Mean-spirited manager manages ZTBC... making it sometimes more like a dis-respectful place...they don't follow some of common protocols and practices in service industries. It could be better than this because it does have its strength: Coaches are kind to people in general, and they trained some very achieving youth national champions. Even though those achieving players are only a few, and are irrelevant for majority of other players there. The place would become better if the mean-spirited manager would be let go. read more

Pros: 1. I found empty court to play in with 9 wait. 2. Decent quality racket was available for rent 3. Different varieties of shuttles in different price ranges we're available to buy. 4. Court was in playable condition. 5. In some other courts, small kids were playing and they were really good at their game. Definitely fun to watch them play. 6. They have a wall of Fame with one person mentioned as having played and won medal in Olympics from the place. Really inspiring. Cons: 1. Except for one person, no one else knew English. 2. There was some smell (not very strong) in the court. Maybe from carpet. Some ventilation would definitely help. 3. Drop in charge + 2 rackets rental + shuttle box pack did add up to decent amount of cost. 4. Monthly membership is more expensive than my gym - felt weird about that. 5. All courts had a lot of tapes all over - as if repaired. I think they need money for overhauling the place. Neutral: Everyone except us, be it players or the people helping, was Chinese. Zzz, that will be you sleeping on Saturdays if you go. Saturday/Sunday will be the worst days to come to Z because of how packed it is. There are badminton lessons going around and multiple waves of little Asian high school kids practicing for their badminton games. The courts are alright but the windows on ceiling sometimes would blind the living crap out of you. Forcing you to stop drop and roll until you can see again. The fee for adults is $7 and for kids under 18 is only $5. There are many training classes for your kids from your baby mama's. Your kids would be so good at badminton they can be the next Lin Dan. One time my cousins and I even saw a little girl cry because the training was that intense. In conclusion Z is a good place to practice or play badminton with your homies. I have been coming here once in a blue moon. It is a smaller gym with 8 courts so on busy days there will be a wait, sometimes very long. This is the same for every other gym. It can get annoying if you are there and there is a training class. So hopefully when you go there is no training class. For the most time when I was there people will play you, but you have to be assertive and ask who is next on the court. Z badminton is a bit more attractive than others because for adults it is $7, while CBA which has more courts is $9. For high school badminton kids it is $5. I will have to warn you. DON'T BUY THE OFF BRAND FEATHER BIRDS FROM THERE !!!! I purchased one tube at a rip off of $22 and they majorly sucked and flew all over the place in different directions, speed was too fast, feather fell off in 4 hits. Just a bunch of shitty birds. If you are going to buy these just buy plastic at least it flies better. For feathers only purchase the Yonexx or Aeroplanes. If you can get this somewhere else like a AK badminton it would be a cheaper. read more

If you're not part of the regular crowd and if you don't know your way around, it gets pretty awkward... What's a sample of awkward like? Well, I sat on a bench that a couple just vacated. They stopped briefly in their serious badminton playing to stare at us. We stared back in a questioning look (it's an empty bench, we're assuming that we can sit on it). They resumed their play and we continued to wait for our turn. I looked around and noticed that the couple had the same phone as my friend and I pointed at it. Just random conversation to pass the time. My friend's phone come from overseas and is pretty expensive so I was intrigued that someone else had the same phone. I guess pointing is pretty bad too, because seconds later, the couple comes back towards us and snatches their open bag that had the phone and moved it away from us, then returned to their court and resumed play. I guess we must have looked THAT ghetto. I guess it's not as bad as the treatment this black guy got. He went in and asked for a restroom, the front guy told him there was none...when the restroom was literally 7 feet away from the guy. He must have been too ghetto looking too. Bottomline: I bet this training center is WONDERFUL for people that are in the "IN" crowd. The place is not stinky at all. Lots of room. People are cordial. Players are civil. But I'm not in the "IN" crowd so I'm not sure I'll pay $7 to play there again. I'm not really super hard core badminton chick so I might invest in a net. read more

This place does not deserve any stars beyond one. It has only 8 courts, which is less than most other places I have been too. Worse yet, quite a few are always taken by private lessons as well as a big crowd of high school students that camp there for hours. It is pretty hard to find a court to play on most of the time, at least for someone who has a job and can only play on weekends or night time. The owner seems to care about collecting money only. Once you purchase membership or passes, it is none of their business whether you have a good experience or not. I am not sure who are those people who rated the place five stars. They must be seeing a different gym :-) I just want to share my experience with those who are considering to purchase a membership. I wish I could get a refund and go elsewhere instead. read more

