Basically this has been folded into the End Zone sports bar. The number still works; the menu here was accurate enough to point me to the California poppers and maki roll. When I showed up to pick up my takeout, the door marked Zanmai was locked and it looked like that end of the building was half dismantled. It took a little bit to get the attention of the guy at the bar (the two women he was talking to actually pointed me out to him) and he handed me my food with a smile. I then walked it home, about 20 minutes, so it wasn't in as good a shape as it could have been. Still, the California popper things (battered jalapeno stuffed with crab and cream cheese) were a creative idea well executed. The sushi was... mildly penitential. If it was smoked salmon I could no longer tell, and it came with a packet of generic soy sauce instead of anything more specialized to sushi. read more

This is my second year in Lander, WY. My gf and I wanted to try some of the local restaurants in town, rather than eating a McDonald's or Subway etc. She was craving sushi and it was Tuesday special. A Buy 1 get 1 free deal. So we went. Ended up being the wrong choice for dinner that evening. First off, it was extremely hot inside. Zero A/C. 2nd off the price for the sushi was Pretty expensive for a single roll. 3rd was how long it took for just TWO rolls to Arrive at our table. It took an hour and a half. Awful. Just awful 4th was the sushi ended up falling apart once we tried to pick it up. Never going here again. I advise you to do the same. read more

Now my food review: Sushi at zan mai is ok but comparable to what they sell at Safeway so save yourself some $. Food at End Zone was ok...took forever to come out though. I was surprised when I tried this place for lunch. I had the buffet, which was pretty good for $15.95. There were a couple kinds of maki sushi. The rice was properly seasoned and the right consistency - not under cooked. The shrimp were big prawns - tempura, peel-and-eat. fried udon noodles, fried rice and pretty good seaweed salad. The teriyaki chicken was good, but I'm partial to my own. If you're there at the right time, they'll thrown in some extras, like nigiri. The fish was pretty good. We decided to try Zanmai's rolls last night. We had eaten their Korean meals and found them not great but enjoyable. We have enjoyed Zanmai several times over the past. We got there at 5:40 PM, did not have a reservation but were immediately seated. A threesome behind us did have a reservation and were also seated at the same time. At about 5:50, a waitress finally takes our order for Gyoza as an appetizer, a California Roll, A Philly Roll and a Tsunami Roll. It wasn't until 6:15 that we got our drinks, a beer and water. Since my table overlooked the threesome after us, I noted they did not get mixed drinks until ten minutes after us. Then at approximately, 6:30, our waitress informs us that they do not have Gyoza which we had ordered for an appetizer. At 6:48 after looking at my watch, I tell my waitress, "We are going to have to leave soon." If it was up to my wife, we would have left! We were feeling like the poor people on Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen. Finally at 6:55 PM, our food came. Again, the threesome who came in with us, did not have food until a good ten minutes later! The rolls were OK, nothing great but generally not bad either. We had to ask for wasabi and pickled ginger. The California roll was a little salty which we couldn't figure out why. The Philly Roll was bland with the cream cheese salmon ratio a bit out of balance. The Tsunami Roll was probably the best of the rolls. We called for the bill at about 7:05 PM (Yes we were now running late!) and it came expeditiously. As I was paying for it, I contemplated what tip I was going to give, then I noticed that they had automatically tacked on 18%! Good for them, not for me! My tip would have been much lower for the kind of service we got! I live in Lander and eat out frequently. There are not many restaurants and this one fills a niche. This is a hidden gem in Lander. The quality and flavor of the food was excellent. The staff was great and attentive. I will return.

Normally this place is decent, but we just went there for lunch and got the buffet... and we are NEVER going back. Most dishes were empty, the sushi was decent but the chicken was basically jerky slathered in teriyaki, noodles were cold, and the service was awful. We were never offered a drink besides water, never brought fresh plates, and were ignored so the staff could chit chat with their friends. $50 later and we are extremely unimpressed. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

PROS: -sushi is decent, nothing too fancy, but definitely tastes fresh. CONS: -extremely expensive. For the quality of the rolls, I'm used to paying half as much. Granted, we are in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, so shipping probably costs an arm and a leg, but sill, be prepared to spend 25$-30$ for two rolls. -my spider roll came with mayo sauce on it :P -waitresses don't really know anything about sushi or service. -all-u-can-eat sushi night on Thursday felt like a total scam. It took close to 3 hours for us to get 3 rolls, because of how they make you order, so it really was not "all-u-can-eat". Everyone in the restaurant was complaining quietly to their party about how long everything was taking. And the waitresses never once said, "sorry for the wait..." I mean, tell us you're down a chef or something?! -I will not go back, which sucks because I was excited to have a sushi place in town. This place needs to be shut down. They have a sushi bar where raw fish sits out at room temperature for over an hour. Even ordering fish from the sushi bar I got warm sashimi. The taste was completely off. I'm sure the fish comes in frozen, and they are defrosting it, possibly in a microwave. The only thing that was decent was the cooked food. Maybe they should sick with that. The employees were friendly, but clearly afraid of the owner who watches everything they do. read more

What a hidden gem! This place already had good sushi, and now they offer pho and Korean BBQ, as well as a few traditional Japanese dishes. The food was delicious, bbq-ing was highly entertaining, the restaurant environment was spacious and creative, and our waitress was just the right balance of attentive and respectful of our space along with being very sweet and appreciative. More people should eat here!! We really enjoyed the yakisoba and the plentiful Korean BBQ side dishes (kimchi pickles!!). read more

This was my second try and it was beyond bad (didn't think it could get worse than my first visit) My husband and I miss the old Sushi place in Lander and have been 'jonesing' for Sushi so we gave it another shot. Bad decision!!!! 1. The waitstaff is incredibly unfriendly. 2. The kitchen is ridiculously slow. 2 hours wait for 4 rolls. 3. The rolls fell apart the second you touched them. And 4. The icing on the cake was a hair my husband ate...when I told them about it they acted as though it was no big deal. I will never go back and will never recommend this place to anyone! I guess we will have to travel to Jackson for our sushi fixes once again! read more

As a professional chef (since 1976), and a culinary educator (since 2006), I heartily recommend Zanmai in the biggest way. The food is just stellar -- and I genuinely know what I am talking about. Perfect Korean food -- with delicately prepared side dishes...as good as anywhere in any major city. Perfect. The Japanese udon was spot on authentic.
