Dr. Tien is genius. My hubby woke up one day and could barely get out of bed. We made an appointment with Dr. Tien and as we were driving, my hubby winced in pain. Any little movement in the car, walking, anything, just made his whole body spasm in pain. We saw Dr. Tien that same day and after a few needles in the right places, he could move again! It was seriously amazing!!!!! I had my own experience when I stupidly moved a plant in my office. I felt a pain in my left lower back and was so painful to drive, walk or move. I fortunately had an appointment the next day, so after a few needles in my palm, I regained movement and was better the next day. Dr. Tien is a very kind and effective practitioner who is often looking out for the best in his patients. Gentle bedside manner and great communicator. I've seen him for the past 1.5 years even after I moved from San Mateo and he's always been good at listening and making sure to address issues at the root. The other day, muscles in my neck were so tight I could barely get out of bed, lie down, put on a jacket, and especially drive -- really everything was either impossible or took 5 times as long. I made a last minute appointment with him and after acupuncture (nowhere on my neck!), I already felt lighter and more mobile walking out of his office. As someone who is a service provider and works in health, I know how rare it is for service providers to be as consistently patient, generous, communicative, and courteous as Dr. Tien is (as the system is not stacked up in anyone but insurance providers' favor). Dr. Tien is very polite and gentle. He really cares about his patients with patience and a lot of attention. I feel safe with him. So far I only went visit him a few times, my primary health problem hasn't been resolved but my second health problem is improving a bit gradually. Dr. Lawrence has been a godsend to my daughter who suffers from migraines for several due to a concussion. We went to several Western Doctors and all they can do is prescribe pain killers and other drugs. These were temporary fixes and in some cases they did not even work, not to mention that migraine medications are expensive and made her sick. Dr. Lawrence took a holistic approach and found issues with her neck that nobody else did. According to my daughter, the acupuncture was not painful at all, a bit intimidating at first, yet she can't wait for her next appointment to make her feel better. My daughter used to have migraines weekly, but now she can go months before getting another migraine, which is 1000% better that before. Dr. Lawrence has a nice clean office that is conveniently located. He has really good bedside manners and will explain everything and answer any questions you may have. He is also an instructor in his profession. I have no problem recommending him to anyone. Dr Lawrence is AMAZING!!! I highly recommend him. I've always been a skeptic but a friend strongly recommended him for a back problem. I've had acupuncture in the past from a friend but it seemed more like a relaxing thing with little benefit. I was super impressed with Dr Lawrence's first assessment and he highlighted my pain was likely due to an imbalance in my back which he could show me. His manner is very calming and his care for you is palpable. Turns out my right shoulder was rotated forward causing other issues like my low back pain. This was caused by years of poor posture. Anyway, he's been working on me for 4-5 treatments and the low back pain is gone, the rotated shoulder is near normal! Its hard to describe but I can tell the treatments are working on me for several days later and I'm of course very aware of my posture now. I cannot be more pleased. I'm in fact a little bummed that he just told me we can on maintanance! read more

This was my first time having acupuncture treatment and I must say that it wasn't as bad as I thought. Dr Tien is very knowledgable and knows what he is doing. I have been to his office for a few treatments and I noticed a big difference after the first visit. I've seen Dr. Tien several times due to recurring lower back pain. Each time I visit his practice I leave with reduced pain and improved mobility. Similar to what the other reviewers mentioned, his number one goal is your health and he's not out to make an easy buck! Dr. Tien always gives me sound advice on how I can improve the health of my lower back such as certain exercises and proper posture. He tells me each and every time that he can't cure my lower back issues and that it's ultimately up to me do the necessary things to strengthen it, but when I do have a painful episode I know Dr. Tien will provide relief. read more

Dr. Lawrence was incredible! As a first time visitor to acupuncture, I am pleased with the procedure. Most of all, I am very pleased with the personal attention Dr. Lawrence gave me and his ability to make me fee comfortable. His office very clean, simple, and very comfortable. I went in very sore and not being able to turn my head much. By the end of the session, I was able to turn my head without much pain. Its not meant to be perfect at first, but I tell you, I am still amazed at how flexible my neck was and my ability to turn my head. With some advised neck exercise and some heat and possibly another session if needed, I'm confident I'll be back to normal. Dr. Lawrence explained everything in an understandable way. I was referred to Lawrence by a co-worker who had a kink in her neck and by the time she walked out of his office it was gone. I went to see Dr. Tien two month ago for my stomach ache. I found Dr. Tien a very knowledgeable, caring, considering and professional doctor. Lawrence is truly amazing. My neck went out and PT and meds did nothing day 1. I planned to return to PT day 2 (I am a PT so of course am a strong believer) but needed something that I would feel would give immediate, long-lasting relief. I'm luckily super healthy and never have had musculoskeletal pain or taken meds in my life. My friend referred me to Lawrence and I immediately got a good feel from him. He talked to me at length before I went into the clinic (he also went out of his way to fit me in). Well I hadn't eaten much and proceeded to pass out during the treatment! He took such good care of me after, including calling that evening and the next morning to check on me. The next morning I was significantly better. I went through all the western doctors such as urologist, neurologist, genocolygist, chiropractic, orthopedic and even I had a MRI. lawrence tien is wonderfully skilled in acupuncture and manual therapy. i had been to two others practicing acupuncture in the bay area, and neither of them can hold a candle to lawrence. my initial complaint of migraines is now under control. and several other complaints i've had since that one have been successfully treated. lawrence is a gentle man, easy to talk to, listens carefully, and asks questions to better understand you. he is happy to answer any questions about this over-two-thousand-year-old practice and explain the treatments. i so wish i had met him years ago! read more

I always look forward to my visits with Dr. Tien. He is very concerned for his patient's health and will do anything he can to help you. He offers a variety of non-invasive treatments as well as medication and injections. I have been going for acupuncture treatment many times, which have really helped with my ankle pain and leg.