Another great badminton place! They only have 8 courts, but when we went there for the first time, I could count the players with two hands. We played at two courts doing singles. It was fun! Definitely the best workout. You're going to sweat out, so don't forget to have extra shirts and towels. We didn't use the computer because there were not much people at that time. I'm sure it gets crowded at some point, and we got lucky. There's plenty of parking space, convenient! I'd definitely go back for more. read more

I frequented this place a lot during high school, as it was just two blocks or so from my house, and I can just walk there and hit. Great facility, although the lighting can be a douche sometimes. The location is kind of janky, seeing it's in a warehouse, but it's the closest place around. It is really cheap to hit here, compared to a ton of Bay Area badminton spots. The owner is really friendly and I trained with her. It can get really stuffy in there during the Summer. read more

this place is great.. It is near James Logan HS. and in the middle of a warehouse. The place is cheap, 5$ or 7$ depending on the day. There is about eight courts, its clean and well lit. The place gets crowded.fast. They have classes. Every 20 minutes courts change, or you can play for the court. You can check the computer for a court. The people are friendly. read more

This is a terrible rip off badminton center. They charge you $120 for 10 times you can use this facility. Ok fair! But the facility is reserved for training on most evening uptill 9 PM and you are supposed to rotate on one court with 40 people every 20 mins! Watttey rip off. Mom and I always went to this badminton court to play:) We purchased the monthly pass and always go there during daytime. Therefore, we never worried about finding courts. The environment is great, very clean and well maintained by the owners. The lighting is good too! read more

Was beginning to like it... BUT there are older Asian Men who play here (good Badminton Players) who do NOT care for the rules in a timed - take your turn - court system. You respectfully tell them their time is up, and that its your turn... and the 2 of them move themselves over to the other half of the court (yes, the same court), signaling maniacally with their badminton racket - that they will play in half of the court and that we could only use the other half of the court -- even though there were 3 of us looking to play OUR TURN on the court. Whatever chinese faint words they tried to utter - basically said... 'so what, if its your turn - both of us want to play... so screw that computer timer!'. If only players respected the rules and someone monitored the place... UNDISCIPLINED players are BAD for business! read more

I haven't played badminton since highschool....holy crap, 9 years ago! I decided to tag along with some of my friends who wanted to check this place out... first impression- interesting big warehouse full of asian people that are hard core about this game. $7 is seriously a lot more money than I wanted to pay to hit around some birdies... I'd rather go hit around 100 golf balls at the range. Yes, everyone stares at you when you walk in...assuming because your not a "regular", but after we found an open court and hit a couple birdies into a court next to us, people were friendly enough to give us back our birdie with out giving us dirty looks. Will I be coming back? maybe if my friends and I have about 3+ hours of free time.... but if time doesn't permit, then I'd rather spend my $7 some where else. This place is good for those who want to train or take lessons for badminton. Today was a good day for me because the place wasn't packed as other reviews says. The courts are big and spacious for the players to move around a lot which I think is good for me to build more stamina and speed. The drop-in admissions are affordable for the whole day which is $8 for adults and $6 for youth, you must present your ID before entering. Be sure to bring a jacket or hand warmers is you can as it is very cold in the building. Overall it was a good day to come and I have fun! Owners do no speak a lick of English. Sign says under 18 students only $5. We brought our very young siblings who look like they're 10 years old and asked us for ID or they would charge adult price. What kind of kid at that age carry around IDs? And it's quite obvious they aren't over the age of 18. There are rarely ever open courts as they kick off their customers in reservation for their kids who are training, understandable, but don't force us to pay full price without any knowledge of if we'll ever get a court or sit around for 2 hours without knowing if we'll ever play, some of us have lives and schedules. read more

This place used to be the place to go for badminton back when it was called APAC. Now it suck! I mean yes it offer classes for badminton now which is great for the kids, but horrible for the customer. Every time we come here there's a class and no court for regular drop-in customer to play at all!!. I mean at least close the dam place for your class then reopen for drop in or something, just taking in all customer when there's no court is just show that there's a greedy manager running the place read more

I've been to this badminton court many times before, but sorry to said its getting worse over years. The floor was coming off so you can feel the uneven ground which can cause injury while playing. It seems they are getting more & more classes than before, I called before we come and the lady told me no class tonight and yet when I was there I saw many students are practicing which only left few courts open. I bought a 10 times pass but can't use it because they put an expiration day on it, wait a minute I prepaid to play and now I can't use it. I was try to reason with the lady in front but she don't speak English. Why would you had someone in charge front desk yet can't communicate?!?! All she know is pay "cash". Overall I feel like I went into another country while I was there. This will be my last time here.. read more

