My husband and I just moved to Johnson City and prior to the move we picked out a sofa and loveseat from another furniture store (which I won't name). After a month of the items being on backorder, I finally asked said store for a refund and headed to Zak's. A bit salty and without furniture, I explained to Zerina we needed something ASAP. My husband is very tall and doesn't feel comfortable on most couches. We explained this to her and she directed us to some pieces to try out. I like stylish and my husband goes for comfort. HORRIBLE customer service. Their one-year warranty and extra warranty you purchase are useless. They do not follow through on anything and then will gaslight your into thinking you did something wrong. Not family friendly furniture as we were told the warranty's were not valid because they could see dog hair on the furniture, we moved, our toddler must have caused damage, etc. over 10K wasted on what was supposed to be great furniture and "family owned" service. read more

Purchased $3,000 worth of furniture less than 24 hours ago, Angela Bragg (sales associate) calls me 45 minutes before the store is scheduled to close and tells me they gave away my couch! THEIR warehouse sent the wrong color loveseat to another customer who just so happened to make the purchase 10 days before I did- they gave her my loveseat AFTER it was paid for. Manager Terry Copeland was unprofessional. Emailed the President Scott Bowman and instead of responding he responded online- No contact with the customer at all, not even a phone call. I bought a massage heat chair a year ago and started having problems with it in November I called and they told me to just let it run even though it's making a noise finally got someone to come look at it and he said he would order the part. I went 2 months and didn't hear anything I called back and they said it was on backorder and didn't know when and if they could get the part so I kept trying to get ahold of someone to help me get a refund or something for the thousand-dollar chair that I had bought and paid $100 for a 5 year warranty. one of the supervisors finally got in touch with me and said he would send somebody out to get the chairs so he can look at it he has had it a week tomorrow and I have not heard anything from him zaks is a joke!!! and now I've had chair a year yesterday and the warranty Place says they can't do anything because I don't have the chair..zaks does!!omg really..I will never buy anything from them again !! read more

ZAKS furniture in Johnson City beware if you are shopping for furniture..... My parents were looking for an Upright recliner back in September. So we go to ZAKS and they explain to us they have them and we could go next door and look at those. So we do and picked out one. Then they send us back to the other building to pay for it. They insist on getting their extended warranty. "Fix it or replace it no matter what". So we drive over to their warehouse and pick this chair up. Brand new one not used or whatever. So back beginning of March we call in to explain it won't lift straight up we were instructed to call a 3rd party warranty company. So we call and are told they would send someone out in a few weeks. I asked if we could do it any sooner just because it's for a my stepfather who has cancer and it's in his bones. She said she would put medical and get someone out sooner. So then we have a guy come out who is now another company that does work for the 3rd party warranty company. He says it's shot and will need a whole new frame assembly. He said they may send it and may send a chair. Well we haven't heard anymore as of last week. I called them. They said call warranty company who you can only do online or email. Well I have sent 8. I called Zaks asking for help. Lady there said she was the manager would email. So after a few days I call Back to Zaks. She says she has heard nothing. So the next day I try again. I'm fed up at this point. I ask about getting a chair from the store? She said she can't do that. I explained the situation and she said I would have to deal with warranty company. So I asked about buying a new one at a cheaper rate? She said I could pay full price and she deliver for free. I said how much is delivery? She said $79. I said I will come buy one and pick it up if they would knock $79 off. She said absolutely not. So I have asked to speak to Scott Bowman the owner and no return call. So finally today I get an email from 3rd party who says that part hasn't been ordered yet. When they do it will be 4/6 weeks till it gets to us. So I call Zaks. Same unhelpful lady answers and said she was "about to call me". To say what I was just told by email. I asked to speak with Scott the owner again and she says let me go look for him. Then said he isn't in. If you are wanting to buy furniture there is a lot of places around that do a lot better. Try them before you get fooled. I shopped online today for a dining room set and added it to my cart For $899 I called the store about ordering time and was informed that the price in my cart and on website was wrong . So instead of $899 it's now $1579. I sent screenshots of my cart and was told sorry, we won't honor that price. Most stores would apologize and let you have the pricing and then change the price, admit the mistake and make the customer happy. Not Zaks. They say oh, well we have a pricing disclaimer in fine print and are not responsible for errors. read more

