I changed dentist 9 times in five year after my dentist in Long Beach retired at age 78 years old. With my Delta Dental insurance I picked a dentist from their list. Nine dentists, one every six-months were so very disappointing, wanting to seek extra charges for a "Deep Cleaning" of my teeth during my 6-month X-Ray and cleaning appointments. I got to Dr. Yu Kyung - my tenth dentist in five years and WOW~!!!! Dr. Yu Kyung and her staff provided the service I had come to be familiar with my Long Beach Dentist who treated me for 30 yrs. I am happy to share I have been a client of Dr. Yu Kyung for 13-14 yrs now. Dr. Yu Kyung is the best dentist in California. She cares about her patients. She is knowledgeable, honest, transparent, exceptional about all teeth issues. Dr. Yu Kyung had completed Root-Canals for me and at other times she has referred me out for services she does not work on. Dr. Yu Kyung has never charged me additional for a 'Deep Cleaning' as I don't need a deep cleaning. Dr. Yu Kyung cleans my teeth by hand and instrument same as my Long Beach Dentist. Now the best part, Dr. Yu Kyung's prices are so very reasonable and affordable. ALSO NOTE: Dr. Yu Kyung is a graduate of top five dental school at the University of Southern California. It was so sad and disappointing to hear how my parents were treated at Dr. Yu's office. The front office gal, was horrible . There was a verbal altercation between the front office staff and my parents, not once did the the Dentist come out to de- escalate the situation. Please understand from a non medical persons point of view its complicated to understand the obvious for you. What's simple and standard knowledge for the dental staff, as you are the subject matter experts , it's your responsibility to educate the general Public , rather than engaging in a back and forth cussing war with an 80 y/o patient. I had a wisdom tooth extraction. Dentist told me it would be a simple procedure, and it was. The staff here is nice and excellent. The injection was minimal in pain, and the tooth was wonderfully extracted with very little problems or pain. My wife also had some extractions done here but had an adverse experience due to some complications, however she recommended me here afterwards still, so she must agree as well with how good the dentist is! read more

I've being going to Kyung Sook Yu, DDS for a while . I should have read her YELP reviews first. Always she acts as if she is upset at me . I've have done nothing but trying to be friendly and polite with her and her 2 female employees I am 86 years old .Every time I see her she criticizes me for grinding my teeth in a very demeaning matter . I have no idea why I went back to her. I should have searched for better treatment and friendly dentists which I am sure there are a lot of them . I accidentally broke my rear lower teeth and starting to get infected .she said to keep it until the pain gets worse. but she said I have 2 top front teeth cavities and she would take care of. I was surprised I had cavities on my 2 front teeth. Next day I went to take care of them. I asked for an X-ray of them to know the extend of the damage , she acted as if she didn't hear me . No local anesthetic not any kind of pain protection she immediately proceeded to drill as if she was cleaning my teeth , I suffered no pain at all. I believe she did NOT drilled into my teeth but made lots of noise to convince me that she worked in my cavities . her work lasted 20 minutes, if that long, for 2 drilled teeth and fillings. In my need to extract my broken tooth I went to another dentist and I asked him of the recent fillings and my experience with this dentist he said all I see is 2 tiny, tiny fillings on your upper teeth . Would not go again. Went for a cleaning and felt like some short cuts were taken. Other places have those high pressure water pick like devices that help clean. The lady used a metal pick for the entire cleaning and that was it. I guess the plus side is that because there aren't many customers there's close to no wait for appointment. read more

Friendly staff, excellent customer service and follow up, great dentist! I'm so happy I found this dentist! I hadn't been to the dentist in 3 years. I had simply called their office to get an idea of their next appointment but since their staff did such a great job to follow up with me and my busy schedule, I made an appointment and finally went to a dentist. I had been procrastinating for 3 years by letting the busyness of life get in the way. Their office is clean. I liked their decor and I appreciated how they attend you on time. DO NOT COME HERE. I've been a patient at this dentist for awhile now since it is the only place to accept my insurance. First off, the dentist office itself is very worn out and dirty. There were ants crawling all over the floor and over the check-in counter. She owns a dog and keeps her inside the rooms where patients are to be treated in. (She occasionally puts her dog on the floor to wander while patients are inside the same room) I actually have dog