Lunch special - general tso chicken, egg foo young, cashew chicken & broccoli beef
    Diane L.

My mom likes the place for the lunch special. I really liked the egg foo young, it was crispy and flavorful. The general chicken lacked spice. The broccoli beef was tasty. The cashew chicken was tough/ chewy. I don't love fried rice but this one was decent. Egg rolls were excellent. I think it's ok in a pinch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again.

Friendly customer service, tasty quick bites. We got the shrimp toast and spring rolls. Shrimp toast was served on a bed of lettuce, and had a nice outer crisp with an average sized layer of shrimp cake. Spring rolls were crispy and hot, and had a good assortment of shredded veggies inside. Good spot for some quick, tasty fried snacks.

General Tso's shrimp lunch special. Heavy on rice, light on shrimp.

I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but it's not worth the trouble. I've had coworkers sing the praises of heaven about Yum's but my experiences were always underwhelming. The first time I ordered here, the food was mediocre. It wasn't the worst, as far as carryouts go, but it certainly wasn't the best by a long shot. The second go left even more to be desired. I ordered through Grubhub and ended up having to call to clarify something about their menu, since it still had a soda as an order option, yet described it as "temporarily unavailable." Uhm, what? Just take it off the menu altogether! I actually called to clarify whether the item was in stock, and the language barrier was significant. The cashier didn't seem to understand what I was asking "Do you have strawberry soda in stock?" so I gave up and ordered something different. I placed the order at 11:30am, but was given a delivery time of 1:15. I called at 1:20 when the food hadn't arrived and the cashier was again rude and simply said "I'll call you back." When I asked her if she was going to take my phone number, she hung up on me. I called back 5 minutes later and she simply said "it's on the way." I got my food at 1:30pm. Waiting 90 minutes for delivery is excessive. I will not be ordering here again. The food is simply not good enough to outweigh the poor customer service.

Service is always friendly and fast, and the food is packed with flavor you don't often find elsewhere Konjac Noodle Salad - Sour vinegar flavor with a nice kick. I loved the little konjac noodle bundles -- super bouncy and great at picking up the sauce. It's a perfect summer appetizer: refreshing with crisp veggies like cucumber and carrot but doesn't hold back on flavor. 3.5/5 Sour Soup Dumpling - Delicate skins with a savory pork broth that leans more comforting than sour. The filling falls apart as you bite into it and tastes like a mix of pork and vegetables. Simple, clean flavors 3/5 Spicy Beef Noodle Soup - My favorite dish so far! The broth is beefy, spicy, and rich with depth -- layered flavors that feel satisfying but not overwhelming. The meat was flavorful and chewy with fatty pieces that melt in your mouth. Loved the chewy, knife-cut-style noodles that soak up the broth, and the pickled veggies plus fresh cilantro kept it light and bright. 4.25/5 Cold Rice Noodle with Spicy Fried Chicken - Super sour but well-rounded -- flavorful without being sharp. I usually don't love rice noodles, but these were soft, bouncy, and satisfying. Surprisingly, the fried chicken stayed a bit crisp even in the broth. It's fried in a way that's drier and chewier, but that concentrated the flavor instead of making it actually taste dry. Great summer noodle dish 4/5 Signature Fruit Tea - Definitely on the syrupy side, which I expected, but still decent. Lots of blended fruit flavors -- sweet, slightly artificial, but enjoyable if you're in the mood for something fruity 2.5/5

We have been familiar with the area for years, as my father-in-law lived 3 minutes away, and recently we realized this was his go-to carryout. After 3 visits, I can say it's one of the best in the DMV, thanks to its flavor and food choices. You will find Japanese options like sushi, American-Chinese dishes like orange chicken, similar dishes, and Cantonese food like roast duck, Hong Kong-style noodle soups, and whole fish. They are family-owned and operated. Every time we come, the elder father is always gracious and provides excellent service. The restaurant is always quiet; you can hear conversations in the back, and as customers arrive to pick up their orders, we haven't witnessed any negative interactions. Customers are always happy with their food, and the staff say thank you. The only negative is the space. The building itself is older and outdated. In the summer, it is hot, and now in the winter, there is no heat. They have found ways to make it work, like space heaters on each table, but it can still get uncomfortable if you are dining in. The back area near the bathroom and the bathroom itself need a thorough cleaning. To me, it's a turnoff; it doesn't affect the food, but it does affect the dine-in experience. Again, overall, I love their food and believe it's a local gem worth a try.

We ordered the Crystal noodles with shredded beef & vegetables (41) And the Fried rice with vegetable (10). The fried rice comes with the bean sauce which i didn't know (not listed on the menu I had) and contains pork. When i attempted to get a new version, it took 3 staff members asking why. The, what I assume to be the manager, said she would take it off the bill after I said I DONT EAT PORK... I had high hopes since the menu includes intestines and other items that clearly are not meant for white customers. I am very happy to have a very tasty Chinese restaurant close to me. Dry pork noodles: These were the best IMO. Nice and spicy, with great flavors all around. I suggest getting the pork chop (add on) since there is not a lot of meat that comes with the dish normally. Beef noodle soup: Tasted very authentic and had a great broth. Thin slices of beef reminded me of real Chinese noodle soups. Spicy dry chicken noodles; Very similar to the pork noodles. What I really enjoy is that these are actually spicy dishes! I never had to add chili sauce!! Pork and chive dumplings: These were solid. The sesame dipping sauce is fine, but a mixture of Chinese vinegar (you rarely find this!) and chili sauce are good compliments. Cucumbers: These were more garlic-y then what I had in China, but are still good. Adding a little Chinese vinegar to them really takes them up a notch.

Total (not including tip) came out to approximately $49. What's Hot - Menu. Excellent. It's also written in Chinese in addition to English. For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.
