I was just there the other day for the first time and while the food was as good as any other Mexican place I went to the wonderful thing was selection. The menu is quite vast compared to other places and the prices were good. The burrito dinner I got was excellent the beans that came with it were amazin although the rice was fairly average. I work within walking distance of this place and we go here at least once a week. The food is fresh, cooked perfectly, and very delicious. Besides the typical Mexican fare, they also do burgers (which are pretty good, believe it or not) and a other sandwiches including the River Grove Chicken sandwich that consists of grilled chicken on a pita with dressing, bacon, apples and guacamole. Awesome. My favorites are the chicken flautas, burritos, tortas and the River Grove chicken. The steak taco salad is also delicious. I'd even drive here on weekends if it weren't for the great Mexican food in my neighborhood; on the south side. Don't let the two and three star reviews sway you away. Zacatecas in Franklin Park.....fantastic. Stumbled on this restaurant, totally by accident.....am I glad we did. The flautas, chicken or beef, loved it, crispy, delicious. I have gone here for dinner with my family and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I ordered rice with shrimp and it was really well made. The customer service was also very great because they spoke both English and Spanish and they seemed very professional. All the workers were very kind and I definitely recommend people to come here. Even if it can be pricey sometimes it is definitely a good place to eat with friends and family. read more

I used to absolutely love this place. However, since they moved locations I feel that the quality has greatly diminished. The fajitas are beyond delicious, WHEN they are good. I love Mexican Food and I live in the area.. so I thought I would check it out. The exterior of this restaurant is misleading.. It is much nicer and bigger inside. It looks smaller outside but there is actually a dining room with Mexican art that was very nice. First of all, the chips and salsa were mediocre. The salsa was not chunky and was very watery. The chips were greasy. The rice was bland. One thing that was VERY GOOD... was the Tortilla Soup. I was surprised.. I was battling a cold and I ordered the soup and it tasted homemade with fresh pieces of celery. The soup was that good.. I really wish the other entrees on the menu were as good. Overall I have been to better Mexican restaurants.. I would however keep coming here for the soup.. plus I live down the street.. The wait staff was nice.The food here is not that memorable. First of let me say the food is mediocre but the service is good, and that's why im giving it 3 stars instead of 2. I ordered the burrito dinner , with a steak burrito, Mexican rice and re-fried beans . The burrito was ok , but I hate it when they chop up the meat into teeny tiny pieces (which detract from being able to get enough flavor) and it didn't seem like there was hardly any cheese in it. The rice was ok but it needs some vegetables in there or something, and the refried beans were from a can probably. The chips and watery bland salsa were forgettable. I've had worse Mexican food and I've had great Mexican food , this falls somewhere in between. In the end this deserves 2.5 stars but i will round up to 3 because its close and has good and friendly service. If they made a couple of improvements, I would consider them my favorite in the area, but its unlikely id go there as a first choice. read more

This place is horrible!!! The last two times I've ordered for pick-up they've messed up my order. The most recent time the sent us home with someone else's order and I didn't realize until I had gotten home. I called and they put me on hold for about 10 minutes and accused me of not knowing what I ordered and insisted they gave me the right thing (I can tell the difference between beef tacos and steak tacos along with the difference between nachos and chips and salsa, thank you). After being put on hold they finally said they would deliver the correct order to my house. Since I only like about 3 blocks away, I assumed the order would be there within 15 minutes or so. Fourtyfive minutes and no food later I called back and they told me to come pick up my money and forget about my food. I will NEVER eat here again and suggest you don't either! read more

Food's mediocre at best, waitresses have been pretty much rude every single time we've been there, and the prices on the menu are usually different then what they actually charge you. I love this plac. One of my favorite Mexican places around. I always go for Margarita Nights on Tuesdays. Their margaritas are always good and strong. The food has always been excellent. I have yet to try something there I didn't like. I've had a couple of the steaks, fajitas, quesadillas, tacos, and they've all been very good. I will keep going back reguarly and highly reccomend it. The tortas here are delicious! The food comes out hot and ready to eat, within a matter of minutes. The complementary chips and salsa is also a bonus when dining in. The meat has a good, unique flavor that I find hard to compare. The price is pretty standard for most tortas within the area as well. We ordered for delivery today. I got the steak guasadilla and my co worker got a breaded steak torta. I also got a side of guacamolie. It was great. The guac was really fresh and tasty and the chips were fresh. The guasadilla was excellent and the torta was just as good. Plus we were busy and could not get out to go pick up so they delivered for $2 and was here really fast. Would recommend to anyone who needs a quick work lunch. I too wanted to like this place since it was so close to home. The food was just OK. but the service was what really terrible. They need to find someone who was actually a waitress. I ate here by myself and was made to feel very unwanted. There was only one other table of customers when I arrived and there were two waitresses. I was rushed through my dinner. My soup and dinner were brought at the same time, less than 5 minutes after ordering. I did complain that I was unable to eat my soup since I wanted the dinner to be warm when I ate it. My water glass was never refilled although the other table got much attention. I ordered the enchilada verdes which were swiming in sauce, way too much. The sauce was also covering the beans which made this inedible as well. Not once was I asked if things were OK. Based on service alone I will not return. read more

I've been going here for quite awhile but it's going down hill fast. The last two times the soup tasted more like warm water and they no longer serve any steak on their luncheon specials. Even offered to pay more but I had to buy the dinner if I wanted steak and even then had to pay extra for the meat. The are also limiting the salsa to one small (about 1-2 ounces) per table... Can't believe the bad reviews I read here. This place is great - EVERYTHING my husband and I have had here has been great. The waitresses are nice and friendly and the service is fast. The salsa is tasty and the chips are fresh, not greasy. They make the BEST chicken fajitas in the WORLD, their chicken flautas and chicken enchiladas in mole are wonderful, as is the Pombazo (if I spelled it correctly). I had my food delivered and it was very good, but the corn tortillas were all stuck together and that made them hard to eat with the meal. And I was disappointed with the size of the guacamole and chips. You should get more than a small Styrofoam cup of guacamole for six bucks, but the tortilla chips were excellent. read more

I need to retract my previous review. PLEASE read this entire review. Yes, the order was screwed up and the person that answered did get just stupid. Now, I'm quite sure this was dealt with. And yes, I still hate ground beef burritos and sloppy joes. After my last complaint review, Alex from Zacatecas did yelp me back. I guess this whole bad thing could have been avoided if we asked for a manager from the initial problem. My bad. Alex listened and apologized for the mix up of our order. He was GENUINE during the conversation and truely wanted to correct the issue. Alex did send us our initial order this evening on the house. Again, I wasn't looking for the free food. It was great that I was aknowledged as a customer with concerns. Yeah, the steak burritos were awesome as usual. We will definitely will continue to patronize Zacatecas.
