Ever since Papyrus shut down, Paper Source is the best lifeline I have for creative, colorful, interesting greeting cards. We all know snail mail is a lost art. I'm not into Hallmark, so this is the best I can do. This particular location is better than most I've found. The Grand Central location is pretty good, but this one is better. Tons of cards for all occasions. Gifts. Journals and notebooks. Small board games and card games. Fun little trinkets like socks, desk tchotchkes, tarot and horoscope stuff, calendars, etc. They have a cute cafe in back with snacks and a few cocktails. I bought almost 200 dollars worth of cards (no one said it was cheap) for all occasions. Great selection. All the employees were nice and helpful, and it didn't hurt to have rad 80s music playing in the background. read more

Tucked away between Soho and Chinatown is an unexpected Paper Source location. Since the great implosion of Papyrus and Kates Paperie closing down (most if not all) of their stores, it has not been as easy as it used to be to find a nice card shop that also wraps presents. Fortunately the ol' Yelp app helped me find this Paper Source location. This shop is interesting. It is not just a card and gift shop. It is also a cafe! The card/gift store is in the front and it is a very charming little shop. Don't turn too fast or you may knock something down. Things are really packed in. Then behind that is a small entrance to a cafe with a counter to the left and seating to the right. I did not go into the cafe that day but there were some lovely smells coming from it! It took a little bit of time to get the attention of the young lady behind the counter. She was *heavily* engaged in doing...something behind the counter. I just stood there waiting (not wanting to startle her) but other customers beat me to it. Once I had her attention she was more than helpful. I selected my gift wrap and waited for another employee to wrap the present. I was surprised by how long this took. The gift was a Barbie doll and it took over ten minutes to wrap. Mind you, it was *very* carefully wrapped and they did a great job, I was just surprised. The wrapping job cost $8 + the cost of the paper, which was a bit more than I am used to paying (another shop I've been to on the Upper East Side charges $5 + the paper). Still, I was in a rush so I went with it. Terrible customer! There were three women working at the time my family walked in. We were in the store for over 10 minutes and not a single person acknowledged us. We asked one of them if they sold stickers and one of the saleswomen immediately said, No. A minute later, we ended up finding whole tray of stickers in front of the register. My daughter then started to show me an item she wanted me to purchase but one of the saleswomen using a stool to stock boxes above the shelves told her to move over, so we just walked out since we had enough of their rudeness. Unfortunately, my nephew still bought his stickers but we will definitely not be returning to this store again. read more

Bad sales crew. I came to this store to wrap Christmas gifts and the sales people were extremely slow, didn't provide any valuable advice. I'm not sure, were they poorly trained? I needed a simple solution (I was also a bit in the rush to my live drawing session) yet their heads were in the clouds and they seemed to be unsure about their purpose and why were there in general. Paper was invented by the Chinese early second century AD, albeit the growing digital 2012 presence, it continues to be a novelty in the artistic and creative craft world. As an avid scrapbooker, I always seek new papers of unique texture, embroidered, flock, or 120 lb. card stock for my personalized handmade cards or to produce a 12" X 12" page in my scrapbook. Personally I despise mass produced generic greeting cards especially birthday cards for lack of individualism as it does not resonate from one's heart. For five years, now a chapter sadly closed, I was known as KP's Paper Princess. Paper Source did not disappoint for their selection, yet it abates in the high prices. This Spring Street location is relatively new to Soho unlike its older sister in Brooklyn's Smith Street. Their business cards are printed on 80 lb. Staff super friendly. Went to the stamps section and they had samples of stamps that were embossed. I asked the staff how the hell they make it look so cool. She kindly took me over to the craft table to do a demo, and I was sold! Brought a couple of stamps and a heat gun and some pigmented ink and card stock to make my own personalized cards for xmas and bdays. I would like to open this review with my strong, genuine gratitude to Jamie, the sales associate who didn't just sell me my wedding invitations, but inspired and empowered me to assemble them myself. Jamie greeted me promptly for my appointment and patiently went through what seemed like 100,000 wedding invitations in giant binders of torture. With each invitation, she explained the cost, accompany pieces, assembly, ways to cut costs etc. She was so mild yet thorough and knowledgable. Her wonderful personality really calmed my tremendous anxiety. Jamie recommended AND DEMONSTRATED (that's key, because I am not creative.. or smart... or pretty) double sided rolling tape, envelope liners and assembly of the invitations. She said it was "super easy" and told me I could surely do it myself. I said I'd have to consult with my fiancé before purchasing. She was just as cool and awesome and supportive despite not making an immediately sale. On a F-F-Freeeezing Valentine's Day 2016, Pete and I headed to SoHo so he could meet with Jamie and we could finalize the invitations. Over two hours later the invitations were FINNNAAAALLLLLYYYY ordered. We dropped four figures on them, but these things are expensive everywhere. I was happy to purchase from this lovely shop. I took the wedding invitation workshop this past weekend at this location. Overall, it was a fun learning experience especially going with a group of my girlfriends (one of them who is a bride-to-be). Here's my take on the workshop: Pros - Our instructor, Kate, was incredibly informative and fun to chat with. She told us she's very into weddings so she knew the ins and outs of everything involved in making invitations and etiquettes. - For $13.50 per person, it was well worth it, especially for a 2hr class. - It's an intimate class. I believe the max # of people they can take is about 10-12 people. - By attending the workshop, you get a 10% off coupon for purchases you make in the store on that day. Cons - While it was a 2hr workshop, I personally thought there was just too much talking for the first 1.5 hrs of the class. I actually appreciated that Kate told us ahead of time that she will be doing a lot of talking so I was kind of prepared for it. But I was really hoping that we would play around more with the crafty stuff during the entire class and not in the end. - It would be nice if there was a bathroom in the store because sitting there for 2 hrs is pretty long. I signed up for this workshop through their website and you get 10 or 15% off the class if you sign up with friends. Pretty good deal. read more

