Had lunch with my husband on Saturday afternoon. Around 1pm. There was a small line out the door and they had a menu in their outside wall as well as inside once you stepped in. The outside menu did not show the cost, but the inside wall menus did. However, menus seem to be a little different inside vs. outside. My husband ordered the conchinita pibil and I ordered the fish tacos. It takes some time for them to make the meals, but it comes out fresh! No food lamp heaters. think we waited about 15-20 minutes so it wasn't bad. There's plenty of space to sit inside and a few tables outside. Silverware and water cups are self-serve, but they keep the area pretty clean, ensuring tables are cleaned once people leave. PROS: Fish tacos were so delicious! I would order these again. CON: My husband's dish was okay, but we probably wouldn't order it again. The pork was a hit and miss; some pieces were juicy and tender and other parts of the pork was extremely dry. Nothing special about the rice and beans and the guacamole and picked onions were a little small in serving size. The dishes were a little on the pricy side. I would probably try other dishes at the restaurant if were in Vashon again. read more

This small, cute, and unassuming resteraunt had me and my family swooning over the legit Mexican flavors coming from this food. Lengua wet burrito was packed full of meat and not with other fillers like rice and lettuce. The member of my family who ordered this dish said the meat was tender, flavorful, and all around delicious. Fish tacos were more fish than tortilla. Drizzled with a smoky chipotle sauce over a fresh bed of sliced cabbages. Perfectly done traditional Baja California fish tacos. Spicy pork mulitas were also packed with meat. Although traditional mulitas are made with Oaxaca cheese, this was still a flavorful dish. This mulita was made with a shredded cheddar and white cheese blend....not my first choice, but all in all a good mulita. Carnitas tacos....if you have ever consumed a traditional street taco in tijuana or in Mexico....this is what you are getting I PROMISE YOU! In a town with 17 restaurants and a few duplicates of styles GOOD is like a Michelin star. There's the The Hardware Store, which is the GOOD bar/restaurant. There's Rock Island pizza which is the GOOD pizza place of the three pizza places and Zamorana is the GOOD mexican place(casa bonita is the OK Mexican Resturant). What's always been the main problem with Zamorana is that they've been so tiny with really no inside seating. That's a problema no more my friend. They've taken over the space of the Consignment store they used to share their building with . So now you have very good Mexican food and plenty of seating. Great tacos, great tortas and, my favorite, mullitas. It's a little pricey but the portions are huge and everything is fresh and well made. read more

Yelp! You betrayed me on this one. So I don't know where the photos of the food on Yelp came from, but it was definitely NOT what our food looked like. We came here with a party of 5 on a Friday afternoon. We walked into Zamorana kind of a "hole in the wall" style Mexican joint (which is fantastic, we're all about discovering new foodie-gems). Unfortunately our experience was bad from the get-go. We waited in a line at the front door while the waitress/hostess spent literally 5 minutes chatting with the guests in front of us... which apparently they knew. So we just stood there... alienated and waiting while they talked to the couple... where they got married... introduced them to all their chefs, (all while completely ignoring us). My boyfriend, on the brink of exploding with hunger turned to me and said "lets go," I said "chill, lets just wait-- this place is 4.5 stars on Yelp!, we can deal with it!" So we continued to wait, still with absolutely nobody acknowledging us for at least another 5 minutes. Finally, we place our order and have a seat. The server who was serving the table of friends did not serve us a all. She had no issues bringing these other people their food and drinks; us, we had to wait near the counter and deliver everything ourselves.(We're not super-snobs, we're fine with serving ourselves-- but why have a server who serves some but not all?) The food. 3 burritos, 1 fajitas-- half steak, half chicken, and an order of guacamole. In a word: Inedible. The steak in the fajita was cut in 1" x 6" slices and was so chewy it was inedible... the chicken was cut into super small nugget-sized pieces and lacked any flavor whatsoever. The burritos-- strangely tortilla-centered... 85% Tortilla-- 15% burrito filler. Our burritos didn't look anything like the photos or have any snazzy dressings... just rolled up in tinfoil and served with 5 tortilla chips each. After dining we then "bussed" ourselves... leaving our waste in the dining room for other guests to see on their makeshift "bus stand" which is right nest to... you guessed it, their "order up" stand. Gross. Unfortunately I guess there's no Taco Bell on Vashon... which may be the reason for the great reviews here-- people must be so starved for Mexican food that they think that this place is good. Also, there's a broken window in their dining room that had clearly been broken for some time, with no repairs at all... broken glass... chards of glass on the pane. Very disconcerting. read more

Wow. Businesses come and go! This place is coming up as closed!? I make a near annual trip to Vashon Island and this summer when I was over there I was in the mood for Mexican food. I drove past Zamorana which is right on the "main drag" through Vashon. I was in the mood for Mexican food and this place seemed to fit the bill. I went in and got their burrito plate with pork. I enjoyed what I had. The ingredients seemed fresh and the burrito was tasty enough. I know "tasty" Mexican food is subjective and it is nothing to what I am used to from Colorado in the Pacific Northwest but I have come to accept the fact that that is how it is in the Pacific Northwest. People just want blander Mexican food out here in this part of the country... spice in general actually. I had some sauces that they had to go along with your meals and they were nice additions to the meal. I had no complaints... sad to see them go. read more

Wanted to write a 5 star so bad. Quirky place with typical Mexican decor. Nice owners and friendly customers. Chips and guacamole were on point. Fish taco was also tasty and satisfying. But then the spicy pork and steak tacos were really poorly made. I couldn't tell which was which because the meat was so charred. I don't know if they are trying to do some kind of crunchy taco or if I just got all the leftover bits that have been sitting on the grill the longest. Might just be a one time mistake. It looked SO much better than it tasted. Tried my sons bean and cheese burrito and it was good. Tortillas tasted homemade. My sis enjoyed her fajitas as well. I would have done a 4 star review but my wife the next day mentioned how much we paid for 3 adults and a toddler and it made me mad. It was a cost reserved for more upscale establishments that don't have a dozen flies hovering around where they give you your food. Is it the best Mexican food on Vashon? Probably. Bar-none the best restaurant on the island. If you want fresh/authentic Mexican grub, this is the place to go! Outside eating only, or to-go. Tips: Ask for roasted jalapeños to spice up your dish, or try some jalapeño salsa. If they ask if you want 'aguacate' they are asking if you want avocado. The wait can be a bit long, but the food is well worth it. I get something different every time I go, and have yet to be disappointed. Great staff and friendly owners. read more

Solid burrito (hefty!) and tortas. This is the first place I've found on the island that serves a good torta al pastor. We've eaten here a few times and have always left satisfied. Very low-key decor and vibe, the kind of simple comfort common in taquerias in Texas. The only downside is the prices feel a few dollars per meal higher than those taquerias... likely due to their convenient location on Vashon's Main Street. read more

Authentic, fair prices, friendly staff and great location make me jealous these guys aren't in Seattle. My family lives on vashon and I just can't turn down Mexican food. I had the wet burrito for my first time and it was 11$ and massive. Enough food for two with a small appetite really. I'm 6' 4" and downed it easily though. My mom got tacos. 4 for 9 $ The seating was something to be desired and I'm sure in the summer it will be the spot to be with outside tables and a nice view of town. Reminded me of a place in Texas I used to frequent because of authenticity and atmosphere. You can smell the carnitas cooking and the Spanish chatter among the cooks. I recommend trying it. 4 stars only because the place was a bit dirty for a 5 star from me. I will be back again hungry and ready for the fajitas. read more