Zak's has typical quality furniture at typical prices (for this area). What they don't have is good customer service. While the salespeople are friendly and helpful, the overall purchase process is not customer focused at all. As an example, when having furniture delivered all they will commit to in advance is what day they will deliver. They will call the night before delivery to tell you their arrival time. I'm not clear how they consider that to be acceptable today, when even the cable companies are more definitive in scheduling their arrival. When I commented that being able to actually schedule delivery day parts is essential to my wife and I, the clerk couldn't have cared less. read more

Zak's was nice enough to deliver it. I was told that the other unit would be in later. Two weeks ago they called and said the unit was in and I requested an afternoon delivery. Zak's lack of true concern for the customer is evident throughout the purchase process. It's Zak's way or No way. For 25 years we had bought all our furniture there. Bedroom sets, dining room set, multitudes of sofas and chairs, entertainment centers, recliners, coffee tables, end tables, and more. Attending a sale that offered "No Sales Tax or Free Financing" we looked throughout the store, then finally decided on a leather sofa, love seat near the main entrance. We selected our items, chose the no sales tax option, and the salesperson "went back to the office, turned around, came back and said "You can't chose free sales tax on this set. We already had it marked down". After arguing with her and another person we left the store. Started shopping at another furniture store in the area and haven't looked back. Flexibility in terms and condition, open delivery schedules, non- pushy sales people, and liberal exchange policies DO INDEED EXIST in furniture stores. From Newland, NC. Purchased 7,000 dollars FlexSteel leather couch, recliner and love seat, AND extended warranty from Zak's. A year later, recliner's motor goes bad on the love seat. Made SEVERAL phone calls to Zak's reporting problem, received very poor service from Zak's store manager, it took months for someone to come fix the problem. Another year later... AND STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, a seam in seat of the couch came apart and "extended warranty" will not fix it, due to it being caused by POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP! Zak's refused to fix it, stating all they could do was contact FlexSteel, which according to store manager, they did and FlexSteel refused to fix the seam. Buyer beware! Zak's does not stand behind the furniture they sell, and mislead people into purchasing "EXTENDED WARRANTIES" that are WORTHLESS! The company holding the extended warranty said if "I'd cut the seam" they would have fixed it. HOW CRAZY! read more

Purchased a lift chair from the clearance center and was advised by the sales person that it did not have a warranty, but that you could buy one and it would take care of any problem you have. I did not get to sit in the chair as they had one that was still in the box in the back. We contacted Zak's Furniture when we first got the chair and was advised that the warranty would not kick in for an entire year. The chair is not fixable, because the frame wasn't made correctly. I spoke with the General Manager, Terry Copeland and was advised that they will not refund the money or replace the chair. read more

Zerina was amazing, helpful and very warm. So was the lady who rang us up. We had a very different experience, however when we rented a U-Haul to pick up our furniture yesterday because delivery wasn't available until the 27th. My husband and best friend encountered a very tactless man who was well-dressed at the warehouse. He was treating his employees in a noticeably hostile manner. My best friend witnessed him strongly grip his employee on the shoulder and proclaim "Once it's on the truck it's not our responsibility!" I guess he was grumpy we picked up our furniture 30 minutes before closing. I hesitated before writing this review because we are very concerned the warehouse employees could be penalized, but we were very bothered by what we witnessed. No one, whether they are under your employ or not, whether you are having a bad day or not, should be treated like that. I am afraid to describe the warehouse employees who were treated badly for fear they could lose their jobs. read more

I'm very disappointed with Zak's furniture. We ordered bedroom furniture the end of April and were told it would in the first week of June. When we called the beginning of June they told us July. I called them today they told me they don't have a date for delivery. I asked to speak to a manager and was told they were with a customer. We will never do business with them again. read more

