Excellent dinner from Zanos Trattoria. Place was packed on a Saturday evening, standing room only lol. An unbelievable meal from a couple used to going into nyc for high quality old school Italian meals. Picked the eggplant parm which was fabulous. We went with angel hair and if I picked again I would go with linguine. Pasta was phenomenal, I just think penne or linguine a better match here. Sauce was a 9, dish a bit salty but I do believe because there was an abundance of mozz on the eggplant which made the eggplant even better. Not used to that much parmigiana but elevated one of my favorite dishes to a new standard. The spinach fettuccine was my wife's suggestion and I love a good wine sauce which this dish wasn't good, it was great. The shrimp was a nice size, not a lot but this dish with artichokes and red peppers, you didn't need an over abundance of shrimp. Dish had a very slight advantage over the eggplant which says a lot. Fettuccine perfect. It is nice to have an Italian restaurant this high in quality without crossing over into one of NYC's 5 boroughs. I'm writing this review solely based on the owner's public post today, which was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. Instead of showing concern for employee safety during hazardous weather, the owner mocked people for questioning the decision to open, called others "soft," and framed financial hardship as a reason employees should come in rather than a reason to protect them. That attitude says everything about how staff are viewed. The post dismissed legitimate safety concerns, minimized weather conditions, and showed zero empathy for employees who may not have safe transportation or the ability to risk icy roads. Leadership isn't about shaming people for caring about workers -- it's about taking responsibility for them. Customers absolutely have the right to decide where their money goes based on a business owner's values. After reading that post, I'm choosing to support businesses that treat their employees with respect and take safety seriously. There are plenty of restaurants that manage to stay open without belittling people or putting profit over people. This is not one of them. read more

We were 2 couples & we all had "Sunday Gravy", which was out of this world! This particular dish needs to be ordered when you make your reservations for dinner. Placed an order on line and paid thru their 3rd party payment. When my husband picked up the order, they gave him the wrong order. I called and they told me that is what he asked for - he didn't - he gave his name and my name. They made him pay again. I called to let them know we paid over $57 for 2 pizzas and have the wrong one. They tell me come back and we will make yours again. No we are 50 miles away. Well then you have to try and get your money back from the 3rd party. Really? I contacted 3rd party - they don't do refunds - contact your bank. At this point, it's less about the money and more about the attitude. I doubt they threw away my order and probably sold it for slices so made more money on it. How about offering a credit for a future purchase? After this there will be no future purchase from this establishment - a little customer service would have gone a long way. read more

Our first experience to Zanos was great! The atmosphere has the feel of an Italian restaurant from Brooklyn. There's an Italian market on one side and on the other side is the seating area- one newer and renovated and the other is the original seating. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We were able to sit with no reservation on a Saturday evening. After some time the restaurant was busy. Most people who entered seemed to have dined there previously and had a relationship with the owner and staff. The customers were friendly and seemed very pleased! Bread was delivered to the table immediately and we ended up ordering the fresh mozz, roasted peppers and tomato app. It was a large tasty portion and plated nicely. The menu has a great variety and the pricing is comparable to other restaurants except the portions are way better for your money! As a gluten free option, I ordered grilled chicken parm with vodka sauce and g-free penne. The portion was huge and the sauce was so YUM! The chicken saltinboca was served over angel hair and delicious. The raviolis and chicken parm were great, too. Dinners come with a salad and not an additional charge like some restaurants. For dessert, the cannoli is a must and gelato. We had cappuccinos and the Amaretto and Sambuca was a perfect added bonus. We will definitely be back and can't wait to try other dishes. This place left a smile in my heart. What a trie hidden gem in Waretoen NJ The staff the Fiod , the atmosphere . Everything here was special. The food was Amazing . I had the lasagna and my wife had the sausage and peppers in pene pasta. Both of these dishes were some of the best tasting Italian food we've had in a long while . My wife had the Tortoni for desert and I had the pistachio cheesecake. Amazing. We stopped in the market on the way out and bought some goodies for home. This review is actually for Manzanos, the pizzeria that is affiliated with Zanos, which does not yet have a Yelp profile. I ate there on 7/28/23 and it was just plain pizza shared with someone else. We sat outside in the shade as we had a small dog with us. We were quite comfortable and the staff was attentive and very pleasant. The pizza itself was very good. In my opinion, it leaned more towards being an artisan pizza than the typical round pizza one can get almost anywhere. Here's why: The dough was fresh and well proofed. I could tell by the texture of the crumb (I make my own pizza at home). The size was typical of artisan pizza. The tomato sauce was fresh and intended the deliver the taste of the tomatoes and mozzarella. There was no sugar taste to it or over-salting as one often finds is so many places. That would not prevent a person from seasoning it with some salt, pepper, red pepper, grated cheese or oregano, as desired. I do believe this is a really good addition to Waretown and wish them much success. I will come back to update the review and/or create one for Manzanos as I have more opportunities to eat their food. I did find myself wishing there was a bit more on the menu, but they are new and time will determine what they can offer. Also, there are more choices in the restaurant and market that they own, so one can find quite a few options by exploring all three. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because once is not enough to really form a solid opinion. I hope to raise it to 5. read more

