even massaged my 3 yr old granddaughter and she loved it and fell asleep.I will definitely recommend this business to any and all who are seeking affordable massage and relief from pain. The place is clean, but VERY LOUD. The workers are talking to each other loudly. It is very difficult to relax. They are not staffed with enough people. When customers walk in, they start calling the "on-calls" to come. They would tell customer to wait 5 minutes, but it could be 30 minutes+. I've seen customer walked out mad. Before I found Lina at this massage place, I would always go to different places in hopes of finding a good masseuse, and was always disappointed, until I found this place. Lina is so good. She is really my go to person. I trust her completely to loosen my knots and muscles. Every time I see her, she gets right into it, once she starts my massage she could tell exactly what I need and where I need it, and I just let her do her thing. I can completely relax. She starts on time and gives me the full time. She diligently works on my muscles and massages me mindfully. She talks to me just the right amount, and even though I usually like my quiet when I get a massage, I actually really enjoy talking with her. When I get a massage from her she really gives it her all, and I always leave there feeling much better than I did. I hope this review doesn't make her so busy that she won't have time for my appointments. I've been coming here for years, and I will continue to come back here as long as Lina still works here. I'm only giving two stars because of the customer service. The massage was ok, but I'm still quite upset about how my mom and I were, hell I'll say it, bullied. We went in, expecting to get the $15 foot massages. Reading previous reviews, I thought I could politely decline any upgrades. When offered the menu, we looked it over, and the lady in broken English tried to get us to upgrade to the $20 special (30 min foot, 30 min body). I smiled, and tried to politely communicate to her that we'll have the $15 foot massage for each of us. Maybe it's the language barrier, or just insistence, but she kept trying to get me to get the $20 special for literally the next 5 minutes. I asked my mom if she wanted to do the special, but she said she was going to get a full body massage next week, and felt we should just get our feet rubbed. Around minute number 4 of trying to politely decline my patience started to wear thin, considering she was getting progressively louder and pushy and causing a scene, when I finally firmly insisted the $15 for us both. It took a while, because again the language barrier, and probably her thinking that I would cave. Not a good start. We get the foot soak, and they proceed to massage our feet, and I can tell they were just running through the motions. I've been to a number of chinese foot massage places, and I can tell when they're conscientious and when they're not. No mind, it was a fine massage nonetheless. Then at the 30 minute mark, the masseurs stop and try to pull us to get the 30 minute body massage. Again in broken English they tried to sell us on getting the $20 special. This is when the previous lady comes over and joins in on the hard sell. It becomes so overwhelming, and after politely protesting for another 4 minutes (again, they're getting progressively louder, disrupting everyone else's services for them to hear), my mom just says, let's just do it, and we go to get the massages. Again, I actually enjoyed the full body massage bc he hit all the spots, but I didn't really appreciate being hassled. There was a legitimate reason why we only wanted foot massages (the massage my mom scheduled for the next week, and we had taken a trip where we had been on our feet constantly for two weeks), and yet our requests were not heeded. I felt bullied, and for this, I wanted to reduce their tip. So, we get out, we pay, and give the tip ($3/masseur). The previous lady asks us how we feel. My mom says alright, and to be polite I say I feel great! In response she says, "you feel great, you tip $5." What?? First, you pressure us into upgrading our services, twice, both for prolonged periods of time, we cave against our requests, and now you are guilting us into tipping more?? I had been in a similar situation not too long ago, and it was just bringing all those bad feelings back. I'm by no means a stingy tipper, and tip depending on quality of service. I understand setting a standard of tipping on the menu, or on signs in the place of business for customers to see and acknowledge once they agree to services, but otherwise, I'm going to tip based on how I was treated. I just hate when business owners only tell you the tip standards AFTER the fact, not before when the customer still has the choice to accept them or not. We just gave them the $5 each, and left as soon as possible. Ironically, going into the massage place I was going to tip $5 on the initially requested $15 foot massage. But because of the predicament we were put in, I ended up paying $5 more only to come out of the massage place more mentally stressed out than going in. I am Asian, but I am not Chinese, so I think you have a slight advantage if you speak Chinese. I think that plays a part on not just communicating, but whether or not they try to push upgrades on you. This is also another reason why I hate current American tipping standards.
