I was recommending this place for takeout and noticed one of my top Japanese restaurants for the area has a very low rating. I'm shocked. I have not left a review on Yelp in years. But here I am. Changed my password to save this criminally low rating for this place. Although, honestly, it has been a few years since I made it by and another friend didn't particularly LOVE it here when I asked before we visited, (Maybe other reviewers are right. I can't tell them.) 2 stars? I have 5 star memory in my case and a nice photo to back it up. Hmm... Maybe it is time to start leaving reviews again. My experience here in 2023 was nothing short of excellent. Beautiful architecture. Grand and pleasant feel. Great prices. Fresh sushi with excellent presentation for my boyfriend's birthday. Truly a hidden gem in McDonough. I have been wanting to go back! It was just that kind of place that we remembered fondly but things just never aligned properly to return. We had a nice quiet meal we never forgot. Service was fast, attentive, and kind. Sushi is his favorite food. Couldn't let him down and Yuki delivered. As far as the choice of sushi, we preferred the flavor of the nigiri and the sashimi to the maki rolls most. The meat was great and stood out on its own. This place was once a top notch hibachi restaurant. Today it is not!!! Food was horrible, not seasoned and loaded with onions instead of a good variety of vegetables. We ordered the hibachi at a table in the front. The waitress and her trainer were both very incompetent. The food was bland, the windows at the table were so dirty with fingerprints, food, and insects we could hardly enjoy our outing. The soup with the meal was just salted water with onion powder. What happened to the soup with scallions and mushroom?!?!? AND AND AND they charge you a fee to use a debit card instead of cash and it is not posted anywhere in the restaurant or the menu. The manager tried to make it seem like it was our bank charging us, while in reality it is our bank charging the restaurant NOT US!!! WHAT RESTAURANT CHARGES FOR USING A DEBIT CARD??? It's literally cash! Don't patronize this place. The food and the service were garbage. Also no salad with the meal because of the recall. It's Meh. Not being able to order from the full menu is a turn off. I only eat here cause my Momma seems to love this place along with my brother's children so we are here to celebrate their events. This restaurant was pretty good at one point but has dramatically declined in the past few years. I brought my family here last night to celebrate my son's birthday. There was not a single aspect of the experience that was redeeming: 1. When we first arrived, we were told there was going to be a 15 minute wait at the Hibachi table though there weren't many other patrons. We were fine with the wait though it was 15 minutes before our order was even taken. We sat there for 30 minutes before getting even the soup or a beverage. 2. The other party at the table tried to order Sushi and was told it would be 1 hour for Sushi, they went ahead and ordered anyway (spoiler alert, they never got the sushi) 3. The hibachi chef didn't interact with us at all. No tricks, effects, jokes, smiles...nothing. 4. My very excited children told the host, the waitress and the cook that it was my son's birthday. The waitress said "we'll do something special for him." The neighboring table got a drum and song. When the waitress brought our bill I reminded her that they hadn't done anything for my son and she smiled, shrugged her shoulders and said oh, sorry. I shook my head so she told everyone at our table to sing happy birthday to my son. The food was ok, no issues there. My son left pretty disappointed, there are so many hibachi options in the area. If I could these place no stars I would. My party was Stan but we didn't have everyone so we waited until our whole party got here. When the arrived we sat for around 45 before we got out drink orders in. Then we sat around for around another 45 minutes before we got any food. The waitress had an attitude and seemed upset at us for being upset. Despite seemingly being short staffed the restaurant continued to seat people. This is a traditional Japanese style establishment but it is a little outdated and needs some remodeling. We ordered sushi so we didn't sit at the teppanyaki table. Our server was attentive but didn't offer any suggestions and didn't engage much with us. She would answer our questions but wasn't much for talking or smiling. Came here on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated fairly quickly. We had a party of 5. It took a while for the drink orders to be taken. We also tried to order saki bombs but that didn't go well. We were given one container of saki and 5 beer bottles. We had to ask for shot glasses and regular drinking glasses. The hibachi experience was great. The chef was funny and put on a good show. He asked for allergies which I appreciated. It was great portion sizes and the food was flavorful. I enjoyed the food and the show and had leftovers for the next day. The food and service were horrible. My family ate on the Korean Barbecue side of the restaurant and they brought all the raw food on one tray ( pork, beef, seafood,and chicken). Also, they did not have all the food options on the menu (ribeye and cheese corn) . When I asked the manager about the cross contamination of the food and lack of food options, she had an attitude. I ordered a Miami Vice and asked the server is it made with Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri. The server said yes as she walked away. What she brought was a Pina Colada with strawberry puree. I would honestly give this place zero stars if I could. We went here for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. It was us two and her two daughters. They messed up our orders. Our hibachi steaks were ordered medium and came out cold and well done. Then the manager was rude and charged us for the salads and soups. I attached the the receipt so they can't deny their scam business tactics. I will never go to this place again. To add on to their bad food, they charge you a service charge of 20% for four people. Do not order hibachi or sushi for pick up. The presentation is terrible and the portions are smaller. If you dine-in as a party of two, sit at the sushi bar. Good food and drinks. Atmosphere and decor okay. Servers are generally quick and friendly. They recently started a policy of 15%-18% for parties of 3 and up. We walk in with an 18 month old and they count her as part of our party for the purpose of a higher gratuity. She s one, she's drinking milk! The caveat is that I didn't dine in, but I ordered carry out of the Shrimp Fried Rice with a side of Hibachi vegetables. The shrimp friend rice is so good and little bits of peanut in it that provided for a very flavorful and nutty aftertaste. The rice was hot, cooked fresh, and the dish is more so topped with chopped fried shrimp rather than mixed within. It took 15-20 mins for the food to be complete. The veggies were hot, crisp, and obviously fresh from the very beginning. I hope to have the opportunity to dine in quit soon with family.