BUYER BEWARE Do not expect any customer service from this business after the receive your money. I had an issue and called less than 16 hours after delivery and could not get the manager to speak to me. Watch out for them sending you their damaged furniture. Please don't make the mistake I did and buy your furniture anywhere else. You will be happy you did. I do not expect this place to be open much longer if they treat everyone the way they treated me. On 5/27/2018 I purchased living and bedroom furniture for a short term rental unit. I was told the bed would have to be ordered and it would arrive the first of August. Two months seemed a bit long and this would delay our placing the condo on the rental market but liked the bed design and decided we would wait. When the bed didn't arrive as scheduled I was told it would be mid August... then the first of September... and now mid September. This is unacceptable!!! And the order cannot be cancelled without a large penalty charge. The excessive delay has not only been inconvenient but has also cost us financially due to being unable to rent the property. I have made many purchases/orders from Zak's and had to wait usually a week or so what past what we have been told by sales staff. But this is ridiculous. Be forewarned if Zak's has to order your furniture their projection for delivery can be totally inaccurate by MONTHS!!!!! read more

In 40 years of buying furniture, the products and service provided by Zaks are the worst I have experienced. From defective bedding to a collapsing three-month-old sofa, the experience has been terrible. We have an unusable sofa, mismatched mattresses on a king bed, and must wait at least a month for parts that won't fix the problem. To make matters worse, the reclining chair (same brand as the sofa) is now exhibiting the same problem as the sofa. The bottom line is that in buying from Zaks we flushed several thousand dollars down the toilet. I won't make that mistake again! read more

We recently moved into the Johnson City area. Leaving our California home and buying one three times the size, we needed lots of furniture to fill a 13 room home. We did an endless it seemed search until we came to Zaks. Upon entering the store they introduced themselves but did not hover which I so appreciated. When our sales representative Nancy noticed we might have questions , she came over just at the right moment. She wasn't pushy but ever so helpful. Showed us items that we might like from different company catalogs and how we could special order anything. She worked with us for the whole afternoon and gave us her full attention. We found everything there. Some items were in stock and others special ordered. Everything is now in our home and simply beautiful. Looks like a spread in House Beautiful. We are so proud. There was a problem with receiving items we hadn't ordered but they quickly credited our account without hesitation. Zaks whole organization was a joy to work with from the sales, the business office, to delivery. I would highly recommend and look forward to the day I go there again. read more

I came into the Store on 12/16/16 in search of a new bed frame only. I was advised by a lady that they had a warehouse just below them that had individual pieces at a discount price. I went to the warehouse and found a bed that I really liked - it was cheap not my style but just reached out to me. So I purchased it $327.41 - invoice #1877430 - paid in full - bed loaded and took home with me that night. Had already ordered a new mattress from Sleep Zone that was to be delivered on Monday. So bed was put together on Sunday - 12/18 - mattress arrived at 5:30 on Monday - 12/19 - excited and ready to get a good night sleep. Needless to say I laid down in the bed at around 11 heard something pop and all of a sudden the middle part of the bed broke and some of the boards did also, I have pictures if you would like to see them. So my good night sleep ended up sleeping on new mattress on the floor beside of a broken cheap bed. So this morning 12/20 I called Zaks around 9 this morning to explain my situation. I was immediately advised no returns no refunds - I even told the lady that I was going to purchase a new bed and asked if they would give any discount. She once again with same answer. No apology no caring for my situation. I understand Zaks is a large company and could care less about a customer that purchased a $327 bed. However, I have worked for Aerus Electrolux for 30 years in Customer Service and would never imagine our company of over 400 stores in US and Canada to be this inconsiderate to a customer. So this story is coming to an end with a very bad taste of your company and products, which will be told to as many people I come in contact with plus I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. Someone told me to put in a dispute with my credit card but I want do that as I purchased it and will consider it a lesson learned. As for my new bed its 10:38 I stopped at Midway Furniture this morning and purchased a $1000 bed frame, which I will pick up this afternoon and will take home and enjoy.