Paper heaven! This store seems to be the New Kate's paperie, just without the airs. Unfortunately, they are just as pricey as Kate's so only discerning paper lovers may find the price worthwhile. It's definitely a fun store to go browse. You'll find some beautiful and unique greeting cards if you're willing to pay the price. It's the only reason I won't give the store five stars since paper so beautiful should be affordable to more. Don't expect a Dick Blick experience. It's not cheap but the premium price is for quality, variety, and design. I used to get my stationary from Papyrus but after coming here, I don't think I'll go back there. At Paper Source, there are adorable, trendy, eco-friendly/human rights friendly cards ready for purchase or they have a huge assortment of paper for your arts and crafts needs. In my experience, men have never been crazy or impressed by cards. I go through the time to get the "perfect" card and usually it's followed by, aw thanks or that's nice. Well, I finally bought a card that my boyfriend honestly loved! It was an adorable card made of cut paper that said "You're the mac to my Cheese" and it featured a box of mac and cheese that said "So Cheesy." Ok yes, this sounds cheesy but if you could see this card, it's super cool. AND it's made by Phillipine women who escaped prostitution. That's a bold message to put on the back of a card but at the same time, it's awesome. There are real world problems out there and I'm happy to purchase a card that helps support human rights and the environment. My boyfriend really loved the card. He asked me where I got it and he said it was special. He also liked that my purchase helped in a good cause. He said he was definitely going to keep this card. This is my all time favor spot out of all the Paper Source locations. I love how bright, colorful, and well stocked this location is. 5 stars to the employees here as well. They are super friendly and helpful. I can stay here all day just to check out everything they have. What I like about this location is that the store space is tight BUT perfect. Your eyes are greeted by new things whichever corner you turn. Other locations, for example the Brooklyn, Smith street location is a lot bigger but too much empty space. One thing I do want to give the staff there a shout out is that -- they ask if you would like a bag. Don't take it for granted, some places just give you a bag regardless you like it or not. I declined to get a bag because I got something small and I have a bag. The cashier wrapped the delicate piece that I purchased and skipped a bag. He explained that it's for protection only. What can I say, I love Paper Source so much. Whether it's picking out a cute or witty card, picking up some wrapping paper, or just walking around and admiring all of the little trinkets the store has...this place is definitely one of my happy places. They have an amazing selection of cards for every occasion. I used to love Papyrus, but Paper Source has a better and funnier collection in my opinion. They also have beautiful sets of cards -- I recently bought blank cards with waves on them with gold foil. I always have to hold myself from buying everything in the store...sigh. They also have amazing wrapping paper and decorations! I bought a wall calendar for this calendar year that I absolutely adore -- you can make gift tags, gift boxes, and note cards after you're done with each month. I like the Soho location because it's a little bit easier to walk through than the other location I usually go to, which is in Chelsea. The location in Flatiron is also great. read more

So we looked up nearby stores that sells gift wrappers and gift boxes. Your store appeared to be one of our options, so we went there. One of your associates kindly walked over to assist us in finding the right box that we needed. When we went to check out, there were two associates at the register. Neither one of them were friendly or with a smile. As advertised in the store "leave the wrapping to us" so we did expect the associate to ask at check out if we needed assistance in wrapping the gift or if we found everything ok. Unfortunately my friend had asked if we can just have a tissue paper to stuff the box so we can put the gift in, she looked at us as if she was annoyed and grabbed that one piece of wrapping paper and stuffed it in the box. It felt very unwelcoming but she did thank us when leaving. I don't think we will be shopping there again. It's a store that is all about engagement and customer service especially when it comes to wrapping personal gifting and making it speacial but neither of the associates that were there friendly. Great location, great products, and -- similar to all Paper Source locations -- excellent, friendly staff. I stopped in here today because I was next door at the MoMA design store and saw that there was a good after-Christmas sale (50% off Christmas tissue paper, paper bags, cards, etc). I always find Paper Source products to be fun and colorful, especially their party decorations, greeting cards, and gift wrapping materials. Gorgeous papers and customizable cards if you're looking for wedding or birthday party invitations, though I haven't done that here before. Definitely keep an eye out for sales after Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. as they often have good deals. This particular store is shaped a little strangely - it's long and deep - but they use it well and every nook has something interesting. Highly recommend! I'll definitely be back. read more