Last night we were a party of 6. We were seated in the new restaurant area by a very lovely young man. He was friendly and took 2 of us to our table. Then another lovely young man I wish I had gotten his name because he was fantastic. He was the busser but came right over with a big smile brought us menus for the table and water. He had dark very, very curly hair. Anyway, the rest of our party arrived and after a bit a waitress came over. She was not friendly at all and acted like we were more of a bother to her. She took our drink order then another unfriendly waitress came over to take our order. Seems like they all work all tables so you don't just have one server. Both waitresses looked like they rather be anywhere but where they were. We asked some questions about the specials and then ordered. All dinners come with a salad. Sadly the salad was wilted. Next came our appetizers. A stuffed artichoke and a stuffed zucchini flower over once again the wilted lettuce with a not so good sauce. Maybe a lemon, butter sauce. Not flavorful at all. It also came cold to the table. The flower looked wilted. I love zucchini flowers but was disappointed by the looks of it. The flavor was off. I didn't really like at and then as I was eating it there was a long black hair on the plate. Gross. When I called over the waitress to advise of this. Oh yes from the time we got our appetizers we never heard from her to see how things were so I literally had to flag her down to tell her about the hair. She did take the appetizer cost off our bill which was handled properly. Next came dinner. I ordered off of the specials menu and choose the veal and shrimp parm combo. The portions we gigantic. The shrimp tasted like it was previously frozen and the cheese melted like a bagged mozzarella cheese would melt not how fresh mozzarella would melt. Another in our party ordered the eggplant dinner and said it was fantastic. Our friends who chose the restaurant said they have dined their before and normally the staff is friendly and the food very good. My husband, son and I have gotten sandwiches from them in the past and they were always very good. Last night was a disappointing dinner. Then when the second busser came over with our to go boxes he stopped at the table with a blank look and then said, "sorry I just had a brain fart" I thought that comment rather inappropriate. A Birthday celebration was planned. I was going to have a family Birthday celebration and we were not going to cook. So with every birthday in our home, the birthday person gets to pick what they want for their special dinner. I picked Spaghetti and Meatballs! But where can you find the best spaghetti and meatballs in the Long Beach Island, NJ area? I was always told by my father that if an Italian restaurant can make great spaghetti and meatballs, they can make anything and this is exactly why we went to Zano's Italian Market in Waretown, NJ. What I like about this establishment is that it is truly a family-run business. Father and Son Anthony keep up the Italian traditions and share their mother's and grandmother's recipes that they have enjoyed since childhood. Grandma Francesca is a frequent visitor at the market making sure the family is doing her recipes justice. When you walk into Zano's, you are immediately transformed into a New York bodega-type store. Food is everywhere. From dried meats and cheeses hanging from the ceiling to stuffed cherry peppers, salads, dry Italian pasta, Italian canned goods, Canollies, lasagna, chicken, a huge sandwich menu, cookies, and of course, the best bread and rolls anywhere in the area. So, I asked for an order of: Spaghetti & meatballs (2 portions Gluten-free) * Extra meatballs * Antipasto for all * Desert The Birthday---The order arrived right on time. A huge pan of spaghetti & Meatballs with trays & sterno, antipasto, a huge fresh green salad, a tray of cannolis, and an Italian cookie assortment were set and ready to go. With good red wine, beers, and all the food ready, the celebration began with the mixed Antipasto. OMG! This magnificent antipasto was a sight to behold. Bruschetta, sopressata, provolone cheese, fresh mozzarella cheese, cherry pepper poppers, Prosciutto, capocollo, Salami picante Culatello and others that you expect. It was so delicious, we had to cover it so that we would have room for the main course. With wine and beers flowing, the family of 11 (5 kids included) sat down at the dinner table. On the table was a fresh crispy leaf salad with a vinegarette, spaghetti, and meatballs and rolls. