Stopped here on a whim. We had walked almost all day nonstop and needed to sit and eat a meal and rehydrate. It wasn't a great experience from the start. They have a "B" rating posted on the door which usually is enough to cause me to turn around but there aren't many sit down restaurants in the area so we took a gamble. It seemed reasonably frequented and clean from the dining room. The service left something to be desired. The first server was polite but after seating us with menus it was over 10 minutes before my husband flagged a server down to take our order. It wasn't busy enough to warrant the long wait. The servers are mostly in the cubby area where you can't see them. I'm guessing they were just hanging out?? Despite the service, the food was pretty good. Not great, not horrible. Just meh. For instance, the pan fried pork buns were beautiful but a little tough and dried out inside. The scallion pancakes were crispy but also rather tough. We had trouble getting a server to stop by our table for drink refills. The last waitress to stop had straight up attitude. Like we were inconveniencing her asking for water and napkins. It was bizarre. There were probably 2 other tables of people at the time and the space is large for the area, but there was nothing happening inside that explained where the servers were or what they were doing. Randomly we saw several different servers so they were short staffed, just rude and absent from the dining room. For the service alone, I would suggest avoiding this place. Also, if you do try this spot, CHECK YOUR RECEIPT carefully!!!! We noticed an automatic tip was applied to the check. We had two adults and a child in our party so an automatic tip being added on is weird. We were tired though and decided to just pay it and get out of there; however, when they returned the bill for signing, it suggested and additional tip on top of the tip we just paid!!! I recently visited NYC with my husband who had heard about a store that sold only chopsticks and ladies fans. Oh yeah, a must see! Everything was beautiful and so well crafted. Sadly we had to leave NYC the next morning to return home. Once settled in I excitedly opened my fan & display stand only to discover that my stand was broken. The store is tiny, but the lighting, decor, and displays indicate the reverence for chopsticks that these folks have. On first glance one might think this is a jewelry store, until you see the thin eating utensils gently propped against the satin backing of the brocade boxes in the window. The chopsticks here range in price & quality from $2.99 simple wooden ones to $185 set of gorgeous crystal ones. (If I was a famous rapper or something, this is definitely what I'm eating my take-out with!) A great gift idea would be the wooden chopsticks with "I Love New York" laser cut on them. Service is knowledgeable and friendly. We bought a simple set of four chopsticks but plan on coming back again to buy gifts or get ourselves something fancier. I needed to get a gift for my boss for a secret santa, and my GF came up with the idea of getting this Japanophile some chopstick holders - lots of people have chopsticks, but who has chopstick holders? Exactly. After visiting another store, we came here knowing they were super specialized. Looking around, we found what I was looking for, 5 chopstick rests. With the help of the employee, we picked out $25 worth of merchandise. I was hoping for some gift box or some way of preparing it, and that's where things went from good to WOW. She took a gift box from another set of chopsticks, then wrapped up each of the rests individually with tissue paper and tape, put more tissue paper in, closed the box, put the box inside of an awesome gift bag with more tissue paper. It went from a good gift to a "holy crap, that's a nice gift" in 5 minutes. All of this for no extra money. Anyone who buys things from Asian stores knows about the importance of good giftwrapping, and this is exactly that in spades. 5 stars for me! read more

The owners of this store need to do a much better job of educating consumers about some of their specialty chopsticks. I bought an attractive and expensive pair of white chopsticks capped with mother of pearl. After a meal with some chili paste I noticed they were stained orange/red and try as I might, I was unable to whiten them. At the store I was informed the material was ox-bone but the standard paper care instructions provided are only for wooden chopsticks and said nothing that was helpful (e.g. do not soak too long in water; only hand wash). The salespeople need to provide more instructions, verbally or written, for those chopsticks with highly absorbent properties. They have a NO RETURN POLICY. I guess it is hard to expect complete honesty from a store whose receipt has a non-working website and phone number. read more

It is expensive, but considering how much I spent on casual and formal silverware that's made out of stainless steel, it's actually not that big of a deal. Obviously, this store is not for everyone. In the Big Apple, though there are plenty of people who are looking to have the best of the best in everything they do. If you have friends who are dorks about setting their table impeccably, who host dinner parties and enjoys formal Asian setting this is an amazing gift. I don't really know if chopsticks are worth $20, or even $10 a pair. But going into this tightly packed nook in Chinatown and you lose perspective on what a pair of oversized toothpicks really cost. There are sets at Yunhong, made with silver and kinds of trees I was previously unaware of, that go for hundreds of dollars. So by the time you see those, $20 looks like a fine bargain. There are cheaper chopsticks sold here but what's the point of being sensible if you've walked yourself all the way to what's possibly the only chopsticks-only store in NY (Yunhong says this is their only American branch). It took me awhile to settle on a $24 box set of two-pair for a birthday gift. The price didn't bother me as much as trying to figure out which chopsticks would look like they were worth more than the other cheap chopsticks in my friend's utensil drawer.