Thanks to you I met Lisa... yes, the fabulous and amazingly talented Lisa (She runs the wedding invitation and save the date workshop) and she is not only super sweet but a master of the decorative paper arts. She popped my embossing cherry and I'll never ever be the same. #2. Your prices are always on target, I gotta say. You would think that name brand stores usually blow up their prices... but no. Everything in your shop is priced pretty fairly... and I looked online when I got home just to see. So another kudos there. #3. The shop is beautifully organized. Seriously. Now, Paper Presentation, I do love you but my word I always can get overwhelmed in there. Paper Source keeps the 'quaint shop' feet and keeps everything very logically organized so instead of an overwhelmed paper amateur, you are dazzled and enchanted by the possibilities that unfold for you at this amazing little shop. Insider tip: Great spot for the stationary DIY-er's out there. Whether its for your wedding or for your kids birthday... and especially for those who don't really know what they are doing... the staff is so incredibly helpful (amazing brainstormers) and you wont get overwhelmed, only excited. I'm from Cali, and we have a decent number of scrapbooking stores. I guess for NYC, it's a nice place to get stationary, but we have so many Michaels and Joann stores that it seems a little repetitive. Scrapbooking is my mom's passion, but I always go along with her to see what cute things they have. Store is nice and very well kept. Preparing for a wedding, you realize how much PAPER and STATIONARY costs. I had no idea I'd be spending so much of my budget on items that I assumed (wrongly) were cheap. The breaking point came when I realized I needed namecards for the rehearsal dinner... something I did not plan for and didn't want to spend a lot on. I came to Paper Source in a frenzy... I was looking for a stylish solution that was also cost effective. I saw some insanely expensive preprinted namecards here (I needed 50) and almost hyperventilated thinking about adding that amount to our budget. LUCKILY... I saw the navy blue Paper Source tent cards nearby... and realized, I can do my OWN design on this thing and save a ton of cash! I asked one of the friendly salespeople what I could do with this idea... she took the time out to show me how to do an easy heat embossing project. A serious demonstration followed where she showed me all my options and how to do it correctly - this saved my life. Not only did the tent cards turn out STUNNING (Navy cards with gold embossing), I got my then fiance (now husband) to help and it turned out to be a great, fun couples art project. read more

Great place for amateur crafters like me! I really like the pre-cut decoration kits like paper flowers for spring time or garlands for holiday season. They are pretty and simple to make. This place is also fun to just go in and browse to get ideas. They hold crafting workshops if you want a more in-depth crafting experience. They also have a great greeting cards selection. Assortments from wonderful small, creative letterpress companies. Their stuff is a bit pricey but you can find great things on sale, too! read more

I absolutely love the cards they have. They are so creative yet simple! Love the illustrations and the witty words! Everything is just so perfect about their cards! They also have the packs of 10 they sell for general occasions as well as for holidays and such. They have some very cute and neat things there too, although sometimes seemingly useless. When I need a card, I definitely go here, but even when I don't need anything, I would go in to see all the pretty little stuff they've got! I have not yet seen an angry or rude staff here. I typically buy their merchandise online, but thought it would be great to visit one of my favorite craft stores in person. To my surprise the sales women were accommodating and welcoming to all the white folk, yet turned an eye to people of minority. Growing up in NYC in the 80s, I've witnessed a lot growth and tolerance for diversity. I'm surprised that an establishment like this (in the heart of soho / diversity central) can employ a woman whose demeanor changes depending on the color of ones skin. Paper source has good selection of greeting cards. They have small gaggets that you can gift and also have variety of wrapping papers to choose from. They also offer card customization service for mass production! They aren't the cheapest but gets the job done. read more

I wish I hadn't walked into this gem, because now I will spend all of my paper on paper - here's why: pretty, pretty, papery wrapping paper, cards, envelopes, scrapbook paper, stamps, ink, pens gift bags, tissue paper, odds and ends The only downside is the location of the cash registers (2) - it is HIGHLY disorganized and inconvenient. If you charge for wrapping it better be fckn good! They make you buy the paper and the ribbon separate.. (I was stuck and had to get a wedding gift wrapped) . But this is very annoying, I mean this is your business, why make ppl buy things they don't need , quite frustrating. Then they charge 10$ for the actual wrapping .. So no matter how you put it you pay 25$ and over ... So I'm expecting so see super awesome amazing gift wrapping !! NO NO NO 1. It took over 30 min for the girl to wrap, definitely unexperienced (very sweet but unexperienced) 2. It looked bad ! 3. We felt bad , but asked to get it redone , the staff was very accommodating .. And actually the trainer was the nicest person, it was very important for her that we don't leave dissatisfied But it still took quite long, and I could have done it at home to look the same for sure . Went there to get some gift wrapping done. Wrapping was done exceptionally well. The wrapping paper was very high quality also. The staff was very nice and helpful. The whole process took about 10 minutes which I spent wandering around the store. They have so much cool stuff at this store! However, the wrapping did cost a lot. For a little box it came out to $20 but it was the coolest gift wrapping ever so I guess it was worth it. read more