allergies and it's not something i want to worry about when i'm there for a dentist appointment. About a year ago, I had come here to extract a tooth. She carelessly yanked on the tooth back and forth, causing bruising, and tearing my gum. That day, I had gone home to look in the mirror and saw that she hadn't even extracted all of it. A chunk of my tooth's root was still intact and easily visible. She didn't even care to double check to see if she had removed it completely. I called the front desk and they said that they were too busy to take me in and that i would have to schedule an appointment the following week. Recently I had to come again because of a cavity and semi-annual cleaning. I never really cared to look at the tools on my previous visits but today I turned to my right only to see that the tools they were gonna use on me were rusty, worn out, cracked, and visibly dirty. It looked like it was picked up off the concrete or the sidewalk. While she was drilling and treating my cavity, she starts talking to her assistant about her family, dog, and how she hates the music playing in her office. The assistant was actually more focused than Yu Kyung Sook, the dentist herself, who was just laughing and talking nonstop. When it was time for cleaning, she just used one of her old metal picks to poke at the roots unlike other dentists that use clean, professional devices for a proper cleaning. After I had gone home and the numbing had worn off, I was drinking a glass of room-temp water, and my cavity-treated tooth started throbbing in severe pain. I had cavities treated in the past (at other dentists) and never experienced a pain like this after getting it treated. I went for a walk the following night and even the wind passing by triggered pain in my tooth. She has made my tooth so sensitive that even still, it hurts to drink water without feeling pain. ** The day i had gone to get my cavity removed, a man walked in to complain about how his cavity-treated tooth was still in pain after a MONTH of getting it done. Yu Kyung Sook, the dentist, started to raise her voice and told him that the pain will go down after time. The man continued to tell her that it's been a month and he wants to know why the pain is still ongoing. She started to raise her voice even more, yelling, and blaming him saying that it's because he has an alcohol problem. Very unprofessional. I'll be going to another dentist for any future appointments even though insurance won't cover. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I don't understand how they can be in practice. I brought my mother in today for her appointment. Drove 40 minutes to get there. Only to be told that they confused her with another patient. How is that possible? Isn't it required to ask for a DOB when making an appointment? Then the two receptionists argued about who my mother was. One saying that she was the correct patient, the other one saying that she was not. Had to change dentists due to insurance and ended up here. She was absolutely horrible. Very rude and has the worst bedside manners--judgmental and mean to children. After that one check-up, I never went back again and opted to go to my childhood dentist even though my insurance does not cover it. The receptionist was not friendly and didn't greet me when I walked in. The place also looks dated, as if it hasn't been updated in 25 years. Also, been sitting here for 25 minutes and no one was helping me. I'm finally done after an hour and 10 minuted. KYUNG SOOK YU, DDS - SHE IS THE WORST DENTIST I HAVE MET IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! I called up to schedule an appointment stating that my tooth broke. They booked me for the next day. When I got there, the dentist says "I thought you came in just for a cleaning". She seemed upset that I was there with my broken tooth. She seemed in a hurry to get me out. When she got to me, she started making small talk making fun of my name. She then without warning just stuck the syringe needle with anesthetic inside my mouth and it was painful. She then proceeded to make a large hole inside my tooth. there was a lot of debris in my mouth and I was afraid to swallow it. When I asked her if I can gargle, she snapped at me telling me I should just allow her to continue with her work. Without irrigating the hole or blowing with air she just stuck the filling inside the tooth. She says, "I'm not sure if you need a root canal". She then discharged me without appropriate instructions or medication to take except for telling me that I should wait for their call when insurance approves of crowning procedure which will take about a month. When I left the office, that is when my tooth became painful after anesthesia wore off. I started also getting feverish the next day. I think she knew that I needed a root canal but had other patients to attend to and that is why she did not do it. She has poor bedside manners. She is not friendly and actually is grouchy. You can hear her complaining how overworked she is as she tells this to her dental assistant.
