It was a Saturday night and we were meeting up with friends for dinner. I had read a good review on Zaagmolen and thought to give it a try. Unfortunately, we didn't think it was as good as the review had said.
Food: It's a set menu of either 5/4/ 3 courses. The menu/food was very old school French. The dishes in general were VERY traditional, not innovative, nor refined. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE traditional French food, but this missed the mark. In my opinion, you either have to do traditional French perfectly or don't do it at all...or at least put a twist on it somehow.
Drinks: We ordered two bottles of white wine and one tea.
Price: Total 239.00 EUR. Three of us took the 5 courses @ 44.50 EUR and one of us took the 4 courses at 39.50 EUR along with our wine and tea. Pricing is not that bad for what you receive.
Service: Very casual and fine overall although when my husband said he didn't like beets (beets were the first dish on the menu) and the woman tried to talk him into trying the beets instead of saying "no problem, we'll make you something else". But my husband stuck to his guns and they gave him some other "Italian vegetable" that looked similar to a courgette.
Ambiance: It's a nice ambiance and feels like you're in someone's home. It's a pretty quiet restaurant and not lively.
Would I go back? No. It's a bit too old school for me. It reminded me of eating in a French restaurant in the 80s. read more