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, Al Dente! With a very generous amount of tomato gravy on the top and mixed in. It was not dry. Did I say Tomato gravy? Italian Sunday Gravy will get your family to the table like nothing else - the fragment smell of a rich, hearty tomato sauce spiked with red wine, succulent cuts of pork and meatballs slow cooked and simmered on the stove all day, oh just sooo good. This gravy was right out of the kitchen of Grandma Francesca. Tangy, thick, sweet, hell you could just eat a bowl of this. On top was the generous amount of meatballs. These meatballs were not the lousy frozen meatballs that you see at these chain restaurants or the mass-produced things, they were handmade 3-inch mixed and rolled, and browned. They tasted wonderful. The flavorful meaty texture coupled with the hints of garlic and onion cooked in the Sunday red gravy was just perfect. I am so happy I ordered ten extra meatballs for leftovers. As with every family dinner in our house, the kids disappear and the adults sit, drink more vino and begin the discussion on everything from alien aircraft to what went on the past few months since we all got together. All in all, this was one of the best authentic Italian Spaghetti and meatball dinners I have had in a very long time. You ask, what about the price? The prices at Zano's of Brooklyn Bros were reasonable. For the amount of food and the quality that the Crapanzano's personally serve you, it was well worth it. One can tell the Crapanzano family has a true passion for Italian food. We will be back again, but I was told that I am not allowed to have spaghetti and meatballs again, it is the third year and the kids want to try much more. But thats OK. Not impressed very disappointing the actual market very small inside the hot foods barely stocked and did NOT sell that quickly as we arrived at 11:00 am. Nice outside and a beautiful day we ordered 4 slices of pizza and 2 waters almost 30.00- pizza 5.00 a slice where as whole pizza is 24.00 didn't see prices posted. Dough was hard hubby liked it but he loves pizza of any kind that's the reason for the extra star. Total waste of a drive it's all hype all show no go. If you are looking for some great old school Italian food with a great old school Italian atmosphere, look no further, Zanos Italian Market is your place. When you walk in you get taken to Little Italy with all the Italian pictures and Italian decor throughout the trattoria. To the left is a wonderful little Italian deli, complete with fresh cold cuts, bread, homemade dishes and Italian specialties. To the right of us was a private room that was being used for a birthday party. We had an early 5:00 reservation and were seated at a table for two by a very friendly server and immediately felt right at home. Now this is a BYOB, so after our bottle was opened we perused the menu and started with one of the night's specials, Short Rib Raviolis. These were delicious, filled with meat and topped with a wonderful authentic Italian gravy. For our main course, I went with the Fresh Grouper, served over spinach with mussels, clams in a white wine sauce. This was fantastic, the sauce gave everything a great flavor and the fish was tender and fresh. My wife went with the Stuffed Shrimp, with crab meat & shrimp, topped with breadcrumbs and lightly topped with a lemon butter sauce. Well, not only my wife loved it, I tried some and loved it myself. Everything was just flavorful, fresh and delicious. For dessert we went with 2 old school favorites, Tartufo and a freshly stuffed Cannoli. Both terrific and maybe some of the better ones we've ever had. This was an overall wonderful experience. The service was great and the owner, Anthony, was also great, introducing himself to us and later showing us around the deli as we left. Looking forward to coming here again and again. read more

We had a reservation for dinner at six at Zano of Brooklyn. They have outdoor setting with Nice Italian music to enjoy. They offer bread and a salad with each meal My opinion, the creamy balsamic was the best to get. We ordered 3 appetizers. It took 1 HOUR TO RECEIVE IT. I WISH I MADE THAT UP. I ordered fried calamari which was standard Italian calamari likely frozen but the tomato sauce is excellent. Strong tomato taste which I enjoyed. My sister had the rice balls and she enjoyed them. My mother had the stuffed clams. She stated they were under baked and cold. I agreed after trying one. The main reason the delay was clearly the to-go orders. I saw 5 people at a time waiting for there orders. That clearly backed up the kitchen. Our meal came out a half hour later and I ordered the shrimp stuffed with crab meat and penne in a lemon butter sauce. If you see my plate, I have to state the obvious. The shrimp is small compared to most places with shrimp stuffed with crab. It's wasn't anything to right home about. Also, the penne in my lemon sauce was swimming in a soup. I never seen so much sauce. The penne was over done and mushy. The lemon sauce wasn't even good. if you enjoy a lot of parsley on your plate, this is the place for you. My plate wasn't as bad, but I didn't take pictures of others and you'll be surprised how much there was. Waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes, I only ate the shrimp and a minor amount of pasta. The meals were brought out in different intervals. My wife had the Fettuccine Alfredo. It lacked flavor tremendously to the point where it almost taste as if they just heated up heavy cream and threw it on top of the pasta. The staff and the owner were apologetic and aware of the amount of time we waited. The staff is very attentive to their tables. I never stated to the owner or waitress anything was wrong. My main reason behind was the amount of time a replacement meal would of likely taken. For 6 people it was 166 with 3 apps and 6 meals. I left the waitress a good tip because it's not her fault. Your check will not reveal any items in detail. They all say hot sauce item. It's difficult to know who had what. The reality is, if my parents and sister were not with me, I would of left right after the apps. As a restaurant, this is not the place to go. They just can't handle take out and sit-down seating. The owner took a picture of our entire table when we sat down smiling and getting ready to enjoy a nice meal for his Facebook page. It turns out, that would be the last time he will see this family.