Courts are in bad shape and have see people getting injured. Also lot many courts have training hours coinciding with late evenings and weekends. If it hadn't been for membership and longer distance to travel to other nearby courts, I would have stopped playing here. $9 for adults, $7 for students with a high school ID. There is a surcharge when you pay with card, so you're better off bringing cash. Z is easily the worst place to play badminton based on the evident lack of maintenance and cleanliness for the entire place. The mats should have been properly repaired years ago, but instead, the management just slaps on measly strips of tape and consider it problem solved. Sure enough, the tape in time starts to peel off which becomes a potential tripping hazard. On top of that, the mat themselves are SO slippery, even with badminton shoes, which are designed with no slip bottoms. It's as if all the courts had just been polished with grease or wax. Just yesterday my boyfriend slipped and fell mid-game because the floors were so slippery. I would have loved to voice a complaint to the front desk, but unfortunately no one speaks English. How can you possibly run a business if you can't even communicate with your customers beyond "hello" and "thank you"? The bathroom is pretty much equivalent to a gas station bathroom: filthy and foul-smelling. But at least a gas station bathroom has toilet seat covers and running hot water. Z has neither. Z has a long way to go in terms of maintenance and cleanliness, so I'd suggest you find somewhere else to play. read more

This place would probably be 2 or 3 stars on a regular day. I've only gone to Z badminton a handful of times. Like most badminton clubs, it's in an old warehouse so it's always ridiculously cold. It gets points for being close to where I live when i'm home for the holidays. Loses points because the walls are way too close to the court on the back side. The mats are also starting to lift off the ground in certain areas and the nets are not always taut/the right height. They don't really have a good system for assigning court times. Apparently there was a computer system that was down today but I've never seen it used in the past either though usually didn't have an issue. It's also run by this lady who can't really speak English. Anyway, today my boyfriend and I decided to go play. We showed up and saw a class was going on. So we were concerned and figured we better ask what the court situation was like before we paid our $7pp. After communicating in broken mandarin and english, we decided probably wasn't worth it and told the lady we would come back later or another time. She just wasn't being clear about which courts would be available for us to play on and when. So we headed back to our car and was looking up UBC and CBA hours on our phones and the lady chased us down and said we could have half a court to play or play doubles with the other two people on the court. She must have really wanted our $14. Half a court was all we needed so we acquiesced. less than ten minutes after we were playing, a couple kids from the class came up to us and said "we have class!" i was like.. "uhh.. we were told we could play here and already paid to play here." then another lady who was helping with the class told us to use half of another court that already had 4 adults and 3 kids playing on it. she told us to play doubles and i was like, uhh.. with who. then i said you know, we can leave, just give us our money back so the two families can play with their kids. but she convinced the families to take half the court. so we played for about 45 minutes with the kids occasionally running dangerously around. and was subsequently kicked off by a horde of other people that showed up and were apparently also waiting for the single court not taken by the class (had my back turned so not really sure when they showed up). Oh also, maybe it was my lack of understanding, but I thought the lady said the class would end at 5 and it was still going strong at 5:30. If it weren't for the convenient location, I would not be going here! read more

My son goes to ZBTC and he loves it there. He was trained somewhere else but made little progress. Under Coach Zhou, however, my son has improved a lot. Every weekends, he's looking forward to his training. Although the facility at ZBTC is not necessarily the best in the Bay Area, Coach Zhou Lei certainly is. She was a World Champion and is now a head coach for team USA. No wonder her students have won so many golds... My son is not that good yet - he will someday - hopefully. read more

Coach Zhang, you need to get rid of your parents running the business. This is America. They need to speak English. They need to have an accounting system. You don't give out a receipt hand-written on a piece of torn paper (or napkin). Asking for a check payment payable to CASH is also a no no. There is no way you can expand this business if you count on your parents who doesn't speak English to run it. Let me suggest one more thing. Let the parents who pay you the money to play FREE. They pay a lot of money for their kids to join. This is not a cheap sports to play. Shoes $100+, rackets $200+, re-stinging $25, and every lesson is what? $30 for a hr or so? $120 half hrs for "private lesson" is such a joke. Also, the kids are tired of your old beat-up birdies. You need to replace them often. Oh, put a real-time camera on your site so that people can tell how busy your courts are before they come. GET RID OF YOUR PARENTS! read more
