There are many non-food smells that can remind you of other things: new cars, fresh-washed laundry, newly mown grass; lumberyards; and leather. Zack White Leather Co, as the name suggests, has that last one in abundance. When I walked in, it smelled like a new car, my favorite cold weather coat, my college roommate's horse barn, and my first pair of leather boots. Except for the new car, this store had just about all of the other things and everything I'd need to make my own of all of it, had I the artistic skill to do so. Yes, there's leather here and it's not all white. And it isn't all leather, but has a link to leather. It's like a tack shop, leather hides and skins fabric shop, and craft shop all in one building. There's leather by the piece, leather already assembled in a vest, jacket, pants, bags, belts, holsters, dog collars and leashes, plus patterns and kits for wallets, key rings, bags, belts, gun belts, book covers. I also saw shoe soles (cobblers of the world, unite!). There's leather by the piece in colors, but there are also leather dyes and stains if none of the existing colors work, imprinting supplies, tools, buckles, grommets, conchos. . .and more. The WORST customer service. Ten years ago I had a leatherworking business and used Zack White exclusively, never had a problem even when I had to call about something. I needed some leather for a personal project so I decided to use them again. My order arrived incomplete. I opened a trouble call on the website to find out what the status of the missing item was. 10 full days passed with no response of any kind. I called Zack White and was greeted by the rudest customer service I've ever experienced. Extremely short and unprofessional, her attitude has put me off from shopping here again. Please beware of this company. My husband ordered a belt for me from their Etsy shop, where they are called Maxwell Leigh Leather. When it arrived it was much too big, although I measured and ordered carefully according to their instructions. I contacted them to ask about exchange options. They ignored the message until I opened a case with Etsy. Finally they answered to send the belt back and they would send a replacement. The original purchase was December 2022, I sent it back March 2023. I heard nothing from them and got no replacement. I contacted them again and finally in the end of March they acknowledged receipt of the belt and told me they'd put it in the "wrong bin", but would send a replacement. It is now July 2023 and they never sent it. They ignore all messages sent through Etsy. I called the company and the nastiest, rudest person I have ever spoken to in my life answered. She was aggressive and mean and would not listen to what I had to say at all. Finally I got angry with her and she hung up. I left a message for the owner to call and he has not called back. Please stay away from this business, they are dishonest and unethical and have no problem lying to and stealing from customers. read more

I'm a professional leather crafter, specializing in gun holsters, belts, and specialty equipment for shooting competition or just carrying. I'm 81 years old and have been at this craft for more than 60 years. I know leather. I've been buying hides and other supplies from Tim Cox, owner of Zach White Leather, for a few years now. A recent incident has convinced me to use other sources for supplies, and no longer give Tim Cox my business. I made a typical purchase of hides. After cutting them into my pattern shapes and wetting them for further shaping, they immediately revealed black mold, making them unsafe to use. I consider this a defect in the tanning process, and reported it to Tim Cox, expecting him to stand behind his product. Instead, he refused to exchange the defective leather, and told me the problem is mine. I will never again purchase anything from Tim Cox at Zach White Leather. Buyer Beware!! read more

I haven't even seen the product yet and I would never order from this company again. I like supporting small and as local as possible business, but I didn't expect to be ignored. I am astonished to pay $16 shipping, but since i needed it fairly quickly I chose Zack White rather than an overseas leather company that could ship the next day... I emailed to find out when I could expect it to ship and got no response. I emailed again, not demanding faster action just wondering if I should have it shipped where I am traveling this weekend, since i needed it for sandals I'm making for the trip. No response. I then called to ask what average turnaround is, and she was curt and rude. Still no reply to my email and since I lost all confidence I would receive my order before leaving or even while I'm gone, I had to order from amazon and cut to width what I need. I spent as much on shipping as I did on the product itself. Maybe this is how they're making up for lost repeat customers? If I had checked yelp reviews first (I wish I had!)I would not have chosen this company. I don't even use yelp, but others need to know before ordering. read more

My last two orders from Zack White have had issues. The first order was taken by phone by a sales person. The nest day the credit card was charged. One week later the item order had not arrived. I called for a status and was informed that the item was never in stock and had been ordered with no idea when it would arrive. The second order was placed online. The order was shipped promptly but when it arrived one item provided was the wrong size. I sent an email and got a prompt reply saying that they would ship the correct size. Seven days later I have received nothing so I called for a status. Again the item was out of stock. In both cases there was no notification that the item was out of stock, the credit card was billed and the lady who took the calls was less than helpful and could not understand why I had an issue with the service provided. read more

The first time I ordered from Zack White Leather I could not have been more pleased. I received good quality products in a quick and timely manner. Since that first order, and I have stuck it out for a few years now, everything has gone down hill. I placed an order and they added a quart of dye to the shipment. I wasn't charged for it (only shipping), but the order wasn't right. We talked that one out. I ordered knife cases. When I hadn't received notification they had been shipped within about a week and a half, I called. They still had to cut some, but would get them to me shortly. I ordered 6. I received 11. Again they got the order wrong. Again we talked it out and squared accounts. I placed an order for leather along with two tools. The leather showed up about a week and a half later. The tools were back ordered on the billing manifest. No notification from Zack White mind you, just a notation on the invoice. After three weeks I got one of the tools, finally. In the meantime, I placed a large order for leather. Guess what? The order never shipped. I waited a month for hides and materials calling several times only to find out that they had problems with their supplier, but my stuff would be in that day. Wouldn't you know it, the weight I ordered didn't come in, but they were picking it up that afternoon and it would ship in a few days. I finally called and canceled my orders, only to find out the tool I had ordered 3 months prior finally shipped, but when I got it, you guessed it, it wasn't the one I ordered. I thought I had found a good family owned company I could grow my business with, each one working with the other. I really wish they would been a little bit more communicative, concerned about their customers, and paid a bit more attention to their orders. I've been leathercrafting for over forty years, bought a lot of leather, dealt with several companies, but I have never been as disappointed in one as I am with Zack White Leather. read more
