I surprised my kids with Yummies Donuts last Saturday morning on my way home from work. They are pretty good, now hear me out I know donuts are supposed to be sweet, but theirs are just a little TOO sweet. I feel like the sweetness overpowered the actual flavors. I have older kids (17 and 15 year old boys) in addition to a 7 year old and not a one of them could finish a whole donut. This is a rarity for them! Sweeeet My sweet treat today was actually two, a huge Apple Fritter and a Vanilla Iced Raspberry Jam. They had a bunch of choices, it wasn't easy to only get two. Fresh, sticky, delicious. The Apple Fritter had a nice glaze and a cinnamon and apple flavor, it was really done well. For the other the vanilla icing was thick and the filling generous. My order taker was great, friendly and capable, a little melancholy when I asked about the old spot. It had been a couple of years since I stopped in at Yummies. I was down around Englewood and remembered the place. Because I was coming from an unfamiliar direction, I just used Google Maps without paying much attention. Good thing. I was quite surprised they are no longer where they were before but now are along US 41 in Venice. Kind of sad the very colorful place is gone but the new place has more space including some seating inside. What a great find this little local place is! Seriously though, where else can you find donuts made from scratch that also serve BBQ all in one place? The donuts are delicious and reasonably priced. I love the variety of flavors that they have, my favorite being the white iced Oreo one. Seriously, so good. I had a jelly donut left over this morning and enjoyed it with my coffee for breakfast. Do you remember honest to goodness butter cream icing and filling? Well they kept faith with making donuts the delicious way. My wife and I stopped by here on Friday around nine am for a few donuts to go. The variety and quantity of each was impressive. The showcases were filled to the back and well presented. We picked out five donuts and I asked the server if there was any savings buying a half a dozen. She replied no. They sell them by the each. Only. One of the donuts my wife wanted was a old fashioned cake style donut and the server had to go in the back and get one and we bought it plain and when we got home we noticed it was the one I have pictured which is pitiful. But for $3 per donut, I guess you can't expect perfection. Yes it was $15 for 5 donuts but that is the state of this wonderful economy we are dealing with. Why she would give us that donut I have no idea when it could have gone with the ones that she's going to throw away because there's no way, with nobody in that store on a Friday morning at 9:00 am, they're going to sell those hundreds of donuts. if they do , God bless them! So 4 out of five donuts were fresh and good, that fifth one was probably good but it just looked pitiful. We give them three stars based their prices and on them giving us one bad donut. She picked up a half a dozen assorted donuts, a half pound of pulled pork, and some handmade potato chips. Of the donuts we tried, my favorite was the coconut flake/Key Lime flavored one. The maple icing one was very sweet. (I saw that I previous reviewer called the donuts a "Sugar Fairy's Delight" or something to that effect, and I have to agree - those who love sweet things are going to love this place.) For me, a number of the donuts were actually too sweet, but that may just be my taste preferences. My wife tought that the BBQ was "tasty enough" as well as the handmade potato chips. Will we be going there again? Yes, most likely; however, it will be when we are "in the area" rather than an "expressed trip". read more

I've been going to yummies donuts for 20 so years. They were right outside circlewood where my mom lived and I always enjoyed the fresh baked donuts and apple fritters ,( my moms favorite). I was just there the other day and had the "sticky pig" . It was so good !! Great BBQ! And boy was I glad someone brought this place to my attention. I have had many different donuts from various locations and Yummies I believe has THE best donuts in Sarasota County.
