I called Yvette to have a bustle added on my wedding dress for my wedding which is in just over a month. I came in with my dress that day and she showed me exactly what my dress would look like and what she would be doing. I dropped off the dress that day after our consultation and she called me to pick it up a week later. The reviews are VERY misleading. I purchased a dress off the rack from a well versed wedding boutique that didn't have their own tailor. I was told by the boutique that 2 months before the wedding would be ideal since I only needed the sleeves taken up a bit and length hemmed. When I called Yvette and told her what I needed done. She rudely asked why I had waited so long. (My wedding was 3 months away). I explained what the boutique told me. She said she would take a look if I could bring it in. I should have read the signs. But she had such wonderful reviews, I decided to move forward. The appointment was at her residence. It was extremely awkward. She was very cold and made my mom and I feel very uncomfortable. It's almost as if she was unhappy to have us in her home. We remained very pleasant and respectful. My mom is Deaf and we use American Sign Language when communicating. Yvette for some reason was very uncomfortable with this and continuously asked me if my mother was really Deaf. This really upset me but I tried to keep it together. During the fitting, she immediately told me she was not qualified nor had the time to do it. She again was lecturing me for waiting so long. At this point, I just ended the conversation. With a smile, I thanked her for her time, grabbed my dress and we left. This experience made me dread the next tailor. A couple days later, I met with another tailor who was incredibly sweet, comforting and skilled. She was able to get my dress to me within a month, and it was amazingly done. In the end, Yvette is not a highly skilled tailor. And she should have been upfront about that - instead of just being rude to me. Mrs. Yvette runs her business out of her house. Let me just tell you, before you judge this little old lady... she is absolutely WONDERFUL. And probably has better hands than any of your local dry cleaners. I'm SO relieved that my gown was altered with care, that the fittings exceeded my expectations, and it was returned to me in a timely manner. There was a total of four appts/waves of altering. Taking in the corset, then hemming the bottom, bustle and 'I do' blue patch, then sewing in last minute straps. My gown is a corset with lace, which required meticulous alterations; it was no easy feat. I cannot recommend Yvette enough! She tailored my wedding gown in 2 months before my wedding and the quality of work was beyond amazing! (She also had it finished with an entire month to spare!) She was able to add cups, hem my wedding gown, add a bustle to both my dress and bow sash, and add hooks & buttons for the bow onto the dress to keep secure and the quality of work was amazing. AND her prices are very good, affordable and very fair. I paid a lot for my dress but didn't want to go to a retail tailor who overcharges and makes you feel rushed, or go to a dry cleaners where it might be cheap but then you're stressed about the quality. So I found Yvette! What I really loved is that she takes time to work with you. She makes sure you have enough time at your appointment so you don't feel rushed and takes her time pinning to make sure the fit is perfect. I purchased an off the rack sample gown and had seen Yvette listed for alterations by a local bridal consignment store. I drove 40-50 min each way for my fittings, even with closer seamstresses available, because of the reviews I'd read about Yvette. I only needed to hem the bottom, but my gown was a nightmare to shorten, with multiple layers underneath and on top, particularly the horsehair tulle that caused her to have to pull up from the top at the seam rather than shorten from the bottom. It was a LOT of work and the price was more than reasonable. Her work never compromised the look and effect of the dress, which was quite a feat when you have to lose 5 1/2 inches of skirt! I was initially going to have it altered by the shop where I purchased the dress, but after my first fitting didn't feel comfortable, so I found Yvette. She informed me that we were in the 'rush' timeline being only a couple of months out, but was very flexible with me and was able to get everything done on time. Being a part of the unfortunate trend, COVID brides, my fiancé and I went through postponing our wedding to at the last minute deciding to keep our original wedding date and elope! My biggest problem was my dress. No one would even look at my dress being a month away. Yvette gladly let me make a last minute appointment with her and accepted the job. My dress only needed hemming and a strap adjustment. Her price was beyond reasonable. She even finished my dress in a week and fixed some loose button loops on the back of my dress. I had found my Badgley Mischka wedding dress at a sample sale and was extremely nervous with its complicated beading and material. Yvette made my dress look better than I how I brought it in! This review is long overdue but better late than never! Yvette did a fantastic job on my wedding gown alteration. I found my dress one month before my wedding, and luckily it fit almost perfectly off the rack. I still needed it hemmed, bustled, and taken in slightly, but the first few places I called quoted me ridiculous prices for relatively minor alterations. I contacted Yvette to see if she could help me with a few alterations for my wedding gown after I was not comfortable at all in having alterations down through a local bridal shop. I must say Yvette is WONDERFUL. She is very knowledgeable, experienced, professional, patient, helpful, amazingly sweet and most importantly, caring. A bit about my wedding dress: it is a Paloma Blanca A-line gown with a French Alencon top and silk dupioni skirt bottom. I had spoken with her by phone to see if she would be able to change the neckline, add bra cups, possibly take up the hem, fix a few missing buttons, and add a bustle. After I first met with her to show her the dress, she suggested that I not modify the neckline because the flower design in the scalloped lace material would not look as nice if modified. She pointed out that she would have had to cut into the flower design that was actually centered very nicely on the dress, which then I realized she was right! I trusted her suggestion and heeded her advice - we decided to not modify the neckline afterall, and I felt reassured in knowing why. I didn't have my shoes picked out at the time, so I scheduled another time in which I could meet with her for a fitting. She shared several helpful tips to make my A-line gown look better at the bottom (and slightly fuller) by considering a crinoline slip. And again, she was right! I went out to another local bridal shop to get the A-Line slip (and bra cups) and ended up liking the look much better. We didn't need to do any major hemming because the dress had already fit me pretty well. Pretty cool! Yvette did help me see the various options for the bustle. We agreed that the underbustle was nice, which required taking up the hem to just the lining underneath. She also mentioned how she would fix the missing buttons and secure the current ones better, in addition to how she would press my dress by hand. When I went to pick up my dress, I was so impressed!!! She did an amazing job and I couldn't have been happier to have found such a caring person who takes pride in her work. I am getting married in June 2017. About 5 months before the wedding I started to look for a place to get my dress altered. I found Yvette online. Yvette finished the alterations on my dress in less than a month (which I didn't expect b/c most places I found said it could take 4-5 months). I had 3 visits - the initial one to speak to her about what I wanted to get done and what the cost would be, the 2nd one to make sure the length and other minor items were as I would want and to pin things up for her to create my bustle, then the last one in which everything had been completed and I could take my dress. Yvette was professional, sweet, quick, and did excellent/quality work. I would recommend her to anyone. It was a bit pricey but not really more than what you would pay at any other skilled seamstress that does work on wedding dresses. She does work out of her home but do not let that deter you. She has a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood. Yvette brought in the waist of my dress so it could show my hips/shape, shortened my dress a lot (I am 4 ft 11 in), created a bustle, fixed a small tare in the back of the inside of the dress, sewed up the ribbon (that kept opening up at the stitch) for the corset on the dress, added a bit of velcro behind the buttons above the open back of my dress to make sure the top would stay closed (since the buttons kept coming loose), and tucked in and sewed up the arms a bit as it was a little long at my shoulders. I bought my dress 2nd hand from someone who was selling their dress. It was not a designer gown. Yvette made the dress look like it was a designer gown and like it was made just for me. I have been calling Yvette an angel since the first time I called her...not kidding. I am having my wedding in Italy and was anxious about getting my dress hand pressed and traveling with it. Yvette beautifully hand pressed my dress as well as got it ready for travel by pinning the train to the dress to prevent wrinkles and pinning the top half of the dress to a plastic bodice (both of which I did not consider doing, and was thrilled with her idea). In addition to getting my dress ready, she noticed that the cups inside my dress were not sewn in well by the person who did my alterations - one was nearly falling out! She pointed this out and sewed them in correctly for me. Thank goodness she noticed. My experience with Yvette made me wish I found her earlier so she could have done my alterations. Yvette is a professional dressmaker and seamstress in the old school tradition. She is fastidious and takes great care in her work. Yvette shortened my wedding gown and added a bustle, and then pressed it and the veil and had them ready for me the Thursday before the wedding. She is an expert, and it shows in how she knows her fabrics, how she measures, and the care she takes in every detail, including things like showing me how to zip the dress bag to avoid pinching the dress. She called me the morning of the day I was to pick up my dress at 5, because rain was scheduled to start at 5 and she was concerned the dress might get wet between her house and the car. She recommended I come early. She is very reasonably priced for the level of skill and quality. I called her to schedule a first appt 6 months out, but she advised me not to come until 3 months before the wedding to be sure my weight was stable. Things like that.
